GHAZIABAD: The Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation (GMC) on Tuesday cleared a proposal to hike house tax by 15% with immediate effect. The proposal was met with opposition from a few councillors, but was cleared by the board eventually.
“In 2017, the GMC board had passed a proposal to hike house tax by 5% every year, but applicable once in two years. But the new tax regime did not come into effect for some reason or the other. This time, it was delayed by the pandemic. In keeping with the formula, the 15% hike was passed by the GMC board on Tuesday. The new rate will come into effect from now,” said Mahendra Singh Tanwar, the municipal commissioner.
