How are things where you are today, mike . Dana, despite all the rage in the region, the activity here at the gaza strip has been kind of light. The rocket fire coming out of gaza has been light relative to previous days. We saw an air strike go into the gaza strip. Nothing like weve seen in previous days. Israel Defense Force is trying to combat the initial narrative that the explosion at the hospital which resulted in hundreds of civilian deaths was the responsibility of israel. The idf saying clearly that in no Uncertain Terms they believe it was caused by an Islamic Jihad Rocket Barrage aimed at israel. One of the rockets hit short of its target and hit the hospital. There are several videos that seem to show just that with the lights going up in the sky and straight line. Those are the rockets, an explosion in the foreground if you will. That being the hospital. This coming from a number of different Security Cameras in the area. In addition to that, the idf has now released what they say is an intercepted call between two hamas operatives acknowledging that the explosion was indeed caused by Islamic Jihad. [speaking native language] hamas checked the reports and it was a Islamic Jihad rocket that had misfired and decided to launched a Global Media Campaign to hide what really happened. They went as far as inflating the numbers of casualties. The Palestinian Health ministries hasnt released the Civilian Casualties other than they are in the hundreds. The number of palestinian dead in the response to the October 7th Massacre is upwards of 3400 palestinians who have been killed. The initial narrative that went out immediately after the explosion that it was the result of an israeli air strike took hold and spread around the region. There hasnt been much acknowledgement for evidence presented to the contrary. That is why you see hamas calling for an unprecedented day of rage. A leader of hamas who used to be based in the gaza strip is stating that the arab nation needs to stand as one and iran saying ominously, as we get all of this rocket fire from lebanese border, that time is running out for israel. Dana. Dana mike, give us an update what do we know, what are they hearing and talking about in terms of the hostages . Had a conversation with the mother of a hostage yesterday. She said simply that she learned that her daughter was still alive when hamas released that video. I talked with a father of a hostage or at least a missing person who is american today and says they are frustrated because they arent getting enough communication. It all becomes very delicate in terms of releasing information even if you release information to families, because there are so many families that can produce leaks and can inhibit the delicate balance of a hostage negotiation. The people are not receiving Family Members and loved ones arent receiving as much information as they would like and very frustrated. But it does appear in acknowledging the number of confirming the number of hostages that there is some communication going on with the captors but is not making its way to the families. Today i ask the Israeli Cabinet who i met with to agree to lifesaving assistance to civilians in gaza based on the understanding there will be inspections and the aid should go to civilians, not hamas. Israel agreed humanitarian assistance can begin to move from egypt to gaza. Let me be clear, if hamas diverts or steals assistance, it will end. As a practical matter well stop the International Community from being able to provide this aid. Were working in close cooperation with egypt and the u. N. Like the World Program and other partners to get trucks moving across the border as soon as possible. Separately, i ask israel that the Global Community demand the International Red cross be able to visit hostages. I have just demanded the United States fully a just demand that the United States fully supports. I am also announcing 1 Hundred Million in new u. S. Funding for human karan assistance in gaza and the west bank. The money will support more than 1 million displaced palestinians including Emergency Needs in gaza. You are a jewish state. You are a jewish state, you are also a democracy. Like the United States, you dont live by the rules of terrorists. You live by the rule of law. And when conflicts flair, you live by the law of wars. What sets us apart from the terrorists is we believe in the fundamental dignity of every human life. Israeli, palestinian, arab, jew, muslim, christian, everyone. You cant give up what makes you who you are. If you give that up, the terrorists win and we can never let them win. Israel is a miracle, a triumph of faith and resolve and resilience over impossible pain and loss. Think about october 7th, the jewish holiday, when you read about the death of moses. A tragic loss to an entire nation. A death that could have left hopelessness in the hearts of an entire nation. But though moses died his memories and lessons have lived on for generations of the jewish people as well as many others. Just as the memory of your loved ones will live on as well. After reading the story of moses death they began reading the torah from the very beginning. The story of creation, reminds us of two things. First, when we get knocked down, we get back up again. We begin anew. And second, when we are faced with tragedy and loss we must go back to the beginning and remember who we are. We are all human beings created in the image of god with dignity, humanity and purpose. In the darkest to be the light onto the world is what were about. You inspire hope and light for so many around the world. Thats what the terrorists seek to destroy. Thats what they seek to destroy. Because they live in darkness but not you. Not israel. He talked about understanding the rage that they feel but that he urged them not to let rage consume you. He also went through a long list of the things he will be asking congress for. He again reiterated to the adversaries of israel and the United States to not get involved. He used the word dont once again. He talked about asking for the red cross to be allowed to visit the hostages, as well as 100 million in aid request for gaza and the west bank and he said as i bring in pete hegseth, he said if this aid is stolen by hamas, the aid will end. He finalized his speech by saying that terrorists live in darkness, terrorists will not win, freedom will win and that israel will continue to be a vibrant and Jewish Democratic nation. Pete hegseth. A way for me to sum up the speech. Your reaction to it now. Good summary. I want to sit here cheering the good things that joe biden said about americas support for israel. He did say some good things. This entire trip feels like the almost a smothering. Antony blinken in the war room for seven hours and joe biden saying we know you have been attacked but restrain yourselfs. Dont react too much. When you Say Something like if hamas diverts aid. If, its when. Thats what they do. They control the aid agencies in gaza, hamas does. He is announcing more aid to gaza and the west bank. You had a conversation with mark levin where iran is able to sell weapons around the region. Calling for peace and two state solution. He is living without the realization of the evidence in front of us. That land for peace has been a terror state to israels border and israel has to do something about it. They cant, by the way, until joe biden leaves because if the president of the United States is there and you open a land war in gaza, it opens up the possibility of other things as well. There will be more of it because whether we like it or not the world i remember in iraq after the bombing of the mosque, the golden mosque, i was there that morning when it happened during the iraq war. From the mosques we knew quickly it was Al Qaeda In Iraq that had perpetuated that attack. From the mosques they blamed the crusaders and jews. Except for the jews in our units there were no jews living in iraq. This is always the way they blame. They blame the west. They blame the Big Satan And Little satan. Now is not a time for equivocation. Now is a time to send clear messages with our ambassadors that if a hair on the head of an american is harmed you will play for that to include you, hezbollah, hamas and iran. Not to make this partisan. This is a very different approach. The Defense Department is giving israel the ability to use american weapons with a wide latitude. We did not put any preconditions on israel when it comes to using our security assistance. Governments like us are what separate ourselves from hamas. We certainly expect israel, as with any ally or partner, to uphold the law of war. The 26th Marine Expedition Unit and 2,000 marines and sailors is moving closer to israel through the red sea. Pentagon said the unit can execute amphibious missions, engage in limited contingency operations. Officials say this unit doesnt have orders. The president or Defense Secretary can change that. The pentagon says it is giving 2,000 troops the order to prepare to move out 24 hours notice. That order has not yet been given but it allows the administration some latitude if it feels it whats to boost the american presence in the region. Bill thanks. In fact through the last 24 hours, dana. This morning we saw a large group of protestors approaching the approach to the u. S. Embassy in a sense. Now this is not we should point out outside the u. S. Embassy itself. There is a very new just finished u. S. Embassy compound that sits on a hill above beirut. Really is if you think of a medieval for the draft it is like that. It is not easy for the protestors to get to. The road that they are on there leads up to that hill. You saw earlier today members of the Lebanese Military come down that hill around that corner confront those protestors and scatter them. I dont think there is a doubt in anybodys mind that theyll be back at some point. The u. S. So often a target in lebanon. We only need to go back 1983. 40 years ago next monday, october 23rd, the Marine Barracks bombing that killed 300. The u. S. Embassy itself in beirut was attacked with a bomb. Around 70 people died that. The u. S. Often a target in lebanon. You go back to 2006. We know what a tineder box lebanon is. The headquarters for hezbollah, the terror group thats even better armed than hamas, even more tightly controlled by iran than hamas. And hezbollah has been fighting these skirmishs across the border with israel in the last few weeks. This is what happened in 2006. The pictures you are looking at. This is the Barracks Bombing in 1983. Israel and hezbollah fought a monthlong war in 2006. It cost a lot of lives and the great concern is that this could spark again. Lebanon is always such a frackous place and given to violent outbreaks. You can bet the u. S. Authorities are watching closely and the crowds try to get as close as they can to the u. S. Embassy. And dana, we only need to remember, of course, as well benghazi, libya, to see and remember the kind of things that these sort of protests, that begin with people throwing stones, waving flags, what it can turn into, dana. The sense i got when i was in israel people are terrified. The normal Security Operators that people have so much faith in seems to have failed them. A terrific fear that things could kick off in the north leaving israel vulnerable. And President Biden seems to be saying the things that netanyahu isnt. He is putting an arm around israel saying things will be okay. We have your back. From israelis across the political spectrum who i met over the last week there is a real sense of relief that President Biden seems to be taking this so personally and so seriously as demonstrated by his visit there today. I think relief in this unprecedented moment of israel feeling more vulnerable than any point in its existence. Gillian the pentagon and white house and Defense Department has been talking about preventing this war between israel and gaza from becoming a bigger regional conflict. But the reality is that weve already seen hezbollah launch rockets across the border. Antiamerican and antiisrael protests erupted like wildfire across the middle east last night. Has that ship already sailed . I dont think so. I think it sails when you see hezbollah really stepping up. There are some salvos going back and forth. Hezbollah with ten times the arsenal of hamas with the full backing of iran do choose to engage, that will radically shift the situation. Rockets coming from hamas in the south again its business as usual to some extent for israel but to have hezbollah unleash its huge arsenal from the north would be conceivably a game changer. Thats probably why america, britain and other nations are deploying troops to the area. This is different. This really isnt business as usual. Gillian i want to ask you this question. A lot of people have different interpretations. Why do you think President Biden is there on the ground right now . What do you think is behind that decision despite the Security Risk . I think he has a genuine history and affection for israel that goes back throughout his time as a senator. I think he when you see photographs of what happened on the ground. I was in kibbutz area last week, scene of a massacre. I was outside a house where eight babies were burned to death. When you see these things. Im sure President Biden has seen lots of things that isnt in the public, you cant help but be emotionally drawn into this. I think President Biden is reacting to what he has seen and he has come over to say at this time of modern day things taking place, that america has your back. By also coming over and Holding Israel in the tight embrace, he is probably thinking it is a chance to moderate some of the israeli reaction to insure that it operates as far as possible to minimize where possible palestinian Civilian Casualties.
