Regardless, the hand-written note Akwesasne resident Lila Lazore found on her car windshield while running some errands in Cornwall the other day was highly insulting, to her and others, including daughter Shannon Lazore.
Shannon in a social media post that garnered lots of attention wrote:
“Thanks a lot Cornwall! My mother, who is an elder, went from Akwesasne, QC, to Cornwall to get groceries at No Frills and found this note on her car windshield, which has Quebec plates. We have been going to Cornwall all our lives to the hospitals, doctors, schools, employment, shopping. Cornwall and Massena are the closest areas for these necessities for our community. We are not people from Montreal or Valleyfield coming Cornwall to shop – I’m sure they can find better places closer to home. Smarten up Cornwall! Akwesasne is much more than ‘the Island.’ I am beyond pissed that this happened to my mother today!”
