giving our enemies a huge gift. our borders being overrun by illegals so how does the by the administration plan to fix it? are they going to fix it? victor davis hanson has a reaction. the ratings for last night's grammys felt like a rock and raymond arroyo watched every grueling moment. he is here to show us why in "seen and unseen." first, biden's road to serfdom. that's the focus of tonight's angle. beware those who trash america as systemically racist and unfair and then claim to hold the most benevolent of motives. >> we cannot have a moral society or a strong economy when so few have some margin so if you have so little. >> i would be delighted to move forward any point. >> america does not suffer from scarcity. we suffer from greed. we can choose to lift the burden of millions of people. we can invest in the future of the american people. >> laura: and she says invest, what she means is the government is going to take money from people who make money and spend it on things they believe will get them more power, meaning the government. none of these folks know the basics of economics. i wouldn't hire them as dog walkers let alone economic planners. printing, borrowing or seizing money from income earners creates neither wealth nor opportunity for others. with the woke takeover of our college campuses and attacks on all things western, i was thinking this today. it's terrifying to think how little so many of our college students know. one book that should be required reading for all freshman, i'm still using the word freshman by the way, "the road to freedom" the austrian british economist and philosopher presented a stunningly powerful case for capitalism and a stinging indictment of socialism writing "the power which of multiple millionaire who may be my neighbor and perhaps my employer has over me is very much less than that which the smallest function air possessions who wields the course of power of the state and whose discretion it depends whether and how i am to be allowed to live or to work." beware the bureaucrac." classical liberalism he was defending his completely at war with today's far left style of liberalism which is better referred to obviously as illiberal. central planning is at the core of biden's plan with the stimulus going far beyond cutting checks individuals. the $1.9 trillion is just a down payment on the road toward european-style socialism. a permanent and much larger welfare state and an endless supply of low-wage migrant workers. when the biden crew tells you that help has arrived, well, it's kind of half-truth and have live. sure, the bill polled well. you take a poll. people get money in the mail. the only thing voters knew for sure was that they are actually getting a check and who doesn't like that? >> you get a car! you get a car! they are coming! >> laura: when we think of help during the crisis, we don't think about needing to pay it back. why should we? but the paper will eventually have to be paid. there is no such thing as a free lunch or free covid stimulus tech. enter the democrats radical wish list of tax hikes galore. the ink is barely dry on the $2 trillion and they are moving onto a multitrillion dollar climate change and infrastructure bill in which they are going to include gargantuan tax increases. on the table, raising corporate taxes from 21% to 28%. of course raising capital gains taxes for many americans, raising the estate tax. raising taxes on millions of small businesses. but remember, they want you to know that this is all going to be great for you. you're not going to feel a thing. >> the president remains committed to his pledge from the campaign that nobody making under $400,000 a year will have their taxes increased. his priority and focus has always been on people paying their fair share and focusing on corporations that may not be paying their fair share either. >> middle-class or brca families are playing more than their fair share. >> laura: classic left-wing sleight-of-hand. are you not sick of that? every single american is going to feel the pain of the tax increase. he is not robin hood. he's robbing you. what you think is going to happen corporate taxes once again you hiked to 20%? you think we might lose jobs to the lower tax countries? here's a list if biden gets his way u.s. companies are going to be paying more than those in the u.k., canada, ireland, and china. doesn't take a nobel prize-winning economist to figure out that this is no recipe for bringing jobs back and investment into the country. on the other hand, this is a great deal for europe and china. as businesses flee the u.s., of course what does that mean? our economy is going to shrink. days ago the wharton school at u penn updated its analysis of biden's tax plan and found they will retract the economy through 2050. earnings will also go down. democrats have a lot more tax tricks up their sleeves. they are seriously considering a mileage tax. how many miles you drive. that's going to be great for rural and suburban americans. a gun and ammo taxes being considered. and of course their old standby, the carbon tax. >> what i would recommend for the united states that hopefully we will in the years ahead go in this direction is simply to put in place a carbon tax. >> putting a price on carbon can be done to the whole bunch of different ways. >> do it the progressive basis. >> laura: perhaps the most insidious aspect of biden's tax agenda is his plan to destroy the ability of many americans to build intergenerational well. when most americans hear estate tax, what do they think? is just for rich people. who cares of their kids get to inherit a lot of money. well, this is wrong on two fronts. the government has no fundamental right to regulate who can inherit the assets or money you've already paid taxes on for your entire lifetime. second, the victims here aren't you think they are. this change would affect families who made really smart decisions with small businesses, farms, even buying homes in places like silver spring, maryland, may be in the '90s r '80s. try to sell at $200,000 house now might be worth a million dollars. good luck trying to pass that down your child. this denies the ability of smart adults to give security to their own children. i would be very remiss in not mentioning the "wealth" tax for the government literally just takes a certain percentage of articulated savings and investments and gives them to other people. remember what obama said. you didn't build that. the biden team has reportedly rejected the wealth tax idea now. but that does not mean congress cannot put a wealth tax bill on its task. we have seen how easy it is for the radicals to drag biden to the left. ask yourself this. you think about all the taxes i've just laid out. have democrats really shown the type of judgment and wisdom to indicate that they know how to plan our lives better than we do? is the angle has been warning you for almost a year, it's hare using covid to transform the economy so it will no longer be the free market economy that we created so many years ago. more prosperity and happiness than any other economic system in the world. so the slick p.r. campaign they are unveiling is going to promise great changes. they are going to say they care. the truth is their policies never work. just take a look at baltimore or oakland. you will see what your future looks like and that's "the angle." joining me and i was larry kudlow. former white house economic advisor. larry, this isn't just fleecing the rich. all these proposals would hurt the middle class. in layman's terms. explain why. >> here's one way to look at it. trump's tax cuts and i want to say particularly the tax cut for corporations and small businesses, those benefited primarily the middle income and the lower and middle income. you could look at the census bureau numbers, federal reserve numbers, i got more growth in their income and wages by far than the top 1%. don't forget the salt tax damaged wealthy people also. this business about paying their fair share, the way you get upper income people pay more in taxes is to lower their tax rate. not only will they have investment incentives. they will also have no tax avoidance. they don't tell you that. the evidence is clear. to say that it's just big corporations as though they were bad or they are going to take away the deduction for small businesses too, they're not bad. it's the strong horse, red herring, trojan horse. this is democratic social policy, redistribution, and all that will do, all it will do is take a good recovery in 2021 and stopped dead in its tracks in ' 20 to end '23 and beyond. if it gets through the congress. >> laura: prepandemic the united states had the strongest economy in the g7. we had wages that were going up. we had high consumer investor satisfaction. we had the lowest unemployment rate, record low on employment rate. no inflation. you demonstrated that it could be done. it was done with common sense policy. kept the labor market type. which means wages are going up if you believe in supply and demand. what happens now? >> let's take a typical family income rose to $66,000 under trump. that's a record high. in two years, the middle class family increased their income after tax by $6500. that's about five times more than obama-biden did for their entire eight years. i say this because a, is rooted in facts. this is largely a factory argument from the left. b, it tells you that if you repeal these taxes on corporations and small businesses and capital gains for example. you are going to take away the benefits to the middle class and the lower middle class. that's a key area. the lower middle class. i think the bottom 20% quintile had something like 15 or 20% increase in wages. nothing like that occurred. it's a straw horse to say they don't pay their fair share. spoke to the idea of putting this onerous tax burdens on individuals who are trying to pass on their home or the busin. this thing called stepped up basis and really quickly explain how that's going to hammer middle class people. it's not going to hammer -- the people who are dying, they die, they're dead. millennials are the ones were going to get slammed with that new rule if they eliminate the stepped-up basis. >> bear in mind you've already paid taxes on your income. you've already paid taxes on the corporate income. you've already paid taxes on capital gains. this estate text comes on top of everything else. what we've done in recent decades is if you sell an asset, it is sold now. the basis of that capital gains comes right now for the purchase price. that will be repealed. you will go all the way back to the original purchase price which could be 50 years ago. family farm could be 75 or 100 years ago. that's a terrible penalty. that will decimate wealth. there will be no intergenerational transfers. this comes out of the left-wing playbook. it's all about income distribution and has no economic sense whatsoever. by the way, janet yellen is talking about some kind of minimum tax on corporations worldwide. that would put us at a disadvantage. by the way, we raise our corporate tax rate from 21% to 28% and it may go higher, that's going to be noncompetitive. we will lose money. cash will leave the united states. it's exactly the reverse of what happened to the drum years or the reagan years. or the jfk years. this is not a tax -- naughty tax policy. >> laura: it's definitely going to lower everyone's standard of living. if that's what they want that's what they're going to get. thank you. great to see you. we have long warned you the dr. fauci and friends are costly moving the goalpost to prevent us from returning to our old lights. they didn't like the old normal. we caught them in the act. listen to what he said last week on the number of cases that would prohibit us in his view from reopening. >> historically if you look back at the different surges that we've had, when they come down and then start to plateau at a very high level, plateauing at a level of 60,070,000 new cases per day is not an acceptable level. it's really very high. >> laura: did you catch that? the plateau is 60,000 to 70,000 cases but yesterday he developed a brand-new threshold. >> when you see a plateauing at a level of anywhere between 50,000 and 65,000 cases a day, that's no time to declare victory. there is always the risk of a surge back up. >> laura: joining me now is dr. scott atlas, former white house covid advisor. dr. alice, great to see you. how can there be a plateau of cases when the numbers are declining? how does that work? >> yeah, the one thing i would agree with dr. fauci on here is when he said the words "there's always a risk." that is the problem. this is the problem with the logic being used here. there is always a risk. there's always a risk for every virus for every single disease, for everything we do in life, for a new pandemic, a new variant. there's always going to be a risk. we cannot possibly make normal living dependent on zero risk. this is really a fundamental issue here. >> laura: on "meet the press" yesterday dr. fauci tried to crush the dreams of all those wedding planners out there. watch. >> i've got a staffer or two that wants this question asked of you and i'm sure they're not alone. one can people planet indoor wedding? >> it's going to depend on the level of infection in community. i think you're going to see weddings in the normal we we've seen it within a reasonable period of time. there's always a caveat. it's not going to happen if all of a sudden you have a surge. >> laura: dr. alice, it's only a matter of time before the faucis of the world are -- i shouldn't say that. they are already being ignored. friends of mine in florida just got married. texas, just got married. so the court i'm getting pictures of people on twitter. what's he talking about? the world is moving on that they are stuck in reverse. >> the world is moving but they are moving to florida. i don't know what to say about something like that. again, if you have somebody who is supposedly the spokesman who keeps saying we don't know there is zero risk. what if this occurs. this has really been one of the failures actually i thought -- i've said this for almost a year. the failure of the faces of the public health advice is that they always say we don't know with certainty, what if x. now we are see the result because especially here in california i can tell you there's a hugely damaged psyche. people are still driving in their cars alone wearing a mask. young adults, healthy stanford students are running around outside exercising wearing a mask. this is insane. >> laura: dr. atlas. i want to get your thoughts out of europe. germany, france and italy have suspended the use of's covid-19 vaccine. a small number of people develop blood clots. >> what i read today was 19 countries now have put on hold this vaccine. when you look at the numbers. again, i haven't looked at everything in detail but from what i read, there's only a small number of cases, even smaller than that compared to normal populations were not vaccinated of the so-called blood clots. secondly, there is no evidence from what i read of any correlation to the vaccine. again, we are witnessing something else here which is the loss of rational thought. the loss of objectivity in looking at scientific data. it's very scary. the psyche, the mentality of what is happening here. i'm not sure how this will end up going. there's no conductivity of real scientific analysis to decision-making. >> laura: i think when people keep changing numbers and thresholds and moving the goal posts and masks, no masks. after a while, people just say you know what, we are just going to do our best and wash her hands and try to be healthy. i mean, i just think you can't go on like this. it doesn't work for most people's lives. dr. atlas, great to see you. joe biden's pentagon focusing their ire and attention not on our greatest enemies by their fellow americans some of whom are even in uniform. two veterans, congressman chris stewart and columnist kurt schlichter provide a much-needed reality check for defense leaders. >> laura: since biden took office, his department of defense headed by secretary lloyd austin has some peculiar priorities. the new administration has engaged in something of like a loyalty test of the national guard to see whether politics are. ordered a stand-down to tackle white supremacy and mandated free gender reassignment surgery for soldiers. the biden pentagon is joining the mainstream press attacking our own tucker carlson for calling out this insanity. meanwhile, china is growing more powerful by the moment. days ago, yahoo! news drop this explosive report of u.s. air force simulation of a future conflict against china. one lieutenant general described it this way. if the u.s. military doesn't change course, we are going to lose fast." 20 when i was kurt schlichter, retired army colonel and townhall.com senior colonists. kurt, i find this all appalling, the videos coming out of a high-ranking marine corps unit, individuals responding to cable hosts, tucker carlson in this case. you say it's time to abandon this kind of default support conservatives give some of these leadership, not the rank-and-file who i'm sure thinks this is all ridiculous. >> doesn't matter what i say. the leadership of the military has gone and done it. i find it hard to put into words just how important this is. just how awful this is. to those of us who served who spent years internalizing this nearly 250 year tradition of the depoliticize military. it destroys that tradition. is the worst civil military crisis since truman fired macarthur in the early 1950s. it's a disaster and it's contrary to everything i learned from basic training up through the united states army. it's a violation of regulation. normally easy command sergeant major's and generals enforcing regulations. here they are just ignoring them. you know what? this administration is politicizing the military. >> absolutely. why not? it's politicized every other institution in america. why not the military? what's interesting here is that the military leadership that completely abandon the principle of nonpoliticization because it's so important that they have to stand up and some guy on tv. they didn't even do it right. we have seen. we patriotic americans have seen every institution betray us from law enforcement to academia to the media. heck, to the nfl. so we were kind of primed and ready. when we saw the leadership of the military completely abandon its principles in participating in politics, the backlash had to stone them. there was a lot of backpedaling this weekend. you're not politicizing anything. of course you were. we know you were and you just destroyed your own credibility. it's heartbreaking to me that an institution i served for 27 years that i love -- i have my saber for my cavalry squadron hanging 5 feet for me. it's a part of me and part of millions of americans. we need to take this institution back and turn it from a social justice warrior perspective to a war fighting perspective. deter and defeat the enemy. >> laura: or start to defund some parts of the military. it's either going to be a fighting force or not. thank you very much. if the pentagon is going to focus on things like gender reassignment and so forth, commenting on opinion television incentive china, shouldn't taxpayers start asking questions about the $700 billion budget? [laughs] i thought everyone was going to be treated equally but now the answer is lower physical fitness standards. i guess that's where they're going. there are plenty of women who can do the physical fitness standards. where they are insulting those women to try to lower the standards. >> i hope that's not the case. some of the women i served with with the finest officers, some of the pilots. the finest pilots i ever flew with. they are certainly capable. it's a fine line. very demanding, physically demanding jobs where there clearly is an advantage for the males, they have more upper body strength, et cetera. we don't want to demolish of those elite units to accomplish very, very dangerous and physically strong u.s. missions. on the other hand, we try to balance it with opening up every opportunity we can for women. if one of my daughters wanted to serve, i would want to support her. i won't want to give her every opportunity. i would want to give her every opportunity. you can't diminish our capabilities, military capabilities to respond and protect by recognizing that some people may not be as capable as others to do those physically demanding and challenging jobs. >> laura: well, pull-ups are hard. i think the answer is the same that we saw with canceling federal leases for oil and gas on land that the government owns. same thing with keystone. right as we are coming out of a locked down and we need every drop of gas and oil. you tell the head of the petroleum industry we're going to eliminate all carbon fuels by 2050 and gas prices soar. same thing with the middle east middle east. inherited a very stable situation. an alliance with israel and the arab nations. iran was emasculated and weak. >> laura: let's stay on the border. people left understand it. we are on track to perhaps have a million, 1 million illegal immigrants. coming into the united states who claim asylum. they want to claim asylum. most are not asylees. if they are kids, many are going to want to bring their parents. you can perhaps in some cases aa. not the whole million. we have a lot of problems in our own country right now. >> the yale and the mit study showed us there is not the proverbial 11 million people living here unlawfully. it's 20 million already. we've got a huge number and we are in a pandemic and we are coming out of recession. you can think of a worse time. we are not equipped to handle it. it's divisive for the country. the idea of blaming donald trump for the immigration mess doesn't make any sense. it's as if they are obsessed or fixated with the presidential ghost of donald trump. because he gave them everything they would want. all they had to do say we are working on immigration, working with our partners in mexico and central america. they were in the process of forming a mess into through legal process at last. they did it because i guess joe biden wants to be the most progressive president in history. he's not going to run for reelection. he doesn't care about the midterm election. he's no longer barack obama's understudy. speed you but i would say he doesn't care about the middle class. the people who are going to be hurting. lots of kids who are hurting, kids being sent across the border. people are going to be hurting, the kids in public schools. more crowded classrooms. the budgets of states and cities. it's not like it's free money. it cost people who don't frankly have a big margin. >> you're talking about people in my community where i live, predominately mexican american. their kids are going to have more people whose first leg which is not english. they are going to cut advanced placement test. more bilingual education and slows down the process of their entire school. social services taxed. health centers, dmv and for what?
