FOND DU LAC - City Council's new voices will get a say in a proposed social media archiving software and policy, the council decided Wednesday.
Councilmember Ben Giles suggested tabling a final decision for the next councilmembers to get a say in it, a motion that passed 5 to 2. Councilmembers Giles, Alicia Hans, Donna Richards and Arletta Allen, as well as Council President Brian Kolstad were in favor; Councilmember Dan Degner and Council Vice President Kay Miller were opposed.
City Attorney Deb Hoffman first proposed the policy at the March 24 meeting, detailing guidelines for city officials that opt to manage their own city-hosted social media page. Posts and comments on these pages could be archived through the software ArchiveSocial to help comply with open records requests. This software also provides social media training.
