Dana im Dana Perino and this is americas newsroom. We have covered entirely too many of these. The Horror Unfolding Yesterday at apalachee high School East of atlanta. The shooter killed four people. Two students and two teachers. Nine others wounded. Bill a 14yearold Student at The School was the shooter. He surrendered to School Resource officers and is now in custody. Authorities revealing they invested him last year for making violent threats online. They conducted the investigation and no probable cause for arrest or to take any additional Law Enforcement action. We wanted to bring it to your attention. Were pursuing that. Working with the f. B. I. On that and any connection to that incident that could be connected. Dana were getting new video from Inside One of the classrooms showing officers in full Body Armor responding to the scene and pulling students to safety. Dana Marie Mcnicholl is live in winder, georgia, this morning. Good morning. Good morning, dana. As this tight community remains in Mourning Apalachee High School is still a crime scene. We do know that flags here are at Half Staff and so many questions remain here this morning but the gun used was an ar15style rifle. According to the Georgia Bureau of investigation. We spoke to students here saying they fear returning to work. I dont want to come back and i dont our Safety Isnt guaranteed as you can see. They brought a Big Gun. Not even a pistol. They brought a Big Gun that can kill numerous people. Now Law Enforcement are calling the School Resource officers heroes who engaged with 14yearold Colt Gray and got him to the ground and took him into custody. We learned the names of the four people who lost their lives. Mason, a 14yearold Student. Christian, a 14yearold Student, two teachers, richard and christina. Now according to the Schools Website the adults killed were both math teachers. The man was also an assistant football coach. We spoke to one student who was in one of those classrooms where a teacher was shot and a warning. This is difficult to listen to. He did have a Gunshot Wound to the bottom of his chest. He was bleeding out. Some other kids got up and they dragged his body inside and closed the door. After they dragged him in i started barricading the door with all the things i could find. Me and some other kids lifted up his shirt to see where the Gunshot Wound was and put pressure on it. The bleeding would not stop. We just stopped until the cops got there. Questions still remain about how gray got the gun inside The School. The teenager was on the f. B. I. Radar since last year. The 13yearold at the time was flagged after making online threats tied to the shooting. Threats clued photos of the gun. They went to the Shooters Home and spoke to the father and had Hunting Guns in the House And Son never had unsupervised access to the guns and the teenager denied making those threats online. F. B. I. Said at that time there was no probable cause to arrest him or take any further action. Nine people hospitalized are expected to survive. Law enforcement say the shooter is in Police Custody and will be tried as an adult for murder. A Couple Gofundmes have been set up for the victims. It looks like over 1 Hundred Thousand has already been raised. Now in terms of The School, it will be closed for the rest of the week as this investigation continues. Dana. Dana thank you. Lets go to 10 23. Three minutes later officers dispatch to The School and respond quickly. 10 45 Lockdown Message received by the parents of all the students at The School. Right before 12 noon then the suspect surrenders and is now in custody. Will be charged as an adult. Could the f. B. I. Have done anything . Kelly, former new York City Police Commissioner with us now. What is your hunch about the lead with the f. B. I. From more than a year ago . Well, i think more should have been done. Quite frankly, georgia should look into Red Flag law. Only 16 states have it. That monilate if it was in effect the police could have taken those guns. Until the investigation was finished. It was not in play in georgia at the time so they did what they could do. I think it is something that all states should have, quite frankly. Dana the f. B. I. Statement out of atlanta said this yesterday. The father stated he had Hunting Guns in the house but the subject did not have unsupervised access to them. The subject denied making the threats online. Jackson county alerted local schools for continued monitoring. No probable cause for arrest or take additional Law Enforcement action. Feels like Law Enforcement and school administrators, parents, kids, innocent ones are up against it. You are trying to find the smallest needle in the largest Hay Stack and privacy rights and rules. Here we are again talking about another School Shooting, sir. Absolutely. It is not easy. Particularly you are dealing with juveniles. It is problematic. No easy answer. No panacea. The Red Flag laws in effect in 16 states should be seriously looked at by georgia and its legislature. It is a working in other places. There is a period of time where the guns are out of the potential shooters hands and an investigation can be done. They dont have that in georgia but it is something to look at. It is a difficult area, no question about it. Bill roll the sound bite. The sheriff in the county yesterday. You talk about these initial interactions whoever was able to stop the shooter. Describe it to us. How did it go down and what exactly happened . The shooter was armed and our School Resource officers engaged him. The shooter quickly realized that if he did not give up, that it would end with an oif. Officers involved shooting. He gave up and got on the ground. Bill you get in these debates about guns in america and how you defend about that and whether or not you can take all the guns away. The answer here was to put a guard at The School. This guard did not stop everything but may have prevented further loss of life. Point number one. Point number two. If the f. B. I. Went to the home and the father said this is the case where i keep my guns, i have a lock on it, it is a code. My son doesnt have the key or code, under that scenario, would that be sufficient for the f. B. I. To be satisfied on a visit like that . Yeah. I think its reasonable to say that would have been sufficient. Talking to this father, its a person of responsibility, he has a case, as you say that is locked and he says that the child does not have access to the case, yeah, i think its something that they could accept. It is just, you know, as i say, i think you needed some process where Police Or F. B. I. Can hold onto the weapons for a period of time. In certain states they have it based on a Judges Determination or just based on a police department determination. It is something that i think should be seriously considered. As far as the School Resource officer, yeah, they did a great job. We need a lot more of them and these two officers, i believe are members of the Sheriffs Department and did a great job. They did not shoot and captured this individual. Bill just to be clear before we let you go here. We dont know if thats what happened with the f. B. I. At the house but it is a possibility and will come up as a question when we get the next briefing. Dana we had a question yesterday. In the middle of this could he reach the Plea Deal with the prosecution and get it over with that way . He can reach a Plea Deal with the prosecutors at any time. The idea is that they have to have a meeting of the minds. It is surprising it hasnt happened yet. It fell apart last year. It was the sweetheart deal. Now even if there was another deal that wasnt so beneficial to him, it likely would have saved him a significant amount of exposure both from a Penalty Jail time perspective but in terms of the Embarrassment And Humiliation to the Biden Family at large. I dont know what his motivation is here. There is something underlying that. It could be arrogance, it could be just ego, could be there is a greater plan that you go through this and maybe you get your acquittal. If you dont these are the steps that we are going to take.
