Tim scott, i think he has got a very positive message i like donald trump. I voted for him. This time around its iffy. Trump is the only one that can get us out of this mess we gotten into. Iowa voters not surprised that former President Donald Trump came outer on top on the new latest power rankings. Maybe desantis but im Still Standing with trump. Florida Governor Ron Desantis remains in second place, though recent polls show that gap between him and trump is widening. And in most national polls, South Carolina senator tim scott is a distant third. I just dont think he is as wellknown unless you have really been following the senate. Right now scott the only other candidate to poll double dignity support in more than one state according to fox polls. The people are excited about an optimistic, positive message anchored in conservatism as long as you have a backbone. You do not have to be angry to win people over to a conservative proposition. Right now, Vivek Ramaswamy, nikki haley, and mike pence listed as in the conversation. I like mr. Pence, but i know he is running behind quite a ways. The thing that i have come to realize though traveling around the country is im wellknown but i dont think im known well. A new Fox News National survey shows half a dozen republican candidates are within striking distance of beating president joe biden. I would like to get a candidate that can succeed in beating biden. We just need to get it done this year. And, bret, every potential candidate and candidate we talked to here on the ground continues to point out that it is still early in this race, except for donald trump. Because he is sitting at the top, according to those new rankings. It wont be too early for long, thanksgiving, christmas, and before you know it will be caucus time here in iowa. Bret . Number one the epidemic not of covid but of fatherlessness. 70 of black kids today enter the World Without a father in the home married to the mother. Up from 25 back in 1965. In fact 25 of white kids now enter the World Without a father in the home married to the mother. The numbers are stark. Obama even quoted them once. When you are raised without a dad five times be poor and commit crime. Nine times more likely to odrop out of school, 20 times more likely to drop out of jail. What happened in the mid 60s when a democrat with the best of intentions launched a socalled war on poverty. Incentivized women to marry the government and incentivized men to abandon financial and moral responsibility you have to talk about the facts. People dont realize the damage done when you bring a child in the world that you are not prepared to feed, clothe, house and educate. We need to talk about the problem before we can solve it. Government cant solve it. Government created the problem. The answer is every one of these kids need mentors. I liken it to alcoholic anonymous, they need to have a male role model in his or her life whether thats a grandfather or a neighbor or a pastor or a teacher, somebody. And the money that we are spending at the federal level for poverty programs arent working. Taxpayers should be able to direct that money for programs in their own neighborhoods. Specifically churches doing this kind of work. Bret you know democrats who are proabortion rights boo say is thats part of what theyre talking about, about Family Planning and being able to control their body. Thats what they would say. But that doesnt fit into what you are talking about. No. Im talking about kids who come into the World Without a father in the home married to the mother. You know, in 1940, 87 of blacks lived below poverty, 20 years later, 1960s the number had fallen to 47. 40 point drop. The largest period of economic expansion in history for black america. Why . Because it was rare for a black child to be raised without a father. Its the number one social problem facing this country. Abortion is a whole separate issue. I happen to be prolife. But the prolife community is not only talking the talk but they are walking the walk. There are thousands of Pregnancy Centers all over america that provide adoption services, that provide counseling that, provide job training, housing, all sorts of things. People, women have choices and our side is giving them choices. You still feel that way. First of all im not running against donald trump. Bret in this primary. Im running against biden harris. We are all auditioning for the job thats how i see it. If donald trump becomes the nominee as appears likely right now i will as did i in 2016 and 2020 support him. I will campaign for him if asked to do so. There is a two Tiered System of justice. My goodness, hillary got a pass for violating the Espionage Act by having unsecured server in her basement. Joe biden clearly has been, in my opinion, compromised. Only recently has there been a special counsel appointed. Same guy gave hunter biden the sweetheart deal. This is incredibly unfair. And donald trump gets indicted for having documents. Joe biden had documents four or five different places. There is a special counsel but supposedly he turned over the documents and donald trump did not do that; therefore, it seems to me the investigation should have been concluded a long time ago. New york state senator jim says the crush is out of control. Its going to be hundreds of millions of dollars of local taxpayers cost that were not prepared for that are going to be in place now because they decided to kick the can down the road and use these individuals as pawns on the chess board. Three hours north of new york city near albany the School District is beefing up by adding Teacher Assistants who speak spanish and specialists who can teach english as a second language. The district has under 3,000 students and has enrolled 70 Migrant Children who were bussed to the area. Superintendent Shannon Shine says current patients should be reassured. Their children are safe and well and will be wellprovided for. We wont diminish services to them. We wont see spikes in class sizes. And that, you know, kind of all is well. Public schools in new york city start september 7th, and now three weeks out, officials still do not know just how many Migrant Students will be in the classrooms. Bret in . Apparently presents a large and expensive problem for many people. Senior correspondent Casey Stegall explains from el paso, texas. On a blazing hot summer day piles of steel beams sit unused on a new mexico ranch on the southern border. There is a huge amount of Taxpayer Waste here. Russell johnson says this material has been on his cattle ranch for more than two and a half years after President Biden took office and halted construction of the border wall and there is nothing he can legally do about it. If i ran my business like a the federal government has run this project i would be broke. Under President Trump the feds approved 15 billion to build approximately 740 miles of border barrier. Contracts were secured, supplies were purchased; however, only 400 and 50 miles were completed before the plug was pulled. We are talking somewhere around 2 billion worth of materials that have just been sitting down there. Last month the Army Corps Of Engineers told a joint Homeland Security subcommittee there are close to 21,000 unused panels at various sites. Were looking at 160,000 a month for the storage of the material. Corps says its in the process of removing exset wall materials. Whats not clear, how much is being repurposed and whats being thrown away. None of the witnesses here can tell us how much of the american taxpayers precious dollars spent on first quality goods have been disposed of as scrap. Russell johnson also testified at that hearing personally inviting lawmakers to his ranch. He didnt cut the federal debt. The debt actually went up in the Biden Administration 3. 5 trillion. Over 31 trillion now. You all are working across the aisle on financial matters. Tell me how Congress Gets their head around this from both sides of the aisle . Frankly, starting the conversation or maybe restarting the conversation has been a big challenge. Obviously, we have been spending a lot of money over the last number of years coming into covid. Coming out of kody. But, you know, we have got to find some Common Ground here. And i have got some constituents to be honest that dont think we ought to have been having that conversation. I get told on occasion you shouldnt be talking to these people et cetera, et cetera. I always say to them look, if we are not having the conversation, how are we supposed to figure out whether we agree on 5 , 15 , or 50 there are things we know looming here for example 2023 there is going to be a cut to Social Security it. Is a conversation we need to have. Bret Congressman Peters what about that, we are facing another fiscal cliff come september, how can you guys Work Together to avoid that . Well, i think we have to. I mean, the thing about bill and i realize that this has been an issue thats been developed over time. Its not just the democrat or republican issue. Both parties have been voting for funding our ongoing expenses with debt. And President Trump bears his share as well. The deficit he set the record for the most debt added for single term before. This we are for getting past that blame and looking at each other and figuring out how do we get this country on a sustainable fiscal path. The house will be in order. Of the fact that we are spending more on interest than defense, we already spend more money on interest than our children. Bret listen, i have been covering washington for a long time there hasnt been a real hunger for dealing with the debt. We both both parties to your point, Congressman Peters, have been spending a ton. Now we dealt with the pandemic and both administrations dealt with that but the last time the debt, the National Debt ever decreased was 1957. Most times cuts in washington, d. C. Deal with slowing increases. Congressmannizeening. There has got to be a different mindset up there completely. Unfortunately we have some folks that dont see it as a problem. They think as long as we can keep ahead and keep up on those interest payments, it doesnt really matter what we spend. And, to me, thats just wrongheaded. Im a Small Business person. Three generations my family has been involved in done destruction. I know how to read a p and l sheet. And its math, bret. At the end of the day, this is simply math and the math isnt adding up. Bret Bipartisan Fiscal Forum and i applaud you for trying to find Common Ground but, you know, congress has been at this for a long time. There are structures and committees. But you have to create Something Else to try to get around what has been years and years of spending. Im wondering, you know, we went through simpsonbowles, Congressman Peters, that was an idea that everybody could get their head around but it never got across the finish line. Do you guys see some big thing thats going to change the dynamic . The big thing is the debt. And both parties have been complicit in not really paying attention to the longterm Effect Borrowing to pay our ongoing expenses. I think not only is it elected officials and the structure that comes out of Government Operations that need to realize this but citizens. Citizens have to understand what this means and they have to have being heard whether its at the state level or federal level. They have got to make sure that those of us that do end up on the ballot have an understanding that they arent happy with the situation that will motivate. Bret both of you really quickly to wrap up. When you hear somebody say its all partisanship on capitol hill and you cant really get anything done, what could you say . Congressman peters and then congressmannizeening again. Bill and i see we are problem solvers, you cant solve any big problem in Congress Without democrats and republicans. You basically need 60 votes in the senate nor anything. You have two people here leading a group of Significant Group to really deal with this in a bipartisan way. That he was the way it should be done. It drops three points but Governor Desantis dropped six. Can you see a move by Vivek Ramaswamy up to 11 in this poll. The Vice President , form are Vice President mike pence at 5 . Another poll came out today, the Associated Press poll asking voters who they would not support would definitely or probably would not support as the partys nominee. Joe biden 54 . 63 would not support, probably or definitely donald trump. So, with those two polls and everybody says you focus too much on polls. But what is happening on the ground there . There is a lot of candidates now spending time there. Yeah. There is no question and donald trump is dominance in this field in New Hampshire. And the question is are any of the other candidates going to start to emerge and resonate with voters in the state and what im hearing from both people in New Hampshire and meetings here in washington, d. C. Today that your debate coming up on the 23rd may actually not win know the field but may actually increase it. Im hearing about brian kemp. Im hearing about glenn youngkin. Bret governor of georgia and governor of virginia. Yes. And the potential for those two to get into the race. I thought kemps tweet in sphiewns President Trumps claims about georgia was interesting and was youngkins ad earlier seemed like a national ad a month ago as opposed to an ad that was focused specifically on the state election. Bret just to interrupt you. Where do they see the vacuum . Where do they see the road that they take . They see the vacuum that no one else is resonating with voters. And if someone is going to defeat donald trump they feel it has to be someone that comes into the race and has the ability to move upwards. Desantis has been steadily dropping. You look at your poll, even more so the polls within iowa and New HampshireShow Desantis coming back to the pack. Tim scott moving up. Vivek ramaswamy resonating with voters. And a lot of folks felt that the desantis was going to be the person and he has not resonated so far. Bret speaking of desantis, a certain talk show had him on today, guy benson. And we were talking about the Trump Truth Social Talking About Press Conference he is having monday where he says he is going to lay out all of this election evidence and is he going to provide it very complete and detailed in his truth social post and here is ron desantis on your show talking about that. If we are fighting about what happened in 2020 or january 6th, 2021, if that is what the election ends up about, joe biden is going to be hanging out in his basement in delaware again, not a care in the world. And republicans are going to lose. Bret what did you think about that . Its hard to argue with it. Im not going to say definitively that trump couldnt win a general election. I think he could. Especially if the economy is in the toilet, which it might be next year. But, overall, as you look at especially the numbers from the Associated Press poll that you highlighted at the beginning ever the segment, bret, the vast majority of independents in this country and swing voters poll after 308 has shown and Election Results have shown they are over all the relitigation, stop the steal, 2020, january 6th, looking back. They dont want any part of that. And for donald trump to win a general election, its going to be a huge challenge if the Election Cycle is dominated by the democrats, by the media and in some respects by trump with these backward looking discussions of something that is absolutely radioactive to most voters. Bret impossible not to go back to discussions because legal cases are in your face. If all goes as planned, january 2nd could be the first trial on the january 6th issue 13 days before the iowa caucuses. Its certainly going to be a pop pick of conversation and the president has made clear that he has no plans to move on from that discussion while he has offered other issues to talk about the economy, for example and things, of course, could change with joe bidens legal troubles as well given the hunter biden plea deal fell apart and they wanted that to be behind them so they could move forward thinking they could have a clean slate. On the issue of another republican governor possibly jumping into this, i think there is this deep misunderstanding from the donor class with the trump base and who can actually pull that off. They have to be careful about bloodying up republican candidates as they have done with ron desantis who was convinced to get into this race. He has not done well. He was offered as alternative to trump. He has not been able to do it. Especially given the Trump Campaign is very successful at showing that they think that desantis owes him for his position as governor in florida. The person who has actually benefited from that is either ram as we have seen in this polling. He is moving up and poll 3 off of trump. Pulling from the desantis folks and he actually does understand what the base wants and argues he is a good alternative. You may not bridge the gap of trump being ahead by 30, 40 points, but he is an option that people are looking at. Bret he says yes to every interview request, it seems. He does a lot of posting on social media and online. Here is former Vice President pence on the upcoming debate in milwaukee. I have debated donald trump a thousand times. [laughter] just not with the cameras on. Look, i do hope he comes. I hope we have a wholesome debate. I hope its the beginning of a vigorous debate about the future of the country. Bret and he has been popping into iowa more but New Hampshire as well. I think katie makes a great point about entrance into this race. We have seen it with rick perry, democratic side with mike bloomberg, Fred Thompson on down the road. The fact that they are talking about it doesnt mean they are going to be successful. But, there is a thirst and desire for Something Else. And whether the debate creates an environment in which candidates rise up or other candidates come in, its a Pivotal Moment in this campaign.
