Filing a report with the county clerk they charged him with leaving the scene of an accident after having done bodily harm. Once he had admitted that he had his case right there. There was no need to do anything else. My investigation is complete. We will be prepared to enter the hearing and present our fax and if the complaint is issued a summons will be issued for the senator and we have to go to court. He got caught twice in a severe undercurrent. Fulltime he thought he was finished. Somehow he struggled out of it and clambered back up on the sand and made his way to the motel room and pass out. All kinds of scrambled thoughts, all of them confused, some of them irrational, many of them which i cannot recall. The 13 minute speech was also a plea to the voters of massachusetts and to whom he gave an ultimatum. He said he was going to ask the people of massachusetts to help him decide whether to stay in the senate. Whatever the future holds for me, i hope that i shall be able to but this most recent tragedy behind me and make some further contributions to our state and mankind, whether it be in public or private life thank you. In massachusetts,. [inaudible] local radio and tv responded, they were taking phone calls and running three and four to one in favor of the senator. We feel he is human and people do make mistakes. Were at a crossroad. He survived, politically. [inaudible] would you vote for him again . Definitely. Not only he had survived in his home state, he triumphed. A report published by the boston globe showed that 70 of boston voters wanted him to say. There was just this residual sympathy for the family. Everyone, large numbers of people. They were conflicted about disturbing their daughters final resting place. , have a choice, to exhume mary jos body in order to satisfy some morbid curiosity that people may or may not have had. These were diehard catholic people and they didnt believe in exhuming someone just to prove something. They hired a lawyer and on september 24, filed their own paperwork, begging the court not to allow the daughters body to be disturbed. So thats the last thing they could have under their control was the ability to not exhume their daughters body and to leave her rest in peace. I received a call from the states attorney asking me if i would consult in the case and consider testifying and performing an examination autopsy on mary jo. Having reviewed the case he testified with his assessment. Had an examination been done the autopsy would still have come up with the same answers, rule out fractures and strength he and anything else, et cetera, all of that which wouldve been done and shouldve been done back in july could have still been done in late september. With the family emotionally fragile from the death of their daughter some argued they attempted to exert their influence. In addition to the tragedy of losing the daughter there inundated with the kennedy machine, trying to keep them on their side because they dont want to tip off. They were rather surrounded by people who were encouraging them to not have the exhumation. It was perceived in the press that they were protecting kennedy and they were protecting ted kennedy, they were protecting mary jo. In Early September the ruling came down that no autopsy will be held. On the scene mean the semi couldve never gone up that cemetery again had i known it had been disturbed. You feel now this ruling justifies the statement made by senator kennedy. What i feel our position has been vindicated and i feel the examination, it always did prove conclusive. It was not until years later that the dust had settled that thethe family reevaluated their decisions to back maybe 15 or 20 years ago. I was talking one day we were talking about what a hard time it was for them to decide whether they would have the estimation or not. She said to me, she said that was the biggest mistake i ever made. Although an inquest is not a trial where defendant can be found guilty, ted kennedys lawyers were worried about the impact it could have. The lawyers want the judge to set ground rules and they want their clients have the same rights as defendant set a trial and have counsel present and has eczema witnesses, for example. The judge shutdown request but in a surprise move state Supreme Court did them one better, citing efforts to maintain order, it was ruled that the inquest would be closed for all outside parties, including. They were told they could have the grand jury if they wanted it but they were not allowed to have any materials associated with the inquest and they could not interview anybody who was there.
