Gaps in Black and white home ownership transcend a booming market and threaten to leave some behind

DeLuca Homes and other builders are seeing an increase in orders for new houses as buyers face a low supply of existing homes for sale. Low inventory also is driving up prices, exacerbating the gap in home ownership between Black and white Americans.
The housing market has stayed strong throughout the pandemic, thanks in large part to historically low mortgage rates. But not everyone has an equal opportunity to take advantage, as the National Association of Realtors laid out in a report on race and home buying last month.
