A Galesburg man is facing a felony charge after Galesburg Police conducted a traffic stop on a sedan that committed numerous traffic offenses on Saturday night. While responding to another call, Galesburg Police observed the sedan's driver improperly using his turn signal several times and noticed the vehicle's registration was not properly displayed. The 44-year-old male driver gave officers a name and birth date that would later be determined to be false. The man told officers he did not have a driver's license because he didn't have a birth certificate. The man's 25-year-old female passenger was free to go. The man was taken into custody and transported to the Knox County Jail. The name the man gave came up as having "no record" according to police reports. It wasn't until police and jail staff went to the suspect's Facebook page that he was identified. The man was driving a vehicle registered to a woman that officers were aware he was in a relationship with. Police then discovered the man had a no-bond warrant out of Brown County, Wisconsin. The man was charged with No Valid Driver's License, the warrant, Improper Display of Registration, and a class 4 felony charge of Obstructing Justice. Galesburg Police around 2:30 in the morning on Sunday conducted a traffic stop on Mulberry Avenue for a sedan with a loud muffler. Police made contact with the female driver and officers could detect a faint burnt cannabis odor. The driver admitted to smoking cannabis an hour prior to driving but showed no displays of impairment. Police then identified the backseat passenger as a 32-year-old Galesburg man. There was no record found on the front seat female passenger. Police then conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle and numerous baggies of cannabis were located inside the car. Police then searched a purse near the front seat passenger and found the woman's ID. It was discovered the 25-year-old woman had a valid Knox County warrant, but the woman told police she gave a false name because she "did not like" police, according to reports. The driver and back passenger was free to go. The front-seat passenger was transported to the Knox County Jail and charged with the warrant, Obstructing Identification and Unlawful Possession of Cannabis in a Motor Vehicle.
