Floyd County Sheriff John P. Hunt has been appointed to the NACo, National Association of Counties Justice and Public Safety Committee. NACo , headquartered out of Washington DC, serves nearly 40,000 county elected officials and over 3.6 million county employees. Committee members are involved in all matters pertaining to criminal justice and public safety systems, including criminal justice planning and coordination, law enforcement and crime prevention, courts, corrections, homeland security, and civil disturbances. Sheriff Hunt looks forward to serving in this capacity and knows and understands that only through county partnerships with other levels of government can a comprehensive approach to crime and public safety issues be undertaken within the American system. Sheriff Hunt also knows that counties must exercise a strong leadership role in coordinating with other federal, state and municipalities in addressing current and future legislative and policy making issues.
