They elected something not on the very last row in the back bench but somebody that americans have not heard about and will be introduced to in the coming days. What do you make of that . That isnt what ended it, first of all, neil. There were problems with Congressman Emmers candidacy from the beginning because of things that had nothing to do with donald trump and votes that he took on spending and same sex marriage. Donald trump always tried to take credit for things they had nothing to do with. Tom emmers defeat for speaker had nothing to do with donald trump. Had everything to do with votes that tom emmer made during his time that some people fount objectionable. Id say this about Speaker Johnson. I disagree with him vehemently on the actions that he took after election day in 2020. I think it was wrong both factually and legally. But theres no matter who you pick as speaker, theres some disagreements that id have with the person as would happen with anybody in the caucus. I want to start with this moment forward, judging Speaker Johnson on what he does when he has the gavel in his hand. He has a different moment of leadership now and different obligations and responsibilities that he had as a back bencher or part of the folks that were defending donald trump in the House Of Representatives in the aftermath of the election. I hope he rises to the occasion. Our party needs it and our country needs it. Neil you know, while im on that subject, governor, Marjorie Taylor green said that matt gaetz and other republicans that voted against the former speaker had really done no one any good, that they need to apologize for all the house chaos that they caused. What did you make of that . I agree with her. I find myself rarely saying that i agree with Marjorie Taylor green. On this one, i do. Look, those eight caused this three weeks of chaos. In my view, they fired Kevin Mccarthy without cause. They had no plan on how to fix it afterwards. The chaos of the last three weeks is proof of that. I think there needs to be ramifications for that conduct. What the house caucus will decide are not as up to them. But what do i think . I think that these folks caused a lot of disruption and a lot of delay in dealing with important problems and they yielded absolutely nothing out of it. Neil you know, governor, we learned today that donald trump took the stand on his Business Holdings and what have you. He was fined 10,000 for violating a gag order. What did you make of that . He cant shut up, neil. He cant help himself. So obvious that what he said. Then he toes what he always does, has his lawyers lie for them. The lies were as they always were, insufficient. He got fined another 10,000. Look, im equally disturbed by the post he put out regarding mark meadows. The walls are closing in around him. I understand that. More importantly, he understands that. I was there, neil, in 2020 when mark meadows was Chief Of Staff preparing donald trump for the debates against joe biden. I can tell you that mark meadows was velcroed to Donald Trumps hip in the white house at that time. That means that mark meadows knows everything. Everything that donald trump said and did and ordered other people to do on his behalf and just as importantly everything that he was told about the lack of facts to back up his contention that the election was stolen, yet he continued to act as he did then and as he does now. So the tweet or the post that he put out regarding mark meadows was clearly an attempt to influence and intimidate mark meadow whose we now have every reason to believe hes a witness for the government against donald trump. His conduct is showing you, neil the walls are closing in. The Republican Party needs to look at this and say, no matter what you think of what kind of President Donald Trump was, this is not going to be a pretty campaign if hes the nominee of our party. We need to pull away from the precipice here and picks someone that makes joe biden the focus of the next election, not donald trump. Neil we are learning to your point that the former Chief Of Staff mark meadows has entered into a partial immunity deal with the government. We dont know the details. I was following this list of those that entered plea deals with the government, Sydney Powell and jenna ellis. You can talk about mikecole, his former business partner. Theres a lot of there there. Where do you think it goes . These guys have struck deals for falsely claiming that the 2020 election was stolen. So we know that theyre more inclined to raise issues that could be problematic for the former president. How do you see it . Its really a problem when all of your lawyers have admitted to committing crimes. Thats a problem. Its a problem in two respects. What the hell kind of lawyers were you picking to have around you and the answer to that is only lawyers that would agree with his ridiculous premise that the election was stolen. He couldnt get good lawyers. He told me that himself in December Of 2020 that he had a hard time getting any good lawyers to work for him. He wanted to know why that was. At the time what i said to him, theres two reasons. One, you dont listen to advice and two, you dont pay your bills. Lawyers arent going to work for somebody that does either of those let alone both. This is a guy that only picked these lawyers now that are obviously admitting to committing crimes. Thats problem one. The other problem with that is that theres no longer any Attorney Client privilege with him if part of those discussions were in the midst of committing crimes. Theres something called the Crime Fraud Exception to Attorney Client privilege. The fact is these folks will be able to talk about everything that they discussed with him and just as importantly everything he was told by people like Pat Cipollone and bill barr who have testified that they told him that he had no basis to be doing any of this stuff. One of them warned, youre going to be spending the rest of your life in courtrooms and around lawyers if you continue this. They were prophetic. Neil you have an ad right now featuring president zelensky of ukraine. The clear message is that you support these countries and the battle dealing with terror and sinister interests. But youre in a party right now where that is not universally felt. Theres many of your colleagues running for president that dont share that support for ukraine or certainly overdoing it when it comes to israel. What do you think of that . Leadership, neil, real leadership, is the job of trying to convince people that the position youre taking is the right one for them and for our country. Its not just about reading polls. Responding to polls. Unfortunately thats what you see a number of the people running for president including donald trump doing. The fact is this is a dangerous world where the chinese are not following any polls about whether they should be supporting russia in the wash against ukraine. The russians are not following any polls in russia about that invasion. The iranians are not following any polls about whether they should support hamas or give Drone Technology to the russians to attack the ukrainian homeland. Our adversaries are not doing that. We cannot do it either. We play a special place in the world. If we vacate that place, the chinese, the russians, the iranians and the North Koreans will fill that vacuum. That will make it a more dangerous world and autocratic world where democracy goes to slowly die. Neil i mention it because mike johnson, the new speaker, has expressed concern about more ukrainian aid. Hes among those and a growing number in the house and some amongst your president ial candidates that we dont want to pour good money after bad. What would you say to the new speaker and to others . What i would say is when you spend 5 of your annual Pentagon Budget supporting ukraine and they have degraded 50 of the Russian Military hardware, that that is a pretty good investment. What you dont have to send american Men And Women to ukraine despite the fact that in 1992, when the United States asked ukraine to send Nuclear Missiles back to russia after the fall of the soviet union and we promised them if your territorial integrity was breached we would protect you. Were violating that promise. They stood up to their promise and returned Nuclear Weapons to russia. Were not standing up completely to our end of the promise. We need to do that. If we dont, our other ally theres the world will question whether our promises are worth anything. That makes the promise a much more dangerous space. Let the will of the house be done. Alexis mcadams has more in new york. Weve been watching these campus wide walkouts today including at nyu and new york city at columbia university. Here at Washington Square park, we saw it fill up with hundreds of people that told me they were here to stand with the palestinian people. I tried to talk with many people in the crowd. They didnt want anything to do with me. I talked to one students that didnt want to be identified. He said shes the groups liaison and said why its so important for people to be on the ground. Watch. Support their tactics. Their tactics do nose to liberate palestinians. Im more concerned about the palestinians that are being murdered. For every one that has been killed, 23 palestinians have been killed. Im more concerned about that. So jewish students on call pus say when they hear things like that and they see the Campus Protests and the campus walkouts, they dont feel safe here. They want the school to speak up and do more. Watch. Theres justice for Palestine Rally that is going on. Weve had one almost every single day here. They genuinely dont make us feel safe. We respect everybodys ability to protest, freedom of speech. But when the chants turn in to gas the jews, its hard to be a jew on campus. These large protests happening across the country and in new york today. Over at nyu and columbia, students encouraging others to walk out of calling on the United States to withdraw from israel. Over at George Washington university, theyve had issues, too. Social media posts theres these big messages displayed on outside of the library. One read glory to martyrs. The school established a task force to support students that are experiencing doxing and harassment after they signed on to a statement that said that israel is entirely responsible for all of the violence happening as of now. So back out here live in Washington Square park, take a live look, this is where were expecting to see a pro israeli rally about noon tomorrow. I was thinking of these protests and what you said a few days ago calling on the United States to revoke visas for foreign students receive to be in this country. If they havent, just revoke them if theyre part of these antiisraeli protests. You still stand by that . Well, certainly let me clarify what i said. What i said was, when we have students on campuses that are actually encouraging jewish genocide who are advocating for murder and supporting terrorism, those students should be expelled from the campus and those folks who are on visas should be deported from our country. I stand by that without any question. Im not being hyperbolic then or now. Any time you encourage for the genocide, the elimination of an entire race of people or support terrorism and encourage murder, there should be consequences. It should be consequences for those students and should be consequences for those universities. Back in 2016, i worked on legislation to eliminate the antisemitism we see on college campuses. Things have gotten worse, not better. Jewish students dont feel safe on their own campuses. Thats a problem that we need to focus on. My legislation now helps us get there. If i was were president , i would simply sign the legislation that forces these universities and colleges to take back control of their college campuses. Let me ask you as were on the israeli war, senator. You argued that maybe when it comes to aid, we would have to Reshift Our Focus and attention from ukraine. I dont want to misquote you to israel. You would call the 106 bill plan intended to help both countries bad. That it was a bad deal. What did you mean by that . Well, the 106 billion that focuses more on ukraine than it does the immediate threat to our ally in The Middle East, israel, is wrong directed. The focus should be on israel. We should have a standalone package for israel. We know that that would unite the vast majority of the house and the senate. The president could sign it. We should provide israel with a clear picture of a unified america in support of their efforts to eliminate hamas as a threat for the rest of israels existence, which requires the wiping hamas off the map, this is a clear consistent and concise message from america to our ally, israel. We should deal with ukraine separately. If we did that, you would have the kind of support from congress that does send a clear message to the world, we are loyal to our allies and we will be lethal to our adversaries. Neil your fellow south carolinian, nickki haley does not agree with that. She says be tough and supportive of both. Ukraine and israel. You say . Well, listen, i will simply say that its important for us to focus on israel now. We have provided over 100 billion over the last two years to ukraine. I have supported resources for ukraine. We also need the kind of Account Ability in the ukraine funding that we dont need today in the israeli funding. Why not bifurcate the matter, keep america focused on the Current Situation and we can continue to manage to resources and the Account Ability. Frankly, the third thing we have to do, neil, is to focus on our southern border. The one thing i can tell you is that the people who have crossed our border from yemen, syria, iran, iraq, number in the thousands. As a result of that, our own National Security assessment puts us more vulnerable than weve ever been in the last several years. By having the resources for our southern border, having focused on israel and then continuing to have the kind of management and the accountability necessary to support ukraine, do it separately so the American People see clarity and leadership and accountability on all three fronts.
