I have to say d. C. Is a strange animal. It wants to be a state now. Most people dont realize that a what it should be is what it is, or a district. It shouldnt have, in my opinion, mayors or a council. Finish they should have a board of trustees because theyre stewards over the Nations Capital and receive a third of their budget from the federal government. What do you think . Well, i just think its, this is a discuss traction. Can you imagine distraction. Can you imagine taking time and energy to talk about a commission thats going to remove i statues, over a hundred and also the Washington Monument . And theyre doing this at a time when theres a hemorrhage of murders in the capital . When in the last 19 years 20,000 low income blacks have been gentrified out of the city . And yet none of these issues are up for discussion. Instead, we are talking about removing statues. And i really think its just a distraction so that the critical questions of how do you assist particularly low income people in this city goes unanswered. Lou yeah. I think its a collision of issues, and i think, if i may disagree with you a bit, its more than a distraction because there is such a thing as a countervailing influence in these radical initiatives including this one put forward by mayor bowser. Wanting to remove monuments is a radical effort at disrupting this it is. Lou our institutions, our government, and we need to respond,. Yes. Lou and i think one response would be to reduce the size of the district, decentralize our federal government, put agencies in omaha, put them in memphis, tennessee, and get them out of washington. [laughter] because this is, this is nuts, whats going on in this country. And the left has to be brought back to the center if theyre to participate in our government. It reminds me of 18th century france when part of the french revolution, they had to, first of all, rewrite history. And, of course, you see the guillotine was pulled out and aristocrats were slaughtered as well as the church. And there was a chance to eradicate history. What theyre trying to do is really rad candidate history really really id rad candidate history. And the fact that thaw had a guillotine means that has some powerful meaning to it. But i really do, they have really now migrated from social justice to really empowering anarchists whose intention is to just undermine this nation. And its unfortunate that the black leadership is silent in this hijacking. The fact that he was migrated from social justice to the burning of bibles, toss desecration of the to the desecration of the crosses saying its a symbol of white supremacy, and now theyre going to attacking people on the streets. Aye never seen the level of ive never seen the level of depravity that i have seen, the fact that in portland theyre going to lock shut a Police Building and then torch it and burn the people in there. There were those who said back to africa, those we should, accommodationists, insurrectionists, and then there was sclc, sncc. It was an intense debate as to which direction we as a people are going to be directed. And then we issued our problem that mission to the nation. Pock la mission to the nation. Proclamation to the nation. Theres no debate, this is no discussion within its ranks as to what the it has, it has forfeited that and turned it over toed radical left, white extremists who are exploiting and taking that rich legacy and exploiting it. And so i think they need to be called out as well. One of those radical lou why is it, and you go ahead. Lou im sorry, bob, go ahead with. No, but ive got, i got a call from the mother of an 8yearold who was shot the death on the streets. And when she protested in saying that blackonblack crime is the biggest challenge facing, a black lives matter person challenged her by saying she needs to just quiet down. After all, its disrupting their agenda. She said, well, what ises your agenda . Our agenda is policekilling blacks. And so we at the Woodson Center, were going to give a voice the those mothers. Were going to let them speak for themselves. No one talks to the people in the community suffering the problem. But elites dominate. Were going to change that. Lou why looking around for countervailing influences to what is, as you say, an insidious influence in this country, black lives matter, antifa, other radical left organizations, the radical dems themselves are moving further left by the week, it seems, than we could have ever imagined. What is the countervailing influence here . Because it is, as you point out, its not black leadership are. Its not the black church. It is not the black caucus, the congressional black caucus. Who in the world the leader to stand up against, by the way, organizations who do not have a clear, defined, obvious and public leader . Well, i go back, if you look at the polls, 80 of black america supports the police. But change will come from the low income black neighborhoods. They are going to be the salvation of this country because they have not been hood winked and bamboozled. Theyve just been silenced. All they need is to be given an opportunity to speak for themselves, and thats whats going to change this dynamic. To give them an opportunity to speak for themselves, and they will rise up. And because the left derives its moral authority by advertising themselves as being the legitimate representatives of the poor and the socalled marginalized. And so, but when those people speak for themselves and say that the radical white left does not represent me, then their moral authority is withdrawn. And thats when, thats a dynamic thats going to save this country, is when the people in these communities who are losing these babies at record numbers, they are the ones who are suffering because police are either leaving and retiring, or theyre being forced to go downtown and to handle riots, withdrawing from the communities. But trust me, the sleeping giants of america are low income blacks who are going to say enough is enough. We are going to take charge of our lives, and we are going to promote, were going to be agent of our own uplift and, as a consequence, the country will be uplifted. Watch me, this is my prediction. What were watching here first of all, do you think theres any chance, i like the idea of your legislation, do you really believe there are two democrats who would support it . I dont i doubt it, lou. Fortunately, senator cotton introduced it in the senate where it might have a much better chance of moving forward, and between he and i and other republicans who want to join us along the withdraw, hopefully we can maybe add it to an amendment to any future bill that might pass that would take away Unemployment Benefits for those who riot and cause violation or destruction in the streets. I invite all of my republican colleagues nationwide to think of ways that we can bring this violence, these mobs, the riots to an end. Its not going to be the democrats who are going to stop it, its going to be President Trump and republicans who bring it to an end. Lou well, the president is doing everything he can. I havent heard much from the leadership of the house or the leadership of the senate, for that especially the senate, for that matter. The party seems again to be trying to splinter as it did under paul ryan in the house when he was speaker. And as these riots continue to happen across the country, i know myself i hear from my family, my friends at home in my district in indiana every single day, they i call me and say, jim, i go to work every day, i work hard, i pay taxes, i raise my family, i support my community, and then i turn on the tv and see the trunks of public property. What are the destruction of public property. Thats why i introduced the support peaceful protests act. You see from mayor ted wheeler in portland, lou, heres a guy whos spent his entire career feeding the beast hoping they would eat him last, and the time has come. The mayor of san jose had a blm flag on his house, they still vandalized it. Every single one of these democrats are hypocrites for turning a blind eye to these activities. Now we have to republicans are the ones who are trying to doing something to stop it. Lou yeah. In my opinion, theyre a hell of a lot worse than hypocrites. They are selling out the country, and they know exactly the consequence of what giving greater power to have blm and the antifa activists will do. Its an outrage that theyre not outraged, theyre just simply playing the game as they will and trying to preserve a coalition of constituencies that is falling apart beneath them. The Democratic Party is moving so far to the left, i dont think there is at this point the president has greater wind at husband back every day at his back every day as a result of whats going on in the Democratic Party. The house doesnt seem to have any way to benefit. Let me turn to a couple of things that is going, thats happening that is deeply troubling, and that is that this violence in various states are democratrun cities, and i dont want hear as many republicans in the house particularly, jim you are certainly an exception, and there are many, but theyre not lining up with this president. And i just dont understand how they think they can possibly prosper. Because if theyre not with this president , theyre against the people. Its that simple. He is a populist republican. And, by the way, the inverse of populist is to be antipeople. Its just that simple. Theyre sucking up to corporate interests, to wall street, and its got to end. Lou, this is lou its his party. Last week on thursday night when he gave what i believe the best speech hes given in four years, which is saying a lot, at the convention, we heard him weave together so many of these themes that speak to the heart and soul of what makes America Great speaking directly to the American People. It didnt feel like a Republican Convention, it felt like a proamerica speech, a proamerica convention. And i cant, i cant defend my republican colleagues who arent onboard with the president because i dont understand it myself. This president is so popular where i come from, hes so popular with hoosiers in my state that its, it doesnt make any sense for me that any republican wouldnt be onboard fully with this president and his agenda. But honestly, there is a really serious undertone to all of it, ands that is the fact that, you know, this is a woman, you know, as you said earlier with, you know, hypocrite does not do it justice, what these people are out to do. There are out the not only, you know, be these monstrous hypocrites they are, but they are truly out to destroy america. And, of course, when she gets caught in the salon all legally without a mask getting her blowout, what is the first thing she does . She blames the salon owner. Any restaurant, any salon are owner, anybody that is trying to make a living anywhere around San Francisco or any of these places that are dominated by democrats and being destroyed by democratic policies should revolt. Lou and i dont think, or i dont think you have the leadership of the Republican Party as define by Kevin Mccarthy and mitch mcconnell, i dont think they get it yet. I think theyre playing at something that they dont quite understand, the depravity of the left and the intensity of the leftward lurch of that party. And that was what i thought was so interesting about the Republican Convention last week, was that it was not it was so refreshing in so many ways, but one of the ways it was so refreshing is it was not like any other Republican Convention that weve seen in a long time. You love freedom and equal justice under law or you want special rules for special people, and you want to destroy law and order. Its really that simple. Donald trump has always been, you know, hes not an idealogue, he just loves america, and he loves the things that make america what america is today, and those are, chief among them, equal justice under law. Thats all hes ever asked for. And republicans just, they dont do a good job telling that story. Donald trump does. Lou absolutely. And, you know, there is another, many indicators right now that the president is moving in the right direction for november 3rd. And amongst them, the fact that there isnt a kennedy anywhere in elected office in washington, d. C [laughter] that has to be an i men from on high e men that things are going to get incredibly better. The only, i guess, countervailing influence is that ed markey is further left than aoc most of the days. But this is a Democratic Party thats left schumer and pelosi gasping for air as they try to veer left. Your thoughts. Yeah. They literally cant keep up with the circus. But, you know, the thing is that, you know, throughout Nancy Pelosis the first speaker of the house to ever lose the majority in the house yet maintain control over her seat and get, and get the speakership back. And thats always been a testament to her iron grip on the party. She no longer even has an iron grip on the party. She no longer can even point to that as a reason for her to be the speaker of the house.
