She had an affair with the painter and was affair with the painter and was a subject of many picasso portraits. Well, lets just take portraits. Well, lets just take you straight to liverpool and the labour Party Conference where Angela Rayner is speaking. Lets have a listen to what she has to say. Sometimes it is tiring being a woman in this world, especially under a tory government , but that is why it government, but that is why it falls upon us to continue the work of the last Labour Government standing side by side. So that all of us succeed in battling inequality together. I want to start today with a story. Picture the scene. A baby story. Picture the scene. A baby boy is born destined for eton or harrow. Or winchester. Then at harrow. Or winchester. Then at oxford , when he walks into the oxford, when he walks into the houses of parliament, he feels no imposter syndrome , only the no imposter syndrome, only the feeling that he is home. He is exactly where he should be. He doesnt struggle to make his voice heard , no hesitation to voice heard, no hesitation to steal a well made pint and call it his own. On the other side of it his own. On the other side of the country , a girl is growing the country, a girl is growing up on a Council Estate in poverty. She taught that women poverty. She taught that women do certain things and men do others to put everyone else first. Overlook looked undervalued and underestimated. Undervalued and underestimated. She will never walk in the corridors of westminster. It is corridors of westminster. It is not the place for her. Only thats not what happens. She thats not what happens. She joins a union. She learns the power of workers coming together to fight for more. Power of workers coming together to fight for more. A labour to fight for more. A Labour Government introduces the minimum wage. Government introduces the minimum wage. She can afford minimum wage. She can afford more than one meal a day. A more than one meal a day. A Labour Government builds council, houses. She gets the council, houses. She gets the keys to her first home to stability. A Labour Government stability. A Labour Government introduces the equal pay act. She gets a pay rise enough so that she can save and conference a Labour Government builds a sure start centre at the end of her road where she learns to be a good mum. She meets other young mums and finds the power in each other and in the end that girl who goes from her Council Estate to the parliamentary estate. Conference parliamentary estate. Conference like so many of us in this room today. I will not be standing here today without a Labour Government. Labour here is the party of equality of the equality act of equal pay and of sure start. I am proud to say that in the labour party today we have more women mps than men. And with rachels eyes fixed on being the first woman chancellor we are turning the tide of history. Chancellor we are turning the tide of history. We but tide of history. We but conference a battle isnt won. There still arent enough women around the table. It is not enough for us to cling onto our seats and celebrate the fight it took us to get there. You only need to look at the horrific acts of powerful men abusing young women and hiding in plain sight. This young women and hiding in plain sight. This is why the next Labour Government will fight for every girl in this country to have a Bright Future , to stand have a Bright Future, to stand up for every woman, and to break the Glass Ceiling and the Glass Ceiling. In conference. Our new ceiling. In conference. Our new deal for working people will make work more family friendly. Crack down on unfair pay and improve access to justice for those discriminated against at work and as i was pleased to announce today, labour will properly tackle Sexual Harassment at work. As shocking , two thirds of young women have been sexually harassed at work. This must change. Thats why the next Labour Government will amend the equality act to introduce a legal duty for employers to take all reasonable steps to stop Sexual Harassment before it starts. But thats not all. We will make misogyny a hate crime. We will toughen hate crime. We will toughen sentences for perpetrators of rape and stalking and half the level of violence against women and girls. Women. Women are suffering the awful symptoms of menopause at work will get the support that they deserve. We will empower women entrepreneurs. And we will tackle the crisis in Womens Health by training 7500 more doctors and 10,000 more nurses and midwives each year. Yean Angela Rayner speaking there, deputy Prime Minister of the labour party and shadow levelling up secretary. Shes kicking off proceedings with the labour partys Women Conference there before the full summit that starts tomorrow. Equality a big message here from angela raynen big message here from Angela Rayner. She is saying today theyre going to make misogyny a hate crime , tougher sentences hate crime, tougher sentences for perpetrator of rape and support , but more support for support, but more support for women suffering menopause. So a big drive here for equality, for women. And her pointing out that there are more women mps than men in the labour party. So Angela Rayner speaking there. I think keir starmer to appear later on. We will of course bnng later on. We will of course bring that to you as well. His keynote speech, of course on tuesday, the labour Party Conference starting tomorrow in for full five days, will of course be bringing you that to you here at gb news. Just a quick reminder of our top story , though, here this morning. Thousands of rockets have been fired into israel from the gaza strip in a surprise attack by the Hamas Militant Group this morning. Large plumes of black morning. Large plumes of black smoke could be seen rising from a number of israeli towns. Israeli defence minister saying hamas has launched a war and its troops were fighting against the enemy at every location. We know enemy at every location. We know so far that one person has been killed and there have been reports of explosions near tel aviv and areas surrounding gaza. So this is a developing story. We will, of course bring you more on this story as well throughout the morning here at gb news. Now, though, thats it from me back to esther and phil. All. Thanks, tamsen. All. Thanks, tamsen. Now to look through the top stories of the day to talk about that israel story and the implications of it were joined by former labour mp Simon Danczuk and celebrity chef and Award Winning presenter Kevin Woodford. So shall we begin with woodford. So shall we begin with you on that news there . Simon yeah, this is really significant, isnt it . The attacks in israel, i put my cards on the table. Im a Founding Member of labour friends for palestine , and ive friends for palestine, and ive been out to the region on a couple of occasions, and there is an argument for palestine. But this attack from hamas into israel, i mean, it isnt an act of terrorism. It looks quite clearly like an act of war. I mean, thats the reality of it. Its very significant. I know hamas media is displayed videos of the bodies of Israeli Soldiers as weve got palestine media has already reported that theyve taken soldiers captive. Where do you think this will go . What do you think this will go . What do you think about the implications, us and the People Living there, the families as its always the same, isnt it, in a situation of terrorism or war. So its the its the innocent individuals that are really going to suffer. I mean, already you can see theres this sort of scramble to get supplies and to lock themselves away and keep themselves safe. Its a horrendous situation. And were going back. I mean, this is going back. I mean, this is a day after the 1973 anniversary, right, of the war that that that that brought the defeat that this is all about. This has gone on for so long. Its horrific. On for so long. Its horrific. Mark, my heart goes out to the people that are really struggling out there and the fear that they must be going through at the moment. You know, this is the minute anybody mentions war, it must bring terror and horror through peoples hearts. Honestly, it really must do. I mean, simon, like you, ive been out to israel and palestine and spoken to both sides of the conflict. Really. I mean, is there is there ever going to be an end . I mean, is there a path to ending this particular conflict, do you think, or are we destined just to have this repeated time and again . We repeated time and time again . We its the extremist element on the palestinian side , hamas, the palestinian side, hamas, that dont seem to enable any solution to this. These attacks that we see today are unfolding before our eyes clearly heighten, escalate the troubles there and israel will quite rightly respond. I mean, this isnt a random act of terrorism. This is almost war. And we wont have a solution if terrorism. This is almost war. And we w m and we w hamas acts in the way that they are doing today. And gb news will be keeping everybody to date with that everybody up to date with that story. But looking at your story of what was in the of the day, what was in the papers that caught your eye . Kevin i fear for this country because im i used to smoke years ago and i stopped many, many years ago. Right. And now weve got a situation where what age did you start . I started when i was 15. And you know, and it was the right thing at that time to do because it was cool and everybody doing it. And everybody was doing it. And i stopped when i was 22. Thankfully so im not a fan of smoking at all, but im also not a fan of things being imposed upon us band banning us from doing things. And boris sums it doing things. And boris sums it up nicely. I think doing things. And boris sums it up nicely. I think in doing things. And boris sums it up nicely. I think in both the up nicely. I think in both the mail and the times where he talks about this is a monstrous waste potential of police time, he talks about a new era of prohibition. Where do we go prohibition. Where do we go next . Do we do we start banning red meat . Do we ban sex . Do we ban . No. Do we . Is it bad . Ban . No. Do we . Is it bad . How are you going to check whether anybody is doing that . Weve got cameras in the house. The thing where do you go with this . The thing is i mean, the thing is here, i mean, i saw boriss article today saying that this ban on smoking is ludicrous, rishi announced that this ban on smoking is lud conference, rishi announced that this ban on smoking is lud conference, which |nnounced that this ban on smoking is lud conference, which asounced that this ban on smoking is lud conference, which as it nced his conference, which as it happens, i to with happens, i tend to agree with boris. But course, boris is boris. But of course, boris is the who introduced the the guy who introduced all the restriction during covid and restriction ins during covid and banned everybody from doing anything hes the one anything at all. Hes the one who who was wanting to ban, buy one, one free offers in the one, get one free offers in the supermarket, you would say is he must that must have learned from that particular period in his professional life. Want the scary thing but i want the scary thing for me is this could lead for me is that this could lead to it does develop as theyre to if it does develop as theyre suggesting, if youve got a situation where youve got a 41 year old standing outside a shop and a 40 year old who, you know, can you go and buy me some can you go buy me some cigarettes . And then where do we get the undennorld . Then they could make a fortune out of this because weve and weve weve got prohibition and weve got little sleazy, got sort of little sleazy, little bars tucked away little smoking bars tucked away in alleyways, dark and in little alleyways, dark and seedy. What you make of it, all what do you make of it, all of this change, though, after lockdown, now status lockdown, this now status interfering lives from interfering with your lives from six people around a table that you could have getting home for 10 00 . You could have getting home for 10 00 this all part of this . Is is this all part of this . Is this where flown from . This where its flown from . I think it has. And i think im amazed that its coming from a government. Im amazed that its coming from a labourzrnment. Im amazed that its coming from a labourzrnm support presumably labour will support this they. Well, they this when they. Well, they probably imagine probably will. I can imagine starmer others enjoying this starmer and others enjoying this and supporting it. And completely supporting it. Youre kevin. Youre going to. Im with kevin. Youre going to. Im with kevin. Youre to people youre going to have people claiming they are older claiming that they are older than they actually than what they actually are so they carry smoking. They can carry on smoking. We usually. We usually. Simon lady would ever do simon no lady would ever do that. Trust me, we wont be doing unless youre under doing that unless youre under 80. Other thing is weve 80. But the other thing is weve got ludicrous position now, got a ludicrous position now, havent we . Youve these havent we . Youve got these rooms glasgow where you can rooms in glasgow where you can take heroin and you can do that lawfully, but were going to ban smoking. Going to have it smoking. Youre going to have it where cannabis, but where you can have cannabis, but you have smoking. So you you cant have smoking. So you can have cannabis, its can have the cannabis, but its going illegal the going to be illegal to get the baccy to go with it. So we know that people will carry on smoking whether they do so we know that people will caillegallyioking whether they do so we know that people will caillegally or ing whether they do so we know that people will caillegally or legally. Ther they do so we know that people will caillegally or legally. Theyhey do it illegally or legally. They will smoking, they will. And i think isnt it the case that jacinda and i think isnt it the case thatjacinda in new zealand, she introduced as introduced a complete ban as well . Yes on smoking. Thats right. Its a nightmare. Right. And its a nightmare. Woke queen of queen of the woke queen of the woke. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah, absolutely. It does very popular but it does seem very popular in opinion polls. In the opinion polls. It . Does it . Does it . Other question youve but the other question youve got ask yourself if you got to ask yourself then, if you look the figures is right, look at the figures is right, weve gone from 43 smoking in in whatever it was 2002, in 2000, whatever it was 2002, were of the adult were to down 15 of the Adult Population so its population smoking now. So its come anyway. So why are we come down anyway. So why are we doing this . Its ridiculous. Simon on to your story. Oh, yeah, the big story for me. Well, the one that i particularly find interesting, i think great piece think its a great piece of journalism in mail pages journalism is in the mail pages 42, mail starmers air 42, 43 daily mail starmers air for hypocrisy and its an investigation by a journalist guy adams, who does a thoroughly interesting job on starmers education and the fact that he benefited from going to a private school. He had private school. He had a scholarship so his parents werent paying for it. But has subsequently been fundraising for kids to go to private schools, which seems quite ironic. And thats why its ironic. And thats why its hypocrisy, because he wants to take vat off private schools. So thoroughly. Interesting. Hes getting away with all of this oscillation and changing his mind, whether its support in corbyn or not, whether its renationalising or not, is this a way to victory or will he get found out as a hypocrite . Found out as a hypocrite . Well, i think were seeing more of this in investigation into labours policies, and quite rightly so. I think quite rightly so. I think theyve got off quite lightly in terms of being scrutinised , in terms of being scrutinised, in terms of being scrutinised, in terms of being scrutinised, in terms of their policies. But this is a good example of where they are being scrutinised. Ed, and what the what the article makes that starmer is makes clear is that starmer is really doing this, throwing some red meat to the far left within his party to and keep them his party to try and keep them happy. You say the far left, though. I mean, you were mp for i mean, you were the mp for rochdale class rochdale working class community. Will the policy on on private schools making them pay vat wont that be popular with lots class lots of working class communities like in communities like people in rochdale . Communities like people in roch suspect it will resonate i suspect it will resonate quite well with labour. Quite well with labour. Traditional labour voters. But traditional labour voters. But why is he doing it . Its a bit like the ban on fox hunting that we had under tony blair, where it wasnt so much about Animal Rights really. It was more about blair being seen to clobber the well off who the rich and get advantage from that. And i think this is a similar sort of policy. What do you make of it, kevin . Well, im a fan of private education as well. I think its a choice that we should have. And i think one of the things that weve got to bear in mind is that the number of people that go into a private Education System reduces the number of people are going into the people that are going into the state therefore, that state system. Therefore, that can class sizes down. Can keep the class sizes down. So against the idea so im totally against the idea that vat should be should that that vat should be should be scrapped completely be scrapped on this, completely object completely. Object to it completely. And i do that this is just a do think that this is just a little vote catcher for him. Thats all. It goes back to thats all. And it goes back to simons point. I mean, i read the same article. Simon and what a hypocrite the is , to be a hypocrite the man is, to be quite a hypocrite the man is, to be quikevin. Stay with us. Kevin. Simon, stay with us. Youll be back looking at the papers later on. But its certainly been a week to celebrate starmer after celebrate for keir starmer after his to a huge his party swept to a huge victory in the scottish by election of rutherglen and hamilton west. Polling expert john curtice says if labour can repeat that performance across the country, starmer will be a shoo in for number starmer will be a shoo in for nursozr starmer will be a shoo in for nurso there must be a buoyant so there must be a buoyant mood up there in my hometown of liverpool where the Party Conference will kick off tomorrow. Lets speak to guardian Political Correspondent Aubrey Allegretti to get his take. Aubrey, thanks for joining us. I presume everybody will be cockahoop in liverpool this week, wont they . Week, wont they . Good morning. Yes i think thats right. If they manage to make it up there, because unfortunately, some of the trains have been disrupted going up the labour conference the up the labour conference and the conservatives unhappy conservatives were very unhappy about but yes, a about that as well. But yes, a lot of politics is about momentum and narrative. And so momentum and narrative. And so coming off the back of the by election win in scotland, its almost the perfect sort of jumping board for labour to claim that they are the power that sort of next 1213 months ahead to the next general election are is theirs to lose really. And all of that provides really. And all of that provides really. And all of that provides really good sort of atmosphere and backdrop to kind of boy labour activists up try and get them feeling like the wind is in their sails and that they can do this. Aubrey you said the word momentum there. Are you still allowed to use that word or is that is that a bygone word . Now we saw angela there starting off the conference talking about things like laws on misogyny , talking like laws on misogyny, talking more about the menopause, all about more about womens rights. How will that go down in in the red wall seats . How will that go down in liverpool . Focus purely on women. On women. So yeah, its interesting. The sort of structure of labours conference is that they always have the National Womens conference on the saturday before the sort of full National Conference opens the sunday. Conference opens on the sunday. So lot today so were hearing a lot today about that are about announcements that are specifically to tackle specifically designed to tackle violence against and violence against women and girls. Mean , there is girls. I mean, there is a broader sort of political imperative here for labour, which is that theyre trying to paint the conservative lives as no longer the party of law and order. So this is really a order. And so this is really a sort of a strong thing they feel they can use to show people that labouris they can use to show people that labour is an alternative party, a government in waiting, if you like. There are sort of three like. There are sort of three prongs to Keir Starmers strategy. If you look back from when was elected in when he was first elected in 2020, which was basically change the expel all the sort of the party, expel all the sort of corbynites. The second phase was attack the government criticised the government points out all of its flaws and the third phase was present. Labour as an alternative so were alternative government. So were likely to hear more in the means alternative government. So were likkind hear more in the means alternative government. So were likkind of ear more in the means alternative government. So were likkind of policyire in the means alternative government. So were likkind of policy and| the means of kind of policy and announcements this weekend and then the run up to the next then in the run up to the next general election, then we have in sort of two phases in the first sort of two phases of that approach. Aubrey, thank very much aubrey, thank you very much indeed bringing us the indeed for bringing us the latest party latest on the labour Party Conference. Appreciate your conference. We appreciate your time. Now coming up with a bedbug infestation said to be on its way will be asking the head of the bedbug foundation, dr. Richard naylor. You richard naylor. Everything you need know to keep away. That i knew had dewbs co that i knew had dewbs co weeknights from. Six weeknights from. Six welcome back to saturday morning live with esther and phil. It is 1027 now. A plague of bedbugs. Yes, you heard me right. Bedbugs has hit paris and other french cities, provoking a wave insect provoking a wave of insect phobia. Phobia. France is blaming the rise of International Travel due to the Rugby World Cup and the paris fashion week. Now were being told the bugs could be en route to london if theyre not already here. Joining us now to discuss this is the head of the bedbug foundation, dr. Richard naylor. Richard, thank you so much for joining us. I didnt know there richard, thank you so much for joinia] us. I didnt know there richard, thank you so much for joinia bedbugidnt know there richard, thank you so much for joinia bedbug foundation. Here richard, thank you so much for joinia bedbug foundation. Soe was a bedbug foundation. So thats been thats been good for me to know that to protect the bedbugs or to protect us, this foundation. Why is it why is there such a problem all of a suddenin there such a problem all of a sudden in france . Is it because of because of the of the travel, because of the Rugby World Cup, or is there Something Else play here . Something else at play here . I would its not a its not would say its not a its not a sudden problem. Its been growing fairly consistently since about 2005. In every major city all over the world. So this is a global problem in paris. Its world. So this is a global problem in paris. Its recently problem in paris. Its recently become a political issue and therefore, theres been a lot of media around that that gives the false impression paris has false impression that paris has a than everywhere a bigger problem than everywhere else. In my experience, else. But in my experience, i would say that every major city is having this problem at the moment. Can now. Now, can i ask you because obviously growing up, i would have thought it was associated with dirt, lack of cleanliness , i dont know, cleanliness, i dont know, bringing dirt in out the street, whatever it is. Why are they on the rise, these bedbugs . What is happening in our cities . Yeah happening in our cities . Yeah yeah. So. So bedbugs thrive anywhere where theres high human population density because it makes it easy for them to spread. They can just walk out of one apartment into of one apartment and into another. If people are living close together. Um, and so , uh, close together. Um, and so, uh, so its , its, its certainly so its, its, its certainly benefits from better central heating there are problems with insecticide resistance. There are multiple factors that have resulted in bedbugs increasing globally at the moment. So if you have if you find bedbugsin so if you have if you find bedbugs in your home, what do you need to do . Richard what should our viewers do if they if they come across one of these if its come over from paris . Exactly yeah. I mean, they could already here. They could be already be here. They could be coming likely. From coming more likely. Coming from your you live in your neighbours if you live in a city. But what should you do if its if its well established, if theyre in if theyre if theyre in multiple in your house, multiple rooms in your house, then its a professional then really its a professional issue deal it takes issue to deal with it takes a professional to figure out where theyre hiding treat them theyre hiding and to treat them and might treated and they might be treated with heat steam or with heat or with steam or with insecticides, but insecticides are becoming the growing resistance to insecticides is making them less effective than they were. So theres a lot of investment in finding alternative ways to control them. Richard naylor, thank you very much indeed. So keep your eyes out there for bedbugs. I thought it makes me my skin literally quite literally crawl at the thought of that. Oh, there you go. Well, as that conference gets undennay , the conference gets undennay, the labour conference in liverpool , labour conference in liverpool, keir starmer repeated that his government would introduce a race equality act to tackle structural racial inequalities, given that the Race Relations act of 1965 outlawed discrimination on the grounds of colour, race or ethnic or National Origins and the equality act of 2010 specified race as a protected characteristic. Characteristic. Its got people asking, do we need another law . Well, were joined now by Femi Nylander and eric hinds. And im going to start with femi. Do we need this new law and what will it actually provide . Provide . I believe that its clear that we do need a new law because structural racial equality inequalities still exist in the country. Exist in the country. So the legislation, the existing legislation obviously isnt doing anything. Yes, previous legislation has looked at, for example, at the idea of the direct discrimination in the housing market, saying you cant say am not to going rent to you because you are black or you are of pakistani origin, but that legislation doesnt necessarily deal with, as weve mentioned, structural issues, which mean that people of afro caribbean backgrounds , for example, are backgrounds, for example, are much more largely likely to be in poor housing in on um , in poor housing in on um, unsatisfactory housing in Council Estates , etcetera, Council Estates, etcetera, etcetera. Etcetera. But so for me, just, just on that of just on that point, because thats a thats a fair point. But how do you pass a law to change that . What does the law say to change that . If theres a disproportionate amount of black people and ethnic minority people in poor housing, how do you pass a law to change that . What does the law say . Well i mean, this is the thing. So this is the interesting question between just passing laws and not enforcing those laws and not enforcing those laws or actually any kind of drilling down and saying, cool, were going to were going to really attack this structurally and that this is where it gets to the core of some of the things that british people hold valuable. Were going to valuable. And were going to have some very have to ask ourselves some very deep things. Deep questions about things. Well, okay. Well, okay. Well, okay. Well, inheritance tax. Well, inheritance tax. Well, inheritance tax. Yeah. Lets ask eric then. How get if we just ask how do we get if we just ask eric there, who is a professor at law at queen mary university, how how are you going to get a law that makes those changes , law that makes those changes, things that femi is talking about . How would you structure that . That . Yeah, well , for example, you yeah, well, for example, you can have a law which fosters programs simply to promote investment in certain neighbourhoods and certain areas to promote businesses. Right. To promote businesses. Right. A law doesnt necessarily mean that somebody goes to prison to enforcement. There are many things that laws can do simply to facilitate , to promote, to, to facilitate, to promote, to, to facilitate, to promote, to, to reaffirm equality, civic value. Value. But, eric, if theres a if theres a Labour Government and they want to do this, this, why do they need a law to to, do it . Why cant they just do it without passing it . Why do they have to pass a law to do it . Well, what do you mean by do it without law . Well if they want to invest, if they you said about encouraging investment in certain neighbourhoods and things like that , thats thats things like that, thats thats what you thats what you gave as an example. What im saying is, why cant you that anyway . Do you you do that anyway . Why do you need why do you need to pass a need a why do you need to pass a law to encourage do it . Law to encourage you to do it . Why you just do it . Why dont you just do it . Well, mean, its a law can well, i mean, its a law can actually provide a framework, a system, something people system, something that people can and can immediately look up and refer use, and then refer to and use, and then theres some kind of understanding going understanding about whats going on. Necessarily on. So it doesnt necessarily have informal and have to be informal and predictable. So, i mean, have to be informal and predictable. So, i mean, i dont see so i mean, youre right. Maybe a law is not absolutely essential, but nor is it destructive. And it can be quite destructive. And it can be quite helpful for me. Can i just ask you, would you like to see a race equality law allow positive discrimination in allow positive discrimination in a way that positive discrimination at the moment is illegal . Would you would you like to see that in a race equality law . Well, ill to that well, ill get to that question in one second. Question just in one second. I just just quickly add just want to just quickly add something to your previous something on to your previous question. Though question. Its not as though keir starmer and not that im the biggest fan of keir starmer its not though starmer the biggest fan of keir starmer it going though starmer the biggest fan of keir starmer it going to though starmer the biggest fan of keir starmer it going to get gh starmer the biggest fan of keir starmer it going to get gh sinmer is going to get involved in every Single Housing dispute in every Single Housing dispute in every place across the country. You central you cant say that the Central Government do government is going to do everything themselves. Whole everything themselves. The whole point of legislation is to is to basically allow people at lower levels to implement things. If you the current you look at the current conservative one conservative government, one of the current the reasons the current conservative government is putting very putting in a lot of very restrictive legislation around putting in a lot of very restricilike. Egislation around putting in a lot of very restrict like protesting around putting in a lot of very restricilike protesting and nd things like protesting and around like human rights around things like human rights is because in the future they want subsequent governments when they themselves get voted out, to to follow same rules to have to follow the same rules that theyve set. So part of the reason the government is going to install a law is because that government to install a law is because that goverrto ent to install a law is because that goverrto be there in five years, going to be there in five years, if it wants to make long term change, it has to set a framework down. Its not just that government itself can that the government itself can do running out of time that the government itself can do to running out of time that the government itself can do to yourrunning out of time that the government itself can do to your point. out of time that the government itself can do to your point. Yeah of time here to your point. Yeah positive discrimination. I think in cases can see the in some cases we can see the positive discrimination can be a good because a good thing because its a chicken egg problem. If you have something educational something well, can educational inequal that means . Is inequal see what that means . Is that a lot of people who go to top universities and become politicians the next politicians and set the next generation of laws, etcetera, are come from are going to come from particular and the particular backgrounds and the question is, do you attack that at the chicken or the egg . Do you say, cool . Well were going to were to going family. To go to were going to have to go to the news next. But you the news next. But thank you both for joining us. The news next. But thank you both forjoining us. Femi nylander haynes, thank both forjoining us. Femi nylivery haynes, thank both forjoining us. Femi nylivery much haynes, thank both forjoining us. Femi nylivery much indeed. 1es, thank both forjoining us. Femi nylivery much indeed. Butthank both forjoining us. Femi nylivery much indeed. But now you very much indeed. But now lets over to tamsin for lets go over to tamsin for another news update. At esa. Another news update. At esa. Thank you. Well, lets just bnng thank you. Well, lets just bring you up to date with the breaking news story this morning. Thousands of rockets have been fired into israel from the gaza strip in a surprise attack by the Hamas Militant Group this morning. A large plumes of black smoke could be seen rising from a number of israeli towns. Israels defence israeli towns. Israels defence minister said hamas had launched a war and its troops were fighting against the enemy at every location. In at least 22 every location. In at least 22 israelis have been killed in the attack so far. Thats according to israels and 12 news. And there have been reports of explosions near tel aviv and areas surrounding gaza. Israels military says its striking targets in the gaza strip amid a situational assessment. It well, situational assessment. It well, israels Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has issued a defiant message saying we are at war and we will win. Rishi sunak has also said this morning that hes shocked by the attacks, but that israel has an absolute right to defend itself. Foreign secretary James Cleverly also saying this morning the uk unequivocally condemns the horrific attacks by hamas on israeli civilians and also labour leader sir keir starmer , who said theres no starmer, who said theres no justification for this act of terror, adding that israel has a right to defend herself. This, of course , a developing story. Of course, a developing story. We will of course, bring you any updates as we get them this morning. Now, though , lets just morning. Now, though, lets just get back to esther and phil. Get back to esther and phil. Thank you there, tamsin. Now, we did actually do a twitter a twitter poll, a poll coming up today, and that was labour are promising a new race equality act to tackle Structural Racism in society. Were asking do we in society. Were asking do we need this new race equality act . 12 only need this new race equality act . 12 only said yes and 88 said no. But by the interview weve just had, they didnt actually know how they were framing that law and how it was going to work. And actually, if you needed at all, did they . Anyway, let us know what you think. Views gbnews. Com now think. Gb views gbnews. Com now rent for homes outside of london has reached a record high. According to rightmove. The according to rightmove. The property website says the average advertised price of rent is almost £1,300 per month. Its because of a lack of enough rental properties to meet the huge demand. On average, each property is getting 25 inquiries and a separate report says a quarter of uk private renters are spending over 40 of their income on housing. Were going to get both perspectives on this now because joining us down the line, weve got the director of priced out uk, freddie poser and chief executive of the british landlord association, sajjad ahmad. Freddie thank you. Well start with you. Thank you for joining us. Who do you think is to blame for this particular problem of high rents . Is it you problem of high rents . Is it you know, is it immigration into the country being too high . Is it land profiteering by landlords . Is it not building enough houses . Where do you pin the blame for this . Blame for this . The blame is entirely on not building enough homes. The fact is theres too much demand for the amount weve built. We could the amount weve built. We could have built more homes, but over the last 50 years weve actively decided not to build the homes we need. And were suffering the consequences. Now were seeing high rents high house high rents and high house prices. You say theres prices. But you you say theres too much demand and not enough supply. And therefore saying that, therefore, is we therefore, what we need is we need more supply. Why do you not need more supply. Why do you not look at the demand side of it . Why do you not say, well, we need we need fewer . We had 600,000 net immigration into the uk year. You not say, uk last year. Do you not say, well, need fewer people well, we need fewer people coming into the country if its supply do you supply and demand, why do you just not just look at supply . Why not look demand as well . Well look at demand as well . Well there are a couple of answers there. I mean, priced out, we focus on the supply because i think thats more important. Even if you got rid of all immigration, which i dont think would be a good youd still need good idea, youd still need significant supply. Significant more supply. But also building supply, we grow also by building supply, we grow our economy. Mean, thats its our economy. I mean, thats its a step to build more a positive step to build more supply. I mean, we can be a much fichen supply. I mean, we can be a much richer, more prosperous country by the supply of by increasing the supply of homes, not just make homes, by making notjust make rents cheaper. Hopefully but its an actively good step. It its an actively good step. It would grow our economy and itd be really the country. Be really good for the country. And think that, um, you know, and i think that, um, you know, immigration i think, is a separate debate. Its not the main house prices are too main reason house prices are too high, the reason house prices are high is because we are too high is because we havent homes. Havent built enough homes. Let lets sajjad this. Lets bring sajjad into this. Thank you for joining sajjad, thank you for joining us to i mean, where do landlords have a role to play in this . I have a role to play in this . I mean, some people might say, you know, that their profiteering, the because the so the advantage because of the so much theyre putting much demand theyre putting rents unaffordable prices. Rents up to unaffordable prices. Do you do you accept any of that criticism . Criticism . No , we dont. No, we dont. No, we dont. We weve said for the last two years the housing policy that has been coming in legislation after legislation is driving landlords out of the sector. Um but theres a lot of landlords leaving. Its no landlords leaving. Its no longer profitable for to rent property. There is obviously the property. There is obviously the tax changes. But property. There is obviously the tax changes. But in addition to that, youve got legislation which makes it very difficult for landlords to deal with defaulters and so therefore that can be very expensive. And its can be very expensive. And its just come to a point where landlords have said enough is enough. And they are leaving the sector. I enough. And they are leaving the sector. I mean, i am a landlord myself. Ive been a landlord since the age of 18. My portfolio was something that i anticipated that i would be able to use, you know, in my retirement. But even i am selling my portfolio, um , selling my portfolio, um, because its no longer viable. Because its no longer viable. So im guessing then people freddie, people are coming out of the private rented sector because its the laws are too tight, too draconian, maybe Interest Rates gone up. Mortgage pnces Interest Rates gone up. Mortgage prices are various other things in the tax system. What laws in the tax system. What laws would you want to see introduced to maybe keep rent prices down . Some people are talking about rent control. Would you be of that mindset . Freddie absolutely not. I think rent control is a really terrible idea. Everywhere its tried. Idea. Everywhere its tried. Its currently trying it in scotland , berlin, places like scotland, berlin, places like that. And were seeing the real negative effect. It drives landlords out of the sector , but landlords out of the sector, but also the effect on properties that stay in the sector is also very negative. We see, you know, low standards of maintenance and its very bad for tenants. Its very bad for tenants. So, freddie, is your solution , freddie, is your solution really just build many, many more houses and what are you looking at then . We need to build every year. What are you looking at . Yeah, the answer is we need more, more homes and we need more, more homes and we need more homes where people want to live. So a national a live. So a national target, a National Number would definitely be of 300,000. Be well in excess of 300,000. But key that need to but the key is that they need to be especially where the prices are where people want to are high, where people want to live, where theres a gap live, where theres a huge gap between supply and demand and sajid javid. Sajid javid. If we can just finally come back to you, what is it that you would like to see the government do to make sure that there were more rental properties . I know you talked about sort of some of the draconian measures you the draconian measures that you described landlords, described as for landlords, is there anything the there anything else that the government in to order government can do in to order get private sector up get the private rented sector up and running better . And running better . Yes, i think its a matter of confidence landlords confidence giving landlords confidence giving landlords confidence. Yes. Even with the confidence. Yes. Even with the tax changes set those aside, landlords still will be interested in investing further, adding to their portfolio. One of the changes which the government made is decoupling the right to arguments. They put a counterclaim when a landlord appues a counterclaim when a landlord applies for possession when it comes to rent arrears. At the comes to rent arrears. At the moment youve got very protracted procedures for taking your property back. You can end up spending £70,000 trying to get your property back. Thats a far cry from when the housing act came in, when Margaret Thatcher introduced the 88 act, which basically was a promise to investors. You can let your investors. You can let your property out without fear of getting your property back. Getting your property back. Now, if we now thank you very much. And freddie, thank you very much indeed for joining much. And freddie, thank you very much indeed forjoining us. You can see the dilemma there between the landlord whos got all those difficulties and the tenants there. But building 600,000 homes a year or whatever, 300,000 plus, but not concerned about immigration. Freddies got youve got to work everything out anyway. Everything out anyway. Coming up, premier League Legend Harry Redknapp is back with us analyse last weeks with us to analyse last weeks var between liverpool and var howler between liverpool and tottenham plus , how prominent tottenham plus, how prominent should the husbands and wives of politic fans be . Depends who who the husband and wife is i guess. Anyway, as ever, keep coming. Anyway, as ever, keep coming. Your views coming in gbviews gbnews. Com and well be back you in a moment. But back with you in a moment. But first, want to keep you entertained. The Camilla Tominey show sunday mornings from 930 on. Gb news. Mornings from 930 on. Gb news. Welcome back to saturday morning live with esther and phil, the time now is 1048. Now this week we saw rishi sunaks wife, Akshata Murty take to the stage at the conservative Party Conference. She was met with mixed reviews with some calling the tradition outdated and others hailing her as the conservative secret weapon. So how prominent should the husbands and wives of politicians be . Well of course, your significant other is a fellow politician, ian. Well, joining us now christine joining us now is Christine Hamilton, of neil. Well, hamilton, wife of neil. Well, christine , you never shied away christine, you never shied away from defending your husband in pubuc from defending your husband in public and you were a sort of a high profile spouse of a politician , if you dont mind me politician, if you dont mind me saying so. What did you make of saying so. What did you make of akshay introducing rishi at the conference . Was that a good thing for her to do or a bad thing for her to do or a bad thing for her to do or a bad thing for her to do . Um several. I dont think it was either. Good or bad, to be honest. It seems to me a rather american thing to do what we expect of american first ladies. Its not what we expect. The british political Prime Ministerial spouses , the last ministerial spouses, the last one who did it, of course, was sarah brown. And that ended in disaster. Gordon went on to disaster. Gordon went on to lose. Suppose her nora lose. So i suppose her nora forster, which she didnt tell us anything we didnt know. We know. We know. Hes a family man. We know all that he didnt come away having learned anything at all. He suffers from anything at all. He suffers from a charisma bypass. So maybe she a charisma bypass. So maybe she used to more interest into him. But i left me just cold. I wasnt against it and i wasnt for it. But, you know, what i find disturbing is that we never expect you to are obviously a complete exception to the rule. We never expect the husbands to come out. We never expected to see mr truss or mr braverman or mr patel or mr badenoch , and mr patel or mr badenoch, and obviously Denis Thatcher would have run a mile before doing it. So and i dont expect well be seeing mrs. Sorry, lady starmer either. Uh, the other thing which i think one has to bear in mind is that probably the majority of people in that hall regard her husband. She may have said yes to him, but they didnt. They wanted liz truss and they never had a chance to vote for him directly. So i, you know, i dont its fine. Thats what they what they wanted to do. I would never have done that for neil. I would never have introduced him. I mean, hell no. I to go out and do my own i used to go out and do my own speeches. Would go speak speeches. I would go and speak to whether was a lady or the to whether it was a lady or the and or whatever in my own right. I think its interesting what you say there about the different dynamics that, you know, a wife is there to be supportive. Supportive. And by the way, she was very eloquent and very accomplished. She did it actually very well indeed. But i think youre right. The womens role is maybe more supportive. You wouldnt more supportive. You wouldnt have had a bloke do that. Lets ask philip if id have ask philip. Philip if id have been there marching on, would ask philip. Philip if id have bee|havee marching on, would ask philip. Philip if id have bee|have introducedj on, would ask philip. Philip if id have bee|have introduced me would ask philip. Philip if id have bee|have introduced me . Vould you have introduced me . I would have done if youd wanted me to. But i suspect you wouldnt have wanted me to. That was. Thats probably the issue. Other thing, but i think the other thing, you i tell you what is we you know, i tell you what is we never learnt anything more about him. I think thats maybe what people were to do. We people were going to do. We dont know that dont really know that much about we how about rishi. We know how diligent conscious diligent and conscious and clever he is, but did we want to know . Did he i in his own trousers . Did want to know . Trousers . Did we want to know . Does his own shoes or does he polish his own shoes or does make the dinner . I dont does he make the dinner . I dont know. What did we want to know about him . Christine well, i dont care whether he irons his own trousers. Mean, i might care if i was i mean, i might care if i was married to him whether he helped around the although around the house, although theyve plenty of theyve probably got plenty of staff. Care about that. Staff. I dont care about that. What i care is whether he what i care about is whether he can the economy. But one big thing, think they must thing, which i think they must have long hard is it have about long and hard is it is now open season on her. She has come to the fore pushed or pulled whatever. Shes out there. So no longer can he say , there. So no longer can he say, you mustnt talk about my family because she has put herself out there. Kids obviously off limits. Um, you know , each to their. Um, you know, each to their own, but its very unusual. I think its very normal. Think its very normal. Its an interesting you point you bring up there, though it does open her up in a way to greater scrutiny. It does open her up to greater attacks. Im her up to greater attacks. Im quite sure shes a strong cookie. But unnecessarily so. Perhaps christine. Perhaps christine. Im sure shes a very strong cookie. You have to be a strong cookie. You have to be a strong cookie if youre a political wife. Othennise, very often youll find that the marriage disintegrates. If the wife cant cope with it. Im sure shes a tough cookie. She comes from a you know, her mother was a major businesswoman in her own right. It isnt all it hasnt all come from the father. So what i wonder is, is a single person, when theyre in that ballot booth, are they going to hover on and think, oh, i like mrs. Murty , um, mrs. Sunak, whatever murty, um, mrs. Sunak, whatever , or are they actually going to vote for rishi othennise . No i dont think its made any difference. It was perfectly sweet and she looked lovely. And as you say, esther, not an autocue, not a single note. She spoke from the heart out. And no bad thing. Not an easy job. Bad thing. Not an easy job. Christine i mean, i wouldnt ask esther to introduce me because i dont think shed find anything positive to say about me. So it would probably. Would probably backfire do would probably. Would probably bacinot do would probably. Would probably bacinot think do would probably. Would probably bacinot think that do would probably. Would probably bacinot think that people do you not think that people do like to find out a bit more about their politicians now and about their politicians now and a bit about their, you a bit more about their, you know, or their their what they do and do you think do at home . And do you not think people like bit more of that people like a bit more of that now, even if you dont necessarily. Oh, no, i quite agree. I think people do possibly see what im saying is im not quite sure that a big set piece conference was the place to do it. But yes, of course people like to know backstory of like to know the backstory of politicians just a quick answer. Do you think it was interesting kept surname . Yeah, i think it was. Was it . Yeah, i think it was. Was it . It was gordon brown or one of them anyway . No, it was ed miliband who we saw in the kitchen of his house. It turned out it was only one of so that backfired a bit. Well, not many backfired a bit. Well, not many people have to. Thank you, christine. Well be back. As i understand it, at 11 00 with the news. Hello there. Tamsin headlines with. Tamsin thanks very much, phil, good morning from the gp newsroom. Its 11 01 thousand words of rockets have been fired into israel from the gaza strip in a surprise attack by the Hamas Militant Group. Large plumes of militant group. Large plumes of black smoke could be seen rising from a number of israeli towns. Israel defence minister has said that hamas has launched a war and its troops were fighting against the enemy at every location. Well, local news has reported israeli civilians barricading in their homes in border towns near gaza, pleading for help in a televised message, the police chief told residents to stay put and that we will get to stay put and that we will get to you all. Israels Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu has issued a defiant message saying we are at war and we will win. The foreign secretary here condemning the attacks. James condemning the attacks. James cleverly wrote on social media, the uk unequivocally condemns the horrific attacks by hamas on israeli civilians. The uk will israeli civilians. The uk will always support israels right to defend itself. Labour leader sir defend itself. Labour leader sir keir starmer has also said this morning theres no justification for this act of terror which is being perpetrated by those who seek to undermine any chance for future peace in the region. He adding there that israel has a right to defend herself. Well to tell us more on this developing story in israel, im joined now by conoco cocklin, whos a defence and Foreign Affairs editor at the Daily Telegraph. Editor at the Daily Telegraph. Con, thanks very much for joining us this morning. Condemnation this morning from the British Government also on the British Government also on the eu on these attacks by hamas, on israel. How likely . Hamas, on israel. How likely . Pretty unlikely, we would say, of any kind of de escalation here given Benjamin Netanyahus comments this morning. Well, good morning. Well, good morning. I mean, this is a very serious incursion by hamas militants. Um you have to go back decades before youve seen this kind of scale of activity from hamas. Um, and it is it is from hamas. Um, and it is it is a very big security challenge for israel and the fact that the palestine militants seem to have taken some israelis hostage. The taken some israelis hostage. The israeli medias reporting that 35 israelis have been taken hostage. I mean, this this is an enormous security failure by the Israeli Defence forces. And i think the israeli Prime Minister, netanyahu , will be minister, netanyahu, will be determined to respond very strongly against this. And i think you can expect to see a lot of Israeli Military activity targeting ham gas strongholds in the gaza strip. The gaza strip. Why now , do you think, con . Why now, do you think, con . I mean, the timing of this, is there any coincidence that it coincides with a jewish holiday . Well it seems that the hamas militants have caught the israelis off their guard with this attack because, as you say , uh, israeli, the israeli people have been celebrating the week long festival of succot. Week long festival of succot. So the suggestion is the Israeli Defence forces were caught off their guard. Um, caught off their guard. Um, having said that, tensions have been building for some time between israel and the palestinians and the whole Peace Process seems to be frozen. Weve had a lot of Israeli Military activity raiding palestinian towns over the last month or so , um, targeting month or so, um, targeting palestinian militants. And i palestinian militants. And i think hamas , which is backed by think hamas, which is backed by iran and others, has been waiting for an opportunity to try and put a put a marker down that the palestinian cause still remains a live issue. Remains a live issue. Com well have to leave it there. Thanks so much for your thoughts this morning. Really interesting. Thank you very much. Con coughlin, who is the defence editor at the Daily Telegraph there. Thanks for joining us. And well, of course, keep you up to date with this story throughout the day. And going to take its time. And thats out france and thats come out of france and spain, where its been baking and im talking ten degrees more than the seasonal average. So than the seasonal average. So you mentioned the word Climate Change. The two words. Yes, theres an element of that. Theres got to be, yeah, we get southerly winds from occasions in october that bring an Indian Summer because we havent mentioned that word yet. I always i will intervene here because my mums birthday is october birthday is is october and my birthday is october. I take a huge sort october. So i take a huge sort of interest in the weather in october and im frequently in a t shirt on october the 12th. It does happen no frequently because because i know. And then on the 24th and then the end of the month, it goes cold. So all of this. Oh, its Climate Change. Okay so i dont believe you. So lets put it into perspective because we need to you shouldnt ever take a single event , not even derna in libya , event, not even derna in libya, not even new york with their floods and say thats thats Climate Change per se. Okay there will always be added value to what Climate Change does. It adds a little bit to whats going on. But what youve got to do, esther, is youve got to join the dots and, well, i was most years im in at join the dots and, well, i was most years im in a t shirt on the 12th of october. Join join the 12th of october. Join join the dots. Join the dots. Not justin the dots. Join the dots. Not just in the uk, but join the dots around the globe. See whats going on around the globe. And if you do that, and ive been in job for 40 ive been in this job for 40 years, royal navy first, and then within british weather services, ive never known a services, and ive never known a busier time and a more dramatic time as far as the weather is concerned. When i say join the dots in the end, when you join all of these dots of the events that are going on, you end up with a picture. The thing is, the thing and the thing is, the thing that strikes me about all the Climate Change thing, jim, is that, its like that, you know, its like climate wins. Climate change always wins. Because if its hot, because if its if its hot, its Climate Change. If its really cold, climate really cold, its Climate Change. Theres lots of change. If its theres lots of rain, change. If rain, its Climate Change. If its the climate in its really dry, the climate in the of snow, its the uk, lots of snow, its Climate Change. If theres no snow, its Climate Change. It seems the weather seems that whatever the weather is, down to Climate Change. Is, its down to Climate Change. Okay, so i dont want to look upon change necessarily upon Climate Change necessarily as there will as a overt negative. There will be within be massive negatives within that. Have grasp the that. But we have to grasp the positives as well. And that is the travel. The the direction of travel. The argument realise what youre argument i realise what youre saying, the minority, saying, youre in the minority, but welcome your but youre welcome to your minority. Absolutely but youre welcome to your mino but absolutely but youre welcome to your minobut look, absolutely but youre welcome to your mino but look, the solutely but youre welcome to your mino but look, the positives fine. But look, the positives that grasped in terms that need to be grasped in terms of the direction of travel, where what weve where were going, what weve got to lead this nation got to do to lead this nation towards we only want to know what the weather was year. What the weather was this year. Know didnt want a big i know i didnt want a big psychological , know, psychological, you know, in depth where in depth talk about where you thought was and thought weather was going and join dots. But we do join up the dots. But we do appreciate time, jim. Appreciate your time, jim. Thats okay. Very much thats okay. Thank you very much indeed. It is warmer. Its indeed. But it is warmer. Its a rainy dont kill cash should read book. Rainy dont kill cash should reaiyeah, book. Rainy dont kill cash should reaiyeah, booiis a present to yeah, this is a present to you guys. Or not were going to whether or not were going to be around bit more, then maybe be around a bit more, then maybe were to be reading. Thank were going to be reading. Thank you. Was interested in you. I was just interested in the its not good the rain because its not good on heard. You see what on the old heard. You see what i mean . This is not the best weather. Dont go to scotland. But back now with but anyway, were back now with kevin and Kevin Woodford and Simon Danczuk. What you danczuk. Kevin, what have you got stories that caught got on your stories that caught your eye today . Okay um, i love the weather, man. Just adore the weather. James fantastic one the fantastic top gear, one of the most programmes that most fabulous programmes that the have ever produced the bbc have ever produced started in, what it, 1977, started in, what was it, 1977, presented originally by that lovely dancing woman, angela rippon. Believe it or not, she she presented gb news presenter oh, gb news. Presenter she presented top gear in 1977. It went through all sorts of sort of changes to thousand and two. The man clarkson got hold of it and said, this is too boring, lets make it exciting. And he made it into this fabulous magazine show, which it has been. But then we start to get a bit silly. 2006 Richard Hammond at 288 miles an hour in this jet propelled rocket machine has this horrendous accident, horrendous accident where he ends up with a brain injury now and then the show still went through this metamorphosis of such huge success. It brought it brought in huge hollywood stars to appear in the show in star in a car. Tom cruise, you know, cameron diaz, it was phenomenal. And then they make the stupid mistake, in my opinion. Right. Mistake, in my opinion. Right. Of not following health and safety, which , you know, safety, which, you know, normally id say, come on, give it a rest. But in this particular case, health and safety should have been followed where Freddie Flintoff is doing 130 hour in an open top 130 miles an hour in an open top three wheel vehicle without any face protection whatsoever. So face protection whatsoever. So whats going to happen now is one of the biggest brand is that the bbc have ever, ever had huge money making machine, Great Entertainment will be scrapped. Right decision . Or should right decision . Or should they just have toned it down a bit . No, no. Because once they get to that stage, phil, the show is the show. The nature of the show is the show. Its like saying the jungle. Start the jungle. When you start putting on peoples faces, putting rats on peoples faces, you know, having climb you know, and having them climb up. Stupid cliffs and up. Stupid, stupid cliffs and jump up. Stupid, stupid cliffs and jump off and all rest of it. Jump off and all the rest of it. The nature of the show, thats the exciting of the show. The exciting part of the show. You take away you you take that away and you havent got gear. But what havent got top gear. But what they have is they should have done is followed safety. Followed health and safety. Flint been flint shop should have been protected, as simple as that. Was a good earner for and it was a good earner for the bbc. It was a great earner. It was a great earner. Whats your story . Simon whats your story . Simon whats your story . Story ive just well, my story is ive just stopped funding and its all about dale, vince its in the daily vince, youll daily mail. Dale vince, youll recall, big sponsor the recall, is a big sponsor of the labour party. Also just stop labour party. But also Just Stop Oil owner of forest green oil and owner of forest green rovers football oh, yes, rovers football club. Oh, yes, thats yeah, forgot thats right. Yeah, i forgot about and hes made about that. And hes hes made a lot money through energy is lot of money through energy is his Energy Company hes been putting that into Just Stop Oil but hes now saying hes stopping funding stop oil stopping funding Just Stop Oil and hes going to put the money into just vote. So hes setting up a new campaign to get young people to vote and hes to people to vote and hes going to put more into the labour people to vote and hes going to put rrtoe into the labour people to vote and hes going to put nto try into the labour people to vote and hes going to put nto try and into the labour people to vote and hes going to put nto try and help the labour people to vote and hes going to put nto try and help them abour people to vote and hes going to put nto try and help them win,r party to try and help them win, win next general election. Win the next general election. That is i mean, is that is that i mean, obviously im sure the labour party will welcome the extra funding. Sense its a funding. So in that sense its a boost. Is a boost for boost. But is it a boost for floating thinking, do i floating voters thinking, do i really somebody who funds really want somebody who funds Just Stop Oil involved in the labour . There is there labour . Is there is there a negative in there well as a negative in there as well as a positive . Certainly a negative there certainly is a negative in think hes given in there. I think hes given about 1. 5 million over the last few years to the party few years to the labour party and argument that hes and the argument is that hes dictating we know and the argument is that hes dicte labour we know and the argument is that hes dicte labour now we know and the argument is that hes dictelabour now havee know and the argument is that hes dicte labour now have comev and the argument is that hes dicte labour now have come out that labour now have come out and said no more oil, gas licences in the north sea. Thats clearly a policy that dale vince supports. I think they , theyre sticking with the they, theyre sticking with the 2030 Climate Change targets that the Prime Minister has said he wants to move to 2035. And interestingly labour have been saying votes for 16 year olds, which seems to tie in with what dale vince is saying about getting young people. So hes getting young people. So hes getting hes getting lot of getting hes getting a lot of bang buck. Bang for his buck. Thats what it looks like. And doesnt want and he obviously doesnt want the hes the disruption anymore. Hes just change policy now just going to change policy now sees the right time and sees its the right time and hes only got, however long it is before the general election. Warned off my is before the general election. Story warned off my is before the general election. Story for warned off my is before the general election. Story for today. Rned off my is before the general election. Story for today. Kevinnff my saucy story for today. Kevin i believe that i did it i cant believe that i did it was well, i kind of ive been warned off it. Ive been warned off it. Well just it. Well just leave it. We take a poll . Should should we take a poll . Should we him do we want. We take him off . Do we want. Because i dont want me to have a big say over what philip wants to a story. So hands up, to do for a story. So hands up, do we want to hear philips saucy story week . Please, saucy story this week . Please, too. You go. Three, youve too. There you go. Three, youve won. Just give us your sources. Sorry. Go on. Its paige, page 33 of the sun. It says, zap and tickle is better than viagra. And is better than viagra. And apparently men can get a better reception in bed by zapping their doodads with radio waves. Their doodads with radio waves. Is how do you have you . I didnt even know he came to me with this story. Scientists and i said, what is it going emitting one megahertz of waves combats erectile dysfunction without the need for drugs such as viagra. As viagra. Did you know that . Did you know that . Kevin well, surprise. Hinckley no. Okay. Well, are you giving it a try . Simon im not aware of the equipment that you can buy to do that and is a good yorkshireman as i think you should as you are. I think you should a diy one, perhaps take the old element of an dryer out, try element of an air dryer out, try and work. Im to going im going to ask another question. Now, you heard the i to the story. Was i right to boycott story . Boycott that story . Up. Hands up. Hands up. Both up. Oh, right. I both hands up. Oh, right. I was right. Very quickly, i want to get your view this. Im going to your view on this. Im going to go for controversial one. Im go for a controversial one. Im probably leading with my chin, but it but im going to go with it anyway. Of the daily anyway. Page 18 of the daily mirror, fiona says sorry mirror, fiona bruce says sorry after question time tv backlash. She was trying identify she was trying to identify somebody the audience ask she was trying to identify s question the audience ask she was trying to identify s question th she|dience ask she was trying to identify s question th she said, e ask she was trying to identify s question th she said, the ask a question and she said, the black in the middle. And black guy in the middle. And apparently completely apparently that was completely outrage. Say the outrage. Gorgeous to say the black guy in the middle. She should apparently referred should apparently have referred to was wearing. To the clothing he was wearing. But if theres lot of white but if theres a lot of white people in audience and not people in an audience and not many black people, surely if you want identify why somebody want to identify why somebody whats with saying that whats wrong with saying that its not youre not saying, you know, an ugly person or a no, you know why . Why can you not say that . The opposite take the opposite view of that. Audience was that. If the audience was predominantly black and i was the white person in the audience and fiona bruce pointed to me as the white person in the audience, wouldnt take audience, i wouldnt take offence to that at all. Am i missing something here . Because i just dont i dont i dont understand it. I mean, im obviously in the wrong, i presume, but i have no idea why that was offensive. No. Well, i just think it doesnt deserve all the attention the bbc edited it out the bbc have edited it out of the bit. Strange that they i was strange that they edited two words out that edited the two words out that they didnt want in all a they didnt want in all of a sudden. A story. Sudden. That makes it a story. Whereas most people would never have known that there was an offence there at all. Exactly. I think the bbc lost the way. Think the bbc has lost the way. Well, exactly. Well, exactly. I the preferences but i think the preferences that to cloths, that she refers to cloths, colours, colours of cloths rather than people , but rather than people, but nevertheless the reaction is overreaction. So you can refer to a colour of a jumper, but you cant refer to the colour of a skin. But if i remember correctly from reading the article as well, it her comment is that she couldnt see the clothing of the particular guy that she was referring was simply a referring to. So it was simply a very clean way of getting a camera to that particular. Well, i want to know what our viewers because i think viewers think, because i think this got talking. We this has got us talking. We couldnt understand how she couldnt understand what how she defended there. So let defended anybody there. So let us have your views. Kevin. Thank you much indeed. You very much indeed. Simon thank indeed. Thank you very much indeed. Well again very soon on well see you again very soon on the but up, as the show. But coming up, as Victoria Beckham reminisces on what she called the hardest time in her marriage, we want to know who is to blame in any alleged affair, the husband or the mistress. Phil, you know who id be blaming straight away. Well be blaming straight away. Well be speaking to psychologist dr. Pam spurr. But first, your latest news with Tamsin Roberts i thanks, esther. Lets just bnng thanks, esther. Lets just bring you up to date with the developing situation in israel. Now, weve heard from the Prime Minister, rishi sunak, this morning who said hes shocked by this mornings attack , but that this mornings attack, but that israel has an absolute right to defend itself. Now, thousands of defend itself. Now, thousands of rockets were fired from the gaza strip in a surprise attack by the Hamas Militant Group. Large the Hamas Militant Group. Large plumes of black smoke could be seen rising from a number of israeli towns. As israels israeli towns. As israels defence minister said , hamas has defence minister said, hamas has launched a war and its troops were fighting against the enemy. At every location, at least 22 israelis have been killed in the attack so far. Thats according to local news in israel. And to local news in israel. And there have been reports of explosions near tel aviv and areas surrounding gaza. Israels areas surrounding gaza. Israels military says its striking targets in the gaza strip amid what it calls a situational assessment. Well, israels prime assessment. Well, israels Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu , minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, hasissued minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, has issued a defiant message this morning saying we are at war and we will win. Foreign secretary James Cleverly here has said the uk unequivocally condemns the horrific attacks by hamas on israeli civilians and labour leader sir keir starmer also speaking this morning on this situation, saying there is no justification for this act of terror, adding that israel has a right to defend herself. Of right to defend herself. Of course, well keep you up to date with this story throughout the morning. And if you want to the morning. And if you want to hean the morning. The Camilla Tominey show sunday mornings from 930 on gb news is. Well welcome back to news is. Well welcome back to saturday morning live with esther and phil. It is 1125. Lots of views coming in about all sorts of Different Things , particularly Different Things, particularly about housing. We were discussing earlier what was the reason why rents were at a record high. Darren says, why . Oh why doesnt anyone come out and that the reason for 90 and say that the reason for 90 of countrys problems are of this countrys problems are down to the out of control population . As population . Figures as soon as someone and says we someone comes out and says we need stop this need to stop these this population they population growth, then they will most peoples support. Will get most peoples support. You did a poll about this, didnt you . Asking people we did ask that question. We did. We did. Did ask it before the show we did ask it before the show started. We put a poll started. Actually, we put a poll out to ask who do people blame . Mainly for the high rents. And actually came out. Actually the figures came out. 59 immigration down, 22 59 said immigration down, 22 said lack of House Building and 18 said profiteering landlords. So darren, it seems that youre with the majority opinion from our poll that immigration is the biggest cause of the high rents in the country. Now Victoria Beckham has spoken in a new Netflix Documentary about her husband, davids alleged affair with his former personal assistant , former personal assistant, rebecca loos. Of course , they deny the of course, they deny the there was an affair, but she described the aftermath of the claims as the hardest period of her marriage to the football star. But in any affair, who is really to blame . The spouse who really to blame . The spouse who cheats . I think so. Or the person they cheated with. Person they cheated with. Well, joining us now to discuss this is psychology doctor pam. Pam thanks for joining us. So come on, estes, pose the question, whos to blame in these situations . Whos most to blame . I suppose you most to blame . I suppose you know, whos most to blame . Is it the spouse . It mistress the spouse . Is it the mistress or is it the nagging wife who made the spouse go off in the first place . Yes. Oh , that was a bit oh, that was a bit contentious. There see what i mean . Absolving all of the blame straight away. Oh, it wasnt me, guv. It was what everybody else did that made me do something. Did that made me do something. Just give it an option. Just give it an option. Pam, were having our own little whatever tiff here. Go on. On. Well, good morning. Uh, ive well, good morning. Uh, ive got to say, i think both people are to blame, but lets look at the powerful societal expectations we have for male and female behaviour. And we and female behaviour. And we kind of say men will be men and women will be good and kind and nurturing and not homewreckers. Nurturing and not homewreckers. So when an affair is discovered. So when an affair is discovered , we tend to come down with a double whammy with with vilifying the woman involved. Vilifying the woman involved. And in fact, a major social Attitude Survey found that two thirds of people will blame the woman which i think is quite outrageous. That nowadays people still blame a woman. Can i ask pam, because i was trying to work this through and see if there was a logical reason rather than just an emotional reason to blame the woman. Do you think that would allow you to save your marriage . In a way, if you can put the blame on the external person, does that allow you to save your marriage with the person who went off . Well, thats a good point , well, thats a good point, esther, because obviously when someone gets caught cheating, they often look for any exit, any, any excuse. So to blame the other person saying the other person made it impossible for them to say no. And that sort of thing is often used. But of course thats absolute rubbish. If youre an adult, you know how to say no and you know how to recognise when youre on a slippery slope , flirting a bit slippery slope, flirting a bit at work with someone and you know, theres that slippery slope and you can stop yourself from going down it if youre kind of an emotionally mature adult. But kind of an emotionally mature adult. But whats kind of an emotionally mature adult. But whats really adult. But whats really interesting though, is after an affair is discovered, a major piece of Relationship Research showed that 60 of people will stay with their partner. So the stay with their partner. So the majority of People Choose to stay and try and work it out. And of course, in my work, i say, how happily do they do so . Because some couples will go on to keep throwing it in the partners face so they never actually resolve the issues underlying it. But its an easy thing to do to kind of just keep throwing it into their face and say, whenever you round about the children or finances fair well thats not proper healing. So if youre going to stay together, you do need to actually try and sort out the root problem. So, pam , how do people so, pam, how do people resolve these things then . Well, resolve these things then . Well, how do you get i mean, Vicky Beckham said was the toughest beckham said it was the toughest time life. David beckham time of her life. David beckham said he didnt how they got said he didnt know how they got through so how do couples through it. So how do couples get through, through it . Get through, get through it . And in public life and if youre famous. And in public life and if you exactly. Us. And in public life and if you exactly. Particularly exactly. Particularly if youre eye and youre in the public eye and everybody is following every last and dot of the story last comma and dot of the story , which is an enormous pressure. And ive got to say , male and ive got to say, male celebrities often are excused for this kind of behaviour, whereas a female celebrity wouldnt be going back to those expectations. We have that women do not do these things , but of do not do these things, but of course some women do. First you have to look at what type of cheating theres. For main types of cheaters , theres the of cheaters, theres the opportunist who went to a conference and actually got too drunk and actually didnt say no when someone came on to them. There is also the repeat offender , someone who actually offender, someone who actually is a risk taker. Offender, someone who actually is a risk taker. And thats is a risk taker. And thats a very difficult situation to handle because this person thrives on the risk of an illicit affair. Next, you have the revenge affair where someone finds out my partner is cheating. They go cheat. So that throws fire onto the heat. And throws fire onto the heat. And finally you have the middle life affair where someone decides us. Ive been married for 20 years. 25 years. I want to see if the grass is greener. So thats also quite a dangerous situation to be handling because if they are feeling bad about their midlife crisis and theyve chosen to have an affair, its very hard to solve those things. The easiest thing once youve looked at the reason why theyve cheated is to then not take a rash decision, especially if there are children. You dont there are children. You dont want to throw the person out when youve got little children. Lets say , only to have them lets say, only to have them back a week later because youve decided it. So do decided you can solve it. So do not make rash decisions. Dr. Pam. Okay thank you very dr. Pam. Okay thank you very much indeed forjoining us today. I the thing im worried about is esther was writing furiously. I totally was taking notes. I was entirely sure what you were. I tell you, because while you were writing, because i did think those four different affairs were very different, the opportunist i thought was very different the repeat offender different to the repeat offender in the words repeat offender to the revenge affair. As i see the revenge affair. As i see that as different to the midlife , whatever that was, crisis sort of thing. So, you know, which is the worst repeat offender sounding bad to me. Repeat offender. Just just say so thats where i put them. Anyway, its all written down now. So there we go. Anyway, coming up, well be joined by mother daughter, lynne and mother and daughter, lynne and Samantha Crilly, wholl be telling us the launch telling us about the launch of their a toy their trouble munch, a toy and app their trouble munch, a toy and app health app ahead of Mental Health awareness week. First, awareness week. But first, heres the news with. Tamsin heres the news with. Tamsin phil, thanks very much. Here are the headlines at 1132. Rishi sunak says hes shocked by this mornings attacks in israel , but mornings attacks in israel, but that the country has an absolute right to defend itself. Right to defend itself. Thousands of rockets have been fired from the gaza strip in a surprise attack by the Hamas Militant Group. Large plumes of militant group. Large plumes of black smoke could be seen rising from a number of israeli towns. Israels defence minister said hamas has launched a war and its troops were fighting against the enemy at every location. Local enemy at every location. Local news have reported israeli civilians barricading themselves in their homes in border towns near gaza. Pleading for help and in a televised message, the police chief told residents to stay put. We will get to you all. Israels Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu issued a defiant message saying we are at war and we will win. He said that hamas had launched a murderous surprise attack against the state of israel and its citizens us, but warned the enemy will pay an unprecedented price. Here the foreign price. Here the foreign secretary, James Cleverly, has said the uk unequivocally condemns the horrific attacks by hamas on israeli civilians and labour leader sir keir starmer has also spoken this morning, saying there is no justification for this act of terror, adding israel has a right to defend herself. Of course , bring you herself. Of course, bring you more on this story throughout the morning as we get it on to other news now and the labour party has unveiled new plans to clamp down on Sexual Harassment in the workplace. Deputy leader Angela Rayner opened the labour party womens conference 2023 in liverpool, saying the labour party is the party of equality. Party is the party of equality. It comes as new figures show almost 5 million women in experienced such behaviour at work each year. Rayner Angela Rayner unveiled plans to break the Glass Ceiling and the Glass Ceiling next, Labour Government will amend the equality act to introduce a legal duty for employers to take all reasonable steps to stop Sexual Harassment before it starts. But thats not all. We will make misogyny a hate crime. Make misogyny a hate crime. Those are the headlines. Of course, you can get more on all of those stories by visiting our website, gb news. Com. Visiting our website, gbnews. Com. Now its back to western. Western. Thanks there, tamsen. Now were joined by lynn crilly and her daughter samantha, who are launching their trouble muncher toy ahead of Mental Health awareness week. Samantha has developed a teddy bear and app to support young people going through Mental Health issues. Theyre going to be giving away ten bears to the first ten children or parents who contact them. And were delighted. Say theyre were delighted. Say theyre both here with us now. Thank you both here with us now. Thank you very indeed for joining us. Very much indeed forjoining us. So, on, tell us about the so, come on, tell us about the trouble toy. Trouble muncher toy. So the idea came about about a good couple of years ago now. And something ive always struggled with is Mental Health. And something ive always strugaled with is Mental Health. And something ive always strugaled ofth is Mental Health. And something ive always strugaled of people. Ntal health. And something ive always strugaled of people. And health. And something ive always strugaled of people. And oneth. Like a lot of people. And one thing i always did, i was very lucky to be able to do was was message they be long message mum. They would be long thoughts , but a lot of them were thoughts, but a lot of them were kind of short, short thoughts. I mean, look and i feel a mean, i look back and i feel a bit sorry for you, i bit sorry for you, but i bombarded you with all these kind for. Yeah, i know. Kind of mums for. Yeah, i know. I look back and im like, my god. And just short god. And they were just short negative thoughts. They were god. And they were just short neg. Thingsioughts. They were god. And they were just short neg. Things that|ts. They were god. And they were just short neg. Things that cameey were god. And they were just short neg. Things that came into ere god. And they were just short neg. Things that came into my just things that came into my head and just send them head and i would just send them to and it quite to mum and it felt quite therapeutic. It was sort of a problem problem shared therapeutic. It was sort of a pranlem problem shared therapeutic. It was sort of a pra problem problem shared therapeutic. It was sort of a pra problem halved. |lem shared therapeutic. It was sort of a pra problem halved. And shared therapeutic. It was sort of a pra problem halved. And yeah, i is a problem halved. And yeah, yeah. For me, yeah. Mum yeah. For you, for me, yeah. Mum was sort of at home and i thought, what happens if people dont very close dont have. Im not very close to mum. What happens if to my mum. What happens if people arent very close to, to someone they love or they someone that they love or they trust . Where i trust . And thats where i thought the app. If you thought about the app. If you could thoughts into an could put your thoughts into an app could put your thoughts into an app, would kind of app, then that would kind of its kind toy thats its the same kind of toy thats in app and that toy would in the app and that toy would that that kind of character would would munch your would would munch up your thoughts and we did kind of loads, loads of captions when it would be easier. Your thoughts . Its people its mainly for younger people that. That have technology. Its getting rid of the maybe its getting rid of the negativity. Your brain. Yeah, negativity. Your brain. Yeah, just getting off your chest. Yes. So where were your negative thoughts coming from . You talk about your Mental Health. What was it . In what ways . What avenues were you down . Avenues were you going down . Mean , so i suffered from i mean, so i suffered from ocd and anorexia and oh, god, there was loads of them, but they would be maybe if i was out or if i was laying in my bed or they would be just ones where maybe id had a thought come into my head and intrusive thought. And i was struggling with would just say it to with it. I would just say it to you , id be like, this has come you, id be like, this has come into my head and youd say maybe youd it with me a little youd reason it with me a little bit. And you would just bit. And then you would just say, well, youve said it now, andits say, well, youve said it now, and its gone. So disassociation, thoughts. Got a bad and maybe if ive got a bad thought, ill share them thought, maybe ill share them with be a with phil, maybe it would be a mum dad or whatever it was. Mum or dad or whatever it was. But you then was but with you then there was deeper so it was deeper than that. So it was moving Mental Health and it moving into Mental Health and it was then for you triggering, not eating. Then is that it eating. Then is that what it was . Those thoughts . Was . What were those thoughts . Were they bad about you . Was it. Im not good enough . Were they confidence . Thought too im fat. What were thoughts . I mean, what were your thoughts . I mean, they everything what were your thoughts . I mean, they werent everything what were your thoughts . I mean, they werent they. Everything what were your thoughts . I mean, the theyerent they. Everything what were your thoughts . I mean, the theyerent mum everything what were your thoughts . I mean, the theyerent mum. verything what were your thoughts . I mean, the theyerent mum. Do ything what were your thoughts . I mean, the theyerent mum. Do you1g they were mum. Do you remember thoughts theyve remember the thoughts theyve gone head. Theyre in gone from my head. Theyre in you i certainly do. Yeah. You now. I certainly do. Yeah. No i think that it was obviously me. Sams 32 now, and it all started when she was 13. And were talking sort of nearly 20 years ago. Mental health wasnt years ago. Mental health wasnt talked about as much. And at the beginning, you just never think its going to be your child. You its going to be your child. You know, i dont know it was you. I think you were the only person in the school, though. Now we know that she wasnt that had mental ill health. But the thoughts at the beginning were really distorted. And i was thinking , really distorted. And i was thinking, oh, my god, you really distorted. And i was thinking , oh, my god, you know, thinking, oh, my god, you know, wheres all this coming from . Yeah. But then aftennards i realised that once she was telling me she actually felt better. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Did you feel, did you realise that at the time, did you realise at the that that realise at the time that that was helping were you was actually helping or were you feeling quite helpless at the time . Ti me . Time . I was feeling no, really helpless and as a we felt helpless and as a family we felt really helpless, is sort really helpless, which is sort of has led us into doing of what has led us into doing all within the mental all the stuff within the Mental Health and that do now. Health world and that we do now. Those, those cuddly toys and those, those cuddly toys where your little munchers. Yeah go fantastic lets say. Go on the fantastic lets say. So actually would child so what actually would a child do with is it put the words do with that is it put the words in the rucksack on the back. What you what would you do. Got a pad in the back theyve got a pad in the back that says, share troubles. That says, share your troubles. Yeah. Encourage his yeah. So itjust encourage his children express their children to express their feelings and to communicate because were in this really Technology Driven world. Yeah. Where a lot of them now are becoming quite introvert. Yeah. Becoming quite introvert. Yeah. Themselves and to talking actual people, they dont find easy. Yeah, but what they dont kind of know is that theyll put the thought in there. Then when they leave for school, the thought will be in there for their parents to come and look at. Obviously there. I mean, they dont know that their parents will come and pick it out, their parents can have out, but their parents can have a at what theyre worrying a look at what theyre worrying about and kind indirect way about and kind of indirect way if kid isnt talking about if their kid isnt talking about it, maybe they approach it, maybe they can approach it in totally in there and i totally agree with you said this for with you and ive said this for years, the communication is breaking down. Years, the communication is bre yes,; down. Years, the communication is bre yes,; dow might be years, the communication is bre yes,; dowmight be on years, the communication is bre yes,; dow might be on twitter yes, they might be on twitter and they might do 140 digits. Yeah, i say a lot of yeah, but i say a lot of peoples anger and upset and lack confidence is because lack of confidence is because they actually speak they cant actually speak through yeah. Yeah through an issue. Yeah. Yeah yeah, they talk they cant. They cant talk through it. And i think these are sort of aimed sort of are sort of aimed at sort of youngen are sort of aimed at sort of younger, 3 to 5, three younger, sort of 3 to 5, three upwards. Mean, they are in upwards. I mean, they are in some schools now. Was there a big thing for you to ring up your mom and tell her . Her what was because tell her what was what thoughts and what your thoughts were and everything . Because i mean, i totally get that you want totally get this, that you want totally get this, that you want to it down because its to write it down because its not just question of to write it down because its notjust question of you might not just a question of you might not just a question of you might not a question of not having somebody not being able to somebody or or not being able to express it, but there must be a bit sort of embarrassed about bit of sort of embarrassed about wanting not sure id wanting to. Im not sure id wanting to. Im not sure id want tell my parents. Yeah. Want to tell my parents. Yeah. And would you want them reading a note youd done . Can see that that no, but i can see that that in itself. Writing it down is actually it out of my actually getting it out of my system. A big thing system. But was it a big thing for to actually tell your for you to actually tell your mom as well . Were quite close, arent we . Were probably probably abnormally , so not really. Abnormally close, so not really. Need a monitor. You didnt need a monitor. Your mum was doing all the little bit weird, but lots of people arent that close. Yeah. So for me it wasnt. But when twin sister, she does have a twin. Yeah, i have a lovely twin sister. You never went to your but you never went to your twins you did . Twins sister. You did . Did. Sometimes yeah. I did. Sometimes yeah. Now the broken a lot more. The bar is broken a lot more. And amazing. But before it and shes amazing. But before it was bless you was just you. Yeah. In was bless you was just you. Yeah. In the early days. Yeah, well, on what well, youve brought on what youve. Youve produced. Obviously is fantastic. It obviously is fantastic. And that starting that and that is starting that communication to get rid of those bad thoughts and not go and Mental Health or and have Mental Health or anorexic. Yeah. Conditions i want to thank you both very much indeed. I want to thank you both very much indeed. I might have one of these. I might have one. Have one if i fall out with phil. Well, this could be my way communicating with him, but probably used no time. Probably used up in no time. Share your trouble. Well, ill share your trouble. Well, ill tell you what it is. Need to take me out. Look after me. Take me out for dinner. We you for sharing your we thank you for sharing your story. What youre story. Thank you for what youre doing. Really fantastic. Doing. Its really fantastic. Thank you. Thank you for having on. Thank you. Having us on. Thank you. Up, having us on. Thank you. Up, your anyway, coming up, your favourites, skudder favourites, Chris Skudder and haley be joining haley palmer will be joining us to give the latest to give you all the latest sports and showbiz friday, saturday and sunday from 9 00. Only on gb news britain. 9 00. Only on gb news britain. Welcome back to saturday morning live with esther and phil. Its now 1145. Weve got some views. Yes, we have. We were just speaking to lynne and Samantha Crilly about their trouble muncher. And james says, what a lovely idea. A touching lovely idea. In a touching story. Definitely get my child story. I definitely get my child a trouble muncher. Would a trouble muncher. They would really and laura really love it. And laura says, i severe anxiety. So i have severe anxiety. Im so pleased people are taking it properly the properly rather than taking the mick anxiety. A mick out of anxiety. What a lovely idea. Should just say lovely idea. I should just say there was we were talking about David Beckham and Victoria Beckham and whos to blame if theres obviously david theres a obviously David Beckham says there wasnt a fair and accept word for that. And we accept his word for that. But madeleine here says if it is true that he had an affair with rachel do not blame rachel luce, i do not blame rachel. Would done the rachel. I would have done the same. David beckham. David same. David David Beckham. David beckhams hot. So she would blame rebecca loos if that is actually true. Actually true. I think there was lots of women thinking that. Exactly. Absolutely now, look, were delighted to have sports journalist Chris Skudder and showbiz Hayley Palmer with us in the studio. And weve also got simon danchuk back in here for the last thought about what we should expect from the labour Party Conference coming up. So simon, obviously youve been to many a labour Party Conference. Therell be cockahoop the by Election Results there miles, ahead opinion polls. How ahead in the opinion polls. How do stop sort of complacency do they stop sort of complacency setting in this week . Yeah, i think kia has to seal the deal with the electorate at this conference. Its probably the last annual conference before a general election. It needs to put some meat on the bones in terms of policy. It needs to convince people that hes got solutions to illegal immigration. It needs to say where he stands in terms of Climate Change targets, where is he in terms of defence . Its not that long ago, kia was backing Jeremy Corbyn to be Prime Minister , who was anti nato and minister, who was anti nato and pro nuclear disarmament. So he needs to really frame himself, make it clear hes not just sitting on the fence, but hes going for this. And where he stands a variety of policies. Rishi sunak in his Conference Speech said that keir starmer and the labour party are trying to win the election by believing in nothing and saying nothing and that nobody notices. And hoping that nobody notices. Is that a fair criticism, do you think . Is that or do think think . Is that or do you think do think might think do you think people might think that keir starmer . That about keir starmer . Its a fair criticism i think its a fair criticism and looking at this by election in its to say in scotland, its fair to say that labour havent won the one the by election in the snp lost it and replicating that across the country isnt really enough to be able to gain power at a general election. And it was interesting, the leader of the unite union said oh, labours just managerial, it hasnt got anything, it isnt saying anything and not saying anything and its not standing what the, standing up for what the, the, the people but youre the people want. But youre staying with us here. And as i said, weve got chris, weve got hayley, the studio hayley, hayley in the studio giving showbiz. Giving us the latest showbiz. You im interested in. You know who im interested in. Ive always been fan and ive always been a huge fan and thatis ive always been a huge fan and that is of cher. Yeah. And shes doing first what, doing her first ever, what, christmas album something . Christmas album or something . Shes got a christmas album and a song. A christmas song. Im going to predict now and im going to predict now that to be christmas that its going to be christmas number i have the number one. I have heard the song and is an absolute tune. Song and it is an absolute tune. Even youd like it. Phil im a a massive fan of cher. I think shes brilliant. I think shes brilliant. Does it have a vocoder . She always vocoder things, always has those vocoder things, isnt was she the auto tune isnt she . Was she the auto tune thing . Cher, thing . Yeah but thats cher, isnt it . That sound. Its we love that sound. Its called dj play a christmas song. Shes also got an album coming out as well now, which features Stevie Michael and stevie wonder, Michael Buble and cyndi is out on cyndi lauper, which is out on the 20th of october. So go, go on, cher. I remember reading chers biography. I remember reading chers biography. Im not sure if it was autobiography or biography. And you dont talk about her voice, unique is. When voice, how unique it is. When she was called as backing she was called in as a backing singer. We have you. You singer. We cant have you. You know, you youre just your voice is unusual. And thats how is too unusual. And thats how she brilliant, because usually brilliant, because usually people dont do christmas. Its a bit gimmicky, but a bit gimmicky, isnt it . But this is this is the one richard used to do the christmas number one every year. You to going by chers are you to going by chers songi are you to going by chers song i could. Well do you know yeah but you know you forget how long ago know you forget how how long ago it was sonny and cher. I got you, babe. Right. Right song. Oh, he died, didnt he . Song. Oh, he died, didnt he . Sonny bono. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Skiing accident. Yeah, it was i yeah. Some years ago. Yeah. Some years ago. So lots going on in sport. So lots going on in sport. But before i say this, you know, weve talking know, weve all been talking about beckham netflix. Oh, about the beckham netflix. Oh, yeah, chris is in it. Yeah, yeah. Chris is in it. Cameo. Youre in it. Cameo. Youre in it. Hes in it. Yeah. Hes in it. Yeah. Yeah. Somebody texted. Yeah. Somebody texted. I havent seen yet, but i havent seen it yet, but somebody me the wrong somebody texted me the wrong reason. Reason. Any reason . It was a good one to be in. Chris you can tell us. What are you doing . What are you doing . Get on well with becks. I mean, he was. He was, of all the england players i used to interview, he was the one player you to think really bust you used to think really bust a gut. And it really mattered to him. Him that. You him. I loved him for that. You know, remember when he when him. I loved him for that. You kno day remember when he when him. I loved him for that. You kno day helember when he when him. I loved him for that. You kno day he finished hen he when him. I loved him for that. You kno day he finished the he when the day he finished the captaincy after the 2006 world cup, he cried, you know, in the media conference. And he got up out chair and started out of his chair and i started clapping, this is this clapping, you know, this is this is beckham exiting is megxit beckham exiting the stage, and he and he stage, you know, and he and he just went he didnt. Just he went and he didnt. Thats not what impartial journalists do, is it . Journalists normally do, is it . Just it was appropriate. But he did practise, practise, know his practise, practise. I know his dad. Practised practise dad. He practised practise practice to those goals. Practice to get those goals. Yeah yeah. The free kicks. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. He was, you know. He was, you know. So whats going on in the sport now . We the rugby sport now . We got the rugby world cricket world stop on world cup cricket world stop on becks, united. Becks, old club man united. Start 37 years. I worst start for 37 years. I think if they they lose at home to brentford today its three home row not home defeats in a row not happened i dont happened since 1962. I dont think you know the whole narrative whos buy narrative of whos going to buy the its dragged on and on the club. Its dragged on and on and on. Interesting. The womens team played last night and there was glazers out at was a massive glazers out at sign. You know, they want the americans of that club. You americans out of that club. You know, mens know, womens team, the mens team. Will happen eventually. Team. It will happen eventually. But you know, theyre theyre not popular. And the united is struggling because of it. Theyre brentford today, struggling because of it. Theyin brentford today, struggling because of it. Theyin the brentford today, struggling because of it. Theyin the league entford today, struggling because of it. Theyin the league milesi today, 10th in the league miles behind the clubs. The top few clubs. The big controversy was about was keegans comments this was Kevin Keegans comments this week we shouldnt have, week about we shouldnt have, you know, women pundits talking on the mens game. I think lots on the mens game. I think lots of people might secretly agree with him. I mean, i could care whether or women as whether theyre men or women as long good, you long as theyre good, but you cant say that. But well, cant really say that. But well, i have to know. I just have to know. Yeah, they have. But. But you know im saying is, i mean, know what im saying is, i mean, give some context late. Give us some context late. Should told me earlier. Kevin said that he likes female presenters. Theres some great around great female presenters around at really are. At the moment. There really are. What . Didnt doesnt like so what . He didnt doesnt like so much of having a much is the context of having a pundit. Talking about the pundit. So talking about the mens game, what he wants is players who have been there and done he did. Yeah. Players who have been there and done what he did. Yeah. Players who have been there and done what aredid. Yeah. Players who have been there and done what are you yeah. Players who have been there and done what are you saying . They so what are you saying . They dont really because they dont really know because they werent there and haley werent there and they haley would issue whether would you have an issue whether its female . Its male or female . No, because im just showbiz. Im just jazz hands. You dont think it matters so you dont think it matters whether a man or you not think. No comment . No, no, not. There are some good pundits. No comment . No, no, not. The but,e some good pundits. No comment . No, no, not. The but, you me good pundits. No comment . No, no, not. Thebut, you know, d pundits. No comment . No, no, not. Thebut, you know, ii pundits. No comment . No, no, not. The but, you know, i camdits. But, you know, i can understand the context. But, you know, i can uncthere|d the context. But, you know, i can unc there were context. But, you know, i can unc there were someext. But, you know, i can uncthere were some really good there were some really good female i mean, kelly cates is a really football presenter. Really good football presenter. I always think of sky sports. Think its you i also think its what you used what youre not used used to, what youre not used to. I remember and years to. I remember years and years ago when singers men ago when most singers were men rather women. Used rather than women. You were used to vocal cords of men, and to the vocal cords of men, and then to women, and then you got used to women, and now theyre the highest paid. I mean, its what you get used to. So are fonnard. So women are coming fonnard. Simon what women in football, ive been in football, said kevin his kevin keegan should keep his opinions what . Opinions to himself. What . Not really into well, im not really into football, but i think kevin does sound a bit of a sound like hes a bit of a bygone age of what hes bygone age in terms of what hes saying here. I think hes missing the mark. Is the missing the mark. Is behind the you narrative behind you can see the narrative behind the curve that one. The curve on that one. So. I think so. I think so. But listen, there are some very good female pundits. But, you know, some guys dont. On. More importantly, moving on. More importantly, elton win up range. This is more my thing because he is going to be the face of charlotte tilbury, which they always Big Christmas always have a Big Christmas campaign use campaign and i actually use charlotte skin. Charlotte tilbury on my skin. Elton john modelling and what elton john modelling it incentive for you to go it be an incentive for you to go and buy it . Hayley it seems a strange, a weird choice i must admit, usually it is. Admit, because usually it is. Kate moss but i think kate moss doing it well, and moss is doing it as well, and jordan dunn but elton john is being was like, oh, being picked and i was like, oh, okay. Interesting okay. Thats an interesting decision. Think were decision. But i think men were in makeup. Decision. But i think men were in rphil,jp. Decision. But i think men were in rphil, youve got someone phil, youve got someone right now. I have. Ive ive noticed. Anybody coming me to do their coming and asking me to do their christmas coming and asking me to do their chr im as coming and asking me to do their chrim going what coming and asking me to do their chr im going what face im going to say, what face cream do you use . No, its just makeup for the tv. It just make it for the tv. Im to make of what you are to sport. Hey there we go. All right, then. All right, then. The rugbys going to be good. Yeah, tell us the yeah, go on. Tell us about the Rugby World Cup. The getting to the its the were getting to the business of the tournament business end of the tournament now. So quarterfinals week. Now. So quarterfinals next week. Wales be there. England wales going to be there. England are going to be there. They might other might even play each other possibly. More possibly. Well know more this weekend. Game today, though. Weekend. Big game today, though. Scotland against ireland. Scotland against ireland. Scotland to be ireland today scotland got to be ireland today or going home. Or else theyre going home. Thats a tough ask. Got a horrible they in with horrible group they were in with south africa as well. Werent expected to go through. But its a effectively. A knockout game effectively. Ireland ireland to a knockout game effectively. Irelarbut ireland to a knockout game effectively. Irelar but these eland to a knockout game effectively. Irelarbut these things to a knockout game effectively. Irelarbut these things called lose. But these things called losing if you losing bonus points. So if you dont by more than seven dont lose by more than seven points, then get a point points, then you get a point nearly as complicated as the actual rules of rugby union. Honest. Are you a rugby to be honest. Are you a rugby union . To be honest. Are you a rugby unichns to be honest. Are you a rugby uniwChris Skudder no. Chris skudder no. Chris skudder no. Like any sport . No, would you like any sport . No, i dont do sport. You know, shaving. Does politics. Shaving. He does politics. Im on simon and yes. Im on the simon and haley non sports show. Haley show the non sports show. You very much. Simon, thank you very much. Simon, thank you very much. Thank very much, haley thank you very much, chris. You very much. Chris. Thank you very much.
