What happens here is with this isolated island out here in the middle of the pacific, its just so visual. Helicopters, planes and boats. People stepping up, logistics to solve the problems in one of the most isolated places on earth when there is, quite honestly a failure of leadership. But people dont kind of forget at the perfect storm, if you will, of what happened. Because there was a hurricane to the south. 60, 70, 80 Miles Per Hour winds. It was spreading the fire one mile per minute. It was that fast. And the local firefighters were tapping into the hydrants. But because of the drought, the hydrants were running dry. Will you know, so, steve, you are absolutely right. First of all, there was 80 mileperhour winds that day. Again, as you guys well know. My family was here that day. Power went out that morning high winds. Knocking down trees. Before the fire started you saw trees toppled over on top of cars. Perfect storms with power lines fall down. Never under estimate the incompetence in these types of situations. Bad things happen but there is also a role for good people. Aparchtly the fire first set off 4 45 p. M. If you will go on to social media. You will see video of people in the Water Jumping over on front street at 5 30 p. M. That means the fire has ripped through lahaina, surrounded them to the north and to the south. Theres no place for them to go within 45 minutes but into the ocean. Ainsley we talked to one lady, im not sure if you were able to hear that interview. She lives there. Her name is camille soriano. We talked to her after you interviewed tulsi gabbard. She had some friends that had to jump into the water. They had to tread water for five hours before they felt it was safe to get out. They are doing okay. She lost everything. She rounded up her mom. Her grandchild. Her brother is out of town at a funeral in the philippines and so she was taking care of his animals. They have 10 animals together. So she had to gather them up. It sounded like an interview. I believe it was hard to understand this one portion because she was very emotional. Sounded like she said she lost two of her Furry Friends in the fire. But heres a little bit of that interview with her, will. Hold on. Lets just listen to that and we will coming back to you. We didnt have any of the signs or warnings whatsoever. But we could see ourselves that the fires were just blowing so fast. We dont want to be trapped. You know. I do have my mom who is 91 years old with me and i also do have brand new grandson that just turned 2 months old that day. So i just made sure that i had the secure them in the car get out of lahaina and me and my husband were the actually the last people to leave our area because we have like sorry, 10 i10 fur babies to transport. Its been four or five days now but you know what . I dont even know what i need. I just need everyone, i guess, to include us in your prayers. I dont know whats next for us. I mean, the future right now is very uncertain for us. Will, she goes to an Historic Catholic Church there. And it did not burn. Most of everything around it she said did. Will people havent talked about that. Thats another travesty in this story as well. Back to the water, ainsley. I was told tonight hundreds, hundreds of people in the water. Children, 88yearold woman in the water for Something Like 5 to 7 hours those people along with people who did not make it meaning floating bodies all there together while flames and smoke poured over their heads. The stories you played. I keep hearing people handing off babies to one another. Carrying a baby. I had a 2 and a halfyearold kid. I dont know who it was i held a 2 and a halfyearold child as we ran from the flames. Ainsley family vacation. All three of us have been there on vacation. And he told me a story that he feels reflects how god and for that matter his wife i know you not only lost your church but home as well. Where were you the day the fire broke out. The fire was heading down towards my house and people were already coming through trying to get homes. Homes are already on fire. So we just grabbed the kids, grab our dog, grabbed whatever we could, and we made it to front street. I was going to turn right to head deeper into lahaina. Turn left we have to get out of here. When i turned left the car that was behind me turned right and at that moment got swallowed up in black smoke. Do you think it came down to going left or right for you . Had you gone right been a different story. When we woke up that morning you almost took the wrong turn and it would have cost me my family. Do you want them not using it in the evening, not until a certain time you have to be consistent as a parent to make sure that kids are ready for school. Ainsley what do you recommend . I recommend no more than an hour and a half. Ainsley okay. Steve both parents have got to be on the same page. Ainsley so easy when you have little ones because you can prepare dinner while they are watching a mother. Dont want to be that mom. Sometimes you just need a little bit of a break. Hour and a half max. Best thing to could is to get kids to read that is the single most important impact on their educational success. Ainsley do you have any tips . Yes. All kids. You got turn off the tv. Turn off the xbox. Turn off the tiktok, the instagram. And give your child a book. Even little kids should be able to read for 15 minutes straight. If they are older, in middle school, 30 to 45 minutes a day. It will do wonders for their academic success. Brian what about when two bed used to staying up to midnight. Thats a problem. They have to get on a bedtime routine schedule. In the summer, you know, kids are on a different schedule. Thats okay. But you need to start getting your kid to bed early. Because they have to wake up early. Steve so you back time it. You figure how much sleep does my kid need . What time am i going to get up and then you back time it. When lights are off.
