Its interesting, this business about Workplace Bullying because weve seen so many alleged instance of it just recently, particularly in the television industry. Have you ever seen it . Have you ever seen it . Well, certainly back in the days , i used to work on tabloid days, i used to work on tabloid newspapers and i would often see grown men crying in pubs in breaks because they were getting so carpeted. But that was just so carpeted. But that was just the norm. Then im not saying it was right, but it was absolutely the the late the norm. This is like the late 90s the norm. This is like the late 905 2000. 90s 2000. Yeah, certainly i think yeah, it certainly i think there are some jobs, some professions where its almost seen of rite of seen as a sort of rite of passage to be bullied. Editors of newspapers in the olden days, when i was a trainee , they were when i was a trainee, they were they were absolute demons. You almost said the word there. Yeah, exactly what you mean. Yeah they were horrible people. And it was seen as if you cant stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. Thats. Thats the james would be the answer if you complained at all of like that that might of anything like that that might be bullying or. Im feeling harassed. Yeah youd to, you know, youd just be told to, you know, get it. This is the job. Get on with it. This is the job. Made of. The you werent made of. The right therefore, you right stuff. Therefore, you cant grade. Therefore cant cut the grade. Therefore you stand the heat. Get you cant stand the heat. Get out of the kitchen. And of course, nowadays were seeing a complete that. The complete flip of that. The dominic are we dominic raab situation are we turning generation turning into generation snowflakes . Line . I dont know. I was thinking where what other professions would you think would have it . And you think inside know those inside hospitals, you know those consultant people consultant surgeons and people like who used to swan like that who used to swan around were around the wards and they were seen gods , but they were also seen as gods, but they were also horrible to deal with and they made their business to to, made it their business to to, really the Junior Doctors i and the same with police. Dont forget, theres many dont forget, theres so many cases bullying. But cases of police bullying. But again, that a kind of again, was that a kind of hangover from a previous generation, retrograde, bullying, racism, all bullying, sexism, racism, all that stuff . My mrs. As a teacher she tells me now you cant say boo to a goose. You cant say anything without being on an air wrap. Its so politically correct. Has it swung the other way where you cant even you cant be forceful about be grown up and forceful about things youd be accused things because youd be accused of bullying . Cant call out well, you cant call out bafic well, you cant call out basic incompetence of basic incompetence for fear of being tyrant. Thats being called a tyrant. Thats what i think, with the what happened, i think, with the dominic raab case. So theres a really line between really fine line between criticising which criticising work, which is completely being completely legitimate and being an tyrant, which of an overbearing tyrant, which of course too far. But who course is going too far. But who decides that line decides where that line is . I think very confused then. Yeah, i think people like dominic are confused about dominic raab are confused about it. I mean, he must have asked himself, i go too far or himself, did i go too far or didnt i . You dont want a minister, particularly during a crisis this time like covid. You dont want a minister to just be, oh, you know, soft and gentle and you need to get things done, dont you . And if somebody is not working, why shouldnt you actually tell them . Hand , and we them . On the other hand, and we live in the century now, live in the 21st century now, and should be able do and you should be able to do yourjob and you should be able to do your job without being and you should be able to do yourjob without being a bully. Id love to hear from anyone who. Have a view on who. Well, youll have a view on whether we are snowflakes nowadays or or whether we have a right to expect to be treated as human beings at work. Id love to hear your story, if youve got one to tell us. Do you get in touch . Of course. Usually gb views at gb news. Uk. No yes. No. Com. Com. These days. Com. Com. These days. Sorry. Yes i know weve gone progressive, but i still cant get it right. Gb views gb news. Com. You know im going to have to have it writ large somewhere so i can read it every time but on my forehead. Yeah. Yeah. Okay, ill do that. Its nice to be with you this morning. And you for steven is off this weekend. Hes going to be off you for steven is off this we theyve theyve got me in absolutely theyve theyve got me in absyeah. Y weve lot yeah. Yeah. Weve got a lot to talk about today. So shall we get on our story this get on with our top story this morning . Passengers facing morning . Rail passengers facing more disruptions as members of the out the rmt union are walking out again. Again today. 14 Rail Companies will be factored and large part of the factored and a large part of the rail Network Little or rail network will see little or no service at all today. Services that do run today will finish earlier than usual. Services that do run today will finiwell earlier than usual. Services that do run today will finiwell , earlier than usual. Services that do run today will finiwell , who rlier than usual. Services that do run today will finiwell , who can than usual. Services that do run today will finiwell , who can wein usual. Services that do run today will finiwell , who can we talkual. Services that do run today will finiwell , who can we talk to l. Well, who can we talk to about all this . Our travel guru, simon calder. About all this . Our travel guru, simon calder. And very good simon calder. And a very good morning you, simon. Morning to you, simon. Morning. From a station good morning. From a station where things are running normally. Unfortunately, its in france and actually things are running pretty normally in lovely Northern Ireland, beautiful scotland and wonderful wales because those Railway Companies are not affected by the National Strike. However, thousands upon thousands of trains are being cancelled today because of yet another strike by members of the rmt union in an extraordinarily long and bitter dispute over pay and working conditions trains. And that means that if you are making an intercity journey, a journey to or from the seaside, well, you absolutely need to check in advance. Interestingly, there advance. Interestingly, there are more trains i calculate running today on a National Strike day than they have been before. But even so, exactly as before. But even so, exactly as you say, things will be wrapping up at about 7 pm. And the message very much from the train operators is do not start a journey unless youre absolutely sure that you can finish it. And to be fair, ive travelled a lot ever since the first strike day , well, since the 1980s, which was 21st of june last year. Most strike days ive travelled by train and the services which are advertised tend to run pretty efficiently. Efficiently. Simon this has been going on for so long now. We know mick the grinch lynch tried to steal christmas. The grinch lynch tried to steal christmas. Now it seems hes trying to steal the summer. This has been going forever. Its has been going on forever. Its got to be the longest strike since i was kid in the 1970s. Since i was a kid in the 1970s. What are they after and what do you think going to take to you think its going to take to reach some kind of breakthrough . Summed it up well, youve summed it up beautifully martin yeah , beautifully there, martin yeah, i was all going to be i thought it was all going to be over by christmas. But last christmas, id be glad if its over coming christmas. Over by this coming christmas. There is a fundamental gap between what the unions want and expect it. And were not just talking here about the rmt. Weve got the usual aslef overtime bans , a whole series of overtime bans, a whole series of them which are basically running on monday to saturday very regularly through the saturday and through through the summer , and through through the summer, and through through the summer, and unfortunately next saturdays pride event in brighton, one of the biggest pride events in the country there will be no trains to brighton because they didnt think that they could run enough with the overtime ban going on. But lets lets have look at but lets lets have a look at whats happening the rmt whats happening with the rmt and actually its the Train Drivers Union as well. The same thing which is they many in many cases havent had a rise for four years. They say we want a decent increase in pay and please give us that because obviously we worked all the way through covid and were expecting inflation to continue to be high. So we want that decent pay rise. The train operators who actually are basically just doing the governments bidding say, well, you cant havent you seen what a disaster finances are in the Rail Industry since covid . And basically the bedrock of season ticket sales people paying thousands of pounds every year to commute in from places like winchester and woking . Well thats all gone. And not all gone, but large parts of it has as people tend to work more flexibly. Therefore we have really short of money and the only way you can get even a modest increase is if you agree to changes in working conditions. And the unions who are used to and good luck to them every time theres a so called modernisation or an efficiency , they would extract efficiency, they would extract an extra few for that. They say an extra few for that. They say no, you know, give us a decent pay no, you know, give us a decent pay rise and then we can talk about modernisation. And im afraid those two sides are far apart and theres no sign of. Apart and theres no sign of. Well, its interesting , well, its interesting, simon, that talking to you there in france at a Railway Station , in france at a Railway Station, how do we compare with other countries . Is it just us having problems with our travel unions , u5, problems with our travel unions , us, or is are we fairly typical of the rest of europe. Typical of the rest of europe. Live tv yeah. Live tv yeah. Live tv yeah. Well, at least it proves the trains are running somewhere. Go on, simon. Well try and. Yes, thank you. Yes, thank you. That was the longest free Freight Train in history. So yeah, let me tell you whats what the situation is in france. We have had terrible strikes. We have had terrible strikes. I mean, i dont know what the equivalent of Michael Lynch is. Equivalent of Michael Lynch is. Mick lynch here, but he certainly was the grinch who stole christmas because they did actually cancel a whole load of services due to strikes over christmas. This was mostly due to the shocking suggestion that they might raise the pension age, too, from 62 to 64. And the same thing with air Traffic Control, by the way, although theyve all gone quiet, thank goodness. And can i im slightly straying off the trains just for a moment, but great news overnight, which is that the air Traffic Control , euro control Traffic Control, euro control strike, which was threatening thousands of flights every day, thatis thousands of flights every day, that is effectively off. And they reached a deal last night. Theyre putting it out to the voters recommended to accept. So voters recommended to accept. So thats one thing crossed off my thing list of things to worry about. But anyway , germany also. About. But anyway, germany also. And the thing about germany is that they dont have this minimum two week war warning. So that mean the good thing is that, you know, in the uk, if you are going to be disrupted because they have to give two weeks warning in germany, they just sort of say almost at the drop of a hat, oh yeah, were going on strike tomorrow, no trains. So yeah, there are, theres a lot of unhappiness. But the uk is different because the does not subsidise trains the uk does not subsidise trains to the same extent as other European Countries is and therefore the government wants some more money from the passengers which it isnt getting. So the only other thing they can do is try and make the whole whole train set a bit more efficient. Well, simon, isnt part of the problem back to the uk situation with the with the train strikes. We have a very different world now post pandemic journeys themselves are a fraction of what they were before. Were seeing a work from home. It was about 54 of pre pandemic journey rates and profits are plummeting as a result. And of course 62 there or thereabouts out of profit from Train Companies who are private is actually from the state who are propping it up. So this pay deal is almost a pay deal of a different time in in as far as it relies on the pubuc as far as it relies on the public purse at a time when the revenue simply isnt coming in. So its government money at a time when the magic money tree has simply been burnt to the ground. Oh, very much so. Yes. And anybody the rail unions say, oh, well, youve got all these shareholders, all these Foreign Companies who are making money, and if only that money was put back into the railway, then wed be able to afford pay increases. Well, im afraid its only a couple of that youre talking about thats effective. A about thats effective. A management fee. We dont have management fee. We dont have the same franchising system as we did before covid. Its effectively youre a train company, you do what the department for transport tells you and you get a couple of fee on top of that. It is. Its looking pretty intract all the passenger numbers are coming back. Martin but whats happening is that they are coming back on leisure journeys where typically, thank goodness , we pay a heck of a lot less for our tickets than you do if you are buying a season ticket. So that allows you to get to work in a big city every week. Work in a big city every week. So were not spending as much. And the trouble is, leisure is exactly where the rescue of the railways is coming from. But every time people want to plan a trip, they say, well, actually, we cant do it more than two weeks ahead because we dont know how disrupted the trains will what were now seem will be. So what were now seem to be in is a kind of war of attrition with the unions saying were going to keep striking or having overtime bans for as long as takes. And the government as it takes. And the government and operators saying, and the train operators saying, well, actually were well, we think actually were detecting signs that people are coming back to work. Theyve lost thousands pounds lost thousands of pounds already. Therefore, what already. And so therefore, what were is just keep were going to do is just keep taking these strikes and. Well, i mean, last last saturday, for instance, i managed to travel from canterbury to london on a strike day. And thats the first strike day. And thats the first time trains have run there. Time trains have run there. Increasingly, there are kind of pretty Reliable Services on strike days. And so that the train operators say indicates that more and more people are kind of drifting back to work. But its a miserable situation because, of course , stuck because, of course, stuck absolutely in the middle. Is the poon absolutely in the middle. Is the poor, old, long suffering passenger. Passenger. Yeah, absolutely. And families who are trying to get away with their kids at the moment as well because theyve just gone on holiday. Im always fascinated. Simon join fascinated. Simon when we join you, p0p fascinated. Simon when we join you, pop in various you, you pop up in various different places throughout the world. What is it, work or leisure that to the leisure that brings you to the south france this morning . South of france this morning . And look, life is one oh, and look, life is one long holiday when youre in the travel journalism business. Occasionally i will pop up and pretend to do a bit of work, but most of the time ive got my feet up with a cup of coffee or depending on the time of day, maybe glass of wine and maybe a glass of wine and enjoying sunshine and the enjoying the sunshine and the beautiful mediterranean. Temperatures here. You cut a striking figure, dont you just of plonk dont you just sort of plonk yourself the middle yourself in the middle of an arrivals at heathrow arrivals hall at Heathrow Airport there you are on a airport or there you are on a Railway Station in france. Anyway, whatever it is, have a good time. And we look forward to seeing you very soon. Thank you. Popping up somewhere else in the world. Thank thank you. And just love the fact that and i just love the fact that even a Freight Train cant stop. Theres anyone simon, if theres anyone going sees going past and sees simon, i want to know what he looks. Is he sitting down a little he sitting down on a little bench on the. Yeah, i think theyre there. And anywhere he goes, he and coffee anywhere he goes, he makes a hotspot and makes an office. Very, very adaptable. 5 adaptable. Does he carry a little carry one of those suitcases that you can and set it up and can sit on and set it up and have a little camera there . Id love to what he looks like love to see what he looks like from and people think from afar and what people think when walking past him, when theyre walking past him, too. Thats simon calder too. Anyway, thats simon calder. Amazing. Man. Absolutely amazing. The man who everything about who knows everything about travel. Goodness. Right. Travel. Thank goodness. Right. Shall move on . The time is shall we move on . The time is 615. Very good morning to you. 615. A very good morning to you. Youre watching me and martin here on breakfast on gb news next door. Now, donald trump, the former us president , said he would not end his 2024 president ial campaign if he is convicted and sentenced on the charges against him. Its extraordinary , isnt it . We actually could get into that scenario we were all that scenario that we were all talking about. We were almost laughing about it. The idea that he could actually he could perhaps go to prison , but still perhaps go to prison, but still become president and then pardon himself. Yeah, it is extraordinary. This is all happening despite his former lawyer in the Mueller Investigation now saying the evidence against him is overwhelming. Overwhelming. And on the other side of the divide, the plea deal against joe bidens son, hunter, also fell apart as the judge found it to be unusual. Thats it in a statement a year out from the next election. Is this best next election. Is this the best really that america can do . Do wonder if youre an really do wonder if youre an american citizen and youre going vote , what sort of going to vote, what sort of choice are you facing . So lets head to tennessee and speak to a lawyer and political commentator, steve gill. A very good morning, steve. Hey, i want to be simons assistant when i grow up. Yeah yeah. What . He doesnt seem to need one. Thats whats incredible. One. Thats whats incredible. But i mean, back to the states , but i mean, back to the states, the state of politics at the moment in the states. I dont know what you would do if youre an american citizen at the moment, except tear your hair out. Whats going on on both sides of the political divide. Sides of the political divide. You know, i hate to tell you, here in tennessee years ago, we had the majority leader of the Democratic Party in the Tennessee State house go to jail, get re elected from jail, and then resume his position as the top democrat in the house. So its unusual, but its not unprecedented to see this kind of criminal activity end up in somebodys either getting re elected or or perhaps in this case, maybe pardoning themselves. You know, i think themselves. You know, i think the most interesting thing about the most interesting thing about the whole last week is the hunter biden case, plea deal falling apart because you had both the prosecutors and the defence team apparently conspiring together to do kind of a secret deal to get him immunity from both crimes. Hes been charged with crimes he might be charged with and things he might do in the future. And the judge saw through it and threw out because this would threw it out because this would be the be unprecedented. But the prosecution and the defence were basically conspiring to try to pull one over on the judge, and it didnt work. Its an astonishing state of affairs because trump should really kind of under cosh really be kind of under the cosh over yet hunter biden over this. And yet hunter biden is handing the trump team a great opportunity. The Approval Ratings are extraordinary. So donald trump is 56 unfavourable. Bill biden , who unfavourable. Bill biden, who should should be romping ahead is 54 an approval. So it seems , steve, that the option is to voters , do you want to be hung voters, do you want to be hung or do you want to be shot . Well , and or do you want to be shot . Well, and its not just the presidency. Weve got Dianne Feinstein , the octogenarian feinstein, the octogenarian senator from california, who had a complete brain freeze this week. You have mitch mcconnell, who leads the republicans in the senate, who had an 18 minute or 18 second brain freeze. I mean, 18 second brain freeze. I mean, we are being led by folks who are way past their Expiration Date on a milk carton and its not just the presidency. Not just the presidency. No, thats right. Oh dear. Were seeing pictures of President Biden falling up those aircraft steps and i know that accidents can happen and theres nothing wrong with being old and very, very experienced. But its just not a good look, is it, for either of the big candidates for the hunter biden thing . Its not hunter biden whos standing for office. So how damaging is it to his father that hes facing all these awful charges . These awful charges . I think its the conflagration, the whole thing coming together on fire of where he was getting the money. Theres no doubt that he was getting tens of millions of dollars. Im talking about hunter. And then it was being disbursed biden family disbursed to biden family members. Like he members. But its not like he was money from uruguay members. But its not like he wawas money from uruguay members. But its not like he wawas getting ney from uruguay members. But its not like he wawas getting money m uruguay members. But its not like he wawas getting money from uguay members. But its not like he wawas getting money from chile. Or was getting money from chile. He it from china and he was getting it from china and ukraine, where we have an active war with russia right now, with china war. China thats threatening war. Its these outside foreign its where these outside foreign dollars were coming from and whether and how they were affecting us Foreign Policy under president and may be under President Biden and may be affecting things. Now were continuing billions of continuing to pour billions of dollars into ukraine, where we now know they were putting millions of dollars into Hunter Bidens pockets and maybe some of that money was going into president pocket. President bidens pocket. Steve, rhonda santos, the and steve, rhonda santos, the Florida Governor who was seen as the next great white hope, the kind of successor to trump. Hes going through a sticky patch as well. Hes been saying that anybody whos been in jail should be banned from voting. Hes had a hes had a storm of protests about that. Hes also now 46 unfavourable. All he was meant to be the great hope for the future for the republicans. He seems to be withering away. Trump is still ahead by nearly 30 points nationally in every state against him. So it still seems, despite all of the muck thats been thrown around, trump is still very much the front runner. Runner. Yeah, and every indictment just strengthens his hand in the republican primary. Now, how thats going to play in the general election when libertarian and female voters and young voters get get their chance who arent as partisan as the primary is, well see how that plays out. Ron desantis has just apparently fired about one third of Campaign Staff third of his Campaign Staff trying to reset things and weve seen here in the us , when seen here in the us, when somebody runs for president for the first time, they may be a very successful governor or senator or businessperson. It is senator or businessperson. It is a game to move into the a big game to move into the ranks rather than playing at your local club. So its a big jump your local club. So its a big jump to go to that next level and we see so often that that people cant make that jump as effectively as as they might have thought. I think well watch see because its all watch and see because its all going to play out in front of us, isnt it, very shortly. Us, isnt it, very shortly. Its lovely to talk to you. Thank for joining thank you so much for joining us. Steve gill there, the political commentator and political commentator and political lawyer there in tennessee. My goodness , you kind tennessee. My goodness, you kind of almost makes british politics look sedate. Yes, were beginning to look quite, quite dull. Compared now. We are. Dull. Dull compared now. We are. Yes. Let me ever be. So yes. Yeah. Let me ever be. So its carnage. Were going to talk in a few minutes about bullying in the workplace. Weve seen an awful lot of it playing out very in the media at the out very big in the media at the moment because theres moment because of theres clearly allegedly been some bullying on in the world bullying going on in the world of television. We that it of television. We know that it goes the world of the goes on in the world of the press, but thats just our world. What about have you world. What about you . Have you ever bullied in the ever been bullied in the workplace because it can be very damaging and it stays with you for years . I think because you feel this terrible sense of injustice. Plus, i think it can get you down very badly and depress people a lot. And change probably their whole attitude towards their own career. But it if youve ever been a victim of it, are you a snowflake or did you have a real right to complain or wish to complain . Complain or wish to complain . Wed love to hear from you. Well youre watching and listening to breakfast with anne and martin this morning. Still to come, weve got lots of things to talk about. Were going to be talking about. Were going to be talking about Workplace Bullying in a moment. And i know youve got views already, but if you are watching just, what, 20 odd minutes ago we were talking to our travel gurus, simon calder , our travel gurus, simon calder, who is pops up all over the who is he pops up all over the world to talk to us and give us the very latest on whats happening in the travel world and i was wondering what it looks like because he he goes looks like because he he he goes to Heathrow Airport or any big airport he just plonks airport and he just plonks himself does talks to himself down and does talks to camera and talks to us. And i was thinking, what does he look like when he does that . Does he have a little tripod there . He puts camera on. No, look, puts his camera on. No, look, hes sent us a photograph hes just sent us a photograph of what he looks like when hes sitting there talking us this sitting there talking to us this morning Railway Station morning from a Railway Station in the south of france. And hes literally plonked himself literally just plonked himself down on bench. Yeah, hes got down on a bench. Yeah, hes got his laptop his lap, and hes his laptop on his lap, and hes just sort of sits there and talks to us. A one man band, a tour de force, unstoppable. Not even force, unstoppable. Not even a Freight Train to stop in this. No, but it was a very long Freight Train that went past silencing for a few moments. Silencing him for a few moments. But think thats thats but i just think thats thats extraordinary that maybe nowadays i suppose its not so unusual see Somebody Just unusual to see Somebody Just sitting down to talking a laptop because thats how we all keep in touch with each other nowadays , cafes are packed with nowadays, cafes are packed with people on their laptops, most of them any work. Simon however , is so simon however, is so adaptable, superb. Adaptable, superb. Yeah, absolutely. We were also asking you if youre going to do a staycation soon, if you can get train to take you can get a train to take you wherever you want to go, where would you go . Where would you highly recommend other highly recommend to other people . Of people . Ben says the isle of wight. Is simply magical and wight. It is simply magical and mysterious, too. So degree peters got a very interesting point. Uk is great for holidays, but how do families it . Because families now afford it . Because i went to llandudno in wales this absolutely fantastic this week. Absolutely fantastic place. My wife i have place. But my wife and i have fish and chips. Guess how much it costs . We shared one portion of chips and mushy peas. £22, £22, fish and chips , one portion. I mean, you do hear these reports now that fish and chips are becoming a really expensive dish. And they they go with going to a British Seaside resort. Its got to be done. Youve got to have your fish and chips. But £22 for one portion, thats a sting is quite expensive. I hope. I hope it was tasty. So if youve got to add tasty. So if youve got to add anything, dont dont forget it is somebody very kind has written it down for me now. Gb views that gbnews. Com. Yes. You got it. Got it in one. So go on to this business of Workplace Bullying. The itv chef james martin, well, he is the latest celebrity to be accused of bullying in the workplace , as of bullying in the workplace, as it were, after a series of incidents have been reported by staff. Yeah, but it has become a frequent problem in the workplace with the Human Resources company cipd , Resources Company cipd, revealing that 53 of those bullied or harassed in the last three years did not even report the problem to a higher authority. Well, thats right. Everybody has a problem with bullying, dont they . Am i being bullied . I about it . Bullied . What do i do about it . Will get worse if i report will it get worse if i report it, or am i being a snowflake . How do you even know youre being at work . What being bullied at work . And what can it . Can you do about it . Well, morning , can you do about it . Well, morning, were well, this morning, were joined director of joined by managing director of conduct change, nikki who conduct change, nikki ayer, who provides consultancy, coaching and solutions rooted in and Training Solutions rooted in the prevention of workplace place bullying. So nikki , the place bullying. So nikki, the incident with with james martin was fairly extreme. He was using was fairly extreme. He was using expletives allegedly over damage done to his driveway , but he was done to his driveway, but he was saying people might have to go and stand in the rain, have their lunch outside. And he was angry about something with good reason, simply reason, perhaps, but he simply went too but where is that went too far. But where is that line . How do you know when that line . How do you know when that line . How do you know when that line is being crossed . Because we earlier, had we were saying earlier, we had some newspapers some tyrants in newspapers and journalism um, that was the journalism. Um, but that was the norm but where is the norm then. But where is the acceptable norm these days, would you say . Its a really would you say . Its a really interesting question. And one of the problems with Workplace Bullying is that theres a level of subjectivity and people, you know, some people would be able take people would be able to take different kinds behaviour and different kinds of behaviour and for people it would for other people it would be a real problem. Um, however, what were looking at were really looking at is a pattern of that behaviour here. So when it comes to abuse, its not just somebody having a bad day, its not just something has gone and you know, theyve gone wrong and you know, theyve got other things going on. I know in the martin case, know in the james martin case, hes now talked about all the other things were causing other things that were causing him in his personal life him stress in his personal life. Yes, we have those. We. Yes, we all have those. We have bad days. But when that behaviour is repeated , when behaviour is repeated, when there is a pattern , when it there is a pattern, when it becomes a personal attack on people, when it undermines them, humiliates them , puts them in humiliates them, puts them in a really tricky position in front of other people, in particular, although a lot of it is very covert. But then were moving from a bad day into a pattern of Workplace Bullying. Workplace bullying. What i dont understand is if it happened to me , i would worry it happened to me, i would worry about whether just complaining about whether just complaining about it to somebody from the Hr Department would actually make things worse because what do they do . What can what can they do . It usually the bullying is usually coming from somebody whos senior to you. And thats whos senior to you. And thats the problem, isnt it . So how do you , the hr person, sort it out you, the hr person, sort it out without making it worse . Without making it worse . So bullying can happen in every direction. So more often every direction. So more often than not, we think about it as the person whos in a superior position , if you like. But its position, if you like. But its about a power imbalance. So actually it can be upwards, it can be sideways, and it can be downwards. But one of the problems weve got is that when people go to report bullying , people go to report bullying, what happens at that stage . And what happens at that stage . And what happens at that stage . And what we tend to find is that people have moved into formal processes very quickly and formal processes. They taking out a grievance , you know, out a grievance, you know, raising a written complaint against that other person. Against that other person. Thats when it becomes very damaging. Thats when a lot of the mental and physical Health Damage comes in as well. And thats because at that stage, what were trying to do, what the organisation is trying to do, is make sure that they have ticked all the boxes and they dont go to a tribunal. What the dont go to a tribunal. What the person who has been bullied is trying to do is say , im really trying to do is say, im really unhappy with this and i dont want it to happen anymore. But want it to happen anymore. But we tend to go straight into that formal process instead of saying , what can we humanly do to have a look at this situation . How can we have those conversations 7 can we have those conversations . How can we look at the Bigger Picture and see whats going on . Because actually there are many, many things that influence whether somebody is going to bully or not. But unfortunately, once you get into a formal process, theyre looking for a win lose and its much more of a grey area than that. So, you know, my first piece of advice is that should be your last resort. Only go to formal resort. Only go to formal processes as a last resort. Processes as a last resort. And how much of your work is from people whove been bullied coming to you as opposed to institutions must be terrified now of being approached for allegations of being bullied. It can lead to Senior Management who take years and lots of investment to get that stage. Investment to get to that stage. So how much of work is so how much of your work is protecting bosses from claims . Because lets face it , this is because lets face it, this is such a grey area. Its like a wild west out. It is, i think, one of the really big things about Workplace Bullying is that people been to talk people have been afraid to talk about it and actually a lot of my work is actually about the training, the going in, the opening conversations opening up those conversations is because theres a huge amount of emotion attached to the word bully. But when we actually allow people the opportunity to say, what is bullying . What are all the different bullying behaviours , what is it that behaviours, what is it that turns something from a bad day or a moment of incivility to escalating into a pattern of behaviour and add . A lot of my work is actually around working with organisations where there are entrenched behaviours , so are entrenched behaviours, so people work in a particular way. You learn an awful lot of your own behaviour from observation. So when you go into a workplace and you see somebody who puts others down, who undermine those people who will shout at people who uses that kind of approach to get their own way, then when you see them being promoted , you you see them being promoted, you start to say, well, thats the behaviour thats going to get me rewarded , start to adopt it. Rewarded, start to adopt it. Even on an unconscious level. And thats how we get these cultures of toxic bullying behaviour in organisations. Yeah, i mean thats really interesting is that bullies often do well in the, in the work structure , dont they. Work structure, dont they. And maybe we learn off that, were going to say thank you very much and leave you. Nikki sadly, because the audio from coming from where you are at the moment is, is just not working right. What youve been right. But what youve been saying absolutely fascinating saying is absolutely fascinating. I find that really. I find that that really interesting. Bullies often do interesting. Bullies often do well workplace. Well in the workplace. And its interesting because you know, i had bosses , as you know, i had bosses, as i said, that were quite tyrannical , but actually i wanted to gain their respect and a compliment from them meant so much. And juuan from them meant so much. And julian in coventry has sent in a fascinating point here. I joined the police years ago and i remember handing a report a day late and the way my sergeant spoke me in of the spoke to me in front of the whole shift, no doubt today i could accuse that sergeant of bullying and get him sacked. But ive forgotten him and now ive never forgotten him and now regard as my best regard him as my best ever supervisor. Could have had. So supervisor. I could have had. So there we go. There we go. Well, thats one side of the argument, it . I just argument, isnt it . And i just dont know where you draw the line. You see, im not terribly sure. I trust hr people for their sort it out. I their ability to sort it out. I remember i cant remember once, i cant i cant quite figure out why, but i had a problem with somebody at work and i mentioned it to the next boss up is there something you can do about that . And he said, why dont we all get you all together and talk it through . And he called this guy in and i was made to actually go through what my grievance was. And then hear the guys defend himself and the boss sort of said, and the big boss sort of said, there, weve sorted it out havent we . And i thought, no, you sorted it out, you havent sorted it out, youve me and youve youve humiliated me and youve made it made everything worse. And it took years before i got on with that person. Yeah, he thought he was trying to air grievances and actual fact. It made you look like snitch. Yes caused like a snitch. Yes and it caused the problem be exacerbated. The problem to be exacerbated. Did, because then was it did, because then it was out open that we didnt out in the open that we didnt like each other. Yeah. There you go. That was awful. But go. And that was awful. But i mean, and that was barely anything. Really wasnt huge. Mean, and that was barely anyti ing. Really wasnt huge. Mean, and that was barely anyti know really wasnt huge. Mean, and that was barely anyti know that ly wasnt huge. Mean, and that was barely anyti know that soment huge. Mean, and that was barely anyti know that some people e. Mean, and that was barely anyti know that some people have but i know that some people have huge at work and it huge problems at work and it scars scar you for scars you. It can scar you for life because its your and life because its your work and you cant give up your work you cant just give up your work and move somewhere new. Yeah, theres somebody yeah, and theres somebody here, echoes that here, ben, who echoes that precise sentiment. Theres neven precise sentiment. Theres never, excuse for never, ever any excuse for it. It weakness on part of it shows weakness on the part of the bully and nothing else. It must out. Must be stamped out. Thats the bully thats true. But the bully often does. Well thats what thats true. But the bully ofteryou. S. Well thats what thats true. But the bully ofteryou. And all thats what thats true. But the bully ofteryou. And then ats what thats true. But the bully ofteryou. And then the what thats true. But the bully ofteryou. And then the other gets you. And then the other people copy behaviour. And people copy that behaviour. And before youve to before anything, youve got to sort of toxic workplace. Yeah and with with and what happened with with whats his name as well. Whose name. I cant remember. Whats his name as well. Whose narjamesant remember. Whats his name as well. Whose narjames martin. Ember. James martin. James martin. Apparently they were, yeah. Apparently they were, they shooting some sort of they were shooting some sort of cookery at his home. Cookery sequence at his home. Thats right. Yeah. Thats right. Yeah. And then one of the crew put some oil in his bin and it leaked onto his drive. He had his drive tarted up £26,000 worth of damage. He said. And so he kind of he flew off the handle, an expletive fidden off the handle, an expletive ridden tirade has to be said that seemed quite, quite long. Yeah like you really did lose it. And i was using lots of words we cant use on breakfast. But is that bullying . If you lose it and you have an absolute tantrum, well, is that bullying . Because. That bullying . No, because. Because nikki , there was saying because nikki, there was saying bullying is when it bullying is really is when it when it keeps happening, when theres behaviour. Theres a pattern of behaviour. I think instance, but i think in this instance, if look at the transcript of if you look at the transcript of it, which the Sun Newspaper had, it, which the Sun Newspaper had, it went from just kind of having having letting off steam about having a letting off steam about the to singling people the incident to singling people out and stand in out and saying go and stand in the outside, have your the rain outside, have your lunch outside rain. At lunch outside in the rain. At that i think an it that point, i think an it becomes a personal, targeted attack. He just went attack. And i think he just went too far. Well, if youve ever been bullied the workplace or and bullied in the workplace or and wondered what to do about it and literally wondered yourself , literally wondered yourself, whether youre a snowflake or youre a real victim, do get in touch and give us your story. Should look at todays should we take a look at todays newspapers . The saturday newspapers . So the saturday telegraph home telegraph says second home owners to face paying twice owners are to face paying twice the amount of council tax under new because theyve got new laws because theyve got twice number of properties. Twice the number of properties. Seems all right to me. Yeah, a conservative policy seems strange. Anyway, yeah, a conservative policy seeitimes strange. Anyway, yeah, a conservative policy seeitimes police|ge. Anyway, yeah, a conservative policy seeitimes Police Forces yway, yeah, a conservative policy seeitimes Police Forces are y, the times Police Forces are promising to investigate every single crime. After years of single crime. After years of overlooking low level offences. What . Theyre not looking at crime already anyway. I would have thought that was their job i would have thought that was theirjob in the mail. Keir starmer has night faced starmer has last night faced fresh for him to get off fresh calls for him to get off that fence and and delay the that fence and try and delay the expansion of londons ultra low emission zone and back to the migrant round. Now army chiefs are being blamed for delays in housing migrants on a key military base. And thats according to an exclusive on the front page of the express and finally, the star says not now. Pesky ice age killers , as pesky ice age killers, as apparently theyre reporting that humankind could be wiped out by ancient nasties released from millennia old melting ice. From millennia old melting ice. Actually, that is quite a cool story. I saw that yesterday. Yeah, theyd theyve managed to get is it some sort of a worm. Yeah. That that didnt wasnt killed in the ice age. It was killed in the ice age. It was just frozen and went into a deep dormant sleep so it was never actually dead. Yeah. And theyve actually dead. Yeah. And theyve theyve found these worms in this bit of ice and theyve been able to defrost them and they are now alive. This is like Steve Corbett is the thing. Yeah. Yeah. With worms actually rely that story. Story. Well thats the next question is if thats true of worms, what else could be deep frozen in the ice . Yeah. Global warming once again is going to kill us this time a different way via the time in a different way via the medium worms. Medium of worms. Well, something that. Well, Something Like that. Joining morning to make joining us this morning to make some sense of this is Political Editor of the huffpost uk, Kevin Schofield, and writer and commentator candice holdsworth. Its lovely to see both. Its lovely to see you both. Thank you so much. Superb. So, kevin , first of were going kevin, first of all, were going to to that front page of the to go to that front page of the telegraph about council tax doubung telegraph about council tax doubling for people whove got second homes. Mean, it does strike yeah, i mean, it does strike me bit odd for me as a little bit odd for a conservative government to be putting up taxes, we already putting up taxes, but we already have highest tax burden have the highest tax burden in something so Something Like 70 years. So maybe that much of maybe its not that much of a shock. But yeah, this is michael gove, the housing secretary, as part of the levelling up and regeneration bill. This is going to give local authorities apparently the power to double council tax on peoples second homes. Now, you might think if youre rich enough to have a second home, then you can well afford it. And which is certainly 11. Of view, as i say, the other point of view would be, well, what are conservatives doing putting up taxes . It might well politically backfire on them because would imagine them because you would imagine that people who are rich that most people who are rich enough to have a second home might well be conservative voters, it might make them voters, and it might make them think in the think twice about back in the tories. But do. Tories. Yeah, but we do. We have in places where people homes, we people like second homes, we have , we have seaside have villages, we have seaside resorts where half the housing is empty. Is empty. That is the argument. That is basically the whole purpose of it. Really raise it. Its not really to raise revenue as although revenue as such, although although it will, it will. And its and solve this its to try and solve this problem, the scourge, as its described, of empty properties. Its interesting because local people out of the market, its a £200 million tax rate coming here on 100,000 homes. A lot of places like devon, cornwall, the Lake District, places where locals have been frankly priced out of the houday frankly priced out of the Holiday Market by outsiders. Holiday market by outsiders. Yeah. So its a different its a difficult balance in that candies wet but this is a tory government putting a tax against as said second homes. It just seems like electoral suicide. Well kind of. But i mean i suppose michael gove is more of an old school conservative. Hes not necessarily focusing on and prioritising economics. Hes prioritising economics. Hes Prioritising Community and family and those are conservative values. And in some of these places, people are saying, you know, our communities are becoming displaced. You know, children cant houses near to their cant buy houses near to their parents because youve just got all these empty properties. But of , the other thing to of course, the other thing to consider is, will it damage the local economy these local economy of these communities . Obviously communities . Because obviously a lot tourism comes through. Lot of tourism comes through. People doing airbnb and things like that. Really is like like that. So it really is like you have sort weigh up you have to sort of weigh up what priorities are. And in what your priorities are. And in this they to be this case they seem to be Prioritising Community prioritising the community over making money presumably making money and presumably theyll that price on theyll just pass that price on if its an airbnb to the to the beleaguered customer. Anyway, always to anyway, who always seems to foot the bill. Candace the story which caught our eye in which which caught our eye in the intro of this astonishing thats actually police thats actually a story Police Forces to forces will promise to investigate crime front investigate every crime front page lead story. There it is, front i mean there it is, front page of the times. Basically police. Its basically police. Its basically police. Going to do the police are going to do their shock horror. Their job. Shock horror. So how on earth is this a story . They should be this story . They should be doing this anyway, right . Yeah. This this is a yeah. Well, this is this is a huge shift now. Police forces huge shift now. So Police Forces are will investigate are saying they will investigate what has up until now been called crime. So petty called low level crime. So petty theft like that, but theft and things like that, but actually have a huge impact on peoples lives and have also damaged peoples in the damaged peoples faith in the police theyre not police because theyre not investigating bike investigating things like bike crimes or peoples tools being stolen from their van and Police Forces are now saying, okay, well shift resources into that. So theyre going to be doing things like fewer Mental Health checks, though. People have said, okay, whats going to happen who in happen to people who are in mental crisis . Someone Mental Health crisis . Is someone going to them . So theyre going to help them . So theyre to with health to going work with Health Services that they Services Even more so that they can they can deal with and can they can deal with that and then can focus on on crime can they can deal with that and tisuella can focus on on crime can they can deal with that and tisuella braverman, on on crime can they can deal with that and tisuella braverman, whos crime can they can deal with that and tisuella braverman, whos a ime can they can deal with that and tisuella braverman, whos a big. Suella braverman, whos a big fan of the broken windows policy pioneered by Rudy Rudy Giuliani has really come out in support of this and said, you know, this is we need do because is what we need to do because its broken windows so is what we need to do because its investigate ndows so is what we need to do because its investigate and vs so is what we need to do because its investigate and you so is what we need to do because its investigate and you punish you investigate and you punish what are perceived to be small crimes. And then its believed to have an escalatory effect because , you know, what some because, you know, what some people if you allow people say is if you allow people say is if you allow people steal bikes or to people to steal bikes or to shoplift, become shoplift, they become emboldened. Yeah. And then they start committing bigger and bigger bigger crimes. Start committing bigger and big and bigger crimes. Start committing bigger and bigand it bigger crimes. Start committing bigger and big and it worked. Crimes. Start committing bigger and big and it worked. Itimes. Start committing bigger and bigand it worked. It really and it worked. It really worked in new york. Thats move on to one of your stories, kev. This this thing about ulez. On to one of your stories, kev. This this thing about ulez. So this this thing about ulez. So it was passed as lawful yesterday at the high court in london for city con. However, it did cost them uxbridge the by election so is this something you think keir starmer once you think that keir starmer once again u turn will change again captain u turn will change his position . Mean, i think it would have i mean, i think it would have been good for keir been quite good for keir starmer. Im sure he was secretly hoping the secretly hoping that the conservative that conservative councils that raised this action had won raised this legal action had won because solved because it would have solved a massive political headache for him and he, although he cant say it overtly, he wants sadiq khan not to go ahead with ulez because as you say, it costs them uxbridge. They can see it potentially costing them other seats in outer london. But its an absolute major cities as well. Is absolutely hes well. That is absolutely hes written about written a book about yeah pressure hes not hes not going to u turn on this at all and the last chance for it not to happen , i think, was this court case yesterday and it was ruled to be legal. Its going ahead at the legal. Its going ahead at the end of august and yeah, i mean , end of august and yeah, i mean, keir starmer can jump up and down and have secret behind the scenes talks sadiq khan all scenes talks with sadiq khan all he but gone ahead. He wants, but its gone ahead. But interesting. A massive but its interesting. A massive political headache for keir starmer win the next election. Has already won sadiq khan has already won his election. He is mayor. Well, yeah, but hes standing again. Well, thats true. He is. Well, thats true. But he is. Hes the most senior labour person in power, isnt he . Yeah. And thats i mean thats what being in power is all about, is making tough calls. And he says it was a difficult one. But youre right, he obviously instinctively built lives in this and thinks that it is the right thing to do. Now i guess what he would say is once its in place , people might get its in place, people might get used to it. People might actually realise that theyre not as impacted on it as they might have thought they were. Thats what theyll be hoping. And then come election time next yean and then come election time next year, issue. Year, its less of an issue. This makes it a lance the boil as it was, but if you if you were just to it, youre were just to cancel it, youre kicking can down the road kicking the can down the road really isnt youre just keeping it going a political debate. It going as a political debate. But its certainly a major headache keir starmer. Headache for keir starmer. Leave it there. We have to leave it there. Sadly can but i know sadly kevin, can this but i know in next hour were going to in the next hour were going to talk about net zero. Is it something that starmer should be pursuing said pursuing because tories said they would drop it and apparently its the labour apparently its given the labour party boost time. Party a polling boost next time. Lets look at that. Candice, thank you very much. Lets look at that. Candice, tha lots u very much. Lets look at that. Candice, tha lots u verto nuch. Lets look at that. Candice, tha lots u verto talk. Lets look at that. Candice, tha lots u verto talk about lots more to talk about then shall we bring you up to date then with whats going on today . Stephanie knows more about this. She joins us this morning. Good morning. And martin, good morning. And martin, good morning. Sparkly. Thank you good morning. Sparkly. Thank you very wake up. Thank you. Thank you. Its a bit early to be sparkly. I know. Well, im definitely not going to be wearing this to any red carpet soon because hollywood is on strike at the moment. Yeah, were now starting to writers. Now to see the writers. Were now starting see the starting to see the ramifications of the strike. I knew when these strikes had been announced was going to announced that it was going to have a knock effect. At the have a knock on effect. At the moment having the writers moment were having the Writers Guild the screen guild of america and the screen actors currently trying to actors guild currently trying to take on hollywood because take on hollywood bosses because they better pays, in they want better pays, as in every industry right now, there is that threat of i which union bosses such as amazon, netflix. Theyre not budging. So actors theyre not budging. So actors for the first time in 63 years, both of these unions have combined together and they said were on strike. So what does this mean . A lot of productions are on at the moment and it are on hold at the moment and it means actors are not doing publicity. So the emmys now, people just think its awards, its just actors turn up. But youve behind screens, youve got behind the screens, youve got behind the screens, youve are youve got writers who are writing scripts for the writing the scripts for the awards. Your writers are on awards. So your writers are on strike at the moment. And so now were getting into august emmys the next month. So i think the bosses right thing bosses are doing the right thing and that theyre to and realising that theyre to going to it. Going have to postpone it. Conversation is and the i conversation is absolutely fascinating. We saw harrison as an i version of Harrison Ford as an i version of great younger version in the new movie Julia Roberts yes, they are. Yeah. Yeah yeah. Yeah and so in other words. Sorry, sorry. Just explain. Well sorry. Just explain. Well stephanies probably better explaining it, but youve got an actress like Julia Roberts who is of a certain age. Yeah and i can allow her to star in a movie, but look, younger. And this is where the Big Conversation is happening, because actors are not having as much theres nothing much rights. Theres nothing legally place where you legally legal in place where you could use an ten years could use an actor ten years from now, and theres nothing in place amazon, apple or even place that amazon, apple or even netflix saying to these netflix are saying to these actors, going to pay you actors, were going to pay you extra your face in the extra if we use your face in the future. So this why actors future. So this is why actors are getting really scared and in terms of producers writers , terms of producers and writers, youre like things youre now getting like things like can be like chat party, which can be writing scripts. Netflix have just put an advertising up for an ai producer. You know, so theres a real threat at the moment because tom hanks said he quite likes the idea of an ai tom hanks acting long after hes passed away. But then theres a legal nightmare because actually they could be replaced ai versions could be replaced by ai versions of themselves. So an actual fact, this is a worthwhile strike. And so it is because at the end of day, i could see eventually take peoples jobs , eventually take peoples jobs, their livelihoods. You know, its all good the a listers, its all good for the a listers, the big stars. But what about the big stars. But what about the big stars. But what about the people lower down . The people who are lower down . The what kind of rights the change . What kind of rights do have . You know, the do they have . And, you know, the bosses are not giving guarantees that not going to take that al is not going to take your even if we do your job and that even if we do use you 20 years from now, what are your family youre going to get rights that. Get rights for that. Yeah, whatever scriptwriting yeah, whatever it it is really it is. Brilliant it is really brilliant at the moment. It hasnt been polished to a point where it can do a full movie, but im sure in the next 2 or 3 years. But it could it will be possible. Hard work. Hard work. It could, yeah. It could, yeah. The skeleton then a human the skeleton and then a human being can just sort of refine it. But i think every industry is at threat the moment. And, at threat at the moment. And, you know, people have based their on people their livelihood on this. People have stop it. Have gone to stop it. And if the writers are on strike at the moment, i completely understand why they would can would be on strike. But how can you the march of progress you stop the march of progress like this . Well, is where the big well, this is where the Big Conversation happening conversation is happening in hollywood. To hollywood. But whats going to happen happens when we happen now . What happens when we have all these red carpets . You cant be ai robots to cant be bringing ai robots to the carpets. Need humans there. Youve just seen tom hanks so youve just seen tom hanks in looking svelte and young. Suddenly he walks down the carpet to receive an award for it, 50 years old or do it, and hes 50 years old or do we saw we with abba voyage. We saw we saw with abba voyage. Yeah, a of its yeah, its a bunch of its been a success. You know, its been a success. Its made them millions of money. Conversation of money. But the conversation is amazon, netflix, all is how is amazon, netflix, all these big billion dollar industry havent industry companies, you havent got support the got the money to support the talent. That just goes talent. I think that just goes over head a bit. Over my head a bit. So youre going to be back with us a bit later on. Am. Yes, i am. yes, i am. Probably do this probably will do this conversation then, because its absolutely fascinating, isnt it . Much more to come, course. Much more to come, of course. And have the very latest and well have the very latest on those train strikes right on all those train strikes right now. To know what now. The itv chef , james martin the itv chef, james martin has now become the latest celebrity to be accused of Workplace Bullying and it could be much more commonplace than many think. Were asking today have you experienced bullying in the workplace and how did it affect you . Affect you . And with wildfires raging in europe, staycations are back on the cards for some. And we to go to and then we wanted to go to saint ives, but the trains were on strike. Yeah and thats thats holiday for thats a british holiday for you, isnt it . Common theme, ian in hatfield says fabulous says brighton is a fabulous location bars and cafes. And restaurants, bars and cafes. And of course, calder saying of course, simon calder saying earlier, be to earlier, you wont be able to get to brighton by train today, this weekend. All next weekend. Even im afraid the even if im afraid mick the ganh even if im afraid mick the grinch stealing summer after grinch is stealing summer after taking christmas. Yeah yeah. Sorry about that. Well be talking about that in a few moments. And bullying in the moments. And bullying in the workplace, its so interesting. People have got sort of different tags on it. Sometimes you think somebody is too much of a snowflake to complain of being bullied in the workplace. Other times you actually learn off a well, not a bullying boss, but you learn off a strong boss. Sean says. Its always been my experience that school bullies become workplace bullies , become workplace bullies, protected and admired by arrogant, pompous people who have an unhealthy need to be loved and constantly yearn for approval by others of their ilk. Yeah , and the point you made yeah, and the point you made earlier, adam in west sussex is saying this its impossible to point out incompetence now without repercussions. And thats what the dominic hearing was about, wasnt it . You know, he said, youre not doing your job gibraltar and job about about gibraltar and brexit. He ended up getting hounded of office. Sharon hounded out of office. Sharon says, for police says, i worked for a police force and encountered force and i encountered bullying, gaslighting and lies against me when worked there. Against me when i worked there. Worked there for over and id worked there for over 11 years. And id worked there for over 11 ypaul in sheffield says, im paul in sheffield says, im a Firm Believer in speak, as you wish to be spoken to. Well, yes , think ideal. , i think thats ideal. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. But yeah. But ive yeah. But ive told yeah. But ive told off yeah. But ive told off some of my former bosses for being verbally rude and it seems to create a kind of respect saying that there reason they are that there is a reason they are former bosses. Former bosses. A viewer who wishes to as a viewer who wishes to remain anonymous says having worked in the nhs now for over 20 years, ive experienced bullying throughout my career. I was bullied for simply doing my job well , and was bullied for simply doing my job well, and i think it was because i wasnt clinically, professionally or academically qualified. Yeah, and if you did qualified. Yeah, and if you did yourjob qualified. Yeah, and if you did your job well, qualified. Yeah, and if you did your job well , the job for which your job well, the job for which your job well, the job for which you were hired surely thats enough. Great point here from linda in devon, who says, if you make something against the law, then expect trouble. People play the system and the genuine cases and the causes get lost. And then only the lawyers win. You do hear about it happening in the nhs quite a lot, i suppose its because its such a big employer, steven says. Ive worked in the nhs for decades and i can tell you that most bullying has nothing to do with productivity or performance. And the bullies i came across were simply vile people with a power complex and they were often not very good at their own jobs. Oh yeah. And theres a lot of people talking about about staycations and the weather. And we heard a story earlier from llandudno, £22 for one portion of fish chips and mushy peas. That to me, anne, is eye watering. But whats whats the most price youve ever paid for a chip . Fish and chip suppen for a chip . Fish and chip supper. Theyre getting pricey. You cant get a wedge of cod now anywhere than a tenner. Anywhere for less than a tenner. Cod is becoming. Its no cod is becoming. Its a bit. Do remember chicken . No cod is becoming. Its a bit. Do usedzmember chicken . No cod is becoming. Its a bit. Do used to amber chicken . No cod is becoming. Its a bit. Do used to be er chicken . No cod is becoming. Its a bit. Do used to be er you en . No cod is becoming. Its a bit. Do used to be er you know, chicken used to be the you know, a cheap meal, didnt it . 20 odd years and suddenly its years ago. And suddenly its become horrendously expensive. And same thing is and now that same thing is happening fish, happening with white fish, particularly happening with white fish, particularcod. Yeah, cod. Yeah, cod. Get it. I yeah, cod. Get it. I mean, most you can get it. I mean, most bass now has had a hake or kind of cheaper impulses, but you cant beat a wedge of cod. And i think if youre on holiday, youve got to spoil yourself. Youve got to spoil yourself. Got to go for it. Yeah. Last time i cod and chips last time i had cod and chips was days ago and it was in was two days ago and it was in which airport was it anyway. I was waiting to come, waiting to come home. Montreal airport. And there was absolutely nothing. There was no mcdonalds. There there was no mcdonalds. There there was no burger king. There was it was a big airport. It should have had fast food and it didnt. But we did manage to find somewhere that the only sort of recognisable dish was fish. Chips. So we thought, fish. And chips. So we thought, this have this is crazy, but well have fish and the best fish fish and chips, the best fish and ive in years in and chips ive had in years in montreal, montreal, airport montreal, in montreal, airport surprise. Surprise. I expect second rate food and airport and in canada. Yeah. Fair play. Beautiful im getting hungry are very. Hungry now. Are you very. Mustnt talk so of food mustnt talk so much of food right to our top story this morning rail passengers are facing more disruptions as members of the rmt union are walking out once again today. Yeah, 14 Rail Companies will be affected and a large part of the rail network will see little or no service at all today. Services that do run today will finish much earlier than usual. Well, joining us now is former rmt assistant general secretary Steve Headley, who often joins us on the program to talk about train strikes. A very good you, steve. Has good morning to you, steve. Has there been any progress since you and i last spoke months ago . 7 no, i 7 no, i dont 7 no, i dont think there has. I dont think the theres been any further offers on the table and the conditions that theyre going to have to be changes in terms and conditions and loss of jobs are still demanded by the government through the company. So i dont see any prospect of a strike being settled yet. So, steve, what would get a breakthrough to help end this . Because were in a situation now where the trail, the Train Network is in a very different position post pandemic. There simply arent as many passengers returning to work paying for those expensive tickets. Those expensive season tickets. About 40 volume down. The government is still the biggest investor, 62 pumping money in. So its very , very heavily so its very, very heavily supported by the government already. How much money are you guys looking for and how much would that cost . Would that cost . Well, it wouldnt actually cost anything because the money that the government is pumping in is being quickly pumped back out to shareholders. Hundreds of out to shareholders. Hundreds of millions of pounds in fact, billions of pounds over the penod billions of pounds over the period of the last, last few years over over the pandemic penod years over over the pandemic period , which is ridiculous period, which is ridiculous because for a lot of time there was only a Skeleton Service running. But but that money still went in and it went out. The shareholders of these private companies, if that money was then taken and given to the workers who are actually running the job, the strike would be oven the job, the strike would be over. That would pay for that would pay entirely for the for the strike. So it wouldnt be it wouldnt be another massive amount money that would need amount of money that would need to would just be to go in. It would just be better money that was better use of the money that was in already. In there already. Mean, these endless strikes i mean, these endless strikes are down who are getting everybody down who wants able to use the wants to be able to use the trains. But wants to be able to use the trains. But from the wants to be able to use the trains. But from the people that trains. But from the people that youre the people youre speaking to, the people youre speaking to, the people you well, what is morale you know well, what is morale like amongst people who are like amongst the people who are actually on strike . I mean, how much longer can they go on strike . King well, much longer can they go on strike . King well , the thing is strike . King well, the thing is that there are prepared to go on. I mean, the strikes are, they say the way the strikes have been called is not i dont think its been its been an effective strategy. Have in a few days, a month or a few days, every couple of months is not being effective. But people are absolutely in candescent. Thats when theyve had a three year basically a three year pay freeze. Inflation is rampant and freeze. Inflation is rampant and that theyre being expected to take a real terms, pay cut and pay take a real terms, pay cut and pay for that real terms pay cut with their jobs and conditions. So theyre not going to give in. Theyre not going to accept anything thats on the table at the and until that, they the minute. And until that, they theyre on strike. What is it about the train drivers and the train unions . Thats different from the fact that police, for example, theyve accepted a pay deal, teachers have accepted a pay deal teachers have accepted a pay deal, fireworks workers have Civil Servants have , doctors Civil Servants have, doctors have. How much of this , steve, have. How much of this, steve, is actually about pay and how much is it is about politics. You know, old socialists like yourself wanting to cause maximum damage to the conservative government. , that just that that is oh, that just that that is really ridiculous. I mean, when really ridiculous. I mean, when people are offered when inflation over the past two years is top 20 and people are getting offered a 9 pay raise, its 11 nearly 12 real terms pay its 11 nearly 12 real terms pay cut. Do you really think pay cut. Do you really think people are going out over socialism when theyre when their pay and the amount of money that they can spend every week has gone down real terms by about you know, its just i about 20 . You know, its just i know you just dread these things up every and again, but up every now and again, but people dont go on strike for that. I wish they did. I really wish. Wish they did. There we go. So you want there be sort of 1970s style there to be sort of 1970s style strikes. Do you see . Yeah. Yeah. Well, if thats if thats a soundee well, if thats if thats a soundbite that you want to take out but thats why out of that. But thats not why thousands people go on thousands of people go on strike. I wish we had 80,000 socialists but you socialists in the rmt, but you dont. Well, if you want that, if you want that soundbite so dont. Well, if you want that, if y can ant that soundbite so dont. Well, if you want that, if y can putthat soundbite so dont. Well, if you want that, if y can put itat soundbite so dont. Well, if you want that, if y can put it in soundbite so dont. Well, if you want that, if y can put it in youribite so dont. Well, if you want that, if y can put it in your little so you can put it in your little bit of thing after your little your steve your little sound. Steve yeah, go ahead, steve. Im simply trying to ascertain youre trying youre trying to take some completely out of context. No, no. Ive explained it. Thats not why are on thats not why people are on strike. I said im not strike. Steve i said im not even employed there anymore. Yes, im socialist. Youre yes, im a socialist. Youre absolutely right. Yes, im a socialist. Youre absolutely right. Im a socialist. I wish we had 80,000 socialists in the rmt. But we dont. Im simply trying to ascertain steve know what it is about. No, youre trying. No, youre trying. Youre trying to. Youre trying be clever. Youve trying to be clever. And youve not got no, no, steve, im simply. Im simply simply. Im simply try|ng simply. Im simply trying to ascertain why police union. Ascertain why the police union. Weve got, weve got 85 yeah, weve got, weve got 85 unions, revolutionaries in the rmt who want to go out at every at possible reason at every possible reason to overthrow the government. On, up one. How go on, take up one. How about is little son taken is your little son being taken out context . Out of context . Steve . Im not trying get steve . Im not trying to get a bite. Im to get a sound bite. Im trying to get why rail unions think why the rail unions think theyre the other theyre different to the other ones have pay deals. No, well personally, as a socialist , no, well personally, as a socialist, youre absolutely right. As socialist , i right. As socialist, i think every as a socialist, i think every working person should have working class person should have a massive pay rise in line with inflation it wouldnt inflation because it wouldnt really an absolutely massive really be an absolutely massive pay really be an absolutely massive pay rise. Would keep pay rise. It would just keep pace with inflation. The reason other took ridiculous pay other unions took ridiculous pay deals, dont know. I think deals, i dont know. I think those leaderships of those unions think that unions are weak. I think that those members had they had a choice, would have probably voted were voted against that, were pressured it. Police, by pressured into it. Police, by the cant on strike. You the way, cant go on strike. You mentioned the police. I would have you have have thought you would have known police cant known that the police cant actually on strike. And what actually go on strike. And what theyre trying to bring in now with trying to with the government is trying to bnng with the government is trying to bring services that minimum bring in services that minimum services prevent a lot of services will prevent a lot of rail workers and a lot of Public Sector workers going on strike. So thats the reason that the police do go on strike. Theyre not allowed to go on strike. What say to the to what would you say to the to the notion that the rail service is an essential part of operating moving operating in britain and moving towards style system towards a police style system where the trains arent allowed to . To strike either . Well, thats not a ridiculous idea. I mean, if people do that, idea. I mean, if people do that, then workers will have to take things into their own hands and go out unofficially like they do in france. Thats what about the pragmatic argument, thats what about the pragmatic argument , though, pragmatic argument, though, simply that you can go on strike and the rmt has been striking for a long time now , but youre for a long time now, but youre just not going to get exactly what you want. So youve got to sit down and compromise, havent you . Well, theres the thing is this. Look, its not just about money. Its about thousands of jobs that are going to go. Its about the closure of every Ticket Office in britain, potentially. All these things potentially. All these things are on the table. Its about thousands of jobs going. And then the people left behind having to pick up the overtime to do the jobs that have gone because theyre going to have to do theyre going do more weekends. Theyre going to more night shifts. To have to do more night shifts. The balance is going the Work Life Balance is going to destroyed. And mean, to be destroyed. And so, i mean, its just about money. Its its not just about money. Its a more than money at stake. A lot more than money at stake. And i think thats whats making people that people so determined that theyre going. Theyre going to keep going. Look, well leave it well, look, well leave it there. Dont want to get into there. We dont want to get into nasty arguments. We really dont actually. You really want to change your presenter. You really want to change youyoure presenter. You really want to change youyoure presright. But that youre all right. But that quy youre all right. But that guy. Hey, you have to be guy. Hey, hey, you have to be able to take it. Steve you can give it. Youve got to be able to take it, mate. Look, i can take it, but its just too early in the morning for ridiculous questions, isnt it, really . For ridiculous questions, isnt it, ibuty . For ridiculous questions, isnt it, ibul youve got to sound bite. But youve got to sound bite. You can now say were all. No, no, no, were not. Sound bite types either. The sound bite types either. Were not. Look, main were really not. Look, the main thing is that were all finishing the moment. Finishing smiling at the moment. Lets capture moment lets just capture that moment and there. Thank you so and leave it there. Thank you so much joining us, steve much for joining us, steve hedley, often on the hedley, who often comes on the program. Puts a different hedley, who often comes on the progrof. Puts a different hedley, who often comes on the progrof view. Puts a different hedley, who often comes on the progrof view. And a different hedley, who often comes on the progrof view. And thatsarent hedley, who often comes on the progrof view. And thats what point of view. And thats what we like. Gb news despite what people think we want gb news, people think we want at gb news, we have a balanced we like to have a balanced argument and we in argument and we argue in a friendly manner and i really believe that. Think steve believe that. And i think steve has answer those questions has to answer those questions because it is a political strike. Ive got a lot of respect for him, but he also has to be cross examined. Thats what were here to do. Of course. Of course. Oh, absolutely. Of course. Even though. Yeah, okay. 714 shall move tell you shall we move on . I tell you what, is a really what, this is a really interesting subject. On interesting subject. Dining on your on. There some your own on. There are some people who simply never would couldnt bear the thought of it. I cant. You cant . No. Ijust i cant. You cant . No. I just find it like an admission that im a complete loser. I mean, i am anyway. But why is dining on your own to going a restaurant and dining on your own . Why would be an why would that be an admission youre a loser . Admission that youre a loser . Makes feel i dont it just makes me feel i dont mind drinking beer own, mind drinking beer on my own, reading a newspaper. Most people might i think most people might think you loser. I think that makes you a loser. I like drinking pint on own, like drinking a pint on my own, but drinking, meal on but drinking, eating a meal on my own. That formality. You think everyones looking you . Think everyones looking at you . It for me. It really just isnt for me. Mean, youre in job. Im i mean, youre in a job. Im in job where youre very often in a job where youre very often sent on a story or whatever we call it. And find yourself call it. And you find yourself staying overnight in a hotel, in a place you dont know. So youd rather room service and eat rather ring room service and eat on own room go on your own in your room than go to restaurant . To a restaurant . Also trudge across a roundabout and for roundabout and go for a mcdonalds or something soulless like that. Im into like that. Im just not into sitting on my sitting for down meals on my own. Really isnt me. Own. It just really isnt me. Its interesting, isnt it . So when you ring up a restaurant to make booking, have you ever to make a booking, have you ever asked a table one . And asked for a table for one . And what impression do they what sort of impression do they get . You . For some get . Do they give you . For some people, an absolute social people, its an absolute social taboo. But it is a scenario thats traction, thats been gaining traction, apparently for apparently more recently for more people. Thats the bad news thats right. The bad news comes, a michelin comes, however, as a michelin star has introduced star restaurant has introduced the spend that will see the minimum spend that will see solo diners pay double that to eat alone is not on. Yeah. Yeah. Is this even fair . Thats the big question. Big question. Well, should we ask restaurateur and Cookery School owner Giancarlo Caldesi . And owner Giancarlo Caldesi . And its lovely to see you. Thank you for joining its lovely to see you. Thank you forjoining us. You for joining us. Good morning. Good morning. Good morning. Good morning. Now i cant believe that some michelin starred restaurants are going to sort of charge for two, even though youre dining on your own. Yeah, i found that very appalling. Appalling. To be perfectly honest. I mean, i to listen to what you were saying, for some people , were saying, for some people, well, its such a nice thing to go to a restaurant where especially us, they come to us. Many, many people , theyre on many, many people, theyre on their own. And the restaurant should offer comfort or should offer good food, should offer what . That little love that we had always had in restaurants, restaurants, they are a Community Based really at the end of the day, you should never feel afraid that you go to eat on your own. Why youre out in business, youre doing something and sadly, you need to go to it and sadly, you need to go to it and you should have a nice, nice dinner somewhere and why charging for two people . This. This is greedy. Its. Its this is greedy. Its. Its noise. Its its not what i, what i would. I would like to see really at all. I know its awful isnt it . Our industry. Awful isnt it . Our industry. Absolutely. Our industry has gone through such a terrible, terrible time. I get it. Gone through such a terrible, terrible time. I get it. You terrible time. I get it. You know, ive been in ive been in when i was ten for 30 years. Now august is 30 years. And really , august is 30 years. And really, ineven august is 30 years. And really, i never, ever refused anybody unless theyve been really bad as people. They start arguing or theyre drunk. And i get it. Theyre drunk. And i get it. Also, we introduce all the restaurants, introduce if you book a table to us, you have to give us a deposit. I get that because people book a table. They did. They do not turn up and we have to make a living that i dont mind ed but now saying you come for one, pay for two. I think its stretching the boat far too, far. Really. Boat far too, far. Really. Can i ask you what you what you do if youve got somebody who says this, i want to book a table and ill be on my own. Do you give them a tiny little table near the entrance to the loos or not or not . I mean, what is the best place for a table . For one . Any table table there for two. You give a table for one. Just an example. Look thursday just an example. Look thursday night. Okay. We were fully night. Okay. We were fully booked. A gentleman called philip coles says on my phone actually said giancarlo , can i actually said giancarlo, can i come in . Ive got it for me. Just eating. No problem. He come, he ate, he drank. I even offered him a drink and this is not the only person i think if you come to my restaurant on your own. Actually my. My staff, we understand that. Anyway, this is fact. We should pay more is fact. We should pay more attention, make sure you have a little conversation. Not to make you feel embarrassed. Why should you . Why shouldnt you not have an opportunity or sitting at any restaurant in the world by yourself , have restaurant in the world by yourself, have some wonderful food and have a lovely, lovely day , lovely dinner or lunch . Day, lovely dinner or lunch . That should be. Thats what we are there for. Restaurateur all has been the heart and soul of a community really truly. Not just money. I want to play devils advocate here, giancarlo. So youve got youve got ten tables for two and you get ten single people phoning up and booking those tables. Youre losing ten those tables. Youre losing ten extra places. So dont you think that a restaurant has a right to think, well, hang on a minute, weve got weve got tables for two here. Id rather have them filled. Id rather take the full coin of table. Dont coin out of this table. Dont they right to turn single they have a right to turn single people away . Well , you people away . Well, you can play differently. You can say very simply, look, mate , you so many, simply, look, mate, you so many, so many. One put you and i put you together and you put people together, which ive done in the past. So you come to a restaurant and you have a date. You know, it doesnt matter. Mean quite serious. Mean quite serious. Thats how you should do. Come on. We must bring the soul that. That wonderful love and care to. To our diner is. Whats the point . What is the point . The point . What is the point . Otherwise you know, not everybody wants to go to a quick, fast restaurant. Sit down at one bite on your own in a corner, totally unread , corner, totally unread, organised and totally left on your own. Why its a Community Based. You know, ive been 30 years in one place. Im very proud. And all i saw and i do proud. And all i saw and i do sometimes i told people to leave my restaurant and i had people coming and they left restaurant without paying because theyre scummy people. Thats what they do. Its fine. So why you see, do. Its fine. So why you see, you take the good, the bad and the ugly. And if you come to my restaurant, im promise you, well, dont mean to be rude, but michael gove was embarrassed quite some ago on your own. I went. I said, hello, you know, did i like him . Did i dont . What difference does it make . I spoke to him. Hello. Hows it going . Nice to see you. Everything right . What would everything all right . What would you they oh, are you like . So they go. Oh, are you . Sir . Im and the. You . Sir . Im mr and im the. Oh, nice to see you, sir. Oh, well come. So whats the problem . What about you . I can see giancarlo. What about you . Because, i mean, obviously you travel a lot. Must end up sometimes lot. You must end up sometimes in a city. You know , overnight. In a city. You know, overnight. Stay. A good meal . Are stay. You want a good meal . Are you happy go a you quite happy to go into a restaurant on your own . Restaurant on your own . At the moment, as i speak , at the moment, as i speak, im in paris to collect my son to come back to england. Last night i went to i went to a bar downstairs, had a drink , had a downstairs, had a drink, had a chat with everybody around me. Im okay. I had one drink. Then im okay. I had one drink. Then i come back to bed and im okay. It wasnt difficult, but, you know, its really you. Know, its really you. Restaurants, honestly, bars and restaurants especially. I was in restaurants especially. I was in new york, actually , and i new york, actually, and i stopped at one restaurant and the gentleman sat down on my own and said, are you italian . Yes, im italian. Im from new york, im italian. Im from new york, im italian, new yorker. And we had a chat and we had a nice i had a chat and we had a nice i had the most wonderful, wonderful moment that he told me about the mafia and all the things. And i thought, wow , if things. And i thought, wow, if i was with the wife or if i was with somebody, i suppose you wouldnt have said it. So you should take an opportunity as a as diner accept it, embrace as a diner to accept it, embrace the restaurant and the restaurant should not. Absolutely not. Force one paper to. If i was a customer, i would boycott the place. I would never go, actually. Absolutely other people should say, no, youre not going to do that. Yeah, its one step too far, guys. Its one step too far. Why why . I cant really see. But martins got this genuinely. But martins got this feeling and i dont know where it comes from that that if hes sitting and dining alone, hes a loser. Yeah why . Oh well, as a matter of opinion , ive. Of opinion, ive. Im sorry to think that because that should not be ever the case on. Firstly ive, ive, ive been in business since 1986 and i see so many things and i get it. But i think the restaurant trade, we are stretching things a little bit too far and we must come back to what is essential. So restaurant what is essential. So restaurant life that you come in and say, good morning. Martin good morning. How are you, sir . Lets morning. How are you, sir . Lets say may i know your name . Okay. Oh oh, yeah. Oh, youre on today. Yes please sit. And you sit amongst other people. Not in the corner. Theres no corner. Doesnt exist. At the end of the doesnt exist. At the end of the day. You know, its. Its we day. You know, its. Its we need to go back to making people feel that the restaurant has a value to you. Yeah not to me. Well have to send martin to your restaurant. Well , your restaurant. Well, yeah, id love to do that, but. But actually, giancarlo, youve inspired me because im on my own tonight. And its interesting. Ive had and its interesting. Ive had a view to from somebody who reminds me of the old days of television reporting because and you must be of the same ilk as me because gary in evesham says you were talking about your travel guru, simon calder, being a one man band, sitting there on a one man band, sitting there on a french station with his laptop. There is look, he sent that picture. If youre listening on the radio, that simon calder sitting on a Railway Platform in the south of france laptop on his lap, hes just sitting down on a bench. And thats how he does his reporting. Well, gary says , reporting. Well, gary says, youll remember in the good old days , you would need a cameraman days, you would need a cameraman , an assistant cameraman, a lighting guy, an assistant lighting guy, an assistant lighting guy, an assistant lighting guy , a sound recordist, lighting guy, a sound recordist, and of course, the reporter. And then youd need a motorcycle to get the film back for editing how technology has changed. And its the same when i worked in magazines for many years, the cromwell lens, the mark ups, the runners , the mark ups, the runners, the transparencies, the negatives , transparencies, the negatives, the processing, all those all those jobs have now kind of gone in a click on a computer or been outmoded. So many thats outmoded. So in many ways thats great what hes doing. Lets great what hes doing. But lets lets all people lets think about all the people that that. That dont have jobs in that. Anyway. That dont have jobs in that. Howyay. You watching us this how are you watching us this morning are you morning and where are you watching . Are you still morning and where are you wa bed1g . Are you still morning and where are you wa bed because . Are you still morning and where are you wa bed because you are you still morning and where are you wa bed because you actuallystill morning and where are you wabed because you actually just in bed because you actually just cant out of bed cant face getting out of bed this a new study this morning . Well, a new study has found isometric has found that isometric exercises never exercises and ive never understood they are. Understood what they are. Apparently theyre than apparently theyre better than other exercises for other physical exercises for hypertension, is a big hypertension, which is a big problem nowadays. It might come to your and it might come to your surprise , but planks and wall surprise, but planks and wall sits help lower your sits at home can help lower your Blood Pressure without the usual hassle going gym. Hassle of going to the gym. Well, us now the well, joining us now in the studio fitness exercise studio is fitness and exercise guru. Got gurus this guru. Weve got a few gurus this morning. This is josh saltzman. And its lovely to see you again. Its nice see you. Again. Its nice to see you. Always bright and perky always look so bright and perky at time in the well. At this time in the well. Its your makeup. Its your makeup. Well because when people well know because when i bed, i was horrible. But after a little but now, after a little makeup, i look with all the poor people at home havent got people at home who havent got a makeup standby Makeup Artist on standby next to the bed. Can we pick ourselves up how can we pick ourselves up at the morning and at this time in the morning and what this isometric business . What is this isometric business . Well, i think, first of all, its very important you see its very important when you see something news that something on apple news that its of the solution. Its its part of the solution. Its not all the solution. And while the planks and the isometric exercises like this or holding a squat against a wall like the old exercises people used to do for their skiing, some of those old schools, the best school , old schools, the best school, however, it goes beyond that. And if you want to lower your hypertension or lower your Blood Pressure, it starts in the mind. And we dont need to go to modern science and statistics. Lets go back to the stoics. Lets go back to the stoics. Lets go back to the buddha. Lets go back to the buddha. Nothing proceeds. The mind. And when you free your mind, your Blood Pressure drops and your as we say in yiddish, your tuchus follows. So the truth of the matter is, unless you address your mind , your nutrition and your mind, your nutrition and your mind, your nutrition and your sleep, the exercise doesnt mean anything. Many people will do exercise and theyll see those exercises. Theyll go, hey, im going to do some wall squats , im going some squats, im going to do some planks. Thats going to lower my hypertension. Hypertension hypertension. Hypertension is very because very interesting because hypertension is in the special forces, for instance , sometimes forces, for instance, sometimes doesnt exist for instance, ive worked with people as a Fitness Instructor for with guys that are very high up in like a navy seal type of thing , and they can seal type of thing, and they can have no sleep for three days and all of a sudden they go, action, take your Blood Pressure. Blood pressure is normal because theyve done enough discipline and theyve done enough mind work that their Blood Pressure goes up while the same time the person behind desk in person thats behind the desk in the bank or behind the wheel of a car in central london, their Blood Pressure is flying sky high. Mind over matter. Mind over matter. Its mind over matter. But as they say , its very easy to give they say, its very easy to give people a couple of exercises and see this is the solution. Its see this is the solution. Its a lifestyle change and being a stoic believer or its persist and resist. You have to practise over and over again daily disciplines before you turn on the news. And if your narrative is life is awful, the news. And if your narrative is life is awful , the world is is life is awful, the world is out to get me now. Theres Global Warming now were going to burn up now weve got economic problems and while we have some leaders that can lead us in the right direction , we us in the right direction, we look at our leaders and were thinking their leaders are in the wrong direction. Now, look, were talking to loads probably loads of people who probably still in or theyre just still in bed or theyre just beginning over cup beginning to wake up over a cup of Something Like that. Its 735 in the morning. Is there something you can do now in your brain that will start this youre talking about . Yes. Yes. First of all, what i would say is this. You have to accept where youre at. And its like its called in stoicism. The dichotomy of control or control, what you can and dont try to control what you cant. Yeah, its a serenity prayer. So if you get up in the morning, you say, okay, i have these things to do. Well you better get your body and your your mind and your body and your your mind and your body together you body together first before you try else together try to get anybody else together on plane. Your oxygen on the plane. Put your oxygen mask first before you put it mask on first before you put it on child. So yes, there is on your child. So yes, there is daily disciplines working on your calves your wrists, working your calves , getting your stretched , getting your body stretched out, making sure that youre drinking enough water, youre making sure that youre not overeat thing, not youre eating the wrong foods , sugars and the wrong foods, sugars and everything else. Because if youre gut isnt right, youre anxiety goes up. Should you start the day with a glass of water . I say you should start the day with a glass of water. But you should practise different forms i intermit different forms like i intermit fast so i dont eat first thing in the morning because i need my digestion to flow. People that are people dont like to talk about this, if youre about this, but if youre constipated all day long, thats going to increase your anxiety, which is going to increase your hypertension. Yeah so your gut is your second brain. You know, people say, i get a gut feeling about this. Yeah, its true. I feel it. My gut in my narrative, not everybodys narrative. It may audiences narrative may be the audiences narrative as. If you override your as well. If you override your gut feelings because your brain tries to tell your gut things are okay and theyre not okay. Whether the relationships not right, whether your business relationship is not right, whether children are not whether your children are not right, whatever it is , you will right, whatever it is, you will suffer for that. Suffer for that. Okay. So if everybody is thinking, right, what ive got to do is sort my brain first, thats fine. You can dont turn off yet. Its all im saying. If you want to or something, then to meditate or something, then the next step can you show us the next step is can you show us a of things that youre a few of the things that youre talking the physical talking about, the physical things, instance. Show with w let me show with martin right here over there. Here before i go over there. Martin you stand up. Yeah. Okay so when they call, get grip. So when they call, get a grip. Did you know youre a little taller he oh, god. Taller than he is . Oh, my god. Never him to stand up. Never ask him to stand up. Never ask him to stand up. The truth of matter is, the truth of the matter is, folks, people that have a better grip, they proved it in swedish surveys of thousands of people. Surveys of thousands of people. People that have a better grip live a healthier life. Why . Because theres your circulate right there, your forearms and your calves. As people get older, your calves arent older, if your calves arent good, theyre your bottom hearts youre have. If you youre going to have. If you have bodies and fat have skinny bodies and fat calves and fat feet, youre going have more problems going to have more problems with your health. So if you face me like this. Martin, overhand grip, your grip, this towel. Yep. Open your hands little wider. Yeah. And hands a little wider. Yeah. And put close to put your elbows close to your body youre body. Yep. Like this. Youre like like this. Like this. Like this. Like this. Like this. Like im random motorbike. Like im random motorbike. Keep them up thats it . Yeah keep them up like im going to try like this. Now im going to try to pull youre going to to pull down. Youre going to now. Was going say look at now. I was going to say look at me. Look over me. Okay, so me. But look over me. Okay, so now it there. And now hold it there. Yeah. And now ten toughest two ten is the toughest an and two is nothing. Want your wrist is nothing. So i want your wrist to go and down. Now just move to go up and down. Now just move your youre doing. Your wrist like youre doing. No, no, no, no. Your wrist. Just your no, no close your wrist. No, no elbows close to body. Im rubbing. To your body. Like im rubbing. Yeah, hold yeah, youre rubbing. But hold it higher hold it up it up higher now. Hold it up higher. Doing that. Keep higher. Keep doing that. Keep doing you know doing that. Look at me. You know where wrists are . Yeah. Where your wrists are . Yeah. Come. You me come on, now. Now you tell me when you six out of ten. When are you six out of ten. Youre 60 out. Ill keep going for look, ill keep going for quite a while. Keep going, then. Still going. Well, this is fascinating. Its a wrong guy. Im so good. Elbows close to your body, but you can feel them getting hotter. Oh, definitely. Yeah. Yeah. Go underhand grip. Yeah , go underhand grip. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Now curl up and down. Just your wrist. No, no. Get your your wrist. No, no. Get your body straight, straight, straight, straight. Just your straight, straight. Just your wrist. Straight. Wrist. Get your body straight. Youre leaning toward me. Just your just wrist. Your wrist. Just your wrist. Youre sweating a little bit on your upper lip. I am, yes. Yeah. Your upper lip. I am, yes. Yeah. And and when i let go of this, thats good. Go faster. Go stronger. Come on. Think about somebody. Polly middleton. Now somebody. Polly middleton. Now let it go. Its hurting. Isnt that hurting . No do you feel burning . Do you feel like a little calmer . I feel great. Yeah. I feel great. Yeah. I feel really good. I feel really good. I feel really good. What do they say . Get a grip. Yeah, i have clients where i go what do they say . Get a grip. Yein. I have clients where i go what do they say . Get a grip. Ye in the ave clients where i go what do they say . Get a grip. Yein the morningts where i go what do they say . Get a grip. Ye in the morning and 1ere i go what do they say . Get a grip. Ye in the morning and theyve to in the morning and theyve got a lot ideas in their head got a lot of ideas in their head of business drama theatres and all a sudden i get them in all of a sudden i get them in with and they get a with a towel and. And they get a grip and they go, whooi i feel calmer now. Feel really i feel really good. I feel really good. So the point of it is getting a grip is keeping your forearms in now, all that in circulation. Now, all that circulation goes up in your upper the more you do this circulation goes up in your uyes. The more you do this circulation goes up in your uyes. The the more you do this circulation goes up in your uyes. The more more you do this circulation goes up in your uyes. The more youre you do this circulation goes up in your uyes. The more you do ou do this circulation goes up in your uyes. The more you do thisio this circulation goes up in your uyes. The more you do this , this circulation goes up in your uyes. The more you do this , the;. Yes. The more you do this, the more are a problem. More these are a problem. Move arms. Move the arms. Move the arms. Actually. Yeah actually. Yeah long story short, so. So the long story short, you that, martin, you you feel that, martin, do you feel there that feel anything . There is that sword there . No, thats all its no, thats all right. Its okay. No, thats all right. Its okayeah. About that . Thats yeah. How about that . Thats fine. See, hes a perfect fine. Yeah see, hes a perfect specimen. Specimen. Would be a very yeah, it would be a very different story on me, because ive as get older, ive noticed, as you get older, you your grip. You lose your grip. Buddy. Thank you. Nice job, buddy. Thank you. Cheers. You literally lose. You dont so dressed up dont have to get so dressed up for workout, though. For the next workout, though. Know, trying open you know, trying to open jars and things. Have to ask other people to i have to ask other people to do it. Why do you you get do it. Why do you when you get older, you lose that. Why do you lose your grip . And you lose your grip, and when you lose your grip, life difficult. Thats life gets more difficult. Thats the bottom if the point. When your bottom if you people ive worked you look at people ive worked with, that been with, people in that have been young, time, say, for young, a long time, say, for instance, theyre sedentary, instance, and theyre sedentary, theyre their theyre thin, but their calves are and their feet fat. Are fat and their feet are fat. Thats circulation. Those thats less circulation. Those are when are your bottom hearts. And when that is all we have. Weve run out of time right now, so youre going to have to come in again. Do you mind . Will you quhe come in again. Do you mind . Will you quite soon . In you do it quite soon . Come in and me in an hour. And give me back in an hour. Be here. Ill be here. Ill be here. Do us planks stuff, all do us planks and stuff, all those things that we were those other things that we were going do. Going to do. But weve learned. Im not sure weve learned. Sure what weve learned. Weve weve look after our weve learned to look after our wrists a grip. Weve learned to look after our wrizyeah. A grip. Weve learned to look after our wrizyeah. Superb a grip. Yeah. Superb yeah. Superb challenged. Havent you . Right in, guys. Ask your questions and say we want josh back on to explain a lot. Oh, josh will come back on, dont you worry. To move on but weve got to move on because were going to take a look saturdays, look through saturdays, newspapers. This. Quarter to eight. Welcome back. Youre watching. And listening to breakfast with anne and martin this morning. Yeah, lets take a look now. Whats in todays newspapers. Weve got kevin. Got kevin weve got kevin. Weve got Kevin Schofield and candice hallsworth. Sorry, a bit slow there. Lets go straight to you. Have a story that i was really keen to pick up last time. This is a poll boost starmer. This is boost for keir starmer. This is the backlash tories the backlash to the tories saying theyre going to drop some of their net zero policies. , i mean, ive been in yeah, i mean, ive been in this position before where a newspaper commissioned a poll. Yeah. And youre in the lap of the gods. You. Youve no idea whats to going come back. And whats to going come back. And whats come back is pretty much where for quite some where weve been for quite some time. Labour time. You know, its got labour on on 27. That gap on 44, tories on 27. That gap roughly 15, 20 has been in place for a long, long time. So what theyre trying to do is on, all right, try and make this new and cleverly the linking and quite cleverly the linking it to this week. Rishi sunak is it to this week. Rishi sunak is in the wake of the uxbridge byelection and has started to undoubtedly roll back a little bit on anything green. Green. They think its a vote loser. They think its a vote loser. And what they are saying is, well, actually labour have extended their lead. The lead has gone from 14 points to 17 points, same week that sunaks rolled ergo it shows that rolled back. Ergo it shows that the public dont agree with them doing that. Im not sure you can actually make that link, but i mean, theyre preaching to their own converted is although own converted is that although if other polling if you look at other polling that ive seen, the public is pretty much on with the pretty much on board with the net green net zero stuff and green policies according to the opinion polls. And so there may well be something in this that actually where the tories think there arent bit of a winner there arent a bit of a winner by rolling back on green by rolling back on the green stuff. Actually going stuff. Actually theyre going against of public opinion. Wonder how of that is i wonder how much of that is true bring you in i wonder how much of that is true candice, bring you in i wonder how much of that is true candice, because you in i wonder how much of that is true candice, because we in i wonder how much of that is true candice, because we saw here, candice, because we saw when voters were actually given the vote on this in the chance to vote on this in uxbndge the chance to vote on this in uxbridge with the ulez, it was it a binary referendum on it was a binary referendum on it. The tories avoided what it. And the tories avoided what should have been a heavy defeat. So is our polls the way to go . Or when people are given the chance . Because not just about the concept of saving the planet. Its £12. 50 a day every day its £10,000 for a new boiler. Go on boiler. If you cant go on holiday. When it drags into the personal cost and its tangible, its not so popular, is it . See, thats the key point. And think this is what so tony and i think this is what so tony blair out yesterday making blair came out yesterday making that saying that exact same point, saying that exact same point, saying that you cant ask ordinary people to bear the brunt of it. People to bear the brunt of it. Rather, what you have to do is well focus on technological innovation that will save for developing countries, will help them decarbonise. Theyre them decarbonise. So theyre sort of shifting their focus from levys green levies. People sort of paying extra for these things to innovation. But what is interesting about a lot of this stuff is, yes , people will this stuff is, yes, people will be opposed to ltns and ulez and things like that , but they like things like that, but they like clean water. So youll have a lot of consensus on that. So lot of consensus on that. So its sort of finding those points , right . So thats what points, right . So thats what the Political Parties have do. Deeply cynical that , its deeply cynical that, though, you know, though, isnt it . You know, analysing what people want to hear and then telling them what they hear. They want to hear. Government focus yeah. As government by focus group, youre like group, isnt it . Youre like youre led by the public youre being led by the public rather than leading them. And ive to quite a few ive spoken to quite a few politicians week the politicians this week on the back uxbridge result to back of the uxbridge result to see take from it. And see what they take from it. And theyre saying, well, actually, if these if youre going to impose these green got to green policies, youve got to take the public with and, take the public with you and, you but you listen to you know, but do you listen to the public or are you just completely blowing in the wind . Completely blowing in the wind . Because actually, because some people actually, you often times public you know, often times the public want their politicians to take a lead to lead. Yeah, but theres ways of taking the lead at the moment. It feels like its all stick and no carrot. No carrot. Well, you dont want it to be ideological so people ideological as well. So people who sort of fixated on a who are sort of fixated on a certain they see certain future that they see with policies, but theyre with green policies, but theyre not people with them, not bringing people with them, theyre themselves theyre not orienting themselves to actually want. To what voters actually want. And, things have and, you know, things have shifted. The cost of living is high now. Cant pile high right now. You cant pile too pressure, can we move too much pressure, can we move on too much pressure, can we move on to because this is something i everybody at home i know that everybody at home is going have a view on, on going to have a view on, on roasting a chicken on basically, its , isnt it . Its in the times, isnt it . Kevin the idea that the instructions we get on how to cook certain foods, yeah. So theres a heated debate over here between mean no youre right. Whenever you buy a chicken and the cooking instructions are always over an houn instructions are always over an hour, they sort of err on the side of caution. But what, 20 minutes per kilo plus an extra 20 minutes . Thats right. But what some chefs are saying is that youre basically burning it, too, chris. Youre drying it out now. Youre not going to get Food Poisoning from it because its thoroughly, its its cooked thoroughly, but its not going as moist and as not going to be as moist and as tasty should so some tasty as it should be. So some chefs what you need chefs are saying what you need to is actually it at a to do is actually cook it at a higher temperature for much shorter periods time , for shorter periods of time, for instance, minutes. But im instance, 35 minutes. But im not sure whether no 35 minutes doesnt sound enough. Doesnt sound enough. But but the best chicken i ever had was you cook it very hot for a short period of time, like 35 minutes, then leave the door closed and let it just let it cool down for like an hour. Then its beautiful. See, for me, its 200, about an hour and a half for a full Roast Chicken. A little bit of olive oil, juicy and delicious. You cover it all. No, no, you dont. So contentious issue. Its so contentious issue. Its so contentious issue. Lots to do with how you how your mum did it as well. Growing up was my mum did all the cooking and that was, you know, she cooked it for quite a while the tin foil it while but she the tin foil on it initially. Yeah. And if the last sort hour you the sort of half hour you take the tin foil off goes crisp up tin foil off it goes crisp up the skin. Yes so true because my husbands mum like cooks things. Mum like really cooks things. Shes so afraid of Food Poisoning and bacteria, whereas i with i like, like, especially with like i like it a like red meats, i like it a little red little bit different with red meat, little bit different with red meatmean, a lot of people eat i mean, a lot of people eat their red meat almost still mooing. Yeah, but. But chicken, were frightened the were all frightened of the salmonella other salmonella and any other bugs that might within so that might be within it. So weve be very wary of weve learned to be very wary of how bit too far how we are going a bit too far because nothing more. How we are going a bit too far becsee, nothing more. How we are going a bit too far becsee, these nothing more. How we are going a bit too far becsee, these chefs ing more. How we are going a bit too far becsee, these chefs are more. How we are going a bit too far becsee, these chefs are very. See, these chefs are very experienced and they know from the it whether its the look of it whether its safe, really, dont they . But the rest of us exactly. But the rest of us are, i dont know, not willing to take risk because what to take a risk because what heston instance, obviously. Join me later for the full details of what that means for you. Well , whatever the weather, i well, whatever the weather, i hope you have a great week end. But keep watching for the moment. Im anne diamond. And im Martin Daubney and this is breakfast on gb news as. So unbelievably , yet another. So unbelievably, yet another day of train strikes. Day of train strikes. And its very difficult at the moment because the kids have already broken up and they want to somewhere and do something to go somewhere and do something interesting. Going interesting. And its going to be difficult get be very, very difficult to get around today. Is. So he is. so he is. Yeah. Well, youll want to know whats working and what isnt. So earlier we spoke to our travel guru, simon calder. Hes that knows and hes the man that knows and hell explain how your journey could affected today. Could be affected today. Actually, things running actually, things are running pretty normally in lovely Northern Ireland. Beautiful scotland and wonderful wales because those Railway Companies are not affected by the National Strike. However, thousands upon thousands of trains are being cancelled today because of yet another strike by members of the rmt union in an extraordinarily long and bitter dispute over pay and working conditions. Long and bitter dispute over pay and working conditions. And that and working conditions. And to be fair, ive travelled a lot ever since the first strike day. Well, since the 1980s, which was 21st of june last year. Most strike days ive travelled by train and the services which are advertised tend to run pretty efficiently. Efficiently. Simon this has been going on for so long now. We know, mick, the grinch lynch tried to steal christmas. The grinch lynch tried to steal christmas. Now it seems hes trying to steal the summer. This has been on forever. Its has been going on forever. Its got the longest strike got to be the longest strike since i was a kid in the 1970s. What are they after and what do you its to take to you think its going to take to reach some kind of breakthrough . Well, summed it up well, youve summed it up beautifully martin yeah , beautifully there, martin yeah, i was all going to be i thought it was all going to be over christmas. But last over by christmas. But last christmas, be glad if its christmas, id be glad if its over by this coming christmas. But lets lets have a look at whats happening with the rmt and actually its the Train Drivers Union as well. The same thing which is they many in many cases havent had a rise for four years. They say we want a decent increase in pay and please give us that because us, obviously we worked all the way through covid and were expecting inflation to continue to be high. So we want that decent pay rise. The train operators who actually are basically just doing the governments bidding say, well , governments bidding say, well, you cant havent you seen what a disaster finances are in the Rail Industry since covid . And basically the bedrock of season ticket sales is people paying thousands of pounds every year to commute in from places like winchester and woking. Well, thats all gone and not all gone, but large parts of it has as people tend to work more flexibly. Therefore, we have flexibly. Therefore, we have really short of money and the only way you can get even a modest increase is if you agree to changes in working conditions. And the unions who are used to and good luck to them every time theres a so called modernisation or an efficiency, they would extract an extra few for that. They say no , you for that. They say no, you know, give us a decent pay rise and then we can talk about modernisation. Oh well, that was modernisation. Oh well, that was the legend. Simon calder. Not even a Freight Train could stop that guy today in the south of france for that fantastic update. Okay. Lets joined now by olivia utley. About utley. Lets talk about the politic of this. To simon politic of this. Spoke to simon there. When can we expect a breakthrough . We saw the independent pay body putting forward. It was accepted by the government in Teaching Police ing doctors. The fire service. Ing doctors. The fire service. The rail service, however, stand alone. When can we expect a breakthrough . People are getting so bored of this now. Well, unfortunately, it doesnt really sound like theres going to be a breakthrough any time soon. These have been these strikes have now been going on for year. The rmt was going on for a year. The rmt was offered a 5 pay rise for its members in february, and it refused even to put that offer to its members , as there is now to its members, as there is now quite interestingly, and perhaps this is a glimmer of hope for the government, now the government, theres now a rail rmt , rail brewing between the rmt, the biggest rail union and the psa, which is a smaller rail union, and the boss of the psa, mike pendle, is saying that actually the rmt is going too far with its walkouts because the problem is that tsa members are affected when rmt members walk out. They havent got the deal which they accepted back in february. They said, fine, were up for a 5 pay increase. But because the rmt were holding out, tsa members failed to get that. So perhaps the government will sort of succeed in driving a wedge between those two different unions. But at the moment, of course, the rmt is so much bigger and mick lynch holds such a lot of sway politically that it doesnt really feel that theres going to be Much Movement time soon. And of movement any time soon. And of course, to make matters worse, mark the transport mark harper, the transport secretary, hasnt actually met rmt Union Leaders since last november. I think thats ridiculous, isnt it . Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, there have been the background to this is obviously there were so many months of strikes beforehand, he was meeting them regularly, but there just seemed be so there just seemed to be so little ground. It does Little Common ground. It does feel a little bit as though hes given up. You can sort see given up. You can sort of see where hes coming from, but as you it does seem a bit you say, it does seem a bit ridiculous i mean. Ridiculous given, i mean. Upset Steve Headley martin upset Steve Headley earlier, former vice earlier, the former rmt vice president. I think he was, wasnt saying, you know, wasnt he, by saying, you know, you just its like you want to take us back to 70s and you take us back to the 70s and you cant thinking hasnt the cant help thinking hasnt the union learned anything union actually learned anything because strike union actually learned anything becaits strike union actually learned anything becaits going strike union actually learned anything becaits going on strike union actually learned anything becaits going on and strike union actually learned anything becaits going on and on rike union actually learned anything becaits going on and on and on now its going on and on and on and on and on and on and on and history should teach them that you get gets them nowhere. Well, absolutely. And i think i think there is even perhaps more now than the 70s. There argument that 70s. There is an argument that this is just turkeys voting for christmas because obviously dunng christmas because obviously during era, the use of during the covid era, the use of the railways went down anyway. People found ways around using trains, people were driving, more people working from more people were working from home. More people were only using leisure. And using transport for leisure. And so a huge gap so obviously there is a huge gap in railways finances it in the railways finances and it does though unless some does feel as though unless some breakthrough reached quite breakthrough is reached quite soon, we might see whole soon, then we might see whole swathes of the railways having to offer far fewer to close or offer far fewer services, which people will find that they need so much. So that they dont need so much. So ill the to you that i that they dont need so much. So ill to the to you that i that they dont need so much. So ill to steve to you that i that they dont need so much. So ill to steve hadley, you that i that they dont need so much. So ill to steve hadley, and hat i that they dont need so much. So ill to steve hadley, and he i that they dont need so much. So ill to steve hadley, and he kind put to steve hadley, and he kind of it. Of lost it. But how much of this now is not really about pay . Its about pure politics. Its a power play. About inflicting the play. Its about inflicting the maximum the maximum damage on the conservative government to conservative government and to hell public. Well mick hell with the public. Well mick lynch very, very lynch is certainly a very, very politicised figure. Fact conversation and in fact the conversation has moved away a little bit from pay has moved away a little bit from pay conversations pay and towards conversations about working conditions, etcetera. The real sticking etcetera. So the real Sticking Point at the moment is this issue about closing the Ticket Offices now the government and train operators say, look , train operators both say, look, most people arent using Ticket Offices anymore. There are so many digital ways to buy your tickets. It is weve just got to move with the times and push ahead with this. But mick lynch is saying that this is just a thinly veiled excuse for more redundant offices. So it does feel a little bit like that in particular is a very , very just particular is a very, very just political issue , too. Its not political issue, too. Its not really so much about the pay. Its more about whether the Train Network can be moved into the 21st century or whether the unions are going to hold out. I think thats a really interesting question. Im sure everybody at home has got a view on that is, even though Ticket Offices arent used much as offices arent used as much as they to be, isnt it still they used to be, isnt it still worthwhile to try and have a human being behind counter at human being behind a counter at your local station . Well exactly. So you can very much see where the unions are coming from. Spoken to lots of from. Ive spoken to lots of people who are into their 70s and 80s, and so they just cant really travel because really travel anymore because they how train they dont know how to use train line any of the other apps. Line or any of the other apps. And just struggle the and they just struggle with the digital train. Its like youre being forced into the modern age, the into into the modern age, the digital rather than letting digital age, rather than letting it and does it really it go slowly and does it really cost much put one person cost that much to put one person in a Ticket Office in a in in a Ticket Office in a station . I dont know. No. Think most the public i think most of the public agree that, especially it agree with that, especially it impacts the infirm, impacts the elderly, the infirm, the disabled the most. I think a lot of people totally agree with that. What they dont agree with is the inability to work, is the inability to get to work, the go on holiday the inability to go on holiday is us on saturdays. Is hitting us on saturdays. Since targeting sporting events, eurovision song contests. If a minister wont sit down and with them, even if and talk with them, even if those frustrating and those talks are frustrating and get you nowhere, at least then you can say im. Im still trying to talk to them, but to not actually sit down to talk to them does seem stubborn. Them does seem very stubborn. Well, ive got a funny feeling. Well be sat here at christmas. I well be sat here at christmas. I know. Having the same conversation. Me. Call same conversation. Call me. Call me cynic. You reckon . Me a cynic. What do you reckon . That is really quite i think that is really quite likely. I cant see. Likely. I cant see. That terrible . Isnt that terrible . Isnt that terrible . Lynch mark harper mick lynch and mark harper dont be a meeting of minds. Oh, thats a very good way of putting it. Absolutely. Thank you so much, its lovely to much, olivia. Its lovely to talk you. Weve got of talk to you. Weve got lots of gb views is coming in about bullying. A couple . Bullying. Can i read a couple . Because just make steam because these just make steam come out of your ears. Daphne in portsmouth says the trouble with workplace particularly Workplace Bullying, particularly when its the boss, is that when its from the boss, is that its often very subtle. It happens frequently is done happens frequently and is done to you feel really to make you feel really uncomfortable. Yeah and jill and chelmsford says this i was bullied before i retired and i was not the only one. The retired and i was not the only one. The other people chose not to take a case forward, but i did. I had a lot of evidence. But the employer one and thats had a detrimental effect on my health for months. So the fight health for months. So the fight sometimes fight in itself sometimes the fight in itself and is the punishment aussie beth says its has been my unfortunate experience. Hi there aussie beth by the way, faithful viewer , its been way, faithful viewer, its been my unfortunate experience that bullies well because bullies do well because employers find find ways of promoting them up and out of their positions to get rid of their positions to get rid of the problem. The problem being toxic relationships in the workplace. Yes. Rather the workplace. Yes. Rather than the behaviour the individual. Behaviour of the individual. Well, yeah. Brian in echoes and brian in lincoln echoes a point made earlier, and point you made earlier, and i agree human agree with ann about Human Resource departments. Most of the bosses are buddies with hr managers, conversation managers, so any conversation that you have with hr is not confidential anyway. And andy, on the final yeah. And andy, on the final word on one says i was word on that one says i was bullied at work so badly that i ended up having a stroke like the person bullying me the the person bullying me was the hr manager. Hr manager. Well, there we go. Shame to hear that. Hope youre. I know there will. I know there will. There are good hr i know there are good hr managers come managers just havent come across you go. Now, across one. There you go. Now, gb news has learned that plans to house 2000 Asylum Seekers at the former dambusters air base in lincolnshire have now been delayed by at least a couple of months. Yeah, and it follows the news that the home office is working on contingency plans to set up dozens of marquees to deal with a suspected surge in small boat crossings in the weeks ahead. So, i mean, what are we meant to make of this . Is britain so full that people now have to sleep in tents or do you think thats probably the right way to go . This fulfil our duty of go . Does this fulfil our duty of care Asylum Seekers . Lets care to Asylum Seekers . Lets speak to immigration lawyer skylar mckeith. Good morning, skylar mckeith. Good morning, skylar. A lot of people , a lot skylar. A lot of people, a lot of people will think why not put them in tents . But it is very them in tents . But it is very odd that that seems to be well, yesterday, the day before, it seemed to be the only idea that had any legs and now its being put off. What what do you make of it . Where have we come to on this . So under the immigration act, the home secretary has a statutory obligation to provide destitute Asylum Seekers with accommodation and that asylum support is provided by the home office while the asylum claim is being considered. So this is the being considered. So this is the penod being considered. So this is the period while the individuals are having interviews with the home office or waiting for a decision on the asylum claim. But at the on the asylum claim. But at the same time the uk , they cant be same time the uk, they cant be expected to provide resources. They might not necessarily have and these individuals, they dont have to claim asylum here. They can claim asylum in another country that they pass through another safe country. And so if the uk doesnt have the money, they dont have the money, and we are dealing with an economic crisis at the moment. We are dealing with an economic crisis at the moment. And rishi crisis at the moment. And rishi himself did say that many Illegal Migrants start their journeys in safe country seas. So they travel through safe countries many times to get here. And so he did say as well that its unfair on those who come here legally and unfair on those who actually have genuine asylum claims. And skyler , on the front page and skyler, on the front page of the express this morning, i dont know if you can see that, but theres a row over the garrison at catterick. This is garrison at catterick. This is in rishi sunaks constituency and the army chiefs there are actually saying no to Asylum Seekers on an army base barracks. And theyre saying the reason for that is that these people represent a danger and a threat to the army and to the local community. So now the army is stepping in and saying, not in our back yard. Our back yard. Yeah, i mean, there is push back there is a push back by various council levels where they are trying to implement this. So i mean, we will see ultimately what happens. But the prime minister, he identified ending the use of hotels as one of the five steps of his government was going to take to address the illegal migration. He said its unfair and appalling that were spending the kind of money that we are so a minimum 5. 5 million a day on hotels to house Asylum Seekers. Hotels to house Asylum Seekers. So he is the government is looking for alternative options. He he confirmed that asylum dispersal arrangements would be reformed and he has now announced that the what the reforms are going to be and there is push back on what those are. Are. I mean, much of the heat would be taken out of this dreadful situation if we had any confidence that the people who are coming in, whether they have to live in tents for a while or not, are being processed more quickly, is there any evidence that we are doing that . Were actually getting through that process more quickly . Process more quickly . No. So the time frame, it takes a long time to process these asylum claims and the Asylum Seekers , they cannot work Asylum Seekers, they cannot work for the first 12 months of their claims. So theyre theyre being claims. So theyre theyre being housed in these hotel halls or soon to be other locations. And soon to be other locations. And theyre not able to work. Theyre being handed money to live on and this this is its causing an issue. I mean , its causing an issue. I mean, its skylar , can i just interrupt you there . Why why is it taking so to long process these people . Long process these people . So there are not enough caseworkers to process these claims in a timely manner . And thats thats the main issue here. What sort of things have to be looked into you . I mean, youve got somebody standing in front of you who may well have come over the channel on a small boat , doesnt any paperwork boat, doesnt have any paperwork and only has their own story , and only has their own story, whether you believe it or not. What what then happens . So the what what then happens . So the home office has a duty to look into the claim. The issue is that they have been overwhelmed with the asylum claims. There have been an influx of people coming in to the point where there is now a major backlog of these applications and large amounts of the taxpayer money is being spent on housing them. As spent on housing them. As i mentioned, theyre not allowed to work for the 12 months. To work for the first 12 months. So clearly not sustainable. So its clearly not sustainable. And there is there is a need to change this. And there is the implementation of the illegal migration bill that recently received royal assent and that bill imposes a duty on the home secretary to make arrangements for the removal of a person from the uk if they entered the uk in breach of immigration laws. So if theyve travelled through a safe country, safe third country en route to the uk and if they require leave to enter or remain, but dont have it so people that fall within this scheme will be removed either to their home country where its deemed safe or a safe third country where their claim for asylum will be processed at. And the court recently ruled that the court recently ruled that the rwanda deportation plan is unlawful. So well see what happens with with that. Ultimately okay, skylar, how much of this thing is about optics . I mean, of course, scampton was the home of the legendary dambusters. Many people feel its a completely inappropriate place to even consider sending Asylum Seekers. Its almost sacred ground. And yesterday , gb sacred ground. And yesterday, gb news covid the touching story of a 98 year old d day veteran in dorset whos been evicted from his house and cant even get a Council House for up to 12 months. And he was a d day veteran. He was a d day veteran who landed on the beaches at normandy 98 years of age. Hes now being told he cant even leave the country to go on houday even leave the country to go on holiday will holiday because that will forfeit he spend forfeit the time he has to spend waiting for a house. And yet we can find £6 million a day for Illegal Immigrants coming over on small boats to be housed at the taxpayers expense. This is an outrage to many people now because its simply a question of priorities. And also in of priorities. And also in dorset, where that man was evicted, you can see on your screen the bibby stockholm barge, will house barge, which will house thousands of these people at full taxpayers expense. The full taxpayers expense. The British Public have every right to feel frustrated about the governments priorities on this, dont they . Dont they . Absolutely. This doesnt work. It really doesnt work. And. It really doesnt work. And thats why its not fair on people who are genuinely making asylum claims. There are far too many people making claims that are not necessarily genuine. And are not necessarily genuine. And this doesnt work. It really this doesnt work. It really doesnt work just very quickly, skylar, it seems to be going on at the moment is that these people are arriving and surely the onus should be on them to be able to prove to us that they are genuine refugees or Asylum Seekers or for whatever reason, the onus should be on them. Instead, it seems the onus is on us to prove their case for them and thats whats taking so long. Yeah, i mean, its supposed to be the onus is supposed to be on the individual coming in. So yeah, i mean that that is how its supposed to be. It is up to them to prove their case. And skyler, there was a daily mail expose this week which showed some some solicitors coach being specifically coaching Asylum Seekers in what to say what story they should do. How does that make you feel as a member of this community when you see such malpractice thats happening in britain . Thats happening in britain . Yeah, i mean, i cant comment too much on on those people. Its certainly not what solicitors should be doing. We solicitors should be doing. We are regulated by the Solicitors Regulation Authority and its completely against all of our principles to be conducting oneself like that. So yeah, i completely disagree with with that. Completely disagree with with that. Absolutely it does, it that. Absolutely it does, it does get people riled up doesnt it. Including us actually, because there just seems to be no answer to it except that we just throw more money at it. Anyway, skylar, thank very anyway, skylar, thank you very much joining us this much indeed for joining us this morning everybody morning. So i had a fish fritter that was two large slices of potato with the scraps of fish cut off the main fish sandwiched in the middle dipped in batter and deep fried. They were really nice and affordable. Plus they used the pieces of fish that would have been in of no use in any other way. So no waste. Do you know that sounds really nice. Maybe not terribly healthy, but lovely. It sounds fantastic. Healthy, but lovely. Fish unds fantastic. Healthy, but lovely. Fish fritter. 1ntastic. Fish fritter. Fish fritter. Its just not for yeah. For me. Yeah. Of people say it is a lot of people say it is lonely, but they do it. As richard in West Chiltington says, crew , i have dined says, as air crew, i have dined all over the world on my own. Ive never had a problem ever striking conversation with striking up a conversation with another another table. Another person on another table. Lovely story and theres a lovely story here joanne darlington. Here from joanne in darlington. Thanks in. Its thanks for sending this in. Its lovely. 11 years lovely. I was widowed 11 years ago first the idea was ago and at first the idea was scary, eating alone. I missed the half me that has gone the half of me that has gone now. Used to eating now. Ive got used to eating alone, cinema alone and even houday alone, cinema alone and even holiday alone. I really do enjoy it now. Joanne, thats a wonderful story. Thanks for sending and of sending it in and a lot of people are saying, dont people are saying, why dont restaurants table that restaurants have a table that could shared by anyone . Could be shared by anyone . If want to dine alone, so if you want to dine alone, you can be alone if you want. Or you can be alone if you want. Or you could choose to sit on a bigger table where there might be people. Yeah. Then you be other people. Yeah. Then you can up an easy conversation. Thats what mike and east sussex precisely that sussex precisely says that why dont introduce sussex precisely says that why dont tables introduce sussex precisely says that why dont tables sointroduce sussex precisely says that why dont tables so people e sussex precisely says that why dont tables so people can sharing tables so people can choose with and choose to sit with others and enjoy meeting talking . See, enjoy meeting and talking . See, to thats nightmare. To me, thats a nightmare. I really the idea. Here really not like the idea. Here you heres a random stranger you go. Heres a random stranger chat. Its like it has to be your choice you walk in, can choice when you walk in, you can either little table on either have a little table on your or you could go to your own or you could go to a bigger table. Be legging it at that point. Aidan magee has joined us. Hell have a view. Yeah, i do dine alone 2 or 3 times a week. Yeah i do. Yeah. Yeah. You ive been used it for a while. But used to it for. For a while. But because in your job you get sent places. Yeah, i do. And yeah, absolutely. I ive the absolutely. I mean, ive the person who messaged in minute absolutely. I mean, ive the persdining messaged in minute absolutely. I mean, ive the persdining allessaged in minute absolutely. I mean, ive the persdining all over ed in minute absolutely. I mean, ive the persdining all over then minute absolutely. I mean, ive the persdining all over the world. 1ute ago dining all over the world. Ive i was i remember ive dined in. I was i remember being restaurant in south being in a restaurant in south africa my own. Kelly walks in africa on my own. Kelly walks in with his with his entourage. Yeah, that was a bit of a strange experience. But its funny. Wouldnt go on holiday funny. I wouldnt go on holiday on though. Know people on my own, though. I know people who yes. They it, who do. Yes. And they love it, but just cant. I i might do but i just cant. I i might do it some stage, but i like it at some stage, but i like talking. People around talking. I like people around me. Little bit me. Thats a little bit different. You mean, but for dinner and things like that, i often bring my laptop. Do a bit often bring my laptop. Do a bit of work well. Well, some of work as well. Well, some bills its the invention bills to me its the invention of the mobile of the laptop or the mobile phone made it much easier to phone has made it much easier to dine because you set up dine alone because you set up your often taken my laptop your ive often taken my laptop and or you set and watched something or you set up your mobile phone and youve got that a prop yeah, got that as a prop then. Yeah, i guess prop. Its guess its no safety prop. Its no different to sitting on the train your own. It. I mean train on your own. Is it. I mean you a sandwich and you might have a sandwich and your everything. You might have a sandwich and your true. Everything. Thats true. Because training is well no, because training is a necessity. Im eating. Not a necessity. Im eating. Im not a necessity. Im eating. Im not a loser. So. Yeah, youre right. But its not for me. Maybe but its just not for me. Maybe im. Maybe wheel. Im. Maybe im the wheel. But look, no. Me just brenda said no. Let me just say brenda said. She said brenda said no. Let me just say first brenda said. She said brenda said no. Let me just say first time1da said. She said brenda said no. Let me just say first time iia said. She said brenda said no. Let me just say first time i dined. She said brenda said no. Let me just say first time i dined alone, aid the first time i dined alone, i think i was probably the only one who appreciated the wonderful tiling on the i wonderful tiling on the floor. I was to look up was just too afraid to look up brenda. Fair enough. She brenda. Yeah fair enough. She says book her. Says she takes a book with her. Now, prop. Good. Now, thats another prop. Good. Talk about anyway, lets talk about sport. Talking sport. Sport. Well be talking sport. Yeah. Smell wonderful. As yeah. You smell wonderful. As even yeah. You smell wonderful. As ever. Finest, most fragrant ever. The finest, most fragrant person talk person on television. Lets talk about no about the cricket. Theres no denying we were robbed denying we were. We were robbed by at old trafford, by the weather at old trafford, and like its and now it looks like its turned bit of back to turned into a bit of a back to the 1980s. Jeffrey boycott pedestrian play from the pedestrian boring play from the boring, boring aussies. Yeah thats unlike the australia actually i mean Michael Vaughan thats unlike the australia actuaformerean Michael Vaughan thats unlike the australia actuaformerean michtest aughan , the former england test captain who led england to the ashes victory in 2005 after 18 years. He said hed seen he said that hed never seen an australia side play with such fear. And is side that fear. And this is a side that could this test. They could could win this test. They could win the series. Well, they could. Could a draw, but could. It could be a draw, but they theyre going to they could. Theyre going to retain obviously retain the urn. Obviously but they could win they could actually win the series 3 to 1. And series outright by 3 to 1. And yet playing very of yet theyre playing very sort of slow cricket. Very slow rate cricket. Its very defensive and its very kind of maybe doing what defensive and its very kind of maybe doing. Doing what defensive and its very kind of maybe doing. Theydoing what defensive and its very kind of maybe doing. They want what defensive and its very kind of maybe doing. They want nget theyre doing. They want to get out now, probably out of here now, probably theyve been here for several weeks. Taken a weeks. Theyve taken a bit of a bashing over certain certain tests. Criticised bashing over certain certain teswell criticised bashing over certain certain teswell for criticised bashing over certain certain teswell for some criticised bashing over certain certain teswell for some their sed as well for some of their sportsmanship. Want sportsmanship. Maybe they want to the way the way to get home. And the way the way of it is just just by of doing it is just just by literally grinding out. But literally grinding it out. But steve hit 71 yesterday. Literally grinding it out. But stev controver it 71 yesterday. Literally grinding it out. But stev controver oversee terday. Literally grinding it out. But stev controver oversee yesterday the controver oversee yesterday involving him because we saw that with england the involving him because we saw that week, ith england the involving him because we saw that week, didntjland the involving him because we saw that week, didnt we,d the involving him because we saw that week, didnt we, where the other week, didnt we, where the wicket. Thats with wicket. Thats right with bairstow reverse bairstow the same in reverse happened a little happened yesterday was a little bit with the with happened yesterday was a little bit stumps with the with happened yesterday was a little bit stumps steve with the with happened yesterday was a little bit stumps steve smithe with happened yesterday was a little bit stumps steve smith walks the stumps steve smith walks away wasnt away he was given he wasnt given not out or hes given. Not out. No on. He was out. Sorry. No hang on. He was given, he was given out. He was on bit on 71. A little bit controversial, but as much controversial, but not as much of of it because it of a fuss made of it because it was england. Theres a bit of calm maybe theres a bit of calm over there, to fair. I mean, over there, to be fair. I mean, possibly aussies like over there, to be fair. I mean, pcopen, aussies like over there, to be fair. I mean, pcopen, but aussies like over there, to be fair. I mean, pcopen, but theyve; like over there, to be fair. I mean, pcopen, but theyve done like over there, to be fair. I mean, pcopen, but theyve done itike over there, to be fair. I mean, pcopen, but theyve done it to. It open, but theyve done it to. No, of course. Of course theyve done it to. But its not. Its also not as decisive now well because know now as well because we know that australia are keeping, theyre keeping its keeping the urn. This is its still interesting. I still think england dont england want to avoid that hasnt avoid defeat because that hasnt happened so happened since 2001 at home. So you want keep that record you want to keep that record going, not the as going, but its not the same as going, but its not the same as going it, for winning going for it, going for winning yet, its at the oval the yet, and its at the oval at the moment. The oval. Yeah. Moment. Its at the oval. Yeah. This a fifth. Moment. Its at the oval. Yeah. Thi mick fifth. Moment. Its at the oval. Yeah. Thi mick jagger and we know mick jagger and we all know that hes just celebrated his 80th was at the 80th birthday. He was at the oval yesterday his 80th birthday. He was at the ovalbox yesterday his 80th birthday. He was at the ovalbox at yesterday his 80th birthday. He was at the ovalbox at the yesterday his 80th birthday. He was at the ovalbox at the oval. 1ay his 80th birthday. He was at the ovalbox at the oval. And his 80th birthday. He was at the ovalbox at the oval. And hes own box at the oval. And hes wasted apparently family wasted apparently his family have buy him have been trying to buy him a box at the oval years. The box at the oval for years. The waiting is so long theyve waiting list is so long theyve had luckily one had to wait. But luckily one came up in time for his 80th birthday. Fantastic he was birthday. Fantastic so he was pictured his son pictured there with his son watching the he loves watching the cricket. He loves his box. His own oval box. Hes. Hes a hes a man. Hes. Hes a massive cricket fan, he . Massive cricket fan, isnt he . You yeah. Just shows, isnt you have wait for years and years have to wait for years and years and if youre mick and years even if youre mick jagger though and years even if youre mick jaggusually though and years even if youre mick jaggusually usually though and years even if youre mick jaggusually usually lords ugh its usually its usually lords and the mcc where youre on a waiting list. People put their kids i mean, people put their kids down waiting list from down on the waiting list from the five. The age of five. Hes for some reason, hes particularly the oval. Particularly fond of the oval. Lets talk about okay, aiden, lets talk about the lionesses. The rampant at the lionesses. The rampant at the moment. Wouldnt rampant. The moment. Mean, wouldnt rampant. The moment. Mean, it wouldnt rampant. The moment. Mean, it wasrldnt rampant. The moment. Mean, it was aint rampant. The moment. Mean, it was a much rampant. The moment. Mean, it was a much improved. I mean, it was a much improved performance yesterday against denmark, goal. Denmark, a sixth minute goal. But just keeps but the injury list just keeps getting and longer. Keira but the injury list just keeps gettingsuffered and longer. Keira but the injury list just keeps gettingsuffered a d longer. Keira but the injury list just keeps gettingsuffered a knee ger. Keira but the injury list just keeps gettingsuffered a knee injuryeira walsh suffered a knee injury yesterday england have got yesterday and england have got so many anterior cruciate ligament injuries, acls that people ligament injuries, acls that peit le ligament injuries, acls that peit the physiology of a woman is it the physiology of a woman that predispose . Is female that predispose . Is the female players to more knee injuries than were seeing with in the mens game . Why is that . Well, theres sorts different theres all sorts of Different Reasons its about reasons for it. Its about usually the physiology. Reasons for it. Its about usu the the physiology. Reasons for it. Its about usu the of physiology. Reasons for it. Its about usu the of the ysiology. Reasons for it. Its about usu the of the body. Jy. Reasons for it. Its about usu the of the body. It its the shape of the body. It could the somebody runs. Could be the way somebody runs. But ignore the fact but you cannot ignore the fact that is times more that a woman is six times more likely suffer an acl, an likely to suffer an acl, an anterior cruciate ligament injury than in the mens game. And some some and there is some there is some investigation going on on about it in the term. But at the it in the long term. But at the moment, i mean, when you consider liam williams, Leah Williamson mead is williamson is out, beth mead is out. Ellen out. Fran kirby is out. Ellen white retired, white obviously retired, but not because but because of a knee injury, but thats another knee thats another, another knee injury there are injury yesterday. And there are key who are involved key players who are involved a year year ago, year ago, only a year ago, winning the won the euros. So if theyre and this theyre going to go and win this world cup down in australia, different there was different time zone. There was an between an eight week gap between the end season. Usl to end of the season. The usl to the of the world cup, the start of the world cup, which is long anyway which i think is too long anyway because a little bit of because you lose a little bit of sharpness. England are to sharpness. England are going to have the hard way. Now have to do it the hard way. Now theyre having theyre through having beaten denmark play against denmark and they play against china wouldnt say china on tuesday. I wouldnt say its rubber because you its a dead rubber because you dont want to game even dont want to lose a game even if qualified and does if youre qualified and it does affect you in next affect you. You play in the next round, but round, obviously. But nonetheless, mean, lauren nonetheless, i mean, lauren james announced herself yesterday six minutes. I think shes side shes got to be in the side going forward. You know, going forward. But you know, listen, england in the next round now, thats what round and for now, thats what theyve about, theyve got to worry about, notwithstanding injuries, notwithstanding the injuries, of course. Yeah. More transfer talk, course. Yeah. More transfer taliharry maguire. Whats going harry maguire. Whats going on with him . Been subject on with him . A been subject on with him . A £20 been subject on with him . A £20 millionen subject on with him . A £20 million bid subject on with him . A £20 million bid forsubject on with him . A £20 million bid for from t of a £20 million bid for from west this is a player who west ham. This is a player who cost £80 million back in 2019. Hes for england hes been playing for england pretty england pretty well for england in that time gareth southgate, time under gareth southgate, a stalwart, england side. And southgates england side. And he has form whatsoever has no form whatsoever at manchester hes a Manchester United. Hes not a first choice he was first choice there. He was subject loan bid yesterday subject of a loan bid yesterday by united. West ham by man united. So buy west ham man rejected that united man united rejected that united need money the need to get some money in the door theyre trying to door because theyre trying to bid for Sofiane Amrabat who plays italy and they cant do plays in italy and they cant do that unless they get some money plays in italy and they cant do th. Comings they get some money plays in italy and they cant do th. Coming the ay get some money plays in italy and they cant do th. Coming the other some money plays in italy and they cant do th. Coming the other way. E money plays in italy and they cant do th. Coming the other way. S0|oney in coming the other way. So i think united would be think man united would be looking around about £35 looking for around about £35 million. Ham of lowballed million. West ham of lowballed it the moment for 20. But he it at the moment for 20. But he needs to play if theres going it at the moment for 20. But he he be. To play if theres going it at the moment for 20. But he he be ao play if theres going it at the moment for 20. But he he be a euros if theres going it at the moment for 20. But he he be a euros next eres going it at the moment for 20. But he ne be a euros next summer. |g it at the moment for 20. But he he be a euros next summer. I to be a euros next summer. I dont think he can realistically expect to retain place unden e. Eml david moyes, of course, has a declan rice shaped hole. Hes got £100 million in the got to fill £100 million in the back pocket. Problem, man. When thats the problem, man. When everyone knows youve got a few quid suddenly the quid to spend, suddenly the price, up. Price, the price goes up. Exactly. Yeah. Yeah and got some and youve got some Manchester United beckham and youve got some mancibeckham. Ed Beckham David beckham. Beckham is in, yeah. David beckham is in, obviously in miami. Hes getting his hes got his own his own team. Hes got his own things going on there with lionel messi going there lionel messi going, going there and first and playing well in the first couple but he couple of games. But he was interviewed mirror this interviewed in the mirror this morning and hes very rare that you hear beckham you would hear David Beckham being critical of anything. Yes, thats some would thats true. Yeah. Some would say saying interesting. Say saying anything interesting. He now. He he cant really say that now. He was was an ambassador for my was he was an ambassador for my previous he actually saying they should and sell. Yeah should get on and sell. Yeah hes criticising the glazers. I mean there was was think hes criticising the glazers. I mwasthere was was think hes criticising the glazers. I mwasthere in|s was think hes criticising the glazers. I mwasthere in 2009 was think hes criticising the glazers. I mwasthere in 2009 he as think hes criticising the glazers. I mwasthere in 2009 he was think hes criticising the glazers. I mwasthere in 2009 he was pulik it was back in 2009 he was put or 2012. I think it was, he was pictured a and yellow pictured with a green and yellow scarf neck and that scarf around his neck and that was quite defiant of the glazers, never been glazers, but hed never been critical since critical of the glazers since then. Never then. Dont forget, he never worked. Never played. Worked. He never played. Going say, their i was to going say, their times overlapped two years. fi e was before he i think it was before he left. He left in zero three. The glazers bought the club in zero five, he basically five, but he basically said, look, and it. Its look, hurry up and sell it. Its not good the supporters. Not good for the supporters. Its up for sale for eight its been up for sale for eight months the problem, months now. The problem, i believe, the believe, anne, is that the glazer six siblings, glazer family, the six siblings, not theyre not all agreed. They wont they wont agree on anything they wont agree on anything they wont wont agree wont agree on. They wont agree on whether they return. When families own things. When families own things. Ive been there. Ive been there myself. Unfortunately of this is i wonder how much of this is him magnanimous i wonder how much of this is himfuture magnanimous i wonder how much of this is himfuture ofagnanimous i wonder how much of this is himfuture of theanimous i wonder how much of this is himfuture of the club,us i wonder how much of this is himfuture of the club, or is the future of the club, or is there a sort of more cynical motive get motive beckham wants to get involved in man u on a commercial level, as an ambassador, there could be a lot of united fall back and of wonga in united fall back and we went to one we know his morals went to one side in qatar. Yes so he wont he have a problem he wont have a problem with qataris could qataris buying out man u. Could he returning back to he see himself returning back to the an ambassador for the fold as an ambassador for the fold as an ambassador for the club . This summer since he 20 years this summer since he left manchester im left Manchester United . Im staggered years staggered that in that 20 years that intervening is that intervening period is not adding with adding any involvement with Manchester United. He never went back as player. Back there on loan as a player. He considered he was never considered for a coaching because he didnt coaching role because he didnt really coaching. Really want to do coaching. He hes obviously hes been hes had obviously hes been living in different of the living in different parts of the world. Living in world. Hes been living in london, living the london, hes been living in the states. Lived italy. States. Hes lived in italy. When on at inter. So when he was on loan at inter. So hes not really been around in the involved. The north west to get involved. But rule it out in but i wouldnt rule it out in future. Its such a big name. Hes so respected as well. And future. Its such a big name. Hes of respected as well. And future. Its such a big name. Hes of the pected as well. And future. Its such a big name. Hes of the reason as well. And future. Its such a big name. Hes of the reason forvell. And future. Its such a big name. Hes of the reason for that and future. Its such a big name. Hes of the reason for that is|d part of the reason for that is probably go probably because he doesnt go around things around saying silly things all the his counsel the time. He keeps his counsel often, but today hes actually or overnight hes been urging often, but today hes actually or oglazerst hes been urging often, but today hes actually or oglazerst h if thats the case, lets have whip around. Have a whip around. You popping in to see us . Are you popping in to see us . A on in the program. A bit later on in the program. Jolly eight. Jolly good. Thats eight. And there back pages, well there with the back pages, well be the of be looking at the rest of saturdays newspapers in just a couple moments. All, couple of moments. First of all, the weather. Welcome back at 843. Youre watching and listening to breakfast with anne and martin. This morning i was asking a bit earlier where youre watching us from. What are you doing at the moment . And tom says, and just moment . And tom says, and just to let you know, we get free travel on and trains. So travel on buses and trains. So we bus from our road to we get a bus from our road to the station, travel to southport for our newspaper, have a coffee and return. Yeah, a of information yeah, a lot of information there, im watching there, tim says. Im watching a melbourne under streaming melbourne down under streaming light to my laptop screen in my study , but in case i need to get study, but in case i need to get coffee, you both coffee, i have you both streaming tv in the streaming to the tv in the family also, so i dont family room also, so i dont miss a thing. Tim viewer of the day award. Can us anywhere, you can watch us anywhere, anytime really can. And its anytime you really can. And its nice be with kevin nice to be with you. Kevin schofield us and candice schofield is with us and candice hallsworth looking through the papers today. And lets get papers today. And lets get straight kevin , to the straight kevin, to the heartwarming story about twiglet, the puppy dachshund. Well, yeah, we like a happy ending, but poor little twiglet the miniature dachshund went through a pretty traumatic 24 hours. It was relatively brief, thankfully, but quite scary actually. So its owners home actually. So its owners home was broken into by a hammer wielding man specifically to steal this poor dog. And now , steal this poor dog. And now, fortunately, the family have cctv, so theyre able to give the footage to the police who put it online. It went viral because because you actually saw the man breaking into the kitchen chasing the dog around the kitchen to try and the dogs really fighting for its life. Yeah, absolutely. And so , as yeah, absolutely. And so, as i say, it went viral and fortunately, a very kind hearted person saw the dog for sale on facebook, bought it for £700 and gave it back to the owners. Wow. God wow. God so within 24 hours, little girl was back with its mum and dad didnt realise thats how they got it. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So it was up for sale. So i mean, obviously theres a big business specifically broke business here specifically broke in, were saying, probably in, as we were saying, probably to order and its interesting. Valuable species. Valuable species. Just looking at some data here, its astonishing. Theres here, its astonishing. Theres been a 30 relative increase in dog theft compared to burglary since 2020, an all time high of 149 thefts annually. So thats 149 thefts annually. So thats 909. 4 thefts per 100,000. This is clearly a booming business, nicking 100. This is one that, you know, had a happy ending. But how many are are not, you know what i mean . And have been sold to unsuspecting people and leave another safe in your own home . No, you have to be so discerning. Do not buy dogs from random adverts. You need to know that seller. That its a reputable seller. I think you need licences for it to sell dogs , and i think it to sell dogs, and i think it should be illegal to advertise on yeah. On facebook. Yeah. Because sort of is that because this sort of dodgy dealers if like, know dodgy dealers, if you like, know your address and so they your home address and so they know where to come and get the dog . Whats happening . Know where to come and get the dog . Dont whats happening . Know where to come and get the dog . Dont know. s happening . Know where to come and get the dog . Dont know. I; happening . Know where to come and get the dog . Dont know. I think ening . Know where to come and get the dog . Dont know. I think yeah, . I dont know. I think yeah, maybe theyre like watching maybe theyre just like watching people theres people because i mean theres so much going on now, you know, especially low especially with all this low level crime, there must be people who know where the dogs are. People are. Theyre watching people walk exactly walk dogs. I dont know exactly how i mean, it how it works, but, i mean, it would my absolute worst would be my absolute Worst Nightmare that nightmare if Something Like that happened. Mean, my dog is happened. I mean, my dog is loved. Mean, be traumatised. No, absolutely. No, absolutely. As i say, happy yeah. So as i say, happy ending. But yeah, you think ending. But yeah, you just think it be lots of pet owners it must be lots of pet owners who doesnt end so well. Who it doesnt end so well. No. No. And whether person will and whether that person will ever his £700 back. Ever get his £700 back. A lovely actually but what a lovely actually what a lovely thing for them to have to do. Have thought to do. Really. Theyre remarkable, really. Theyre very, candice very, very fortunate. Candice story in the telegraph online stalkers are out of control. According to tv presenter laura whitmore. Yes. This is a story in the yes. This is a story in the telegraph. The former love island laura whitmore, island presenter laura whitmore, she said stalking on social she said that stalking on social media is becoming a real problem. And she being such a famous person , is really experienced person, is really experienced it. Said its not very it. But she said its not very well understood by the social media or police Media Companies or by the police. So when went to the police. So when she went to the police about said were about it, she said they were sort confused and they didnt about it, she said they were sort understand nd they didnt about it, she said they were sort understand wherey didnt about it, she said they were sort understand where shednt really understand where she was coming was coming from because she was talking like talking about things like blocking ip addresses. And i just dont think the education is quite there. But its interesting talks about interesting that she talks about her a Television Presenter interesting that she talks about her isoelevision presenter interesting that she talks about her so much n presenter interesting that she talks about her so much attention er getting so much attention because read things because ive also read things about mps say that they have to manage social media accounts, but get so much negativity but they get so much negativity. Me and can really get them. Me and it can really get them down full on abuse. And down like full on abuse. And i just wonder if maybe the social media need to have Media Companies need to have a better understanding of this and maybe have a department that deals with stalking behaviour. Deals with stalking behaviour. They should, well, of course they should, because rampant, isnt it . Yeah. Of in the realm of politics we hear a lot, dont we, particularly female we, about particularly female politicians bullied politicians being bullied out of the trade altogether. Absolutely. And know well absolutely. And you know , have to have security at , i have to have security at home. All that type of thing, which really you can understand why were getting so many mps now deciding to chuck it, especially young female mps. You know , and its a Public Service know, and its a Public Service. No one asks them to go and do it. They put themselves up for it. They put themselves up for it and they leave themselves open, especially nowadays through social media, to all sorts abuse. Sorts of vile abuse. But obviously then some obviously people then some horrible individuals take it to that next level and try and track them down and do them harm. And seen it with harm. And weve seen it with tragic well. Tragic consequences as well. Absolutely. Yeah , i mean absolutely. So, yeah, i mean thats the trouble now, is that mps clearly feel they have to have a social media platform. No choice. Theyve got no choice. Theyve got no choice. Yeah, its the only way yeah, yeah, its the only way they really can they can and they really can communicate their communicate with their constituents but, it constituents. Yeah but, but it lays them open to this, especially. Lets cheer especially. Lets cheer ourselves up. Yeah with the amazing royal cakes that were on show at the 104th sandringham royal flower show or something, was it . Yes , thats right. Yes, thats right. Yes, thats right. The sandringham flower show. Now this is a lady by the name of marshall of Jacqui Marshall who made a king charles pie. Now we need the picture. Let me hold that up. Let me hold that up. There it is. Look i dont know if you can see that. Know if you can see that. So the one on the left. Yeah just to be clear, is Prince Charles the ears are a bit of a well, i think they are a bit on the crown and the ears of the crown i can definitely see the resemblance. Yeah, well, yes. What did he think . Well he went saw them so. Went along and saw them so. There and yeah. So they were there and they both the royal they saw them both the royal couple camilla said, it couple and camilla said, it looks husband. Im looks just like my husband. Im not a compliment, not sure thats a compliment, really. But then and charles said looks like out said it looks like something out of and gromit. Said it looks like something out of yeah, and gromit. Said it looks like something out of yeah, anditromit. Said it looks like something out of yeah, andit does. I like yeah, well, it does. I like the puns. Of course. Weve got the puns. Of course. Weve got the crust. Weve got his the upper crust. Weve got his royal us. Royal pines us. Because it went down so and because it went down so well that one for the well, she made that one for the show. Shes now made one for show. She shes now made one for queen camilla, which is the other one would have a good sense of humour about it, i think. Well, like the idea well, i quite like the idea of like, biting one of King Charless pastry ears, just pulling one of his that pulling off one of his ears that could catch on. Not . Thats plenty. Why not . Thats plenty. Plenty noisy. Plenty of eating and noisy. Yeah, is mouth yeah, there really is mouth there in the telegraph, candace. There are Award Winning then there are Award Winning food writer has been talking about barbecues. So diana henry, she has yes. So diana henry, she has said lets spice up the sides a bit because in barbecues it tends to be all about the meat. But lets do something fun with the sides. And so she said stuff like, can make potato salad, like, you can make potato salad, which is so which everyone just thinks is so boring. Thinks she can make boring. She thinks she can make it more interesting. So was it more interesting. So she was saying adding things saying things, adding things like she like onions, pickles. And she also Chicken Stock to a also said Chicken Stock to add a bit flavour it. Yep, yep. Bit of flavour to it. Yep, yep. And you you can and she said, you know, you can also grill aubergines , onions, also grill aubergines, onions, peppers. Shes like , just be a peppers. Shes like, just be a bit more thoughtful about the sides. I bit more thoughtful about the sides. I mean, i know we dont have barbecue weather right now. I great. I mean, its just not great. Its going come. Its going to come. Im confident. Im confident. Hope so. Really, really im hope so. I really, really hope i love the sides. Hope so. But i love the sides. I obsess over the sides. And im a vegetarian. So thats i eat is the sides. Thats all i eat is the sides. So to be interesting. So they have to be interesting. You, what about you, kev . What about you, kev . I basically a because i basically want a tomahawk like a tomahawk steak and maybe like a solitary lettuce leaf. Um, well, got to see my um, well, ive got to see my wife makes fantastic potato wife makes a fantastic potato salad. She really does. I do salad. She really does. I do like and i like a like that. And i like a coleslaw. Yeah. No and being scottish, obviously, i like chips. Theres any oven chips. So if theres any oven chips. So if theres any oven chips around. Absolutely. Yeah, absolutely. Yeah, absolutely. Thats a winner for me. Thats a big winner for me. Thats a big winner for me. Talking of holiday as were talking of holiday as well. We talked about well. And we talked about centrica gas yesterday making enormous profits. Well, enormous profits. Well, apparently the airlines are doing well, too. Doing quite well, too. So, you know, despite yeah. So, you know, despite cost crisis, maybe in cost of living crisis, maybe in part because of it, people are willing to kind push the boat willing to kind of push the boat out. Know, things are so out. You know, things are so miserable at home. Obviously, the great and the weathers not great here and people to stretch people are willing to stretch themselves go holiday. And people are willing to stretch thealselves go holiday. And people are willing to stretch thea result, go holiday. And people are willing to stretch thea result, the 10 holiday. And people are willing to stretch thea result, the airlinesliday. And people are willing to stretch thea result, the airlines are 1. And as a result, the airlines are experiencing bumper bumper profits , which is a little bit profits, which is a little bit counter intuitive because you would think that that would be something that people would because, you know, times are tough. Kind of draw tough. They might kind of draw their horns a little bit and their horns in a little bit and not holiday. Not go on holiday. But you at the data, but if you look at the data, what i find fascinating about this is price flights this is the price of flights on average have gone up by 30. So what im wondering, candace, is flying going to become the preserve of the rich . Are we going back to pre packaged houday going back to pre packaged holiday mentality where the poorer people will have a staycation and pay more because youre fighting for the same place as in cornwall, devon Lake District , wherever you go. And district, wherever you go. And the rich people, they dont care. Keep paying 30 care. They just keep paying 30 premiums. Moving towards premiums. Are we moving towards being taxed . The net zero angle, the guilt trip of flying that wont affect the richest. Theyre still flying , but are theyre still flying, but are the poorer people going to be pnced the poorer people going to be priced the market . Priced out of the market . But this is what see, but this is what everyone you know, and the everyone says, you know, and the wealthy a private everyone says, you know, and the weyas1y a private everyone says, you know, and the weyas well a private everyone says, you know, and the weyas well without a private everyone says, you know, and the weyas well without thinking, ate jet as well without thinking, you had huge you know, weve had this huge emancipation people emancipation of ordinary people able travel and go on holiday able to travel and go on holiday and things that their and do things that their grandparents could only dream of. Know, this is this of. And you know, this is this is the trade that we sort of is the trade off that we sort of have balance. Know, we have to balance. You know, we want have a higher want people to have a higher standard than they had standard of living than they had in also focusing in the past while also focusing on decarbonising on things like decarbonising aviation. Think so far , aviation. But i think so far, its sort like, well, you its sort of like, well, you have to have austere life have to have a more austere life rather than thinking about, well, actually, you things well, actually, you know, things like really like holidays are really important and they important to people and they will prioritise it above pretty much at the moment. Much everything at the moment. Stopping people nothing is stopping people going airlines going on holiday. The airlines are chock a block, as you say, all the aircraft are full. All of the aircraft are full. The airports are busy. Yeah, if you can get to an airport because of the trains. But people are going on holiday. And i think they i think maybe since the pandemic, something we realised , really value realised we really, really value and having to do without and doing, having to do without holidays was awful. Holidays was awful. Yeah, think it was taken yeah, i think it was taken away from us. Unexpected. I away from us. So unexpected. I think people dont know think people you dont know whats so you think people you dont know whats as so you think people you dont know whats as well so you think people you dont know whats as well enjoy so you think people you dont know whats as well enjoy it so you think people you dont know whats as well enjoy it while you can. Yeah. Think that is definitely the case. You know, people just think when know people just think when you know that you dont that old thing, you dont realise until its realise what you have until its gone. Flying abroad, realise what you have until its gonyknow flying abroad, realise what you have until its gonyknow , flying abroad, realise what you have until its gonyknow , the flying abroad, realise what you have until its gonyknow , the feeling abroad, realise what you have until its gonyknow , the feeling of road, you know, the feeling of a foreign beach, you know, im holidaying in pembrokeshire this year i love year and also scotland. I love british holidays, but i just love beating sun on the love that beating sun on the back. But its becoming pricier. Yes. Back. But its becoming pricier. Yeyeah. Also you have yeah. But also you have guaranteed sunshine well. Guaranteed sunshine as well. When abroad. I mean, i when you go abroad. I mean, i love pembrokeshire. There love pembrokeshire. I was there two and we stayed on a two years ago and we stayed on a house on the beach. Its gorgeous and such a hidden gem. But the only thing is you cant guarantee the weather. Yes. A people yes. And i think a lot of people still want able to choose still want to be able to choose places get guaranteed places where you get guaranteed sunshine. Because you sunshine. Exactly. Because you just ache it. We need it. Just ache for it. We need it. Yeah, ive just been ive yeah, but ive just been ive just been looking i was looking earlier at next holiday and earlier at my next holiday and the price of the flight was as much as the yeah. Yeah. Much as the stay. Yeah. Yeah. And thats awful. And thats awful. Didnt used be that it didnt used to be that way. Right. There you way. No, thats right. There you go. Its plan your next go. Its time to plan your next holiday. I feel at the moment. But until then, i just say but until then, can i just say thank you very much for coming in you very much. In today . Thank you very much. We get through nearly in today . Thank you very much. We paper get through nearly in today . Thank you very much. We paper there. Et through nearly in today . Thank you very much. We paper there. The big story of today, helen says, i went out to lunch yesterday and i had cod and chips served with peas and a side salad with one slice of bread and butter. And it also came with a cup of tea. My bill was £8. Well that sounds like helen. Youve got to tell us where. Where, where is this amazing place . Where. Where, where is this am weve lace . Where. Where, where is this am weve lace been where. Where, where is this am weve lace been talking where. Where, where is this am weve lace been talking about weve also been talking about Roast Chicken today, a story out that the cooking instructions Roast Chicken today, a story out thachickensking instructions Roast Chicken today, a story out thachickenskingmaking ions Roast Chicken today, a story out thachickenskingmaking us s Roast Chicken today, a story out thachickenskingmaking us bake all chickens are making us bake them to death so theyre dry , them to death so theyre dry, chewy inedible. Whats the chewy and inedible. Whats the best way to cook Roast Chicken . Best way to cook Roast Chicken . Marlene . Now, marlenes got an air fryer, and im marlene . Now, marlenes got an airfryer, and im a big fan of air fryer, and im a big fan of an fryer. An air fryer. Do you have one . No you dont . No, ive got one. The air ninja. Fantastic. But i dont think theyre the best thing for chicken. But marlene disagrees. Roast the air fryer Roast Chicken in the air fryer 190 degrees for 45 minutes. Perfect the whole bird put it in 190 for 45 minutes. Yeah , not bad. Yeah, not bad. Yeah, not bad. But thats not that much quicker than an ordinary oven, is it . No, but it takes a lot less energy to heat an air fryer than the whole oven. In of cost so in terms of cost effectiveness good. Ijust effectiveness is good. I just tend they tend to find, marlene that they get on the outside and get quite dry on the outside and not on the inside. Not so nice on the inside. Thats just me. Were all different. But you see some of these top chefs arguing were chefs are arguing that were cooking wrong , but cooking chickens all wrong, but they disagree on they all seem to disagree on exactly what is best way, exactly what is the best way, dont they . But i when dont they . But i think when youre chef youre youre a top chef and youre very, very experience that, you know, look know, by the look of the chicken, its cooked chicken, whether its cooked through whether through or not and whether its moist whether you moist enough or whether you should for a bit longer, should cook it for a bit longer, the mere amateurs i yeah. Beverly in cheshire got a great tip. I always rubber chicken with oxo cube together with olive oil on the chicken. So just coat it over. First wrap in tin foil for an hour and then take out for an hour and then put it back in for half an hour and takes day. And wrap that takes all day. Thats hours all in. Then thats 2. 5 hours all in. Then ill it out leave it to ill take it out and leave it to settle, for an hour settle, wrapped for an hour more. But more. Complicated, but delicious. The delicious. Dont forget the gravy. Five. Our gravy. Thats about five. Our bird. Gravy. Thats about five. Our bircyeah. Yeah. Yeah. Go for fish and chips go out for fish and chips instead. The best fish and chips, says are at chips, says jeff, are at Folkestone Harbour. Votes did best and chips in kent. Best fish and chips in kent. Well, they should be at folkestone almost Folkestone Harbour almost shouldnt should fresh shouldnt they . Should be fresh fish part fish should be a part of the package. Gary live package. And gary says, i live in prague and i yearn for engush in prague and i yearn for english fish and chips. Theres nothing to beat we do have nothing to beat it. We do have a few restaurants here that serve fish , but they taste fish and chips, but they taste nothing like they the good nothing like they do in the good old uk. The great fish and the Great British fish and chips up. I hope youre all getting as out there as getting as hungry out there as well. Well. Im starving. Starving just thinking im starving just thinking about move on to about it. Shall we move on to the top this im the top story this morning . Im afraid its railways again. Afraid its the railways again. Rail more rail passengers facing more disruption , even as members of disruption, even as members of the rmt union walking out the rmt union are walking out again today. Yeah, 14 Rail Companies will be factored and a large part of the rail network will see little or service at all. Or no service at all. Today, services that do run today will finish much earlier than usual. Well, yes, earlier we spoke to former rmt assistant general secretary steve hedley. Secretary steve hedley. I dont think there has. I dont think the theres been any further offers on the table and the conditions that theyre going to have to be changes in terms and conditions and loss of jobs are still demanded by the government through the company. So i dont see any prospect of a strike being settled. So steve, what would get a break through to help end this . Because were in a situation now where the trail , the train where the trail, the Train Network is in a very different position post pandemic. There simply arent many passengers simply arent as many passengers returning work for returning to work paying for those of season tickets. Those expense of season tickets. About 40 volume down. And the government is still the biggest investor, 62 pumping money in. Hundreds of millions of pounds , in fact, millions of pounds, in fact, billions of pounds over the penod billions of pounds over the period the last, last few years over over the pandemic period , over over the pandemic period, which is ridiculous because for a lot of time there was only a Skeleton Service running. But but that money still went in and it went out. The shareholders, all these private companies, if that money was then taken and given to the workers who actually running the job, the strike would be over. That would pay strike would be over. That would pay for that would pay entirely for the for the strike. So it wouldnt be it wouldnt be another massive amount of money that would need to go in. It would just better of the would just be better use of the money in there already. Money that was in there already. Mean, endless strikes i mean, these endless strikes are down who are getting everybody down who wants able use wants to be able to use the trains. From the people that trains. But from the people that youre speaking to , the people youre speaking to, the people youre speaking to, the people you well, what is morale you know well, what is morale like amongst the people who are actually on strike . I mean , how actually on strike . I mean, how much longer can they go on striking . Striking . Well, the thing is that there theyre prepared to go on. I mean , the strikes after they say mean, the strikes after they say the way the strikes have been called is not i dont think its been its been an effective strategy. Having a few days, strategy. Having a few days, a month or a few days every couple of months is not being effective. But people are absolutely incandescent that when theyve had a three year basically a three year pay freeze. Inflation three year pay freeze. Inflation is rampant and that theyre being expected to take a real terms pay cut and pay for that real terms pay cut with their jobs and conditions. So theyre not going to give in. Theyre not going to give in. Theyre not to going accept anything thats at the thats on the table at the minute. That , theyre minute. And until that, theyre prepared to go on strike. What is it about the train drivers and the train unions thats different from the fact thats different from the fact that police, for example, theyve accepted pay deal, theyve accepted a pay deal, teachers accepted a pay teachers have accepted a pay deal teachers have accepted a pay deal. Fire workers have Civil Servants have doctors have. How much of this, steve, is actually about pay and how much is it . Is about pay and how much is it . Is about politics. You know, old socialist like yourself wanting to cause maximum damage to the conservative government. Conservative government. Oh, that. Just that. That is really ridiculous. I mean, when people are offered when inflation over the past three years is top 20 and people are getting offered a 9 pay raise, its 11 nearly 12 real terms pay its 11 nearly 12 real terms pay cut. Do you really think people are going out over socialism when theyre when their pay and the amount of money that they can spend every week has gone down in real terms by you know , its just by about 20 . You know, its just i know you just dread these things up every now and again, but people dont go on strike things up every now and again, butthat. Le dont go on strike things up every now and again, butthat. I; dont go on strike things up every now and again, butthat. I wisht go on strike things up every now and again, butthat. I wisht go did. Trike for that. I wish they did. I really wish they did. Well whatever you think of the union ins and the government and the way its being handled , youve way its being handled, youve probably got a view, like jim says , i work for. Says, i work for. No, no, not that one. Dave says, hi, dave. I have a feeling that both sides in this are running this through to the next election. The tories would then be able to say they didnt give in, labour come to in, especially if labour come to an. The union are also an agreement. The union are also wanting to be in charge wanting labour to be in charge so their influence so they can use their influence and expect to deal the and expect labour to deal the way they want. It does way they want. It almost does feel like that. It certainly looks as though its going to go on for another year. Yeah. Steve hadley, if yeah. And steve hadley, if you watch the of you want to watch the rest of that argument, its on our Youtube Channel at gb news. Its fair to say steve didnt see the funny side , but i honestly do funny side, but i honestly do think weve gone beyond pay. Think now weve gone beyond pay. This political damage. This is about political damage. What else can explain the fact that every other union seems to have come to an agreement apart from the nurses course. From the nurses of course. I think theyre playing politics. From the nurses of course. I thinkwant re playing politics. From the nurses of course. I thinkwant re damageoolitics. From the nurses of course. I think want re damage the ics. From the nurses of course. I thinkwant re damage the tories. They want to damage the tories. Lets think. Lets know what you think. Thats one thing. But well, thats one thing. But the thing want to the other thing youll want to know whats running and the other thing youll want to knowisnt. Whats running and the other thing youll want to knowisnt. Where its running and the other thing youll want to knowisnt. Where willunning and the other thing youll want to knowisnt. Where will you ng and the other thing youll want to knowisnt. Where will you be and what isnt. Where will you be able travel to by rail today able to travel to by rail today . Earlier on, we spoke to our travel simon hes travel guru, simon calder. Hes the knew actually things the man who knew actually things are running pretty normally in lovely Northern Ireland. And that means that if you are making an intercity journey, a journey to or from the seaside, well, you absolutely need to check in advance. Interestingly there are more trains i calculate running today on a National Strike day than they have been before. But than they have been before. But even so, exactly as you say, things will be wrapping up at about 7 pm. And the message very much from the train operators is do not start a journey unless youre absolutely sure that you can finish it. And to be fair, ive travelled a lot ever since the first strike day. Well, since the 1980s, which was 21st of june last year. Most strike days ive travelled by train and the services which are advertised tend to run pretty efficiently. Efficiently. Simon this has been going on for so long now, mick. The ganh for so long now, mick. The grinch lynch tried to steal christmas. Grinch lynch tried to steal christmas. Now it seems hes trying to steal the summer. So this has been going on forever. Its got to be the longest strike since i was a kid in the 19705. Strike since i was a kid in the 1970s. What are they after and what think its going to what do you think its going to take reach some of breakthrough . Well, youve summed it up beautifully there, martin yeah , beautifully there, martin yeah, i thought it was all going to be over by christmas, last over by christmas, but last christmas, be glad its christmas, id be glad if its over by this coming christmas. There a fundamental gap there is a fundamental gap between what the unions want and expect, and were not just talking here about the rmt. Talking here about the rmt. Weve got the usual aslef overtime bans , a whole series of overtime bans, a whole series of them which are basically running on monday to saturday very regularly through the saturday and through through the summer. And unfortunately next saturdays pride event in brighton, one of the biggest pride events in the country there will be no trains to brighton because they didnt think that they could run enough with the overtime ban going on. But lets lets have look at but lets lets have a look at whats with the rmt whats happening with the rmt and actually its the Train Drivers Union as well. The same thing , which Drivers Union as well. The same thing, which is Drivers Union as well. The same thing , which is they many Drivers Union as well. The same thing, which is they many in many cases havent had a rise for four years. They say we want a decent increase in pay and please give us that because obviously we worked all the way through covid and were expecting inflation to continue to be high. So we want that decent pay rise. The train operators who actually are basically just doing the governments bidding say, well , governments bidding say, well, you cant havent you seen what a dismal our finances are in the Rail Industry since covid and basically the bedrock of season ticket sales, people paying thousands of pounds every year to commute in from places like winchester and woking, well, thats all gone and not all gone, but large parts of it has as people tend to work more flexibly. Therefore, we have flexibly. Therefore, we have really short of money and the only way you can get even a modest increase is if you agree to changes in working conditions. And the unions who are used to and good luck to them every time theres a so called modernisation or an efficiency, they would extract out an extra few for that. They say, no, you know, give us a decent pay rise and then we can talk about modernisation. Modernisation. And that was the amazing simon calder , who joined us from simon calder, who joined us from a Railway Station in the south of france. And during the interview, a Freight Train went past and it didnt even put him off his stride whatsoever, did it . And it very long Freight Train. It was very long Freight Train. At least theyre running but at least theyre running in consummate in france. Consummate professional. Now, weve been talking bullying and weve had Workplace Bullying and weve had so views. And thank so many views. And thank you very much, jesse says. For instance, she says, i worked for a company where a large Insurance Company where our manager thrived on drama. Our manager thrived on drama. She would select one person to pick on her main angles were to single them out, pick on her main angles were to single them out , whether that be single them out, whether that be ensuring that they couldnt join in rest of the in or working the rest of the team up to get angry with that person. Shelley adds ive previously worked in health care, in management, in the private sector. They were by far the worst bullies ive ever worked for. I was told that im married. I dont need a pay rise. Another occasion if i can afford to take our three children to cuba for holiday, afford to take our three child i en to cuba for holiday, afford to take our three childi didntuba for holiday, afford to take our three childi didnt needyr holiday, afford to take our three childi didnt needyr payjay, afford to take our three childi didnt needyr pay rise. Then i didnt need a pay rise. In newcastle. Nicholas craig in newcastle. Thank you. Craig says the problem with Workplace Bullying is cliques that occur with is the cliques that occur with certain people usually jobsworths or people that have been there longer and they bully the people like me that just want to go to work, do their job and home. And go home. Yeah, lot of people and yeah, a lot of people and were sentiment that were echoing a sentiment that you made earlier and that is oftentimes are very oftentimes the bosses are very poorly the in and poorly with the people in hr and therefore, out therefore, if something gets out to the finds out about to hr, the boss finds out about it anyway it exacerbate it anyway and it can exacerbate the and doesnt help the issue and doesnt help at all. Fans the all. But actually fans the flames. Through . Flames. Do you work it through . Milton keynes says, darren in Milton Keynes says, ive slightly different ive got a slightly different view ive senior view because ive been a senior manager decades , as i have manager for decades, as i have had lots of colleagues claiming bullying and using it as a defence for their own shortcomings. Yeah, and theres also been lots of people saying that they actually quite like having very stern bosses. They went out of their way to win their respect and a lot of people saying actually this is just all a bit snowfle lakey. So where is that balance . Well, lets find out our next item because itv chef james martin is the latest celebrity to be accused of bullying series of bullying after a series of incidents reported by his incidents were reported by his staff. Yes bullying has become a frequent problem in the workplace with the Human Resources saying Resources Company cipd saying that 53 of those people who have been bullied or harassed in the last three years did not report the problem to a higher authority. And how do you know youre being bullied at work and what can you do about it . Well, lets now go to joe hemmings, behavioural psychologist. Top of behavioural psychologist. Top of the to you, joe, thanks the morning to you, joe, thanks for joining us. So the big forjoining us. So the big question you know, what is question is, you know, what is stern management . What is calling out incompetence . What is calling out poor behaviour or performance . And then crossing that into outright abusive that line into outright abusive behaviour . Behaviour . Morning both. Um, its morning both. Um, its interesting. Its a quite a fine line and a lot of it is to do with how an individual interprets that behaviour. So one person could consider a stern, rude management style as being okay and another person could say no, i feel sort of intimidated by this. I feel threatened, i feel uncomfortable. So a lot of it is in the eye of the beholder to a degree, but actually, if you think about the workplace , a think about the workplace, a funny structure, really, you go in, go to a job and the boss sort of mentors you a bit or your manager mentors you in order that you might get their job ultimately. And i do think that some managers find that quite difficult here i am bringing on this person training them up, but actually , ali, them up, but actually, ali, eventually they want my job. And so those managers feel quite intimidated or threatened , and intimidated or threatened, and lets put it that way by that junior whos doing perhaps as well or better than them, they can see them going up through the ranks and possibly getting their and so they their own role. And so they start to sort of be unpleasant, difficult bullying to that individual , difficult bullying to that individual, sort of almost put them off that track to getting their own job. The question is, though, what do you do about it . If as has been reported and i certainly would feel this, that i, i dont want to id be reluctant to report the problem to hr because i would just be afraid that theyll make it worse. So how do you start to unravel the problem . Is there any solution to it at all . Look, i think you do have to report it, but i do think you need to go with some sort of evidence, if you like, that makes you feel more secure. So makes you feel more secure. So make a note those times its make a note of those times its happening. Happening to happening. What is happening to you . Whats being said . You know, written evidence know, is there written evidence in or whatever. And so in emails or whatever. And so when do go to hr, youve got when you do go to hr, youve got to if you like. To kind of dossier, if you like. This been on this this has been going on and this has happening to me. And has been happening to me. And i think that make people think that would make people more about reporting more reassured about reporting bullying than simply going into hr and saying, look, im in a difficult position. Someone is bullying i say, one bullying me. As i say, one persons is another , persons bullying is another, you know, acceptable to you know, is acceptable to somebody else. But feel somebody else. But if you feel youre being bullied, youre feeling get that feeling uncomfortable, get that evidence together go and evidence together and go and present it hr. Know, if present it to hr. You know, if hr is a good enough department, they are obliged to take that seriously. So joe, weve had a huge, huge response from gb news viewers this morning on this topic. Its really, really got people going. Its really touched with saying touched a nerve with some saying it so it gave me it was so bad it gave me a stroke or it gave me physical manifestations. But others saying is now a complete saying this is now a complete change of culture where we are, in effect, generations. In effect, generations. Snowflake. Were encouraging people to feel victimised and to stem management, you know, stern management, you know, tough management, which in the past would have been acceptable, is now seen as unacceptable and is now seen as unacceptable and is being weaponised as is often being weaponised as a way of getting rid of bosses. Way of getting rid of bosses. And in that instance, everybody loses, dont they . Loses, dont they . Look, i think theres a big difference between tough managers payment style and bullying , to be fair. And bullying, to be fair. And actually, you could flip that and say we are in a climate now where people feel more able to come forward. I think if you look back 20 or 30 years that people have bullied, they really did not feel they could answer because they were frightened they would lose their jobs, they were fighting, get a were fighting, they would get a bad company. Bad reputation in their company. You lot of legislation you know, a lot of legislation has enabled people to come forward. But i think people have forward. But i think people have to ask themselves, this is why i say get a dossier, get evidence. You just off you know, is it just a one off incident . Did i come into work feeling good that day . Feeling not so good that day . Did the wrong did i take something the wrong way . Suggesting that way . Im not suggesting that theyre bullied, but theyre not being bullied, but i do got ask do think youve got to ask yourself , is do think youve got to ask yourself, is it a one off . Is it yourself, is it a one off . Is it your boss in a bad mood that day . I your boss in a bad mood that day . I mean, it has to be a consistency of behaviour here. I think for it to become bullying rather than a one off incident where someone may a grumpy where someone may be in a grumpy mood or i guess you also have to ask yourself, is it making me deeply unhappy or is it making me think ill change my job because i mean, thats ultimately you shouldnt have to feel unhappy at work , should you feel unhappy at work, should you . And the problem is that we spend so much time at work that we go home and we cant sleep at night or we take it out on our families because its a constant high level of cortisol. The stress hormone thats thats all pervasive. And youre never pervasive. And youre never really settled from it. So i think if youre feeling that way and that anxious , really, yeah, and that anxious, really, yeah, i think you can probably conclude that you are being bullied or at least youre so uncomfortable, you feel youve got to something because uncomfortable, you feel youve got to you1ething because uncomfortable, you feel youve got to you know,| because uncomfortable, you feel youve got to you know, youve se uncomfortable, you feel youve got to you know, youve just otherwise you know, youve just feeling sort of managed out, which is a horrible feeling when youre in a job. And joe, finally , what makes and joe, finally, what makes a bully are you born a bully . Do you learn to be a bully by being in bullying environment or a in a bullying environment or a lot of people have been saying on this morning, on the views this morning, bullies bullies at bullies who are bullies at school, go to bullies school, just go on to be bullies in workplace, to yeah, in the workplace, to yeah, i think its a fair point. They probably do look , most they probably do look, most bullies are bullies because either theyve got their own inadequacies and their own fears that theyre actually not as good at their job as they think. So therefore they rule with an iron rod in to order prove that or they found it effective. You or they found it effective. You know, theyve grown up saying, yeah, you know, i kind of get my way by behaving like this and it works for me. So there are all sorts reasons people are sorts of reasons why people are bullies, are bullies, but unless they are called at some point , that called out at some point, that will continue to go on. Unfortunately. Unfortunately. So you first off. Well, jo hemmings, thank you for your insights. Morning. Fascinating it really has got people going today this morning, and there have and loads of have been loads and loads of views i think its views coming in. I think its really earth. Really sort of scratching earth. A out there seem a lot of people out there seem to have bullying bosses and maybe james martin is maybe the james martin story is has have that sort of conversation. Yeah, i still i still dont think that shows the complexity of the problem. You still dont know after all morning talking about it whether or not its everit about it whether or not its ever it can never be solved. Ever it can never be solved. Yeah. If youve got somebody whos absolutely gets off on being nasty to you. Yeah. How do you ever really resolve it . But then we had a comment, a fascinating comment earlier on from from a Police Officer in coventry. Pardon me. I forget coventry. Pardon me. I forget your name. Who said that they had a very, very tough, domineering boss. Domineering bullying boss. He said , who publicly humiliated said, who publicly humiliated him in front of the entire squad over a report being a day late and then he set out to make his careers mission to please this guy. Ended becoming his guy. He ended up becoming his best and he said, its best friend and he said, its the boss he ever had. So the best boss he ever had. So theres incident somebody theres an incident of somebody interpreting that behaviour in a completely different it completely different way. It could have been the making or the him, but this the breaking of him, but this guy of it guy actually sort of said it helped him. Its pretty yeah, its pretty extraordinary that, isnt it . Because it because i would make it my lifes mission to defy him , to lifes mission to defy him, to get revenge. Yeah. Yeah. I would. Rather than try and please him. Yeah but it worked. It clearly worked out for them in the end. But i still say that we all we all have we all have a right to enjoy our work. I think it may be a lot to hope for with some jobs, but i think theres no way you should actually feel unhappy going to work. Yeah, incredibly interesting. Yeah, incredibly interesting. We all also have we all have an obligation to do our best at work and to be nice to people. Whats wrong with being nice to people . Yeah, but why do some people find it so difficult . But then if youre nice people, do you if youre nice to people, do you get best out them because get the best out of them because they oh, this is just they think, oh, this is just this a thing. I can hang this is a nice thing. I can hang out and chill out all day. Well, actually, youve got some productivity, youve got some deadunes productivity, youve got some deadlines need to deadlines to hit. So you need to crack the whip every now and then. Low pressure has returned once again. Its pushing its way once again. Its pushing its way into northwestern areas of the uk. Squeezing uk. Those isobars squeezing together. So quite blustery winds throughout much the winds throughout much of the weekend. Also bringing weekend. Its also bringing showers of us. With showers for many of us. With those blustery winds, though, the showers will be pushing through it quite a pace. So therell sunny therell still be some sunny intervals but intervals in between, but showers most frequent for northern of Northern Ireland, parts of western scotland today where they could heavy, they could turn heavy, maybe with thunder in with some hail and thunder in the mixture well. In those the mixture as well. In those sunnier that you get sunnier spells that you do get in though, temperatures sunnier spells that you do get in between gh, temperatures sunnier spells that you do get in between around peratures sunnier spells that you do get in between around 19ratures sunnier spells that you do get in between around 19 t01res ranging between around 19 to 24 c. Most of the showers across the bulk of the showers across the bulk of england and wales will ease their and it should turn their way out and it should turn largely with some sunny largely dry with some late sunny spells. But therell be continuing throughout the evening and overnight for northern of Northern Ireland. Parts of western southern western down into southern scotland. Proud sponsors of weather on gb news. Welcome back. Youre watching welcome back. Youre watching and listening to breakfast with martin and for some reason ive got a frog in my throat. I dont know why because im thinking fish and chips at the moment. The and debate is the fish and chip debate is becoming huge. Its spreading across the country. The price of fish and chips at the paddocks pub, according to mike in breadsall derby, you can have the meal deal two large cod and chips with mushy peas for 11. 99. Absolutely wonderful and we are quickly assimilating here. A kind of fish and chip league table. The price of the cross table. The price of the cross britain. Ive got to give a shout out to skeggy skegness, a place i went to most years as a kid. Richard says this. We were walking along the sea front in skegness yesterday and saw haddock and chips for £4. 50. No wonder so wonder skeggy is so ruddy popular. Popular. Well, they know how to price it right, dont they . Says it right, dont they . Ian says the best fish shop in britain is the best fish shop in britain is the fountain inn in coatbridge. Special haddock supper for £9. 60. Not bad , but carol says , £9. 60. Not bad, but carol says, oh, shes got a goody carol has. There are offers for fish and chips around my local pub the gare inn, in newport on a friday have an offer of £9 and that includes a lovely glass of wine or beer. Or beer. Ooh, that sounds beautiful. But this. This is so. This is sober reading. Alec says our sober reading. Alec says our local fish and chip shop here in taunton. Taunton is fantastic. However, fish and chips times two is £22. So unaffordable for most, especially for those with large families. Yeah, some fish and chips. Well, i dont know whether theyd like to be called chippies anymore, but some are clearly aiming at a sort of more middle class customer. Clearly aiming at a sort of more middle class customer. Yeah. Middle class customer. Yeah. Arent they . Yeah. Mary in a very hot spain she says, she said we live in spain and there is a chippy just outside alicante serving fish chips, alicante serving fish and chips, peas and bread and butter with the of cod or haddock. ,8 the choice of cod or haddock. ,8 each. Ill go slightly off piece here from battered fish , but here from battered fish, but stacey steve are getting me stacey and steve are getting me drooling. Stacey and steve are getting me dro weg. Delicious meal and we had a delicious meal and saint giles, which cost £22 for the main which was medium sea bass, small place fillet, small white fish in batter , two large white fish in batter, two large king prawns, three scallops, chips and salad. That sounds fantastic. Oh, im starving. Me fantastic. Oh, im starving. Me too. Too. Absolutely. But this is very interesting the way the price of fish and chips in most places is soaring, though some places are obviously keeping it reasonable. Its becoming an expensive meal. Definitely thought now we meal. Definitely thought now we were hearing there from mary in a very hot spain and its terrible, isnt it, with the wildfires sweeping across some of the most popular destinations , regions such as spain and greece and many british tourists have seen their flights and holidays cancelled. Holidays cancelled. And yeah, experts say it could be leading to a boost in Domestic Tourism as holidaymakers choose less risky opfions holidaymakers choose less risky options as closer to home. So to our options as closer to home. Soto our south east of england, reporter ray addison, he takes up story in his region. The footage makes for terrifying viewing once desirable holiday destinations turned into a hell on earth in just a matter of hours. And the dream of a relaxing vacation left in tatters for hardworking british tourists due to Airline Cancellations and the fear of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. Um. But could the wrong time. Um. But could the mediterraneans loss be the uks gain . All along englands south gain . All along englands south coast Industry Experts say theyre hearing anecdotal reports of an increase in bookings. Fran downton is chief bookings. Fran downton is chief executive of tourism south east. She says staycations appear to be on the rise. So in surveying our visitors to the south east we know that 38 of those will be returning back to the south east this year. We also know a further 16 who would normally go abroad have chosen the south east to take their days and short trips. Its a known known quantity, actually. Those possible queues at airport travelling to maybe unbearably hot areas at the moment. And the risk factor with moment. And the risk factor with that means that the uk is a really viable alternative with 66 sites across england, scotland and wales, parkdean resorts is the leading operator of Holiday Parks in the country. Operation director Barry Robinson says demand is suddenly up. In the last week weve seen a 20 spike in our booking rate year on year. That is attributable, i think unfortunately to the events that have occurred in greece and in europe. So as at a park in the north east this week and i spoke to a family that should have beenin to a family that should have been in rhodes for a fortnight, theyd done , i think, 4 or theyd done, i think, 4 or 5 nights of their holiday. They came back on sunday, tragically. But what they managed to do because they had time portion of a holiday was to rebook that. So theyre staying with us now for five nights, monday to friday. Meanwhile while fran says in an unexpected twist, uk holiday destinations are being told to prepare for an increase in tourists from mediterranean countries as they search for their own safe havens to relax. In britain , as more moderate in britain, as more moderate temperatures , certainly from temperatures, certainly from foreign nationals. Yet theres a distinct possibility that actually its seen as a safer bet. It takes the risk out of perhaps cancellation that they might see or certainly getting stuck in a destination. And at the moment, destination. And at the moment, our weather is slightly changeable, but obviously its warm. So its a comfortable alternative. I think as a as a destination. Ray addison gb news and we were asking you earlier, actually, where the best places in britain to go on holiday and everybodys got a view on that as well. We were hearing isle of wight magical. We were told, yes, llandudno was coming up, although the fish chips are although the fish and chips are pricey. Was going say pricey. Well, i was going to say yes, skegness where theyre not. Yeah got lots more to come yeah weve got lots more to come for stephanie is for you. Stephanie techy is going join were going going to join us. Were going to be brangelina going to join us. Mark dolan tonight is the most entertaining Current Affairs show ever, and thats a fact. Thats mark dolan tonight, fridays from 8 00 saturday and sunday from 9 00 only on gb news is the peoples channel. Britains news. Welcome back. Youre watching and listening to breakfast today with anne and martin. You know, ive been looking forward to bofis ive been looking forward to boris when we heard that the daily mail was signing Boris Johnson to do a column every saturday, i thought you know, that would be worth. Thatll be worth reading. Because, you know, he usually says things that are outraged , famous or that are outraged, famous or interesting , and therell be so interesting, and therell be so many things to talk about it. And this is his column today. You know, i mean, he obviously is required to write, what, 2000 words and thats usually what goes into a column. But hes not saying anything. And this must be like the 10th week now. He hasnt said anything worth talking about at all today. Hes talking about at all today. Hes talking about at all today. Hes talking about the barbie movie. Yeah i find it fascinating that nobody on our newspaper, weve had three waves of newspaper reviews. Reviews. Weve gone through about 30 stories. Even thought stories. Nobody even thought about up. He talks about picking this up. He talks about picking this up. He talks about fat loss injections and the first one was his very first, first one. Its first, very first one. Its like, okay, they scratching like, okay, they were scratching their know that their heads and you know that phrase, killer , no filler. Phrase, all killer, no filler. This the opposite. Its all this is the opposite. Its all filler. No killer. Theres no politics. Inside filler. No killer. Theres no politiand inside filler. No killer. Theres no politiand as inside filler. No killer. Theres no politiand as somebody de filler. No killer. Theres no politiand as somebody whos line. And as somebody whos edhed line. And as somebody whos edited magazines and newspapers for years , if i got that for many years, if i got that landed on my desk, i think what are we paying for here . I would think. Why did the editor sign him and how much did we pay him . Thats what id be thinking. Its interesting. You were talking meghan and harry. Its interesting. You were talkingthe meghan and harry. Its interesting. You were talkingthe sameaghan and harry. Its interesting. You were talkingthe same thing. And harry. Thats the same thing. Nobody when they offered when spotify was spotify or whoever it was and netflix offered particularly me, particularly meghan, when they offered her the idea of doing her own programme , a documentary her own programme, a documentary , and then podcasts and, and actually they offered the idea to harry as well, who came up with the idea that he might interview the pope about something or other and nobody thought to actually check the quality of what the commodity quality of what of the commodity they were buying these mega they were buying and these mega people at spotify and netflix are turning around and saying, well, they actually got well, they actually havent got anything say. And why do yeah anything to say. And why do yeah. And how much money did they offer them . And i think, you know, the public have every right a mugged off right to feel a bit mugged off by this. And its like, oh, the name is enough. You know, you will listen to whatever theyve got to meghan, to say because theyre meghan, because now to say because theyre meghan, because theyre now to say because theyre meghan, because theyre boris. Now to say because theyre meghan, because theyre boris. Id now to say because theyre meghan, because theyre boris. Id be yw because theyre boris. Id be interested to find out from somebody the mail this somebody at the mail if this has been worthwhile investor or been a worthwhile investor or a separate another day. Been a worthwhile investor or a sepdide another day. Been a worthwhile investor or a sepdid you another day. Been a worthwhile investor or a sepdid you really another day. Been a worthwhile investor or a sepdid you really pay her day. Been a worthwhile investor or a sepdid you really pay borisay. Did you really pay Boris Johnson to talk about the barbie movie 2000 words . Yeah, movie in 2000 words . Yeah, i just dont understand it. Yeah who cares at the end of the day anyway, there go. Our anyway, there you go. Thats our rant today. Now, despite the rant for today. Now, despite the wet events across wet weather, many events across the go ahead as the uk are going to go ahead as normal because were british and in Northern Ireland, no different. Indeed, the youth soccer tournament, cup, northern tournament, super cup, Northern Ireland been over ireland has been running over the from the last week with teams from right competing. Right across europe competing. Our ireland our legendary Northern Ireland reporter beattie has been reporter Dougie Beattie has been finding what about finding out what its all about i Northern Irelands summer festival season is well underway and on its gold coast at the bandstands are full and encouraging the locals into some fancy footwork in the same towns , the playing fields are supplying footwork of a different kind in the Northern Ireland super cup is celebrating its 40th year and the chairman, victor leonard, gives us an idea of its importance. Of its importance. Weve had teams coming from across the five continents over the 40 years, some of the biggest name clubs in the world have been here, both national and the club sides and this year is no exception. We certainly got probably some of the big club names from particularly uk, from premiership and from the scottish premiership. Well, i scottish premiership. Well, i think it brings a lot in that our local young talent, think it brings a lot in that our local young talent , our our local young talent, our footballers, have progressed quite well in Northern Ireland. Keith gillespie had a very successful premiership career and recognises the importance and recognises the importance and exposure in tournaments such as this. I mean, this is this is a tournament now which is well known throughout the world and every scout , you know, turns up every scout, you know, turns up at these games because there is some great talent on show. You some great talent on show. You know, it is difficult to, you know, it is difficult to, you know , to actually make it, you know, to actually make it, you know, to actually make it, you know, because there is a small percentage, but theres plenty of players have seen this week, which have no doubt will go on and have careers, you know, be it in england, scotland, you know,. Know, even europe. Its more than likely within the next four years as some of the next four years as some of the lads playing here will appear premiership. Appear in the premiership. But these tournaments are about much more than developing physical skills. All about ability, skills. Its all about ability, attitude and dealing with situations while under pressure. Seven heinz had a great career with west ham and is now passing those skills and wisdom onto a new generation. New generation. Enjoy the process. I think enjoy the process. I think sometimes we think about the future so much that we actually not enjoy actually trying to become a professional footballer. I think some of them have arrogance. Theres a have arrogance. Theres a difference between arrogance and confidence and then theres some with confidence within themselves , as in they want to themselves, as in they want to get better, but they actually know that theyre not there yet. So ive got a few of my team who are confident but always ask questions and for me that shows a different level of confidence i the 5mm the super cup has grown through some of Northern Irelands darkest years and still continues to open doors for those individuals that may see it as somewhat of a mystery. Yeah. Yeah. Happy birthday, bob. Now we were talking sport earlier. You were. So can i just kick off . I want to know from stephanie whats happening with brangelina and their vineyard, chateau miraval. Its in the south of france. It was very much a chateau of their love. Its where they got married. And it symbolises that they had so many wonderful memories there and wonderful times there. They bought it for £17 million in 2008. It is now worth £128 million. The problem is an investment, not a bad return. A very good. A very good. But angelina in 2022, he she sold it to a russian oligarch, which got brads oh, shes already sold . Yeah, she sold her already sold . Yeah, she sold her half. Oh so brad is now having to partition her up with a russian oligarch. So he took it russian oligarch. So he took it to the courts because hes saying, look, angelina is trying to get me in business with someone whos got poison intentions. Shes really seedy guy intentions. Shes really seedy guy. They were taking it to the guy. They were taking it to the courts, but now theyve decided that theyre going settle out that theyre going to settle out of they are going to of court. So they are going to have a mediator on this. Its have a mediator on this. Its been controversial for been quite controversial for both of them. And i think because theyve got six children together, they know if it goes together, they know if it goes to the courts, its going to be played nasty. Theyll played out really nasty. Theyll lose already, some of the lose it already, some of the statements that have been coming out, you know, angelina has called. Shes called brad a bully, of stuff. Called. Shes called brad a bull think of stuff. Called. Shes called brad a bull think its of stuff. Called. Shes called brad a bull think its actuallystuff. Called. Shes called brad a bull think its actually quite so i think its actually quite good for them take it out. Good for them to take it out. The courts and they can settle it because its the only thing thats been lingering on with their settlement. This their divorce settlement. This chateau, aiden . Chateau, dont you find, aiden . Argue about cds most couples argue about cds or the dog or the dog. Or or maybe the dog or the dog. Its funny. I did know someone whos quite, quite prominent. Well known on television. He me couple television. He told me a couple of ago that he didnt get of years ago that he didnt get any inheritance parents any inheritance from his parents because they spent about eight years each other and years fighting each other and they nothing. And they ended up with nothing. And they ended up with nothing. And the as anne just the only winners, as anne just mentioned ago, the mentioned a moment ago, were the lawyers waste money just like that . Yes, you can. But but divorce sets to people very often completely loggerheads sets to people very often comjeachy loggerheads sets to people very often comjeach other. Loggerheads sets to people very often comjeach other. Loggywontis with each other. They wont agree but its agree about anything, but its interesting. Angelina must interesting. Then angelina must have sold that obviously well before ukraine before the ukraine war. Definitely and yes, she did. Definitely and the brad is left with the other half the so thats why half of the half. So thats why hes been quite annoyed by it. Hes stuck and i think hes kind of stuck and i think thats spiteful of thats kind of spiteful of angeuna thats kind of spiteful of angelina know, she angelina because, you know, she could it in family could have kept it in the family given one of the children. Given it to one of the children. Its not like i think, its not like her, i think, through this long have they been broken up. Theyve broken , broken up. Theyve been broken, divorced in was it 2016 . Okay. I always thought i always thought Angelina Jolie likes to of pride herself likes to sort of pride herself on kind of ethical, on being this kind of ethical, humanitarian and suddenly oligarch. Yeah, ill take your money. Yeah, ill take your money. Very much. Yeah, it thanks very much. Yeah, it doesnt thanks very much. Yeah, it doe everyones. Everyones got everyones. Everyones got a price. Aidan, lets do a bit of price. Aidan, lets do a bit of sport now. The ashes. I still think england was by the think england was robbed by the weather in old trafford. Now the aussies are playing out a bit of a soulless back to the 80 single run test cricket, reminiscent of the boycott era. They they look like a they want. They look like a team. Want to out of this team. We want to get out of this country as quickly possible, country as quickly as possible, not of their not by the speed of their cricket, by literally cricket, just by literally wearing down. However, wearing england down. However, there carrot the end of there is a carrot at the end of it. Want to win a it. They want to win a tournament a series tournament here or win a series here. For the First Time Since 2001, which would be a feather in their cap. But its creating some quite boring cricket by australia. What australia. And thats not what were australia. Were used to from australia. And im not talking about and im not even talking about going years ago. Im going back a few years ago. Im talking about in relatively recent just dont recent times. They just dont play recent times. They just dont play england are now play like that. England are now the side, but it the expensive side, but it hasnt paid off. Theyve reached 5. 92 old trafford hasnt paid off. Theyve reached 5. 92were old trafford hasnt paid off. Theyve reached 5. 92were gutted old trafford hasnt paid off. Theyve reached 5. 92were gutted oldthatford hasnt paid off. Theyve reached 5. 92were gutted old that itd and were gutted to see that it didnt. It was it wasnt wasnt to prevail just because of the rain australia 2295 rain and australia got 2295 yesterday so they 12. Yesterday so they lead by 12. Were see weve seen were going to see weve seen more out than i thought we more play out than i thought we would because theres been a lot of last couple of of rain in the last couple of days, havent at at the days, havent we, at the at the oval theyre off again at 11 oval and theyre off again at 11 this morning. Steve smith 1871. He was lucky to survive a run out yesterday for australia with some controversy, controversy at the look, the stumps. But, you know, look, if can a draw, if england can force a draw, i think given everything that happened and all the happened on on and all the things throughout things that happened throughout the series, i think that would things that happened throughout theaeries, i think that would things that happened throughout thea respectable< that would things that happened throughout thea respectable result. Vould things that happened throughout thea respectable result. Iljld be a respectable result. It would triumph. It would in would be a triumph. It would in some though, some ways, though, because i mean, would then mean, everyone would know then that been defeated by the that youve been defeated by the rain australia really are rain and australia really are the reigning reigning the reigning the reigning champions. This, we did that on before. Nice little nice little pun. Now then, kylie. Yes, in las vegas first we now then, kylie. as, in las vegas first we now then, kylie. a dale. As vegas first we had a dale. Now kylie started on november the 3rd. P e there is no yes. Well, there is no business like show business, but in las is where a lot of in las vegas is where a lot of singers get the money singers go to get the money because get paid millions because they get paid millions to since there. So kylie to have since there. So kylie says shes announced las says shes announced her las vegas going says shes announced her las ve be. Going says shes announced her las ve be in going says shes announced her las ve be in caesars going says shes announced her las ve be in Caesars Palace going says shes announced her las ve be in Caesars Palace because to be in Caesars Palace because thats where really get thats where you really get about capacity of fans. About capacity of 4000 fans. Shes be in the venice shes going to be in the venice hotel , the venetian hotel, and hotel, the venetian hotel, and its only going to be a capacity of 1000. So its less, but she wants it more intimate and stuff. So this will be the first time shes going to be back in las vegas since 2011. So its going to be a big. How long is residency . How long is a residency . How long is a residency . Usually three months. How long is a residency . Gosh. Ly three months. Gosh. Gosh. So its not its not as long as i thought. You just rake it in those three. In during those three. Single weekend youll in during those three. Performing e weekend youll in during those three. Performing there. end youll in during those three. Performing there. And youll be performing there. And its you bring crowds from all you do bring the crowds from all over the world who will come and you know, come and watch. They tend to extend residencies. If they do well, they do. And i kylie has that factor. I think kylie has that factor. Shes factor and shes got the x factor and i think got so many fans think shes got so many fans around the world who would love to her perform vegas. So to see her perform in vegas. So i its a good one for her i think its a good one for her because think for a lot of because i think for a lot of artists you can get money from selling music, but it really is from the performances where you can fan. Can connect with your fan. Spears had residency. Spears had a long residency. Spears had a long residency. Did, and so did yeah, she did, and so did Shania Twain Celine dion. Shania twain and celine dion. Shes had, i suppose but shes had, i suppose it was started by one frank was all started by one frank sinatra, wasnt it . Yeah, hes one of the first that ever went to. Yeah. Yeah. Ever went to las and ever went to las vegas and stayed for and stayed there for months and months months and just raked months and months and just raked them yeah. Have seen them in. Yeah. Have you seen a performance las vegas have performance in las vegas or have you vegas . You been to vegas . Ive never to vegas. Ive never been to vegas. Ive never been to vegas. Id love to go to vegas every year our children. Year before our children. Then thats another pleasure that on stage with that was denied on stage with Calvin Harris 2015 Calvin Harris in 2015 because i knew who was involved knew somebody who was involved and black and they gave me a black wristband, expecting it to be. I thought it might get me in with a few of my friends. They didnt believe me i was just didnt believe me and i was just escorted escorted all the escorted or escorted all the way to stage. It was incredible. You cant beat you cant beat that story. You cant. That really is that tops the lot. Okay, stephanie think were stephanie aid, i think were going to leave it there.
