Party that is trying to get back into the white house, times are pretty good, how can you argue they are bad. Hillary with your reaction. The one thing that has dominated the news cycle after the debate last night is the word wine cave after Elizabeth Warren went headtohead with Pete Buttigieg over a fancy fundraiser in california where he wined and dined high dollar donors. The mayor just had a fundraiser that was held in a wine cave full of crystals and served 900 a bottle wine. You should not pick the next president of the United States. Im the only person on the stage who is not a millionaire or billionaire. This is the issue with issuing purity test your self cannot pass. Bernie sanders jumped on board with the wine cave critique circulating the spin room with a new website on their tshirt pizza wine cave. Com. Also Elizabeth Warren brushed off criticism of her well tax proposal and said it would hurt Economic Growth and former Vice President joe biden said he would happily switch over from oil and gas to a Green Economy even if it meant sacrificing hundreds of thousands of workers jobs. Even the potential it could displace thousands or hundreds of thousands of bluecollar workers in the interest of transitioning to the Green Economy. The answer is yes because the opportunity for those workers are transitioning to high paired jobs. Taxes of this magnitude would stifle growth in investment. They are just wrong. Pete buttigieg took incoming attacks from all sides, hes not the front runner nationwide but hes a front runner in iowa which is the first state to vote in a month from now in the democratic primary. One of the senators that drilled him, Amy Klobuchar criticized him for being a small town mayor who has never won a statewide race in question if he could win and nationwide one. It seemed like that tactic worked for her because she had the largest fundraising post debate ever, she raised over 500,000. Neil thank you. It is a tough sell to look at a Strong Economy and argue it is not strong. But if youre the party that is out of power, thats the best you can do to try to get back in power. How will this store ou sword ou. Jillian, that is a tough sell, it really works and a good economic environment. Shouldnt they run to a wedge issue. Is pretty laughable if you look at any economic metric, people are better off now than they were before. I think one of the most powerful things if you look at unemployment among people of color and who have had a harder time and people of criminal records are having an easy time getting a job because the labor market is so tight. This is not a winning argument with the majority. Neil what about the Bumper Sticker there. [laughter] it is interesting, its all demographics. How about i get invited to your Pumpkin Spice latte cave. [laughter] you can tell they are grasping for straws with the wine cave and guess what he never ran anything but a little town. They are also plain for the base, some of these are base arguments. But you have to look at what happened last december, i went back and look at my reporting from last year this time, some of my columns for the New York Post that it was so obvious that the market in the democratic left, the markets were freaking out and the democrats are going nuts, they thought that the troubled economy was coming apart by the seams as the fed raised rates. Everybody took a deep breath and about two weeks and realized the economy is really strong. I am telling you, this is really interesting, december of last year was supposed to be the end of the trump boom. Neil Christmas Eve. I remember i was getting calls from friends of mine and they were freaking out. But its interesting that how much they got wrong because the economy is very strong. The best is wages, going up. If we did not have the crazy trade stuff it would be even better. The markets, this is for sister katie money missed about, they thought they thought we were hitting every session. Neil im old enough to remember bill clinton in the 1996, im arguing the recovery that was in place and it really picked up after the election with the internet boom. It was not fair to everybody. It was an uphill battle we ended up losing. Time and again, whether 84 taken on Ronald Reagan and the unfairness of the recovery center. Its Opposition Party first battle cry to say not everyone is winning the battle but it is tough, it is really tough. I agree. The Democrat Party should have picked another battle cry than banning the rich. Neil donald trump is effective and i talk about this, its very good at finding other ways whether we was the border or how we do in china and policies but he found other issues that did not just focus on the economy, its pretty good i know he said he inherited but the reality wa he turned the argument on its head. I dont see democrats doing the. You see them trying to do it with cultural issues. But that backfires, if you look at how the cultural debate on the left has gone, it is much more radical than in 2016. Again theyre going so far left that they definitely turned off republicans and go for a Middle America and the only Economic Policy or the radical way in which they would remake the american way. The cultural issue there losing argument thereto. It is dividing the country but not in their favor. Why are you attacking the dems behind, the whole reason for everybody coming to the United States of america is for better economic situation. If youre damning the people at the top id be cautious on the economic argument i could strong for trump and winning in the factor so far left is another strong one. Even biden is very far to the left i did reporting two weeks ago and wrote a column for the post, he is now o or more less. Bill clinton never even got more than 50 of the vote twice. He did not get more than 50 now you have a third party candida candidate. Character often matters, the one thing i do worry about with trump is how much he turns off suburban women. Last night did you see the article in the christian times. Last night he went after jo john, im not saying hes a saint but the guy is dead. Im taken back, you have biden coming out saying all sacrifice all the jobs were the economy. Neil were going to replay that again and again. Hillary clintons comment on jobs and all that. You dont want to be in that position. They are repeating the mistake. Now you have biden saying its about manufacturing bluecollar jobs, Elizabeth Warren talking about healthcare, she does not mind if people in the insurance sector lose their job. Neil a lot of factory worker votes in the last go around. Thats why they are looking at joe biden and thats why unfortunately he is still leading because they think that he can be the appeal in those states that went from red i dont believe he will actually implement those policies. Anything to get elected, wen one gets to be president there is no doubt that he runs best. But the smart money, it is funny, smart money got 2019 entrance economy so wrong in the smart money is still embraces economy going forward, im just saying trump may be the counter indicator of all times, especially on the economy. Neil you kind of touch on it, the characters that come up, you could argue with an economy strong is this the president should be up by ten points in the polls. The Things Holding him back our issues like the comments about john mccain and everything they come back to haunt him. Democrats got hope for more of that. Ethic thats true, but if you look how they shift left not on economic policies but social issues, the case and point of that of college campuses, you dont have an elevated, you have an accusatory tone they will go after anyone who disagrees and silence them. Thats a basic democrats are playing too. Its a question whether anyone can win with the democrats and win the election. Trump personally is insane or he acts insane, its probably all for effect, his policies are modest. Trade has been getting tough on china and its been around forever. He asked that time not right in my view. Just saying. I am just telling you, he says these crazy things. Into his election to lose. His policies, tax cuts, all modest. What about the family leave, there are things that he is doing that is not even getting notice because of impeachment. The democrat sound normal but there policies are out there. I think he does well when he has somebody to play off of, the president. Perhaps when he cannot make the case instead tacked the other person, he does very well. Neil that is great. Boeing shares are trading lower, United Airlines has gone ahead and pulled the boeing 737 max jet until early june of next year. This on the heels of the problem with the starling or launch, this is a boeing rocket, a very bumpy start, is supposed to usher in the new era shipping our own guys and gals up to the International Space station and it did not make the orbit it was supposed to, has to come back to earth, try again but delays them substantially. Neil let the game begin, at least in china, republican senator rick scott confirming about business he is urging nbc not to air the 2020 beijing Winter Olympics because chinas human rights record, he has many supporters growing on capitol hill. Gordon chang on those developments. They dont want the olympics. But they certainly do not want american firms capitalizing off coverage off them. Where is that going. You never know, people would say today its inconceivable that the ioc international a lipid committee would move it from beijing. But you do not know. What we are seeing is a dramatic change in Global Opinion about what is going on in china, you cannot run a series of concentration camps or one to 3 Million People based solely on their ethnicity and religion, you cannot have a series of camps for children. Neil the chinese responded and said none of that is happening but we have pretty good intelligence. They said indeed that is happening. The first said, no such camps, then they said these are Vocational Education centers. Now they say they are all closed. Of course they are not. Nobody in the community has seen their relatives come back except for very, very few. We know that those camps are still in existence, they have somewhere between 1. 1 and 3 Million People and its really awful. Neil they have come back in the past and said how would you like it if we like to join your treatment and the rounding up of african working teenage boys were disproportionally killed, remember that vividly, to complete that game, a traumatically different game. In other words, i do not see them relinquishing this argument. They certainly are not. They gone on a human rights offensive predict what the best diplomats in the human rights section. They are very sensitive about this. At the Un Human Rights Council and all of these, you have the chinese there constantly hammering the west and everybody else about human rights. Can you flip it around and say whats coming up in 2022 hosting the olympics, they dont want to get violent and crackdown and some have agreed they feared they would because of that. Thats a real possibility, the other thing china knows if it deployed strips on the streets of hong kong it would be open warfare. Neil are they there now . They are not broadcasting it but they are there. Not everyone but many people think you have the Army Officers or Peoples Armed police in the guise of hong kong policeman. Hong kong policemen are no longer wearing identification numbers or tax or anything else. Some of those guys look very, very big much bigger than most cantonese are. There is really deep suspicion and hong kong that the pla are already there. If they were to formally deploy in their own uniforms then i think they would really be a fight. It would be a fight to the end and high casualties on both sides and beijing does not want to have to suffer that because it does not want its first war in many, many decades to be a loss. Neil lets talk about the china phase i deal that apparently is all but wrapped up, i dont know the details, they have been a little sketchy. But now were curious, who signs it and where. The first talk with the two president s sign it and maybe an iowa. Do you have any idea . Its probably not going to be at the national level, you probably have bureaucrats and one thing that is interesting is the way china has been handling this. You have no political leader who is taking credit for this, which means theyre very sensitive about it and you will probably end up with someone like the chief trade negotiator, maybe not even him. Right now this particular time i think they are worried that there will be a backlash in the chinese internet people are saying surrender to the americans. I tend to think they got the much better of the deal but nonetheless the chinese got much better of the deal. Neil why are they saying that. I think xi jinping has crated the situation were anything less than 100 present victory is going to be a loss for him. Right now you have a political p that is paralyzed. This thing has not been signed yet. Your translation problems, all sorts of things that could have occurred that derailed us. Im not saying it will not be signed but im not saying is 100 either. Neil on the elliptic thing, we protested the soviet unions moving to afghanistan and if you go to the olympics they opted not to go to ours in l. A. Are we concerned the boomerang is on us and when you start protesting olympics over political reasons its a slippery slope. This is more than political, china is committing crimes against humanity. What they are doing now is comparable to the third rank before the mass extermination. The culpable thing is a 1936 olympics which was horrific. Neil you should not trade good commerce with china at all. Absolutely. You have the 2008 olympics and that really was a totalitarian spectacle and we dont want to do that again, even if you think we should trade and have relationships with china you do not want to get the worst elements to be more powerful in the system because we know what happens when you get the hardliners in charge. Neil i know how it looks propaganda wise. It is something that is etched in black and white. Thank you very much. In the meantime, the lukewarm critic reviews of skywalker. Definitely not the last, Cyber Security reporting 300 million facebook users data surfaced on the web under dark web, ids, phone numbers, this happens when hackers scrape pages to get data. There is ring, the Doorbell Company owned by amazon, a separate report suggesting more than 1500 email addresses and passwords were compromised. Ring got back and sent me the following statement saying, ring has not had a data breach or Security Team is investigating the incident and we have no evidence of an unauthorized intrusion or compromise of ring system or network. We notified customers whose accounts were exposed and have reset their passwords. What ring is saying it was not breached but users link their account to third parties. Grady tribble has a detail. This secret came and made up of a dozen engineers according to bloomberg who has experience in aerospace, satellite and what they are trying to do according to the report by bloomberg, is ring data directly to your devices. They are trying to link devices without a Traditional Network and they want to have the technology up and running ready to go within five years. This would be an extremely costly endeavor for apple but the have been pumping billions of dollars under ceo tim cook and other Companies Like iridium from the 1990s have tried and failed to deploy satellites before and this is still in the early stages for apple so the company could jump ship if its not going well. It would be a huge deal of apple complete off because the company would be far less dependent on wireless carriers. Think about at t, verizon and tmobile. Neil all week long we have been breaking down the states with the best Economic Forecast and the lot is built on data that the conservatives but looking at the real money slice of this state that have lower taxes, that make it very encouraging for businesses to invest and expand individuals to grow and not leave. That is the loose criteria that has been used in examining those with business climates. The number one is utah, lawrence has the buzz behind what made that possible. Utah has not raise taxes taxes in 20 years. Gary signed a bill to prevent corporate and personal income taxes another 40 taking them down to 4. 66 . Add to that no statewide property tax, there is a local property tax used for the public schools, lets talk about Utah High School students ace court the best in the nation when College Admission exams. They structure the government on revenue comes from growth, not taxes. The government is laborintensive and we have fewer state employees today and we had back in 2002, we have reduced labor and government and we saved the taxpayers 400 million a year by not just keeping up with inflation and growth and were in a very Efficient Government that respects the taxpayer dollars saving them 400 million a year. Government and private business Work Together in the Public Private partnerships. Using little taxpayer money to stimulate industry exporting 15 billion worth of hardware and software and transportation equipment according to the state chamber of commerce. The unappointed rate, 2. 5 in moments ago utah announced it is now 2. 4 . Brandnew numbers, Second Lowest in the nation. The rate of creating jobs, that tops the nation 3. 3 that according to the state department of workforce services, 51000 jobs added in the last year. This is interesting one way utah is doing it they align colleges, teach skills to the students that the companies are asking for and finally we have not touched on anything like this, utah has a big mormon population, how does that help boost Economic Growth, many of them go on a missions overseas, they come back home, they bring the diversity of language and culture which attracts companies. You may know this but one of the bigger employers in the state is goldman sachs. The Biggest Office is in new york and secondbiggest in utah and boeing in the u. S. Air force is also there. Neil they give very much. The criteria a lot have asked, Business Environment in the unappointed rate, how many new workers can find work in promising environments. Individuals to stay in environment like that, they mix all together. Thats what creates a favorable Business Environment. By and large they all had these various qualities in common. Low tax structure, in the senate for businesses to not only move there but stay there. And while what a difference a year makes, stocks at records right now, last year at this exacting time, there was talk of a recession and maybe worse. Barrons roundtable jack with reflections then versus now with a very powerful interview with a very powerful iconic figure peter lynch. Remember him. Good to see you. We have to go back to utah briefly, all that discussion and no talk of skiing. I am taking my son back there for a christmas present, he does not watch this time of day. Great skiing. Neil they all that stuff in common. Enough of skiing but it is interesting to catch up with peter lynch, we celebrated one of the worlds greatest funded investors ever. His returns, he ran for 13 years, 29point to percent per year. That was double the s p. What was he like. He was really personable guy, humble, he talked more about areas where he made mistakes than where he had successes, it seems that youre sitting at a celtics game talking to a nice guy. I think from the interview, do we have it ready . He is a very earthy guy and this is from the interview. I think he said more money has been lost anticipating a downturn than in the downturn, can you explain. Obviously the market has gone up tenfold since i stop my job. You make more money on the upside, the market will be a lot higher ten, 20, 30 years from now. Trying to forget the market is a waste. Over the long term the upside is more than the downside. Neil he does not look like hes aged at all. But his point the timing. You mentioned a year ago, from Christmas Eve to today the market is up 39 . A year ago what were we thinking, a recession get out its terrible. Now people think the market is up so much something has to go wrong soon i gotta get out. If you made that decision a year ago it was really bad, i would not do it now either. If you need the money in the nearterm, of course. Peter lynch said two years, a Financial Advisors will mostly say 5 7 years but i think you need to think about money as a dynamic. If you know you have a College Tuition due on a certain date but you have to have the money in cash or something save set aside. People think 65 and going to retire but you have almost 30 years, retiree should not be thinking of going to cash at age 65 they should think 95. Neil lets see where the market can go this year versus next year. But when a lot of terms that were bearish or big chunk of the money are doing so less and less, nor may the counter indicator to keep this going goes away. Then you can argue more and more getting giddy and thats a sell signal. Sentiment is a reverse indicator. You should worry when everybody is worried and be putting money. But i think again his point, you dont want to read too much into that. If you are in it for the longterm the market has the upward biased, i joke that somebody asked what the market going to do next year, i say up ill be right 55 of the time. I would look at it that way but that said, you cannot ignore the fact that right now multiple ratio is a little bit above average, we were in the tenth year of an expansion and as slow expansion but sometime the market will go down but just be ready so you dont panic and sell at the bottom. Neil we talk about time is your friend but you can think about the nasdaq hit it ties into thousand and they did not recoup until after 2010, so the total perspective. 15 years. I would not suggest putting all of your money in today just as march 9, 2000, that wouldve been a bad move but had to establish a diversified portfolio on the day the nasdaq deemed in 2000, international stocks, bonds you actually wouldve done pretty well. Heck son wouldve got humor but the rest okay. Neil barrons roundtable 10 00 p. M. On the fox network. In the meantime eddie murphy returning to host snl the first time in 35 years. After this. Look into my eyes you will see what you mean to me dont tell me its not worth trying for you know its true everything i do i do it for you its a constitutional necessity for the house to act as it did. We have a president who is running the most corrupt administration in the modern history. If the president claims he is so innocent, then why doesnt he have all the president s men testify . Richard nixon had his top people testify. The president left the house with no choice. Im the person who started the need to Impeach Movement over two years ago. Neil all right. Im taking a leap here, theyre not fans of President Trump. 2020 candidate andrew yang says move on, though. The process has stalled. It looks like investors are moving on, regardless. They have never been that keen to stop and look at the impeachment action happening before them anyway. To the federalist Senior Editor Chris Bedford on the speakers risky strategy. By that, we are talking about her move to stall handing those impeachment documents, articles of impeachment, over to the senate which i guess technically means theres been no impeachment yet. Thats a question for legal experts including one expert democrats brought up as a witness previously in a house hearing, who wrote an op ed saying you havent impeached the president until you send the documents to the senate for a trial. Makes me wonder how many Democrat Supporters on this impeachment fight they are really counting on really quite know whats going on and will be able to buy into it. I was laughing to myself yesterday wondering how many supporters woke up and were surprised to see that President Trump was still the president , that he wasnt removed from office after that impeachment. Thats not how it works. And it kind of exposes what pelosis game here is. They have been polling amongst democratic supporters support for impeachment for years now, until it got to a level where they thought they could move forward. Thats poll testing and these kind of tricks are not how an impeachment should be investigated. Il ilw as tend to look at things, given what i do here at fox business and fox news, through the prism of investors who are not very concerned about this, but who also like to remove any uncertainties. It did add an element of uncertainty as to whether it ever gets to the senate and b, if it does, whats going to happen in the senate and whether this takes some turns we didnt count on. What do you think . I think this cake has been baked since the very beginning. The democrats in the house were going to impeach the president as soon as pelosi gave them the okay to move ahead with the investigation, and it doesnt look like the republicans are going to, if they ever try it, actually remove the president from office. Even people who are generally much more skeptical of the president like mitt romney, you can expect him to write a virtuesignaling oped and say he doesnt like what the president did, then vote along with Mitch Mcconnell and thats even if it gets to the senate. So investors are wise to not Pay Attention to all neil do you draw a distinction between say someone like mitt romney who might not support impeachment but might be open, say, to hear from witnesses . I dont know that byzantine parliamentary procedure for this, but a lot of things could veer on things that people didnt plan on, right . Thats true. Republicans who may have wanted to speed this along in the senate and not have any witnesses and just vote it down and call it a force, i dont think they will get their wish. It seems like the president wants to have a trial, he wants to have a trial that he thinks is more fair than his hearings in the house of representatives, but if its any indication so far what the intelligence hearings in the senate have gone, they havent been very good for democrats and i would expect that to continue. Neil we will watch closely. Always good catching up with you. Chris bedford of the federalist, Senior Editor there in washington. We have [ inaudible ] that nancy pelosi has invited the president to deliver the state of the Union Address to congress on february 4th. This is relatively routine but its the first time that we have seen at least some deicing in the chilly relationship here. This again, is something protocol here. The president gives a state of the Union Address regardless, but he must be invited first by the speaker of the house. That of course has begun, with the letter inviting him to come on down on the 4th. To jared levy on all this. Jared, you have consistently said this, have been consistently right on this, markets ignore all this drama. Im wondering, is it the economy, is it the trade situation, is it just the fact they dont see impeachment going anywhere in the senate and they dont see the president taking any body blows on this, what . What is it . Well, its all those things but i think most importantly, you talked about it just a couple seconds ago, we like knowns. We do not like volatility. We do not like unknowns. We do not like paths that go like this. We have just impeached theoretically almost a president or at least, you know, charged him or accused him. Its probably not going to happen again and obviously, these charges likely are going to be thrown out. At least for the next nine, ten months until election, we kind of know what we got. We got trump, we know hes a little volatile on certain things, but we know what we are working with and we know the democrats literally have nothing left to sort of attack him with so now it really boils down to what is he doing for the country and hes doing things. The usmca, you know, obviously across the pond, brexit which didnt have much to do with trump but thats in the bag, we have china u. S. Trade deal 1. 0 also quasi in the bag. A lot of things are sort of lining up and a lot of these unknowns, these what we call tail risks have gone away. Thats what traders are looking at. I think the meltup is going to continue as long as it stays that way. Neil when you talking the meltup continuing, this frenetic buying activity, i think well into the First Quarter of next year, cowan and company, morgan among those saying the odds of a recession have dropped a little bit. I think goldman has a slightly different perspective. By and large, a lot of these firms are letting loose some of the cash thats been on the sidelines. I dont know the exact percentages. There is sometimes a counter indicator to that, that hints that maybe if everyone is getting giddy its time to get out. What do you think . Yeah. So the meltup theory is historically been shown to be sort of the end of the bull run, right, when everybodys kind of getting that last dose of optimism and the consumers are all jumping in, thats usually the end where somebody plants the last flag and its like tumble down mt. Everest. I dont know if thats the case. Now, barring election of a democratic nominee, that could change things but frankly, neil, i think the tone that we are seeing being given from the professionals you are talking about and also from corporate america, remember, theyve still got a lot of cash in the coffers and consumers also still have a lot of cash and a lot of equity in their homes so theoretically, barring a big change in politics and a Political Landscape and if trump is reelected or looks like he will be reelected which i believe its looking that way, i dont see the end of the cliff coming first or second or even third quarter. Again, election could change that. But i wouldnt be so afraid at least in general of the stock market here. Neil all right. That kind of view certainly was certainly not in vogue a year ago at this time, when everything seemed to be falling out of bed here. Pretty gutsy to say it continues maybe not in double digit increases, but increases just the same. Well see. Thank you, my friend. Thanks, neil. Neil meanwhile, congress is poised to pass a nearly 1. 4 trillion spending package. They are getting stuff done. If you looked under the hood at the spending package, you might say slow down a little bit but it is what it is. Kristina partsinevelos with more at the white house. Reporter i like that you said that. They are getting stuff done and the white house has told us they are going to sign this spending bill. They are just being a little vague on when its going to happen. We know the president is heading to maralago at 7 00 p. M. Eastern time. One of the things he will sign over there is the National Defense authorization act that focuses on the spending or the budget for the defense department. What we do know about this spending package is that theres some political victories for both sides of the aisle, more specifically, though, it includes repealing the obamacare taxes, specifically a tax on Health Insurance benefits, the tax on medical devices, the cadillac tax which is usually on higher cost plans, and the Health Insurance annual fee which will be removed. You have critics that are obviously weighing in on the ballooning deficit that is just shy of 1 trillion. Back in 2017, it was 665 billion. Thats only two years, where you have seen it rise. Which is why earlier this morning on fox news, trump adviser Peter Navarro was asked specifically why the administration hasnt really followed through on lowering the deficit. Listen in. Elections do have consequences. The fact that the democrats took over the house of representatives basically required the republican side to make concessions on spending that we otherwise would not have made. So thats one problem. The second problem is jay powell at the Federal Reserve raising rates too far, too fast over the last year or so. The best way to basically reduce the deficit is to grow faster. You get one more point of growth, 2 gdp growth and 3 over time, is 1 trillion. Reporter this spending bill will also see the largest pay increase for federal employees. So if you are a federal employee in january, as early as january, you could see your pay increase by 3. 5 should this bill get signed. I will end on the fact the president is heading to maralago at 7 00 p. M. We are being told he will speak for about 15 minutes and focus on the space force. Back to you. Neil thank you very much. Boeings widely heralded starliner fails to meet the correct orbit on its way to the space station. Phil keating has the latest on that and what it could mean. Reporter hi, neil. Boeings starliner crew capsule on its allimportant Maiden Voyage test flight, well, will unfortunately not be a flawless one as the capsule itself suffered a critical problem, meaning the spacecraft will no longer make it all the way to the space station, which was a critical aspect of this test flight. The spectacular predawn launch from Cape Canaveral appeared to go as planned and for the most part, it did. The crew capsule and atlas 5 rocket thundered upward, the first stage dropped away, the second stage kicked in but around 35 or 40 minutes after launch, the starliner capsules computer suffered an anomaly. The capsule believed it was further along and in a higher orbit than it was, so the fuel burn needed to reach the space station failed to happen. Despite the imperfection, nasa, boeing and United Launch Alliance were all very positive and upbeat at the postlaunch briefing, saying this is why we do test flights and that a lot of things did go right, and much vital data is being learned, while engineers now investigate why what went wrong, did go wrong. Remember what we do as an agency. We do really difficult things and we do it all the time. Yes, we have challenges but what do we do . Figure out what those challenges are, fix them and move forward. Reporter there is very good news out of this for boeing. The starliner capsule is orbitting safely under full power about 220 miles up, and it is not going to be lost. The plan is to land it sunday in white sands, new mexico, and eventually reuse it. What today means for the plan for boeing and nasa to do their second test flight with this starliner capsule early next year, that time with two astronauts on board, well, it is simply too soon to say. Its still possible boeing could go ahead and do that second test flight and they could put two astronauts on board even though the capsule hasnt proven itself as far as docking with the space station. Again, too soon to say. Back to you. Neil thats interesting that it will come back, they can use it again. Thats kind of cool. Phil, thank you very, very much. Phil keating. California now is testing autonomous delivery trucks as the gig economy has a lot of truckers like danny garcia very very worried. Take a look. Explain what it requires that would kind of end your essentially freelance independent contractor days. Well, its just that. They are basically saying i can no longer be an independent contractor. So its like i dont know what else im to do. Im 30 years as an independent contractor. N i know nothing else. I dont want to be a company guy. I want to be an independent person. Neil Digital Trends editor in chief says a lot of lawmakers arent considering the full impact of all this, like a situation like that, right . Yeah, exactly. Let me tell you about a nuance we encountered. Digital trends hires a whole bunch of freelancers in california, as do a number of publishers. They have very strict requirements around what they can and cannot do. They can only write up to 35 articles per year. We have writers that do 35 per month. All of a sudden, we are struggling to deal with this. Sb nation recently let go of hundreds of freelance writers neil whats the argument for doing it this way . How is california positioning it . The impetus behind the law makes sense. They are thinking about uber and lyft very specifically, saying these guys employ tens of thousands of people, how do we move them from being workers that are just being paid by the hour into employees. Makes sense, right . You want to do the right thing for people. However, lots of ramifications for this broad, sweeping law. Neil so you look at that and you look at how california is trying to keep on top of this technology, its changing as they come up with these laws and regulations and all. Im wondering if its going to, you know, kill the goose. Yeah, its a real challenge. When were looking at a law like this, anyone looking at a law like this, you have to think california is such a big state that it guides the rest of the country in a lot of ways. We saw that with a lot of regulations around the auto industry, right . Neil wouldnt other states look at this and say by the same token, whatever they are doing, they are chasing people out, were not going to do that . Its too early to tell. We have no idea. Its directly impacting a lot of businesses. Hopefully not in an unfortunate way. We are definitely hitting weird ramifications here. Neil on the whole Driverless Technology and all this other stuff, we were chatting about it, where is all this going . So heres the thing. You think driverless cars, you are thinking about your self, right, like hands behind your head relaxing in your car as you cruise to work, drinking a coffee and on the phone. That aspect of it is still a decade or more off. Neil really. But this law, what we are seeing the first steps toward getting these things on the road in small, very specific industries. So they are talking small delivery vans, the pizza guy, the flower company, right, and those things, little shuttles, very predictable routes, less confusion, less highway driving, et cetera. I think small tests like that, we are going to see in the near future. Neil we are going that direction. Its not going to be in sta tst. We are definitely going in that direction. I love it, by the way. Neil a lot of people want to talk about this because im not giving up that wheel. Meantime, gdan geltrude with three top gifts for you, all stocking stuffers. Literally. You can also give the power of capitalism, stocks, that you can give your kids or significant others, who knows the process better than cpa market analyst, bestselling author dan geltrude. I caught you talking about this recently, this idea that giving stock is quite literally a gift that keeps giving but how do you do it . You know when you think about this, going back to when we were kids, i know its a long time ago, in my stocking anyway, i would get like a u. S. Savings bond. To me that was like getting coal at the time. What did doi i do to deserve th but it was a gift that actually had value. So when you are talking about gifting stock now, you know, theres some issues with overvalue in the stock market. So im saying lets look at some stocks that have some intrinsic value, theyre not going anywhere, and were talking about long term. So when i think of that, i think of amazon, i think thats a great company. Theyre changing the world. They are far from being done. Then you got disney. Mickey and company, its a great company, plus they have the bestlooking stock certificate that you can find, if you can get one. Last but not least, apple. I know you were talking about apple before, what they are doing going into space, but listen, they have an extraordinarily loyal client base that love that brand, their market cap is tremendous. Neil these are timeless names and all but how do you get the stock certificate . So when you actually want a stock certificate neil class a, right . Exactly. You get your investment statement on a monthly or quarterly basis and there it is. But if you want a stock certificate, you have to actually request it through your broker, or contact the Investor Relations department of the company and physically request a stock its not like you get it right away. You actually have to wait for a period of time to physically get a stock certificate. Neil that makes it tougher to sell, right . If you have the paper certificate. There actually is, from what i understand, sometimes theres a small charge to actually get the stock certificate itself. Its not something that most people do. With a stock like disney, because it has the characters on it, it really does make a nice gift. Neil your message is you are giving a gift that builds in value, not something that automatically deteriorates. You hope. Of course, the names you mentioned have been high flyers, but thats over many years, right . Exactly. If you are going to give a stock to somebody, this is not Something Like giving a lottery ticket, where at m some point i time it goes down in value. You really want to give a gift that has true value over a period of time, especially if you are giving it to a child. Neil very good. Nice words, all. Dan knows his stuff. Meantime, so do the movers. Charlie just for a year they should go to guantanamo bay, by the way, no waterboarding. Go down there for a year to see what its like. Then maybe we might forgive some of their loans. You dont think that works . I think it does. This is the thing about the bitter boomers. Charlie makes fun of me because i talk about china. Neil look what little wuss didnt show up today. Neil we got to get a perspective on all this stuff thats going on, namely the big fuss over impeachment. Young people are amazed that its not hitting wall street at all. Are you . No. Im not. I mean, the only thing that hits wall street are things that affect the economy. The impeachment right now is having no effect on the economy whatsoever. We have record low unemployment, almost record low unemployment. We have growth thats continuing. And you have a Federal Reserve chief who said within the past week or two weeks that were going to let unemployment go as low as it wants and we are going to keep growth going. Were not going to raise rates. Neil one of the things i heard is they think its going to continue at least into the first half of next year. Are you in that . That would be hard to top this year. You saw actually in the action yesterday, you know, the dow was actually up for the first time 10,000 points since election day, one day after the impeachment vote. Which just proves the market does not factor this into the future for Stock Performance at all. Neil contrary to the rap on older people that they forget stuff like that. Im reminded. Neil whats going on . When you hear the skeptics, a lot of people say they always get worried, the latest turn, something goes on, what do you tell them . Well, this decade is the first ever we have not had a recession. Thats the first time we have ever seen that in this country. Its been a historic runup. I hate to be a debbie downer, but all that Central Bank Money printing had to go somewhere. Where did the paper go . Is it coming into u. S. Stocks . Not sure. The only thing that has stopped markets, we have had sharp corrections already in this market, but if you look at history, the only thing that stops markets is a recession or some shock. Oil prices neil in other words, they dont die of old age. They dont die of old age. If anything, they get stronger. Today there is no recession and no recession on the horizon. You know, the potential, millenials always miss the boat, dont they . Neil our generation has missed many boats. We are better than them. Charlie brady just made a good point. The fed usually creates recessions. They do it because [ speaking simultaneously ] thats where bernanke blew it. Neil youre not worried right now . No. No. Right now i am not worried. Im worried because i think eventually you will have a spurt in commodity prices. That will cause, that will really send things down. Okay, professor, lets be real clear here. The fed caused the last Great Recession by keeping rates too low. Okay . Remember, that created a bubble in housing which created well, right. Neil the prior one. We have now, we have rates lower than negative in a lot of the world. Listen, i think the trump economy is good for a lot of reasons. Corporate tax cuts, lot of stimulus, but negative rates and very low rates creates weird incentives to invest and it creates bubbles that almost always create neil some people, younger people in particular, dont remember anything contrary to this. Im not saying some when they were young remember their parents going through the housing crisis and all but for a whole new generation, this is like something the demographics of Older Americans are more Older Americans than ever. They do move into fixed assets like bonds and you keep the yield down in treasuries. Neil you think that will keep rates pretty low . It is generational. I was talking to an active manager yesterday and he said we missed the boat on everything. We are underinvested in stocks, you know, and why is that. Well, im just so riskaverse. Trump is a little crazy and you know, i took his craziness to be i thought it would impact the markets. I said where did you put your money . He was totally in muni bonds. That does have an impact on rates. It does keep the long end neil a lot of you guys were ahead of this curve. Steve, you were ahead of this curve. Do you worry that now there are a lot of people who want to buy the contrarian indicator, you should worry cash is coming off the sidelines . I think a good chunk of cash is still on the sidelines. Thats when you worry, right . I dont think its really i mean, yes, everything you say is absolutely right. But basically, what you have to look for, recessions dont just come. They come because theres a major catalyst. Neil what if Elizabeth Warren is elected president . I think Elizabeth Warren, i know you are going to throw me off this show after the first day. I think Elizabeth Warren you would have been thrown off by now. Listen, Elizabeth Warren i believe is more similar to trump than she is to bernie sanders. I absolutely believe this. She is proamerica. She is proamerica. Shes antichina. I think trump used to be for universal health. He backed away from it. She wants to socialize no, she doesnt. Bernie sanders wants to socialize. Neil you think boomers worry about whos in the white house or the scheme of oh, yeah. Neil it made a difference with Ronald Reagan and bill clinton . Bill clinton, when boomer voters go into the booth they click, they vote what are you going to do for me. Thats the question. I understand what they are saying about, i hear what youre saying about warrens Big Government takeover, which shes now dialing back on in health care, but i think the boomers understand hey, how you going to pay for it. Neil you also need the Democratic Congress to make it happen. [ speaking simultaneously ] she will back down from that. Neil she was the nominee i guess its the huge irony, we talk about boomers and this and that. The millenials, when you talk to advertisers they always want to appeal to that demographic of millenials, right. They are probably the least wealthy class, generation of people in america right now. And they will have probably not the deciding factor on either the democratic nominee or the republican nominee. We better hope not. Because they dont vote and dont have money. Fascinating neil well, they are entering the housing market. Wait a second. They did a survey im sorry. This is one of these things when you are lying around, you read, and this really knocked me off my feet. I look at pornography. I think it was a fox survey, actually. They asked what form of government do you prefer. They asked the baby boomers and they asked the generation younger than the millenials and all of them said capitalism versus socialism, and you know, it was like 70 30 capitalism or 80 20. Millenials, 46 41. Its almost tied. China is not socialist. Neil they have a little more than they did at the start of this decade. Not much. Its years of indoctrination in high schools. Some of the socialism with millenials is the fact they owe a lot of Student Loans. Neil i just got a fox alert, your average audience age just hit 80. Nice demo ploy there, pal. You think about it, there shouldnt be a demo in nielsen ratings that starts at 24. They have no money. Neil the younger you are, the more open you are to purchasing different things. They have no money. They are laden with Student Loans and they go out neil you have been greedily grabbing it all. All your fancy restaurants. I grew up working class, working poor. We didnt believe in taking out loans. The kids today, did. Neil oh, stop it. They did. Wait a second. Oh, my god, so funny. The grand prize trophy duh i was born to be somebody neil all right. You know the nasdaq is on pace now for the longest string of records since 2017. You just heard from those baby boomers who are very very convinced that this continues right now, that the trend is your friend and that you cant time markets. Thats something echoed by my buddy Charles Payne, host of making money coming up in just a few minutes. A lot are echoing what you have said far more lucidly, i might put out, that the markets are something that you cant time, but you should stick with. What do you make of that . Charles theres two things here. If you look at any chart, you have done this many times, 10, 20, 30 years, 100 years, it looks like you go straight up. Now, we know in between there there are some tremendous ups and downs, a lot of anxiety, and thats the key for a lot of our viewers, how to deal with those intervening points when theres a lot of pressure and it feels like its only going to go down and you know, i like to remind folks if are yyou are in this fe long haul, there are times you want to get out of stocks because theyve had a good run but for the most part you want a certain amount of exposure to the stock market because trying to guess the top is folly and most tops obviously are just short term or shortlived because ultimately, no matter how deep the recession is, no matter how deep the crash is, eventually we turn around and we are talking like this about alltime highs again. Neil you are right about that. But eventually wrong. Im always worried about that, the person who seizes on this or does what they did at the nasdaq, in the early 2000s, waits more than a dozen years to rereach those levels, how do you know . You are a stock picker, not an aggregate buyer, but how do you play that . Charles i look first and foremost at the drivers of the stock market, the economy, corporate profits, those kind of things. You know, i just for instance, this morning we had a slew of data out that just looked absolutely remarkable. Let me tell you. Heres something interesting. Last year, 2018, was the alltime record for corporate earnings. They were amazing. They were through the roof. Nothing ever like that happened before. Guess what . The market was down. So you know, but we caught up this year and i just think its unfortunate that so many people, you know, worry about the next 20 dip. I always say think about the next 100 move, the next 100 move can only be to the upside. The next 200 move can only be to the upside. I just hate to see people miss out on it. Neil what do you tell older investors, when you talk long term versus short term, i know peter lynch is going to be on barrons roundtable talking about that, but what is it to Charles Payne . Charles long term is a lifetime, really, honestly. I think investing is a lifetime endeavor. Now, you change the composition of your investments the older you get, but i think some of the old rules i got to tell you, people come to my website all the time and now they are 60, 55, now they just now have accumulated the money over a period of years where they actually think they can be more aggressive with the stock market but they also think they are going to live to 85, they plan on skiing when they are 70, they plan on going around the world when they are 75. They are not going to sit on a porch, you know, like the old school stuff. And they think and wonder how they are going to fund that as well as try to take care of their children and grandchildren. Neil they are long term to me is like lunch tomorrow. Get through that, im doing okay. Youre the best, my friend. A great competent read of capitalism. Charles payne coming up in just a few minutes. Neil College Football kicking off with bowl games. There are a lot of them but a lot of perks attached to them. Former nfl player jack brewer on the big money behind these big games. Good to have you. Great to be back. Neil it seems like there are a ton more bowl games than maybe ten years ago, but can you update me . What happened here . The brands. You have the bahama bowl, you name it. These brands are getting behind these bowl games because i think, you know, its just a great opportunity for them to be able to market themselves. Its unique in that folks want to come out and see sports but the numbers have continued to go up. You know, across the board this year, between the bowl games and the bcs, theres going to be over 700 million paid out to these schools and conferences. The numbers are really getting big. Neil you always hear about the concentration of the money in the bigger schools that tend to repeat in these bowl appearances and that its unfair to smaller schools or those that are odd men out. What do you think . Thats true, but at the same time, im a capitalist. This is america. So if you can demand and you bring in the fan base and you can bring in the sponsor dollars, you probably should get a little bit more. Just in about ten minutes, the bahamas bowl will kick off and that pays out 225,000. Then you look at the bcs, where the top five conferences all get 66 million apiece. From day one, no matter if they win, lose or draw. So there is a big discrepancy in College Football. Then you start thinking about, you know, what happens with the players. Will they actually see any of the money. So you really start to understand why there is such a big debate now on why College Athletes get paid. Neil now we are kind of changing our approach how we treat college players, still in its infancy here, but do they get to share in the loot here . Not as much as i think they should. Obviously education is a valuable thing, but i think when you are using some of these bigger schools with the big brands and you know, these elite players, they should get a little bit more money. Whats happening now, ironically, neil, is some of the big bowl games are losing some of their elite players. Theyre not showing up. Theyre going to the nfl draft, theyre declaring for the draft early, so they dont want to take a risk on getting hurt for something that doesnt compensate them. Neil i can understand that. Its a dumb question, but im curious, with the acceleration of Sports Betting and all the like, has that changed this picture for betting on these bowl games and all the rest . Its just brought more money in. I think more eyeballs. I think when you talk about betting and you look at fantasy which i consider betting, i think you are going to see a lot more come about once the ncaa changes these rules. I think you will see a big emergence in College Football, fantasy football, which will equate to more betting opportunities and gambling there. So i think thats an opportunity for the players to actually start getting some of the compensation once they change the likeness rules. Neil jack, thanks. Very good learning from you. I do learn a lot when you spell this out for me. At first i thought we were talking cereal bowls, i was confused, staff had to tell me what was going on. Former nfl great jack brewer.
