Flying into maui earlier in the evening we saw the flames from our airplane window. A harrowing sight. You are supposed to drop into paradise. Unfortunately This Is Hell On Earth for so many people. Luckily the Fire Activity has died down. Behind us we have a group of firefighters keeping tabs on one hot spot making sure it doesnt get Out Of Control. So many people hurting on the island of maui at this hour. It is still unclear how the fires started on tuesday. But when they did, this island was a tinderbox. Things were so incredibly dry and winds were whipping in part due to Hurricane Doria doria, Winter Gusting the flames and it made it so difficult for firefighters to put out the flames. We had firefighting helicopters grounded because they couldnt fly with such high winds. We have communities in the western part of maui devastated. Especially in the community of lahaina. A special community to so many people. Historic, beautiful. Residents now say it is unrecognizable. Listen. Im a resident of lahaina for 18 years. We had the worst disaster ive ever seen. It is burnt to a crisp. It is like an apocalypse. Search and rescue efforts are still underway. Right now again 36 people confirmed dead. There has been a massive effort to get people off the island. So far around 11,000 people have been flown out of here. There have been shelters set up on maui as well as oahu and locals alike for people to go to. Dana officials asking people if you have Vacation Plans there, to put them off. They dont want anymore people coming to the island. Max gordon, thank you so much. Bill talk about paradise. Want to give a greater sense of the islands of hawaii. You might be most familiar with honolulu where you find pearl harbor and the beach of waikiki. Where max is reporting remember there was a Hurricane Dora800 miles away passed along the Southern Side of hawaii. The outer bands kicked up winds as high as 80 milesanhour. Once that fire started going there was no way to stop this. The winds are hitting here from the northeast and this is the island of maui here in the center. What exactly is Rosemont Seneca partners or Rosemont Seneca bow high . The transaction from the russian oligarch, if you look at the transaction itself, you will see 3. 5 million moving coming inbound from russia and moves in two transactions to devon archer and one of Hunter Bidens companies. That almost dollar for dollar. That is signature of a problem. He says people sometimes create Shell Companies, then they transfer money through those firms. That makes it hard to track. I think it was Seneca Thornton partners if i have the name directly. That was one of the top tier what i call a top tier. There are 1 or 2 companies that start the transactions or that are controlling and if you start with those and then follow it all the way down, thats where you will start to get more information. He then says the question to ask is what did these firms do . Did they provide a good, service or make anything . The purpose of some of the firms was quote, consulting and why republicans believe the key service was access to the president. They didnt do anything. They used joe biden. What were seeing is joe biden actually provided things of value in return for that money. It is hard to keep criticizing these things because through 2016 he did the same thing and all along the way he kept leading. Here is the real issue. Were sitting here today and you will hear all the candidates say its early, its early. It is early. Suddenly a month from now everyone starts hitting the panic button. Here is whats happening. Filing deadlines are coming due by the end of the year meaning states, if you want to run for president , all this talk about democrats running, the filing deadlines to get on the ballots are going to start opening up in october. The second thing, the Iowa Caucuses on january 15th, 50 days later is going to be Super Tuesday. So there are three things these candidates are looking at. They are looking at the debate, what you just talked about and whether you get on that stage or not. If you dont get on that stage you wont have the money or the volunteers. Thats cut number one. Cut two is iowa. If these candidates cannot get come pestive with President Trump, you will have cut number two. Cut number three is a little bit what people arent talking about. Thats the 50 days between iowa and Super Tuesday. What do you need to make it . You need money and you need volunteers. You cannot make it to Super Tuesday without either one of those things. So that period of time becomes cut number three. I think that by the time you get out of iowa, New Hampshire, a few weeks after iowa, we will be down to 3 or 4 candidates and thats really what these campaigns are looking at. It comes down to money and the deadlines. Bill you framed it well. The point is once the moment has happened, it goes very quickly. Matt, the problem for democrats, theyve given iowa the heisman, right . Now you have the piece in the Wall Street Journal why democrats lost iowa. They write white rural voters have turned the battleground into a republican stronghold putting it further out of democrats reach. Does that matter within the Democratic Party today . Yeah. It matters quite a bit. The fact that white rural voters abandoned the party is a serious problem and one were addressing as aggressively as we possibly can. When it comes down to the Electoral College map it doesnt matter much at all. Iowa is red and will be red in 2024. Republican will win iowa. No one is confused about that and not important to the biden teams in terms of their path to victory. It is important in the longer term that democrats stop the bleeding with white rural voters and i think there is a lot of effort in that regard. But no one is confused about who will win iowa. I will say in response to reince, all that may be true but i think the problem for republicans is that the entire conversation is exactly where they were hoping it wouldnt be, which is about donald trump. Donald trump is massively ahead. Almost certain to be the nominee. All this is just an addition to be his Vice President. That can be a Poison Chalice as mike pence can tell you.
