PMC requested to give them dedicated spots to clean and earn
With hygiene becoming a crucial point of focus as the COVID-19 pandemic proceeds, a new effort to ensure cleanliness in public spaces has come from fresh quarters. A small band of homeless persons and beggars, who have been named the ‘Kharata Phaltan’, have now started cleaning the streets and areas around
city monuments, via which they are also earning money for the hours of work put in.
Organised by well-known ‘doctor for beggars’ Dr Abhijit Sonawane, the initiative has now been put before the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) for formalisation as well, with a request to assign places to the team to work dedicatedly. And, civic officials have also welcomed the concept.
