S p, also slightly down but the nasdaq showing essentially flat to slightly higher. Remember, were just about 15 points away, by the way, on the s ps alltime closing record. We will keep an eye on that. How about this. One of the largest malls in the world opens today in new jersey. Its called the American Dream mall. It will have hundreds of stores, restaurants and indoor Amusement Park with roller coasters, and a 16story ski slope. All sorts of experiences. But it comes at a 1 billion cost to taxpayers. It will likely be a traffic nightmare. Wait until you hear how much it will cost to park there. Yikes meanwhile, President Trump heads to South Carolina later this morning. Hes going to an event on criminal Justice Reform. If the president speaks to reporters, which he likes to do before leaving the white house, you will of course see it right here. Got a lot of news to go at this morning, including those rapidly spreading wildfires in california, and Charles Barkley going after Vice President pence because of his china comments. The friday edition of Varney Company starts right now. I didnt ask you if you would buy amazon at 1,700 per share. Would you . Can you ask me at 5 00 today after they report earnings . I dont know how the markets going to react and their earnings have been a little bit all over the map the last few quarters. So i dont own the stock right now. Ive traded a little bit from my own account but im out of it this second. I want to see how it reacts after the close today. Then i will have a better answer. Ashley boy, did he ever get it right. That was market watcher Gary Kaltbaum talking about amazon on the show yesterday. If you watch varney and listen to him, youre in good shape this morning. Lets bring in market watcher jonathan hoenig. Jonathan, interesting stuff. I guess the question today is, would you buy amazon on the dip . Gary was right on. I think you have to avoid stocks like amazon. You know, theres a transition under way on wall street. Its from those growth oriented companies, they used to call them fang stocks of which amazon was a member, that led the market really for a number of years. That transition was occurring, we are seeing it right on the screens this morning. Amazon, down on earnings. Its away from growth towards value. Amazon always was a growth story. This is famously a company that really never made any money for years. The stock went up and up and up. What i see is a situation very reminiscent of cisco and microsoft. Companies that made money in the first decade of the 2000s but the stocks were rather flat. Amazon, terrific company. It will continue to innovate. But i wouldnt buy this dip. I think the valuation contracts even if earnings continue to climb. Ashley all right. You heard it here first. Jonathan, stay there. We will get back to you in just a little bit. Amazons numbers tell us the consumer is spending and the visa numbers tell us that people are using their credit cards. Joining us now, economist peter morici. Peter, is it fair to say, do you think, that the consumer is still going strong, certainly by judging by these numbers . Well, it would indicate that october should be a good month and that we are going to have a good christmas season. September was not a great month for retail sales. But i think Going Forward, we should see a lot of activity. I think it bodes well, for example, for amazon, as you were just discussing. I still see amazon as a growth stock. They are really investing in the next wave of consumer satisfaction. Theres lots of space for them to expand into. This is not like intel and some other companies where they sort of saturated their market capacity. Theres still a lot of, you know, opportunity to essentially eat up brick and mortar retailers. Ashley stay there, peter. Want to get to this story. Vice president pence criticizing china over human rights and stealing technology, and china firing back. To Edward Lawrence at the white house with more details. Good morning, edward. Reporter good morning. The chinese saying that the Vice President s speech was full of arrogance, hypocrisy and lies. A spokesperson for the Chinese Foreign ministry saying that china or pushing back against the human rights accusations and abuses that was in the Vice President s speech. That spokesperson saying that china attaches great importance to human rights, then goes on to hit back on the u. S. , talking about the gauwage gap between r and poor and the u. S. Arbitrarily withdrawing from treaties, also Mass Shootings in the United States. That spokesperson says this. I will read it. We advise some people in the United States to take a good look at themselves in the mirror, to recognize their own problems, to manage their own affairs. Now, on trade, though, the Economic Development of china, the spokesperson says china will not threaten the United States or any other country in the world there. They said this was a muted response really from the chinese but yet telling the u. S. To mind their own business on the other topics. Back to you. Ashley thank you very much. Sticking with this story. Retired nba star Charles Barkley, he had some choice words for Vice President pence after the Vice President criticized the nba over china. Roll tape. Vice president pence needs to shut the hell up, number one. All American Companies are doing business in china. All American Companies are doing business in china. I thought the criticism of commissioner silver and lebron james was unfair. Darryl morey, who i like, he should have he can say whatever he wants to, but there are consequences. But i dont understand why these holier than thou politicians, if they so want to worry about china, why dont they stop all transactions with china . President trump has been talking about, has been arguing with tariffs with china for the last two years. Ashley lets get back to peter morici. Interesting stuff. I guess the question is, what are businesses that work with china supposed to do . They have to walk a tightrope. What say you . I think theres two sides to this. One is they see great opportunity in china and they see a great cost or risk of hypocrisy. They become thats really whats happened. For example, they fired an employee because the communist party got angry he made a misstep. Lebron james is really behaving hypocritical. Hes got business interests in china, via the nba, and hes taking a position that is strictly against American Values and against the american interest. My feeling is that Vice President pence was quite correct to draw attention to the Human Rights Violations in china and if mr. James is comfortable with the kind of concentration camp conditions that are imposed on muslims in the western provinces of china, i think he should go there and tell them how well off they are, and see how that is received. Whats more, you know, why is he a Foreign Policy expert . The man was good at shooting free throws. We all know that basketball players dont learn much in college and now hes expounding on his ignorance. Ashley all right. Well, thats a good place to leave it right there. Peter, thank you very much. Lets move on with the business day. Lets take a look at the dow component j j after walmart, cvs and riteaid pulled 22ounce baby powder off the shelves. Whats going on . Susan they call it precautionary because last week, we had Johnson Johnson recalling around 33,000 bottles of its baby powder that were made in 2018. They say this is voluntary, this is precautionary. The baby powder produced in that year, they say, you know, reports say it might be linked to asbestos contamination. Asbestos, very deadly because it could lead to the development of mesothelioma. J j said no research out there has linked our baby powder, our talc powder, to any causes of cancer. However, we know there have been billions of dollars in settlements and 33,000 lawsuits still on the board that j j faces over the use of baby powder. Ashley interesting. Not hurting the stock in premarket. Thank you very much. Now this story. Shares of budweiser parent ab inbev set to open much lower. Why, is the question. Deirdres got the answer. Deirdre well, so the Company Issued a profit warning and essentially whats happening is that in the u. S. , people are drinking fewer beers such as bud light or bud. It seems like more beer drinkers are going toward craft beers or even, i know we talked about white claw on this show, the hard seltzer. Theres a lot of people who are trying not to have extra carbs. Im not making this up. Anyway, thats a problem for the budweiser brewer. Also, they have been trying to sell lower cost beers in some parts of south america, so while those sales are ramping up, it hasnt quite made up for the slowdown in north america. Ashley changing tastes, as they say. Thank you. Lets take a look at verizon stock. Added more wireless customers than expected. Thats a good thing. The stock up modestly, a third of a percent at 60. 80 in the premarket. Lets take a look at the futures. Where will we be in 20 minutes time . You can see, down slightly. The dow off 59 points, down about a quarter percent. S p and nasdaq also slightly lower. All right. Call of duty has been the most successful entertainment franchise ever. Its out with a new game. I will be asking a video game guru whats so great about it. I really want to know. Bernie sanders says he would legalize marijuana as president. Does the idea appeal to someone who is completely opposed to all of his other policies . Can he get new supporters . We will find out. And take a drive right outside new york city into new jersey, where you cant help but notice a massive complex. It is a mall thats taken 23 years to complete and has been an eyesore to locals for years but it finally opens today. We will be going there live after the break. Lets go to the vault. Varney company just getting started. Delivery drones, or the latest phones. No commission. No matter what you trade, at fidelity youll pay no commission for online u. S. Equity trades. At fidelity youll pay no commission its either the assucertification process. Or it isnt. Its either testing an array of advanced safety systems. Or it isnt. Its either the peace of mind of a standard unlimited mileage warranty. Or it isnt. For those who never settle, its either mercedesbenz certified preowned. Or it isnt. The mercedesbenz certified preowned sales event. Now through october 31st. Only at your authorized mercedesbenz dealer. [maniacal laughter] gold. Gold right, uh. Thank you, for that, bob. But i think its time we go with gbtc. Its bitcoin exposure through a traditional investment account. Nice rock. Its time to drop gold. Go digital. Go grayscale. On a scale of one to five . One to five . Its more like five million. Theres everything from happy to extremely happy. Theres also angry. Im really angry clive actually, really angry. Thank you. But what if your business could understand what your customers are feeling. And then do something about it. Turn problems into opportunities. Thanks drone. Customers into fanatics change the whole experience. Alright who wants to go again . I do i do i have a really good feeling about this. Ashley the American Dream mall complex is opening in new jersey today. This place is enormous. But its come with a lot of criticism. Why . Well, Jackie Deangelis is there. I believe shes outside. You cant get in because it doesnt open until noon, right . Jackie good morning to you, ash. Thats right. It wont open until noon. They said they dont want it to look empty so we are standing out here. Why they are worried about how its going to look, well, this is a project that the ground was broken 15 years ago. Its taken 15 years to get here. What you are going to see today is only part of it. Its opening in chapters. So today, the skating rink, the nickelodeon Amusement Park will open, the ski slope, the water park, they are supposed to open. Take it with a grain of salt. By the end of the year. And what about the three million square feet of retail space thats supposed to be here . Well, the New York Times is reporting that most of it wont be open until march. So the retailers are going to miss that key Holiday Season, the Christmas Shopping season. Its interesting because the owner of this project, its had many owners, triple five group owns it now. Thats also the owner of mall of america in minneapolis. They say they want this not to be a mall or megamall. This is supposed to be a style and entertainment destination. They want it to compete with theme parks like disney or even universal. But theres a lot of questions about how thats going to be received by consumers. Will they look at it in that way, especially in this location at the meadowlands in east rutherfo rutherford . Ashley interesting stuff. You are saying the ski slope supposed to open today. I got my skis waxed which i probably dont need indoors, right . Jackie ill see you there. Ashley we have to wait and see. Traffic, another story. Thank you very much. You will be there all day, im sure. How about this. Quite a Campaign Promise from Bernie Sanders. He says he will use an executive order to legalize marijuana during the first hundred days in office. If elected. Lets get back to jonathan hoenig. Put your libertarian hat on, jonathan, and tell us what do you think about that . As a libertarian, i would probably think you agree with that. Yeah. I agree with it, actually. You know what, interestingly, so do the majority of americans. A majority of americans, according to a recent gallup poll, we are talking both sides of the aisle now, actually support the legalization, recreational legalization of marijuana. If you use the Old Supreme Court adage that the states are the experiment, the laboratories of democracy, its already been successfully tried in state after state, whether it be michigan, whether it be colorado or even california. We know its not as if theres a massive outbreak of marijuanarelated violence. This is the trend. Bernie sanders is right on point with that. Actually the majority of americans agree with him. I dont think its going to save his campaign but hes right on point in terms of the majority of where americans are on this issue. Ashley maybe a couple of extra backers. Who knows. Jonathan, thank you so much for sticking around. Have a great weekend. Ashley you, too. Canadian Cannabis Company hexo has just cut 200 jobs. Trouble in marijuana land. Deirdre trouble indeed. The Company Actually also, so true about the job cuts, 200, also issuing a profit warning as we remember in early october. Basically this is harder than it looks. You were up there in canada so you know about some of these distribution issues. But it seems as if the rollout in stores is just difficult structurally and you were the one who told me, getting these products from the approved factories to the shops actually has a lot more logistics puzzles than anybody anticipated. So this is part of the reason. Then apparently, the Canadian Cannabis market, just demand, is smaller than expected. Some analysts were saying its in part because people are still growing their own even though thats considered a gray market so not quite illegal but they dont have a license to do it properly but there is still this private supply. Ashley because the black market is still thriving. It is in california because of all the regulations and costs of legal growers, but in canada, too, because they are having trouble getting it to the market. Deirdre often the unlicensed growers offer their products cheaper. Ashley all right. Thank you very much. Lets take a look at the futures. We are about, what, 12 minutes or just under from opening on wall street. We are going to be down on the s p and the dow, just perhaps above the water line on the nasdaq. Meanwhile, americas top cell providers joining forces to make texting easier for you. How does that work . Could it help stu . Thats next. Beyond the routine checkups. Beyond the notsoroutine cases. Comcast business is helping doctors provide care in whole new ways. All working with a new generation of technologies powered by our gigspeed network. Because beyond technology. There is human ingenuity. Every day, comcast business is helping businesses go beyond the expected. To do the extraordinary. Take your business beyond. You may have gingivitis. Parodontax. The lexus es. Every curve, every innovation, every feeling. A product of mastery. Lease the 2019 es 350 for 379 month for 36 months. Experience amazing at your lexus dealer. Ashley chineseowned tiktok is used to make viral short videos that apparently are very popular with teenagers but law makers are saying that app could threaten National Security. Susan . Susan bipartisan senators, chuck schumer, tom cotton, warning the u. S. Intelligence community to maybe assess a National Security risk that comes from tiktok which is one of the most downloaded apps in the world, number two behind facebook, just in the recent quarter. 177 million times it was downloaded just in the past quarter, the last three months. And actually, thats down from last year, believe it or not, because it has reached a billion downloads already. So its chineseowned. Its the most valuable startup in the world. I dont know if you ever heard of it but its worth more than tesla, worth more than a lot of companies at around a 70 billion valuation. Because its owned by a chinese parent, these senators are saying how much information do they share to the chinese government, could they build back doors for possible spying and hacking in the future. Tik tok says we have never shared any information with the chinese government. Ashley i dont know if thats going to be enough. Incredibly popular. I didnt know it was that popular. Now this story. Good news for the texting public. Stu varney in particular, which is just about everybody with a phon these days. Major cell phone carriers teaming up to improve the quality of text messaging. Does this mean the text should be better or deirdre it means you become wittier. In an unusual move, verizon, at t, tmobile, sprint working together. They have this Rich Communications service, rcs for short, so they are basically just transforming the way essentially this is on android operating system. So this is in the Google Android versus apple imessage. This is really what this is about. So essentially with these android, on these android platforms, if you have any of these services, its going to be easier to order a ride share, uber, lyft, whatever your pleasure, pay bills, schedule appointments. I think when people talk about apple and its operating system, everybody says oh, its so easy. Android has sometimes been seen as a little bit clunkier. These carriers are getting together to make it a little easier. Ashley all right. Well see if it works. Thank you. Lets take a look at the futures before we head to the opening bell, coming up in about five minutes. Down slightly. We have been in the same range on the dow, off about 50 points. S p just slightly down. The nasdaq, just up ever so slightly, four points in premarket. Well be right back with the opening bell. When youre looking for answers, its good to have help. We built a guide that uses ibm watson. To help the blind. It is already working in cities like tokyo. My dream is to help millions more people like me. Ashley to california, where wildfires again continuing to burn and now more blackouts are possible. Deirdre, whats the latest . Deirdre there are nine active fires burning right now and they have charred nearly 30,000 acres. I mean, this is hard to awful situation. Firefighters in l. A. , sonoma, San Bernardino have been batt battling these fires for more than 24 hours. Theres the kinkade fire, i think when they start naming them, you realize its really pretty dire situation. Interestingly enough, the cause so far is unknown, other than just what we have been talking about, about these dry conditions and of course, then the winds that seem to spread these sparks. Pg e did restore power to about 93 of affected customers, so so far, that is the state of play for pg e which i think probably must be relieved. Ashley look at that stock in the premarket, down another 16 because we know in previous fires, the lawsuits, they filed for bankruptcy because their equipment being blamed in sparking some of those fires a number of years ago. Thank you very much. Well, they are cheering and clapping and waving as you can see, as a new trading day gets under way right now. Here we go. The dow off, we are expecting a slightly lower open. At least thats what the premarket was telling us. There you go. We are just getting going. More red, now they are all black. There you go. Now theyre red. Down 31 points on the dow, as you can see. We have a mixed bag. We are expecting a drop of about close to 50 points. Thats where we are, or thereabouts. Lets take a look at the s p. S p also slightly lower, down. 25 at 3002 on the s p. Take a look at the nasdaq, if we can. Maybe slightly higher. At least thats what we saw in the premarket. No. Apparently not. Down 30 points at 8156 on the nasdaq. Lets take a look at some of the stocks we were watching. We begin with amazon. As you can see, missing on earnings, down 4 , little less than in the premarket. Amazon right now down 76 points at 1704. Lets take a look at visa. People spending more on credit cards but the stock just down slightly, down 1 at 174. 21. Lets take a look at intel. They had a good report, higher profits and raising its full year outlook and the market likes it. Intel up 5 at 54. 88. Taking a look at juniper networks, another chip maker reporting higher profits. Been good for the chip makers. That stock also up nearly 6 at 25. 95. Take a look at verizon, adding more wireless subscribers, but not doing a whole lot for the stock right now. Down about 1. 5 at 59. 73. Take a look at budweiser parent ab inbev, down on falling beer demand. Craft beers and hard seltzers taking over, apparently, getting hit hard in the market early on. Dmou down more than 8 at 84 even. Who is with us today on this friday as we look forward to the weekend . David dietze, susan li, deirdre bolton. Thank you all. We have to start with amazon. First profit drop in two years. You own amazon. You saw these results. What are you telling your clients . Basically, we are back to the old amazon. Remember for many many years, amazon was cavalier about showing any profits and tantalized us the last couple years, showing profit. Now of course the big news, they are doubling down on spending to dazzle the consumer this Holiday Season by having oneday shipping. Thats costing a tremendous amount. I think the bullish news here is that they are not showing a profit because they are going to enhance that Customer Experience and they are going to be able to outperform the competition. Susan the Third Quarter is supposed to be a Strong Quarter for them since they had prime day in the month of july, and usually you ramp up spending into the holiday period. By the way, guidance was weak for the Fourth Quarter, the holiday period as well. Actually, much less than anticipated. Usually they do this because they set expectations low and conservatively, like they did last year, then make the hurdle easier to jump over. I would say its concerning also for the slowing growth in Amazon Web Services which has been driving their growth, has been the cloud business. They were six years ahead of everybody else. They were looking at a slowdown, less than was anticipated. Deirdre which is true, of course, but they are still growing at 35 . Granted, thats less than 45 , if you look at the Fourth Quarter of last year, and we had microsoft azure gaining on them for sure, and google has a product as well. Ashley to davids point, they reinvest a lot of money, spending billions expanding the footprints of their warehouses, their selection. Ultimately that will pay off once the infrastructure is in place. So the longterm bullish case is quite simple. Right now, internet sales, less than 10 of all retail sales. Many analysts think that will go to 25 . Who do you think of when you think of internet sales, amazon. Ditto with the cloud. Everyone is moving to the cloud. They are still number one. If you think cloud has legs, go with amazon. Deirdre 35 sales growth, i think theres a lot of businesses out there that would be pretty happy. Susan their concerns for the physical store segment which does include whole foods, by the way, which they purchased for 13 billion, steepest drop in sales over the past year. I think there will probably be a monday quarterbacking outlook on whether or not that 13 billion investment was a smart move. Ashley good point. Is this a buy on this dip . I think its a hold here. I think people, i mean, theres still this general rotation into value. Amazon is a classic growth name. I think you want to see how walmart and target respond. Do they match in terms of the oneday service or do they cut prices, saying a lot of people will take two days but pay less. Who knows. Ashley lets move on. More problems for boeing related to the 737 max. What more problems could they have . Deirdre well, its just confirmation of what i think a lot of people suspected but its official. National transport Safety Committee put out this report and essentially confirmed that there were design flaws in the 737 and that there were pilot failures but very much linked to the design flaws, meaning that you could not have a green or inexperienced pilot due to the way the software functioned, and there are a lot of engineers who said this pilot would have to be the most amazing pilot in the world to have dealt with that. Thats not really how you want a product to be, especially when you are selling it mass market to pilots of all levels and airlines of all levels. Ashley lets move on to tesla. Those shares got quite a pop after posting a surprise profit, they made money. What happened here . Susan i think it was the best single day advance for tesla in six years, right. Of course, we know that elon musk has been having this battle with the short sellers, people that want to see his stock drop, and thats why he actually tweeted funding secure back then and got in trouble with the s. E. C. But yesterday he was so happy with the profit because it killed the shorts. He said that in the earnings call, the short sellers lost about 1. 5 billion in that one single day because tesla somehow made their fourth profit in five years and will forecast backtoback quarterly profits which is unusual for the electric car maker, but Something Else thats positive, for tesla, the fact they are rolling out their model 3s in china. They started building and pumping factory activity in shanghai. Thats a big deal. First foreign car maker to get approval to operate their own factories in china on their own without having a joint venture partner. Apparently model 3s come with an auto pilot function but its selling at a pretty high price. You get more per car, that boosts your revenue per model. Ashley turning a corner, david dietze . I tip my hat to elon musk, amid all the disputes with china, he seems to still be working the system that shanghai is on track and having said that, from an investment point of view, i still have trouble getting my arms around the valuation. Of course, the jury is still out in my mind as to whether tesla isnt just a luxury car buyer or do they really have a competitive mass market offering. Ashley david, thanks. Lets take a look at the big board. We were down, look at this, well done, we turned it around. Up 27 points on the dow. 26,833. The s p trying to get back to the water mark. The nasdaq slightly lower. Guggenheim starts uber at buy with a 40 price target, implying a 20 pop from here, as you can see, the stock just slightly lower in the early going. Lets take a look at dow component j j after walmart, cvs, riteaid pulling the 22ounce j j baby powder off the shelves. Not doing anything to the stock. Its up about a third of a percent. Charter communications earnings and revenues, they beat and the market likes that. Up more than 5 on charter at 457. Dont forget about twitter. Got hammered yesterday. Today, slightly lower, down about half a percent or a little more. Twitter at 30. 53. We like to keep an eye on bitcoin. Up 176, right at 7,643. And some money going into gold this morning. Gold up 11. 50, right at 1516 per troy ounce on gold. Take a look at oil. Oil down 56. 12, down just 11 cents. But just slightly lower on oil. Of course, we like to keep an eye on the tenyear treasury yield. Stabilized, i like to say. Thats a dangerous thing to say. Its at 1. 76 on the tenyear yield. How about this. Facebook launching a news service but its only, i say only for select facebook users. How do i get to be one of those users . Susan 200,000 initially. I would say this is probably more of a test case and they are actually paying publishers these licensing fees because in the past, users were sharing articles across the entire 2. 3 billion user platform, but now, i guess these licensing fees will be varied across all the networks depending on who you are and how much you contribute. I think everyones on board. The big ones, abc, nbc, fox, New York Times, also bloomberg, everybody, conde nast as well. This is interesting because in the past, weve heard media barons, i wont name who, said we should be paid for our content given that most people get their news on facebook and social media. Ashley takes a lot of money. Susan thats right. Now they are willing to pay up, facebook is. Lets see how it goes. Ashley they will pick people at random . 200,000 . Susan theres probably an algorithm. Ashley quickly, good move for facebook . Absolutely. They have the eyeballs. The question is, how are additional ways to monetize that. News always makes sense, compared to making blockbuster films, news is still the most expensive. Of course, looking from the other point of view, what does this do to the small grassroots newspapers around america who wont be able to enjoy those licensing deals. Ashley david, thank you. Thank you for your comments on this interesting friday start. Thank you very much. Deirdre and susan, you will stay with us. Quick check of the big board. We have turned as we say, now we are up 55 points. Not bad. We were down about 50 points at the open. We have had nice 100 point swing. Up on the dow, 26,862. Now this. The world series is in our Nations Capital for the first time in nine decades. I dont think there was a team in there for a long time. Anyway, the Washington Nationals are up 20 going into tonights game three, but are some of the team staff already celebrating . That could be a jinx thing. Dont do it. We will go to the ballpark with more on that. Fan duel is betting big on what they call a sports equinox on sunday, when all four major American Sports have games on the same day. What happens if the nationals sweep tomorrow night and theres no baseball on sunday . That whole thing goes away. Fan duel on the show today. First, call of duty is out with its latest game. Reporter yeah, i can tell you that a source close to the trade talks told me they are actually still on for the phone call, that the Vice President s speech was not Strong Enough to have china cancel the phone call between the heads of the trade delegations. We are told from chinese trade sources that on that call, the chinese will ask for the december 15th tariffs to be removed, or not imposed. Thats the last round, if you remember, of the 300 billion worth of chinese imports coming into the country. Basically the stuff that we all buy for christmas will go under a tariff on december 15th. The calls still on and the chinese apparently, according to chinese sources, will ask for those december 15th tariffs not to be imposed. Ashley i guess a positive sign. The call is still on. Thank you very much. Appreciate that. Lets check the big board. As we see, we have been open now coming up to 15 minutes and the dow continues to slowly but surely move higher, up 67 points at 26,872. All right. Also, another look at ab inbev. Hard to read. I dont know why. Deirdre i was going to say. Ashley it lost 13 billion in value after warning about lower profits due to falling beer demand. The millenials like the craft beers, the hard seltzers, not bud so much. All right. That stock down, as you can see. More than 8 . A new release from call of duty. Remember that it is the biggest grossing entertainment title of all time. It dwarfs the likes of avengers and star wars and even harry potter joining us is tian wang with game of world news. 17 billion, almost double star wars which is the next highest. What is it about this game that makes it so popular . Well, i think its a very good question. I was thinking about this over the break. I would say that call of duty has actually been around since 2003. I guess it really boils down to the idea that geopolitical conflicts are exciting. Its something that has a lot of staying power on the news and its also, when youre building a video game that is based around that, it allows people to explore these conflicts from a very safe space. Ashley how does it rank against fortnite . I hear, you know, whenever we talk video games, we talk about fortnite but is this game much bigger than fortnite . Right. So this new call of duty game, if you were to compare it to fortnite, the revenue for fortnite was 4. 2 billion. Fortnite is not even a golden unicorn. Its like an alien golden unicorn, so rare within the industry. If you look at call of duty games, i would say they are comparable, like to most successful games like modern warfare 3 and black ops 2, they generated about 1. 2 billion. I will tell you that this new modern warfare game, i watched the campaign yesterday and judging by the excitement on youtube and from my personal viewing, i think this game is going to gross over 1 billion easily. Ashley so you say geopolitical conflicts are exciting and thats why these types of games are so popular. Putting the shoot em up, these things come with a story line and everything else, putting you in the action, so to speak, but are there any other type of video games that get traction out there . It seems these garwar games dominate. It seems like these days within the video game industry, there are sort of two areas. Theres mobile games which are very big microtransaction fests and when it comes down to triple a titles, a lot of it has to do with shooter type games, like call of duty is very popular. Fortnite is obviously very popular. And im not exactly sure whats causing this trend, because when i was younger there was a much more diversity in terms of video games but now its basically like if youre not playing a first person shooter, you are playing something that is more like league of legends. Ashley so put you on the spot. Whats your favorite game to play . My favorite game is actually starcraft 2. Its an old strategy game that not a lot of people play anymore. But its also not a very relaxing game to play because its sort of like a cross between playing piano and playing chess. You just have to constantly outthink your opponent. Very stressful. Ashley i would be absolutely rubbish at that based on those two things. Very good stuff. Thank you so much for joining us. Really appreciate it. My pleasure. Ashley lets take a look at the dow 30 stocks, if we can. We started lower but have turned things around. A little more green than red, as you can see. The dow up 65 points at 26,869. Back to politics. The 2020 democrat candidates talk a big game when it comes to the Green New Deal and Climate Change. But our next guest says they are actually full of hot air. A source close to the trade talks confirms that Vice President pences speech has not derailed the trade talks. The source says the phone call between the heads of the two trade teams is still on today, and that, as you can see, maybe explains why we have gotten a little boost in the market. The dow up 64 points. We started off down 50 points. 3m and cat, of course, the trade related stocks there helping the dow, as you can see caterpillar, 3m moving higher at this hour. Also check twitter. Ubs just cut its target price from 46 to 37. Right now, it stands at just over 30, down about another 1 today. All right. Check out this headline from fox news, from daniel turner. 2020 democrats love the Green New Deal, but embrace fossil fuels to power their campaigns. Hypocrisy i think is what we are talking about. Daniel joins us now. Hes the executive director of power the future. All right, thanks for being here. Thank you. Ashley make your case. All of these candidates that are running for the 2020 nomination, all embrace the Green New Deal. A tenet of the very radical Green New Deal is the abolition of fossil fuels. They have said they want to make air travel obsolete as part of their belief system but then when they leave the microphones and they leave all the sympathetic friends in the audience, they jump on private jets to the tune of joe biden, almost a Million Dollars last quarter. Pete buttigieg, almost 500,000. People like Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders, who want to outlaw fracking, they spend 300,000 and 400,000 on private jet travel. My question is this. If you really believe these things, then how come in your personal life, you dont implement them. How come you dont live what you want government to force me to live in your own personal life. I just want to know the answer to that. Ashley very good question. Because listen, this is a big country and it takes, you know, planes are part of life because if you have to get from one place to another, often you have to take a plane. Taking a train is just not, you know, feasible and probably not Climate Friendly anyway. Its not just the planes. Its private air travel. Its private jets. So why cant you drive from des moines to sioux city . I dont want to spend the three hours. Im going to charter a jet. I would love to charter a jet. I cant afford it. I dont have the resources to. But they dont fly commercial, even. They fly on private jets, which if you think carbon is your enemy, if carbon is causing Climate Change, all these things they preach, so i just want to ask them to practice what they want the rest of us ashley they have had many meetings, these Global Climate meetings where they all do jet in. Always in beautiful resorts. Ashley always in beautiful resorts and surely, do they respond to that question . Because its a classic question. Exactly. There was the last big Climate Summit held by the google executives held in italy. 114 private jets flew to this Global Climate summit. Megayachts that burn 300,000 gallons of diesel to cross the atlantic, no one could just jump on a skype call . Why cant anyone teleconference . Ashley if they never held that conference we would be much better off. Quickly, mcdonalds launching a new chicken sandwich. Is this balls all because of cl change and cows . They have to go where Market Trends are. Veganism and alternative beef, thats a current trend right now so thats fine if mcdonalds wants to do it. Heres the thing. If you care about the earth, you care about animals, you should be a capitalist. The cleanest nations are capitalist. And the best preservation for land, air, trees, water, is privately held. Be a capitalist if you are an environmentalist. Ashley great place to leave it. Thanks so much for being here. Appreciate it. All right, now this. Ceo dan price made headlines a few years ago when he raised his employees minimum wage to 70,000 a year. Well, hes at it again. Hes here to explain his logic. Good story. Voters rejected Hillary Clinton in 2016. We know that. But speculation persists that she will take another crack at the white house. How do College Students feel about that one . Were on it. Ask your parkinsons specialist about nuplazid. Ashley coming up 10 a. M. On the east coast. 7 00 a. M. On the west coast. Im Ashley Webster in for stuart today. Were getting numbers on Consumer Sentiment in just a few seconds. Were off 50 points. Now were up 52 points on the dow. Maybe helped by news the trade talks, at least the phone calls between the heads of two trade groups between the u. S. And china are indeed still talking. Lets get to susan li. We have Consumer Sentiment numbers, so important. Susan 95. 5. This is the final october Consumer Sentiment read. Less than the initial, advanced one we got beginning of october which was at 96. A slight dip. I dont think it was terrible. Still Shows Consumers are feeling more positive, but maybe still cautious given that we do have sweet slowing in the u. S. Economy. Overall still positive. Ashley still positive. A maybe a little come down on. Up 45 on the dow. Thank you very much, susan. Strong numbers from amazon and visa. Amazon was down on latest results. People are spending money, using credit cards to do it. Joining us market watcher brent. Thanks for being here. Seems like the consumer as we like to see leading the economy. Would you agree. Absolutely. Anybody looking for recession from the consumer side needs to look at Something Else. Fundamentals for the consumer past 12 years, they rebuilt Balance Sheets. Debt to equity on consumer Balance Sheet is 1984 levels. The cost of the debt is 40 year lows because of low Interest Rate environment. Theyre getting wage gains, real key term. Wages rising 3 1 2 . Inflation is muted. We do think, sentiment goes back and forth. Look at underlying fundamentals theyre very strong. Ashley what do you make of the earning so far . Generally positive . The bar was low enough to jump over. I think market is delineating between winners and losers. Longer term whether the market goes up or down dependent what happens if there is recession or not. Earnings drives individual companies. Overall macro drives the market. Ashley what about the fed . Expectinging a cut next week mae another one in december, what do you think . Market is pricing in 94 probability of a cut. I dont think the fed wants to disappoint the market to watch the market fall. The fed is tailwind, not a headwind. Biggest thing for the market goes higher, more walking back of the trade war. If that happens, uncertainty comes down, i think you see market move higher to beginning of 2020. Ashley those argue, really this economy is certainly slowing but still humming along pretty well. Really the fed, doesnt really need to make a rate cut. Certainly know market is expecting one next week. Maybe not to the end of december, if the economy keeps way it is going . Yeah. If you look at traditional underlying fundamentals, if you look at traditional business cycle, everything is ticking along on normal cycle. Just at delayed pace. So one thing, reason why the fed, that would be reason why the fed wouldnt cut. I think right now the fed wants to make insurance cuts to make sure they dont cause recession. I think they will cut next week. They will wait to see what happens on the trade war front. I think that is the primary reason the u. S. Economy slowed. Ashley you dont see any recession in the near future . We dont. One thing causes recession would be uncertainty from the trade war which we dont think will do so more importantly we dont think the administration wants to find out if they can. Were 12 month from election. The president needs a strong economy, strong market to get reelected. I dont think he wants to risk that 12 months before. Ashley brent, thank you very much for joining us. Appreciate it. Switching gears, one everpaul bear remembers from Elijah Cummings funeral refused to shake Mitch Mcconnells hand. Tammy bruce, that is pretty petty behavior in inappropriate setting. It is. What the American People do and dont like, the good example was Paul Wellstone memorial. Wellliked senator from minnesota. That turned into the democrats a political rally. That i am, everyone was disgusted. Because there is, we know that we can disagree on the issues, et cetera. My goodness, this is a funeral. The, mr. Mcconnell had delivered a very nice eulogy. I mean this is, people see this in some ways as a family. We dont necessarily see that all the time of course. But it was, it is petty, inappropriate. It was unfortunate to see mcconnell look so shocked and surprised. Ashley yes. I hope that moves more into disappointment. That the American People, that, this is, i think it should be rejected most people dont like it. And, i just immediately thought of the wellstone debacle for the democrats. Ashley next one, tammy, Bernie Sanders slamming joe biden over superpac campaign donations. Hear what he said. Roll tape. Well, joe biden didnt have to convince me not to take not to start a superpac. We have a situation today where billionaires can spend as much money as they want to elect candidates that represent the wealthy and the powerful. Ashley reaction to that . Theyre in a bind. Republicans and President Trump raised a historical amount of money. That is reflection of the enthusiasm gap. Democrats are not raising any money. Theyre now in debt. Democratic party is in debt. Gop has 55 million on hand. Historical records when it comes to the money that is being raised by the rnc and the trillion campaign. They have that enthusiasm. It is, clearly his campaign has been about the individual and about, you know the base and thats very good. But in order to compete in this country, one has to have money and i think that he knows that, i think it is safe to say he wont be the nominee but this is part of the social argument about who should being able to have a political voice. But once again there is demonization of people with money. Were all on the same road. Some people are more ahead of others as were all moving forward to achieving what matters to us financially. Most of us slam middle class, perfectly happy, having enough money to lives. Some are more ambitious, have Remarkable Ideas that change the world, who are billionaires, Start Companies and employ thousands of people, the American Dream. There is this kind of hit at the successful which is inappropriate. They deserve a political voice. But so dot individual and clearly combination of barack obama showed us how to do this. Small donation, reaching out through the internet. Engaging those individuals, while also you need money to move your message and of course the republicans are far ahead. Nothing that Bernie Sanders says clearly has made a difference in the enthusiasm. Ashley right. That is what the republicans are leading with right now. Ashley final one, tammy. New poll from cnn. Joe bidens lead among democrats check that out, leads 34 . Elizabeth warren has 19 . Bernie sanders coming at 16 . If joe biden the moderate turning out to be the one to beat . We saw that at the beginning, when he first said im in. He started to lose ground a little bit. He has this strategy, i should lay low, keep my mouth shut . This could be more reflection of what democrats dont like. And it is almost like, the safe harbor. And youre not sure what is in the harbor. You dont like the harbor. The harbor is kind of stormy not over there with exploding ashley right. The democrats dont have a lot of choices. Thats difficult. Also of course, that appears to be a national poll. Clearly the nomination is going to be one from primary to primary, from state to state. So that also is not a good indication. If you, yes, if you used california only regarding hillary, youre going to see extra votes, versus what will happen in the nation. Ashley right. When it comes to the electoral college. Primary framework will matter. These can be somewhat misleading. It does reflect, i think a general chaos with the democrats about what is going on. Hillary has been making noise coming in. Ashley do you think that will happen . Let me tell you if that were to occur, with some people, i dont like any democrats that are running. They have stepped up. Some are running. Theyre ruining their lives being exposed who they are like beto orourke. It is very strange. Theyre meeting criteria to be in the debates. Theyre raising money. Getting donors. Theyre working hard. If she were to come in again with accusations last time of stealing nomination it, would harken back to that. It is insulting, for her also to be at this point say, oh, well, i can do it, nobody thinks anybody else can win, what an insult to everybody else and to those, supporters of those people. Let them win people over as opposed to the, like the obamas and the clintons who effectively destroyed the party and left regular democrats with a field that is so out of touch. Clearly that doesnt seem to be the answer. Anything is possible. She may do it, but it would be i think, people running now and Democratic Base would have plenty to complain about. Ashley very good. Tammy, thank you so much. Tammy bruce. Thank you. Ashley game three of the world series is tonight on fox. The first World Series Game in d. C. Since the 1930s, are some of the team staff already celebrating . It could be a jinx. Dont do it. Well go to the ballpark for more. Huge weekend of sports. 26 games across all leagues will play sunday. Sports betting guys, fanduel are calling it a sports equinox. What happens if nationals sweep. Fanduel is coming up. 2020, it is all about the latino vote. What does the president need to do to secure that vote . Well ask floridas Lieutenant Governor. Speculation that Hillary Clinton, we talked about it with tammy will run in 2020 is mounting. How do College Students feel about that . Our next guest went on campus and asked them. We have what they had to say next. It is fascinating. See thats funny, i thought you traded options. Im not really a wall street guy. Whats the hesitation . Eh, it just feels too complicated, you know . Well sure, at first, but jj can help you with that. Jj, will you break it down for this gentleman . Hey, ian. You know, at Td Ameritrade, we can walk you through your options trades step by step until youre comfortable. I could be up for that. Thats taking options trading from wall st. To main st. Hey guys, wanna play some pool . Eh, im not really a pool guy. Whats the hesitation . Its just complicated. Stepbystep options trading support from Td Ameritrade ashley take a look at the big board. Were up 74 points on the dow. Maybe some december news i guess or encouraging news of the trade talks over the phone carry on, despite what Vice President mike pence had to say about china. The dow up 77 points at 26,883. Check j j. Cvs pulling 22ounce bottles of baby powder from the stores but hurting the stock. J j at 127. We talked about this with tammy bruce in the last segment. There is speculation that Hillary Clinton will run in 2020. How do college kids feel about that. Campus reform went to George Washington university, asked that very question. Take a listen. Come on, no. Probably not. I would not vote for Hillary Clinton in 2020 for the same reason i did not vote for her in 2016. Im antiinterventionallist. No. You can see by my hat, im a Bernie Sanders supporter. I feel like i would be afraid i would be wasting my vote. I dont think she has much of a chance. She had her shot in 2016. Im tired of hearing about her. Sounds like she is kind of complaining. Ashley it goes on. I think he is saying what a lot of people think. Eduardo is with me now. Seems like the student are overwhelmingly, against the idea of hillary running again . Yeah. Look. I wanted to see if student would support Hillary Clinton if she decided to jump in the race. Much like rest of america, far left campus students really hate Hillary Clinton. There are several reasons of that. For most of their lives Hillary Clinton has been in the public eye. Theyre sick and tired of her. They want new blood. Other thing consistent with Leadership Institute of campus reform, College Students are drifting toward the far left, like mainstream democratic party. See candidates like Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, they like free college, free stuff, they hear that, dont understand what the policies mean. They want in on that, some of that free stuff. Ashley interesting. Did you find anyone on campus, eduardo, said i wouldnt mind hillary having a go. One student in the video your viewers can watch. She supported Hillary Clinton. I am supporting clinton because i want a woman. Hillary clinton doesnt have the card anymore, like tulsi gabbard, Elizabeth Warren, Hillary Clinton doesnt have much to offer being the only female candidate. If Hillary Clinton jumps into the race, she will have hard time getting young voters, millenial voters are sick and tired of her, tired of status quo and establishment politicians. Ashley one talked about Bernie Sanders. Who was the most popular in your survey. It was Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren. Some of the students even admitted to me offcamara, they said im voting for Bernie Sanders because he will get rid of my student loan debt. It thats simple. The problem is, it sounds nice but these students havent spent a day in the real world. What that means if they were in the real world, they understand that free college is not free at all. They would have to pay for it with taxes. That cost will be passed along to someone. Bernie sanders and Elizabeth Warren definitely have the College Students in their corner. That is what theyre look for. It would be interesting to see if one of candidates are nominee, how many vote for them. Ashley free stuff is always a good platform. Thanks for joining us. Interesting story, ceo who caused a media firestorm, i dont know if it was a firestorm, this after he gave all his seattlebased staff, 70,000 minimum wage level. He did this a few years ago. Now he is at it again. This time in boise, idaho. Dan price, ceo of gravity payments. Dan, i remember when you were on the show the last time. How is it going . You started the 70,000 pay level. That was the minimum in seattle a number of years ago. Is that exactly the same amount of money youre doing now for the company in boise . Yes, ashley. So just like in seattle where were scaling it in over three years. The same way in boise. But in boise it is interesting, i grew up there. Homeschooled kid, out in the country outside of boise. My grandma lived five minutes from our new office. We acquired a company there, majority of employees were making under 30,000 a year. Now everybody will make 70,000 a year. It is pretty fun thing to be a part of so far. Ashley i understand. Seattle is expensive. 70,000, okay, boise i would imagine has much lower cost of living. So that is a huge amount of money, correct . Yes. But theres a trend here that is affecting it which is private equity firms and kind of financial interests are taking over more and more business. So it is becoming about squeezing more and more profit out of these companies. Of course amazon is leading the way with automation. Were starting to treat people more like computers. At gravity, we think actually people have a lot of creativity, have a lot to bring to the table. We think everybody should be paid in alignment with that philosophy. Ashley your company is credit card processing company. Since you went with 70,000 in seattle, how has that affected turnover . People because of guaranteed wage, are they staying longer . Do you have a happier workforce, do you think. Absolutely. We had our turnover almost cut in half. Were here competing against amazon in seattle, all the other Big Tech Companies where people switch seats every few years. Were not seeing that. What is even better, were seeing firsttime Home Ownership double or triple. Voluntary savings rate through the 401 k double or triple. Best of all, had zero to two babies born in the company, last four years, were well over 30 babies. People are moving into having great, full, fulfilling lives, not only at work but also away from work. Ashley fascinating. Economic security plays into that. Dan, if i remember, you had a originally pay package of around 1. 1 million. You agreed i think, correct me if im wrong, you slashed your own salary to 70,000 a year. Are you still there . Are you giving yourself a break . I am still there. I went from 1. 1 million to 70,000. At the time i announced that, my intention was to go back to my old pay once we recovered. We recovered our profits back. Were triple the size but im just really enjoying this kind of more egalitarian system. I think there is a lot of wealthy people out there that if they tried Something Like this out, where they had more of egalitarian structure, i think they would enjoy it more than they would ever think. Ashley fascinating stuff. Im sure well have you back. Dan, thanks for joining us on this friday. Really appreciate it. Thank you, ashley. Nice to be with you. Ashley interesting. One of his friends telling him theyre charging 150 to park a car. In terms of the tickets, online sites, stubhub, cheapest for two tickets, 1000 each. That is standing room only. You dont get a seat. Most expensive 15,000 behind my left, home plate. Get a couple seats, 15,000 each. Who will be here, we will not see President Trump. He plans to come over on sunday, if there is a game. It is possible the nationals could win next two. He is planning coming to game 5. The last game here was in 30s when the washington senators. The president at the time first year in office, fdc. Franklin roosevelt did come over to the old stadium for a game. He threw out the first pitch. That was back then. This is now. The nationals have a lot going for them, ashley. Well have a fun day. Well host after the bell, live from the stadium. A few surprise guests lined up. Theyre up two games to none. Give you a quick stat. The last 11 times a team has won the first two games of a world series, that team has gone on to win the entire series. The numbers are on the national side. To your point the city is fired up. Not about something divisive but about baseball. Ashley a nice change. Quickly, connell, what is this about the nationals seen practicing the trophy presentation . Im a big believer in the jinx and that is not a good move i dont think. Maybe not. In fairness i saw somebody posted a picture out in centerfield yesterday. They had a whole platform set up apparently. You got to practice it, right . I wonder if they would have done that if they lost the first two games. You have to practice is it. Maybe that is not the best karma. I dont know. Ashley well see. Connell mcshane, nationals park. Great stuff as always. Appreciate it. All right. Ashley the jinx. Lets get back to pg e, Pacific Gas Electric again. It has been a wild morning for this stock. Gerri willis is with us from the New York Stock Exchange. What can you tell us . Reporter here is what is going on, a citi analyst says the kincaid fire a fire in Northern California that burned 21,900acres, it is only 5 contained. It has the possibility of taking this stock to zero, this from a citi analyst. The stock moving on this as you can see. It is down quite a bit. The analyst believes, im reading from a note, the kincaid fire increases the probability of a zero share price for pg e. The kincaid fire covered some, well, 21,900acres. Meta, the analyst says, shareholders are worried and should be, end quote. Back to you. Ashley wow, that says it all. The stock not very pretty look certainly on todays action. Gerri willis from the latest from pg e. Youre welcome. Ashley pbs, politico, they announced they will host the sixth democratic primary debate. There is lot of debates. Probably more to come. Susan december 19th in los angeles. Mark your calendars. To qualify for the debate because some of the Democratic Candidates have been tweeting this out, that includes andrew yang, you have to get 4 in four polls or 5 in two early states. So theyre trying to whittle it down the field since we still have 12 to 15 on the stage. Doesnt make making for long debate. I will hell tu that. More dynamic. Ashley right. Susan theyre trying to whittle it down. December 19th. Ashley maybe that will whittle it down. Thank you, susan. Speaking of elections, florida will be a big swing state in the 2020 election. It is all about securing the latino vote. Lets bring in florida Lieutenant Governor Jeanette Nunez with us in new york. She is cochair of latinos for trump. So nice to have you here. What does the president has to do to try to win over the support of the latino population in florida . What does he have to do . What is he not doing that he should be doing . Thank you for the opportunity to be here today. I would say, quite simply he needs to continue to doing what he is doing. He needs to focus on issues. The Latino Community cares about. That is issues of the economy. Forward mobility, opportunity within our educational systems. Making sure he is addressing key issues like Prescription Drug reform which he did, he announced recently in florida. Those are things that at the end of the day, when you look what we really care about. We care about opportunity. We care about family. We care about faith. We care about things that will move our Community Forward and quite frankly we care about things every american cares about. Ashley that is biggest strength, as long as the economy humming along, record low unemployment, rising wages is he getting that point across . I think he is. We have responsibility, ill chair of the latino coalition. Very proud to do that. Looking forward to work more on behalf of this president and all the great things he has done. Economy, historic low for the Latino Community. Wages on the rise. Homeownership on the rise. Nothing reverberates the American Dream louder than owning your own home. Ashley have you done polling and what does the polling tell you . Polling, historically you saw the numbers for latino in 16. Really looking to outpace those numbers. I think a lot of what were going to be doing, honing in on those key messages. Key record of success. Looking at all the great accomplishments under this administration. Really propelling that forward. Making sure our message is told. It is told frequently. We continue to speak about all of the great successes under this president. Ashley strong immigration stance resonate with the latino population . I will tell you, im the daughter of immigrant, so i understand from a firsthand perspective the challenges. But what i will tell you when my parents came to this country fleeing communism and oppression, they understood they were coming into a country of laws. That is message at that gets muddled with the debate, lack of action in congress. Im very certain, when you look at all of the data, look at record of achievement this president has had, the Latino Community will come out in droves. Ashley wee leave it there. Jeanette nunez, Lieutenant Governor of florida. Thank you for having me. Ashley now this story, google maps introducing a new feature that will alert drivers to police locations. Sounds good for the drivers but how do police feel about that . Im asking the president of Blue Lives Matter new york city, next. Limu emu doug and now for their service to the community, we present limu emu doug with this key to the city. [ applause ] its an honor to tell you that Liberty Mutual customizes your Car Insurance so you only pay for what you need. And now we need to get back to work. [ applause and band playing ] only pay for what you need. Liberty. Liberty. Liberty. Liberty. Ashley my, oh, my. Check this out. Look at the big board. The dow up 122 points. Part is due to the trade optimism, not bad trade news, the two sides, u. S. And china still talking by phone, even though we have harsh words from the Vice President mike pence on china. I think market taking some cheer from that. The dow at 26,930. On to this story now, wild fires continue to rage for california, as the state prepares for the biggest round of blackouts. Jonathan hunt in los angeles for latest on this story. It gets worse and worse. Jonathan . Reporter ashley, were in canyon country, north of los angeles where 40,000 people are currently under evacuation orders and some 10,000 buildings, we are told are under threat. This is one of at least half a dozen homes that already has been destroyed by what is called the tick fire here. It broke out 1 30 p. M. Local time yesterday. We still have been getting these gusty winds, blowing embers across these homes. That is when they catch fire. You can see the firefighters here look their best to douse the flames to make sure no further embers to proon to other homes. Im being told to wrap. Ashley. Back to you. Ashley jonathan, we got message from you. Those wind are brutal. Santa anas move fires quickly. Jonathan, thank you. Google maps introducing a new feature to alert drivers to police locations. Good for drivers but what about the police . Lets bring in the founder of Blue Lives Matter nyc. Joe, i would imagine, as a member of the police force . Youre not happy with this and basically tells drivers there are police locations here in the city, basically telling them where to drive to avoid them . I feel like there should be a panel that discusses this with Law Enforcement professionals before they put option into place. This is not about speeding. Here this about ceos defending, individuals wanted for terrible crimes, rape, robbery, burglary, transporting guns and drugs. People who are drunk going through residential neighborhoods possibly could kill somebody. If they were not tipped off, that wouldnt happen. Detective liu was tipped off by individual, came from baltimore. First person he shot and killed. How would be it for person with that mind set, see that location, take them out. It is not a food out. Ashley i want to ask you about the citizen app, you can look where crimes are, where they took place, how police responded, are you more positive on that one . That is great, great app. If you have kids and family you want to know what is going on. You want to stay away from certain neighborhoods and giving heads up to individuals they need to stay safe. Ashley interesting. From your perspective police, technology is good thing, can be used for so many good things, as you pointed out with the first app, not always so good. Must be hard for the police force to gauge everything that is going on out there. Especially when it helps the criminals. Day and age harder to be a police officer, scrutinized, you dont need bad guys being tipped off to have the advantage and we can give bad guys and criminals a heads up to possibly cause damage in neighborhoods were trying to protect. Ashley im sorry so short. Big day of news. Joe, appreciate it. Thank you. Nba halloffamer Charles Barkley had choice words for Vice President pence after the vp criticized the nba over china. Well tell you what he had to say. President heads to South Carolina where he speaks at historically black college. He will depart the white house in the next hour. Well keep an eye if he talks to reporters. If he does, well bring it to you. Third hour of Varney Company after this. As a Financial Advisor you have to listen. You listen to your clients goal of sending her daughter to the music school of her dreams. And you help her turn it into reality. Principal. We can help you plan for that. Start today at principal. Com. Ashley all right. It is 11 00 a. M. In new york, 8 00 a. M. In california. Good morning to you. The markets right now, moving nicely higher. The dow up now 143 points. Perhaps some trade optimism. Well wait and see. We have seen it before but right now, the dow up half a percent. Also happening this hour, by the way, President Trump departing for South Carolina. If he stops to talk to reporters and he likes to do that, of course you will hear it here first. First, i want to talk about facebook. We know chief executive Mark Zuckerberg was on the hill this week. He was grilled endlessly by lawmakers about libra, political ads and so much more. Our next guest is saying congress, well, may have gone too far with their questioning. David nicholas is here, president of nicholas wealth management. All right, david, what do you mean by that . Make your case. Absolutely. Well, it was really rather appalling in my opinion to see how some on the committee treated Mark Zuckerberg, someone who created value for two billion users worldwide. Many of these democrats have never created a job, nor do they know what one looks like if it was right in front of them but specifically representative ocasiocortez, she essentially said Mark Zuckerberg and facebook should be responsible for making sure politicians arent lying on facebook, essentially the censor of political speech. She needs to be careful what she asks for because she would win the award for lying on facebook. If you remember earlier this year when she said the world would end in 12 years if we didnt pass the Green New Deal. Obviously not true. Also, that the Green New Deal would save america from Climate Change which is what the goal of it was, when it really turns out her chief of staff said it was just a marxist takeover of the u. S. Economy and the last one, where they said the Green New Deal would not pay individuals who are unwilling to work, yet the proposal itself said that it would provide Economic Security for all americans. Even those willing to work. So if lying is the standard, i think her Facebook Page would be shut down. So its really awful to see and i hate that we saw that display this week. Ashley its interesting, despite all the arrows shot at facebook not only during succeederbergs lasucceed zuckerbergs latest appearance on the hill, but earnings come out next week. At this level, we are at 188, is this a buy in your mind . Youre right, all the political distraction has kind of taken away from the story. That is the stock is doing great. Facebook is coming off four consecutive quarters of beating analyst expectations. Right now, we have it as a hold but if theres any pullback i think it makes for a great buying opportunity. Ashley stay there for a second. Weve got more news on facebook. They are launching their news app but only to select users. How do you get picked for this . Liz so heres whats going on. This is a sea change, for the first Time Facebook is going to start paying news publications for the use of their stories on its site. Basically, facebook has a flawless record, its been criticiz criticized, of basically building on other peoples land, then bulldozing them without paying them. Its sort of like wall street derivatives, making money off other peoples quality goods. Thats what facebook has been accused of, not paying publications. Now its abc, New York Times, l. A. Times, wall street journal, new york post, news corps products, could get millions of dollars in licensing fees. For years, facebook was using the stories without paying for the overhead, without paying for the journalists who put their lives on the line in many instances ashley basically users of facebook, if theyre on this service, do they have to pay for this . Liz we dont know just yet. Click on a link and you will go right to the website itself. Not sure how this payment stream will come in. Ashley interesting. They are actually paying for content. Liz first time. Ashley thank you. David, your thoughts on this . Good move by facebook . I want to go back to the time when i just saw cute photos of puppies on facebook. I dont want to be forcefed news from far left sources that are essentially putting an agenda out there. I dont like it. I dont want facebook to get distracted by this. I think they should focus on ad revenue and a user experience. Ashley interesting view. Also, we have heard this time and time again, millenials spending more but youre saying they are actually one of the powerhouses behind the economy. They are spending. Is that right . You know, i think its gotten to the point where a lot of moms have finally decided to kick their millenial kids out of the basement. But from 1981 to 2000, millenials are now the largest population bloc in the u. S. Demographics drives Economic Growth so its really millenials and millenial spending that are going to continue to drive growth as long as we maintain low unemployment, you have to look where millenials are spending and own those type companies. Thats where we will see success Going Forward. Ashley last time you were on the show, you were very hot on ford, if i remember rightly. Well, they disappointed with their earnings. Sales in china are slipping. You still think its a buy right now . You know, i do. The reason for that, if you are an Income Investor you will get almost a 7 dividend. If you are a growth investor its probably not the stock for you. They just revised down two cents a share, 2 billion in profit from north america. A lot of individuals in the u. S. Love their ford trucks. I think its a good buy if you are an Income Investor, a good buy if you are a growth investor, i think its a hold. Dont go out and sell ford just yet. Ashley 7 impressive on the dividend. As always, thanks for joining us. Thank you. Ashley all right. Speaking of ford, we told you about the new suv that they have been working on a few weeks ago. Its all electric and its said to be mustanginspired. Ford has been keeping its appearance tightly under wraps. They are finally going to show it off next month, right before the l. A. Auto show. Its set to go on sale, by the way, next year sometime. We dont know the exact date. Its kind of a little outline there. Looks kind of cool. Lets shift gears to tesla. They have just begun selling their model 3 with auto pilot in china. They are also entirely made in china. They are going for right around 50,000 u. S. You can check teslas stock on that news. Nice gain again today. Even after they had that huge bump yesterday, thats another 4. 5 today. Tesla at 330. Lets not forget they actually reported a profit. What a concept. Fantastic stuff. Take a look at uber. Guggenheim just upgraded the stock to a buy setting a price target of 40. Right now its at 33. The market not exactly impressed with that grade. As you can see, uber up at 33. 33. Bernie sanders says he would legalize marijuana in the first hundred days as president. Is he grasping at straws to get votes . No. We will talk about that. Retired nba star Charles Barkley had some choice words for Vice President pence after the vp criticized the nbas dealing with china. You will hear what he had to say. And President Trump will be departing for South Carolina this hour. If he stops to speak to reporters, you know he likes to do that, you will hear it here. Sorry about that. Liz really feeling the bern. Long weekend at bernies. Heres what hes saying. By the way, he was the first president ial candidate to talk about doing this. He was i think the first senator to introduce legislation to decriminalize marijuana. Hes saying its hitting the minority population really hard, first 100 days if hes elected, remove it from schedule i, get it out of there. He would also expunge, erase all prior criminal convictions in federal and state for pot, for marijuana. He would automate it. Heres the other thing he wants to do, its really interesting. He wants to Ban Tobacco Companies and he wants to set up more quote, nonprofit, maybe coopes in the marijuana industry. Could run a taxexempt ashley could be interesting. Long weekend at bernies. I want to stay on pot, if i can. Remember these guys . Hexo, canadian legal pot producer. They are in the news last week saying they were going to start underselling the black market, offering cheaper marijuana. Sounded like a plan. Now they are cutting jobs. Deirdre 200 of them. Essentially they are saying there is smaller than expected demand from the Canadian Cannabis market. Even though they were trying to undercut the nonlicensed growers and distributors, you know, there are still people growing it, whether they have a license or not, who are selling it globally for a lot cheaper. Essentially they also have structural issues which when you were up north you saw for yourself. Actually in these legal shops, its for some reason very hard to get from the growers to the shops. Ashley it is. Its just a distribution problem. Meanwhile, the black market is continuing to offer on the spot at a much cheaper price, same problem in california because pot in california is so expensive because of all the rules and regulations. Deirdre oddly enough, slower demand. Ashley which is interesting. Canadian pot company struggling just a little bit. Next case, President Trump headed to Benedict College in South Carolina later this hour. He will be touting the success of the First Step Act as a Justice Reform forum there. Lets bring in tim murtaugh, trump 2020 communications director. Great to have you here. Benedict is an historically black college and the president is pulling less than ideal numbers from the africanamerican population. Does this kind of event help the president gain a little more ground in this particular population . I think so, because the president has an excellent story to tell for black voters. Hes at a historically black college today, in fact, he is the president who has dedicated the most money to historically black colleges and universities than any other president in the history of this country. Thats an important thing for the students there to hear about and for people nationwide to hear about. Also, the Unemployment Rate among African Americans in this country is at its lowest point in history. At the same time, what he will be talking about today, the First Step Act, the president is giving Second Chances to an awful lot of people who have made mistakes in their lives and ended up incarcerated, giving them a Second Chance at life and letting them out of prison a little early. 90 of the people who have been released from prison early under this program are black. So these are excellent, excellent points that the president is going to be hitting today and i think as he continues on the trail and he will make a really strong argument that black voters should give a real hard look at supporting him for his reelection. Ashley why is South Carolina maybe not a historically black college in say ohio . Well, the president is going to be campaigning and doing his official visits all over the country. This visit today is in his capacity as president of the United States. So if youre talking about why be in South Carolina, hes going to visit all parts of the country as president of the United States. From our perspective on a campaign, youre going to go and visit a lot of states that you won and also some states that you think you can flip, if youre talking about a political visit. Its why the president has made Campaign Appearances in florida, for example, which we have high confidence that we are going to win again but hes also been to minnesota and new mexico recently because those are states that the democrats held in 2016 that we believe that the president can put in his column next time. So i think you campaign where there are people who supported you and who helped get you into office, and you also campaign where you think you can get people to come to your side who werent there last time. Ashley very good. Got one more for you. We have gotten word that mr. Trump doesnt want federal agencies reading the New York Times or the Washington Post so hes going to stop all deliveries to them. Is that going too far . When it comes to free speech . Or do you think thats a legitimate strategy . I dont think the First Amendment guarantees that people have to buy your publication. Ashley but they should be free to make up their own mind. I mean, people can still read them online, no doubt. But i dont think the First Amendment requires that the tax payers buy subscriptions to these publications, either. Of course its within the president s rights to do that. Ashley have to leave it there. Thanks as always for joining us. Thank you. Thank you very much. Ashley quick stock check for you. Another down day as target has joined a slew of retailers pulling their baby powder from shelves. But not having an impact on the stock. In fact, its up nearly 1 . We also have this news breaking. Felicity huffman is being released from prison early for good behavior. She was originally sentenced to two weeks behind bars, 14 days, for her role in the College Admissions scandal, but served just 11 days. She was also ordered to perform Community Service and was fined tens of thousands of dollars. What do you think, guys . There was a criticism she only got 14 days and now shes being let out early. Liz its a humiliating period for her. Yes, she admits that what she did was wrong. Shes leading the way in pleading guilty and now thats opening up other you know, shes a Screen Actors Guild winner, emmy, golden globe winner. What she did was wrong. She said that. Now shes being released early. Deirdre which is actually different than some of the other celebrities. I remember seeing Lori Loughlins defense and it was she was a lot, for better or worse, less contrite. I do think these judges did want to send a message and actually have them serve some amount of jail time. Because it was so egregious. Ashley couple of big movers in the world of real estate. First up, this gigantic guitarshaped hotel just had its grand opening in florida. Who wouldnt want to stay there. Im sure emac made her reservations. Liz so you stay in a guitar, im sure some people ashley dont fret about it. Deirdre oh, no. Liz some people may feel like theyre staying in a drum. 1. 5 billion expansion. If you fly into Fort Lauderdale you will see this thing. Its aqua glass, in the shape of a guitar. Its 189 to 520 a night. Depending on the room. 19 restaurants, 20 bars. Pretty cool thing. Maroon 5 will perform at the inaugural show at the hard rock near there. We have never seen this before. Neon glass aqua guitar. Ashley i didnt know Fort Lauderdale was i mean, its hard rock. Anyway, have to move on. We can talk about this ad nauseam. Next up, what was the most expensive home in the country, a 12 bedroom l. A. Hideaway was put on the market for 250 million two years ago. Well, lets just say it sold for a lot less than that. How much . Deirdre 94 million. That is a serious writedown. This place is crazy. I almost hesitate to call it a home. Its like an entertainment compound. It has three kitchens. It just has whatever you can imagine, extreme, extreme. It has it, including an auto gallery. Please note, not a garage, but an auto gallery. 30 million fleet of exotic cars, motorcycles. Thats just one little feature. Ashley it had fox business l. A. Bureau written all over it. For some reason we didnt get it. Deirdre nobody listens to us. Ashley the new most expensive home in the country just down the road from maralago, just went to a Billionaire Hedge Fund guy. Big surprise. How much . Liz 200 million. So it has 350 feet of waterfront property, sits on the intercoastal as well intracoastal. Its a whopping big compound. His neighbors are going to be ken griffin, another hedge fund guy, rod stewart, yeah. About two miles away from maralago. Ashley all right, thank you. Now this. The call of duty has been the most successful entertainment franchise ever, with sales surpassing even some of the most iconic movie series. We will show you the numbers and tell you about the new game that was just released. As we head to break, check the big board. The dow off 200 points. Ill take credit for this. Even though after china said that Vice President pences speech yesterday did not derail the trade talks. That gave hope to the markets. Those talks today, we understand, have concluded. We will get an update from Edward Lawrence right after this. [grunting] [maniacal laughter] gold. Gold right, uh. Thank you, for that, bob. But i think its time we go with gbtc. Its bitcoin exposure through a traditional investment account. Nice rock. Its time to drop gold. Go digital. Go grayscale. Hi, my name is sam davis and im going to tell you about exciting plans available to anyone with medicare. Many plans provide broad coverage and still may save you money on monthly premiums and Prescription Drugs. With original medicare, youre covered for hospital stays and Doctor Office visits, but you have to meet a deductible for each and then youre still responsible for 20 of the cost. Next, lets look at a Medicare Supplement plan. As you can see, they cover the same things as original medicare and they also cover your medicare deductibles and coinsurance. But they often have higher monthly premiums and no Prescription Drug coverage. Now, lets take a look at humanas Medicare Advantage plans. With a humana medicare plan, hospital stays, Doctor Office visits and medicare deductibles are covered. And, of course, most humana Medicare Advantage plans include Prescription Drug coverage. In fact, in 2018, humana Medicare Advantage Prescription Drug plan members saved an estimated 7400, on average, on their prescription costs. Most humana Medicare Advantage plans help you stay active and keep fit by including a Silver Sneakers Fitness Program at no extra cost. And, you may be able to save on dental and vision expenses, because coverage is now included with most humana Medicare Advantage plans. You get all this coverage for as low as a zero dollar monthly plan premium in many areas. And your doctor and hospital may already be a part of humanas large network. If you want the facts, call right now for the free decision guide from humana. There is no obligation, so call the number on your screen right now to see if your doctor is in our network; to find out if you can save on your prescriptions and to get our free decision guide. Licensed humana sales agents are standing by, so call now. Ashley lets check the big board. S p, by the way, the dow is up but the s p on pace for a record close. Bottom right hand, the s p is at 3026. If it finishes at 3025. 86 or higher, which we are at this point, that will be a record close. I believe the 14th for the year. It would be the 14th record. Keeping an eye on the s p. Lets get to one of the reasons the market is gaining ground. Some good news on china trade. Edward lawrence joins us. Edward, give us some more good news. Why not . Reporter the call between the two heads of the trade teams is now concluded. The chinese trade sources on that call say they plan to ask the u. S. Team to not impose the 15 tariffs on december 15th. The u. S. Trade Representatives Office released this statement, saying they made headway on specific issues in that call. In fact, the u. S. Trade representative went on to say they are close to finalizing some sections of that phase one agreement. Now, the Treasury Department or treasury secretary told me that intellectual property, that whole section on protecting intellectual property will be in the finished phase one agreement. Dont know if thats one of the sections thats close but it will be in the finished phase one deal. Now, u. S. Trade Representatives Office saying there will be continuous discussions from now on at the deputy level to try and get this done, pointing to a future phone call again between the two heads of the trade teams. Ashley . Ashley all right. Well, calls for optimism, i guess, in phase one. Edward, thank you very much. Reporter moving in the right direction. Ashley exactly right. At least theyre talking. Thank you very much. I want to stay on your money. The fed, oh, yes, meets next week and will weigh a third Interest Rate cut for the year. Lets bring in the chief investment strategist at nuveen. Certainly the markets believe we will get a cut next week. You agree with them . We do. Its a 90 probability in the market. The fed doesnt like to be on the other side of odds like that. They have ample opportunity to dissuade us from the notion they might cut rates and declined to take that opportunity so the expectation is they will cut rates next week. The big question is going to be what do they signal about december, their last meeting of the year, where the rate cut is not priced in. Ashley interesting. Is this warranted, a cut next week . Probably, they could make the argument that since december, you have seen some more worrisome data or lack of improvement outside the United States, the job number was a little bit soft. Ism Manufacturing Survey and a couple other manufacturing related surveys softer. They can probably get away with a cut without having to worry about encouraging higher inflation at this point. Ashley how much of this is predicated on what the economy is doing . Because i think we are doing very well compared to the rest of the world, and the very low Interest Rates around the rest of the world that makes it harder for this country to compete at times. Is that playing into it as much as the economy . The feds job in sort of the statute is keep inflation stable and keep the Unemployment Rate low but the fed has sort of expanded that mandate now, it talks about slower global growth, about policy uncertainty. These are things the fed cant control but still uses them and has been using them as an excuse to cut Interest Rates this year. One of the things, the good news on trade potentially, a deal or the beginnings of a deal in place, if we see those december 15th trade tariffs that are set to go into effect, if those get delayed or canceled, its much more likely the fed will think next weeks cut could be the last. Ashley i was going to ask you that. Its very hard to predict because so much is predicated on all that Economic Data that we get, and youre right, its kind of a mixed bag. Certain signs of life in the Housing Market but then, you know, the Business Investment is down because of the uncertainty over trade. Would you make a prediction for december . I mean, if we just kind of bumble along as we are, would it be appropriate for another rate cut in december . The fed doesnt want to sort of shoot all its arrows before theres a serious downturn in the economy which its not forecasting. There is history that suggests they might go three times. The last couple times they have done this where, without a recession, they cut Interest Rates, happened twice in the 1990s. Both of those instances they cut rates three times. There might be a magical three number, where they think three rate cuts, then maybe they can almost turn it into sort of a vote of confidence by saying we dont think we need to cut rates anymore, trade is a little bit less uncertain now that we canceled the last couple tariffs potentially and the economy looks good enough to stand on its own two feet. Ashley you mentioned the dreaded r word, recession. Do you see any sign just around the corner . We dont expect a recession. We didnt expect a recession in 2019. Looks like we arent getting one. In 2020 we are optimistic we will avoid one. Theres a couple flashing red signals, the yield curve and manufacturing issues, for sure, but most of the things that we think tell us the most about growth in the next couple of quarters are still green or at the worst, flashing yellow. Ashley what are the critical Economic Data points . Consumer confidence is pretty solid. Not at its strongest point but still pretty good considering the volatility in the markets. We have building permits, which is a sign Home Builders are still quite confident. You see people applying for permits to build a building, they probably dont expect there to be a recession. So unemployment claims are still low. Thats another leading indicator for the economy. Ashley very good. Thank you so much for coming. All right. Quick stock check, if we can. Take a look at and hiheuser bus. Whats going on . Liz profits are off 22 . Its having its worst day of the year after the summer. In july it was at a fiveyear high in sales growth. Whats going on . We are seeing heineken and others showing down drafts in the profit picture. Bud cut its forecast. Asia, not drinking much beer. Also, the nightlife, beer drinking is softening there in asia. Hong kong protests, people not going out and drinking beer. Civil unrest there. So is this an issue for the beer industry, wow, look at that, down 10 , 11 . Again, bud is feeling it right now. Ashley millenials drink hard seltzer. Liz that could be it. Right. Ashley next case, virgin galactic, that is Richard Bransons foray into space, looks like they will be going public sooner rather than later. Thats interesting. Deirdre it is going to trade on the New York Stock Exchange so worth noting there. Of course, the idea here is to raise funds, theyre looking to raise by the listing about 800 million. As we know, bransons vision is to have space tourism. So apparently, he has 700 customers ready to pay, more or less committed, 250,000 a head to go on a 90minute trip to just basically go up, feel the weightlessness, look at the curve of the earth, and come back down. So hes sort of in this billionaires space club. If its branson, bezos, elon musk, so essentially, all three are working to get us above the atmosphere. Ashley frequent flyer miles. Thats a big priced ticket. Interesting stuff. Check this out. Nasas curiosity rover snapped this selfie earlier this month. Its a panorama of the red planet. Curiosity was drilling the clay samples. Even the rover will take a selfie when it can. Interesting. Next case, the new call of duty game is out today, a reboot of their classic modern warfare story line. Its expected to rake in serious cash. Check this out. Call of dutys total sales spanning over 15 years amount to more than avengers, star wars and harry potter. 17 billion. Those others dont even come close. Liz some of them like avengers has been around since 2012 but certainly star wars has been around since 1977. Harry potter, 2001. Call of duty launched in 2003. So when you think about it, this is where the interest is, its with call of duty. Its quite the telling data point that we just showed about the popularity of call of duty as it continues to churn out hits that people and teen agers and millenials want to play. Ashley they certainly do. Thats remarkable. Thanks. Quick check on some big movers today. Take a look at peloton. The exercise bike people, they are having great day today. They were initiated as outperform by bernstein. Stock is loving it. We are going to show you the price it is. Peloton at 22. 15, having a much better day. Take a look at smile direct club, online dentistry company. Great earnings. Out with them yesterday and they served up a rosy forecast, and there it is. Thats what you get when you do that. Up 7. 5 or more. Smile direct at 11. 66. Retired nba star Charles Barkley calling out mike pence after the Vice President criticized the nba over china. And the hall of famer used some, well, choice words. You will hear what he had to say coming up. And any moment now, we could see the president. Hes getting ready to leave for South Carolina. But if he speaks to reporters, you will hear it here. Well be right back. Driverless cars, or trips to mars. No commission. Delivery drones, or the latest phones. No commission. Virtualize their operations. woman and build ai Customer Experiences. We also keep them ready for the next big opportunity. Like 5g. Almost all the fortune 500 partner with us. woman when it comes to digital transformation. Verizon keeps business ready. Ashley we are waiting for the president to depart the white house. Hes headed to Benedict College in South Carolina to tout the successes of the First Step Act. If we hear any headlines, if he stops to chat with reporters on his way to the helicopter, you will get them right here. We have also got some good news for texters which is just about everybody with a phone these days. Major cell phone carriers are teaming up to improve the quality of text messaging. Does that mean you send better texts . Deirdre it means you are charming. Verizon, at t, tmobile, sprint, unusual move, cooperation between competitors but this is whats doing it. I kind of think of this more as googles Android System versus apples because applesmessage is so much easier to use. You can pay bills, you can order an uber, lyft, schedule appointments so essentially, this is taking a crack at bringing that sort of functionality ashley big word. Deirdre its friday. Were going for it. So basically gives you smart texting. Carriers want to help you. Ashley im sure stu will be thrilled when he gets into that. Next case, tik tok. Im told its a controversial video sharing app. Congress is now looking into it on National Security concerns. Liz its got ties to china, right . Ashley that what it is . Deirdre shanghai owns a company that has an office in santa monica, california, it still is you know, this is i think the second most downloaded app in the world. So there are some concerns the kids love it. Ashley the security concern here, of course, is that tik tok will share all that data liz and the videos. Chuck schumer another congressman saying wait a second, will this be a u. S. National security deirdre even bipartisan. Senator rubio wants an acquisition tik tok made reviewed. Ashley any time theres a china connection with something that is downloaded a lot by people, seems to have this concern. Thank you very much. Lets get to Vice President mike pence, talking of china. He took a hard line stance on the country yet again yesterday, taking a shot at the nba, saying they were quote, a wholly owned subsidy of china. Nba legend Charles Barkley didnt like that. Roll the tape. Vice president pence needs to shut the hell up, number one. All American Companies are doing business in china. All American Companies are doing business in china. I thought the criticism of commissioner silver and lebron james was unfair. Darryl morey, who i like, he should have he can say whatever he wants to but there are consequences. But i dont understand why these holier than thou politicians, if they so want to worry about china, why dont they stop all transactions with china . President trump has been talking about and been arguing with tariffs for china for the last two years. Ashley well, what do you really think, charles . Christi christian, whats your take on this . Charles barkley really weighing in. Yeah. It goes with what lebron james said. If people in the Civil Rights Movement had put money ahead of morality which is just what he c did, he may not have Voting Rights today. What hes doing is outrageous. Nike, this is what pence was great about pences speech on so many levels, calling out these preening morally upright supposedly companies, so nike who puts Colin Kaepernick up on a pedestal, this is a guy who disrespected the flag, disrespected our national anthem, even though hes rich and has had a pretty good life, so they do all that and then when they go into china, they just leave their morals at the door. Nike, which actually is rare, all these companies are in china, thats not true. Nike is a rare company that does break out earnings in china and does make money. A lot of people, lot of companies who go in dont realize they are going to be robbed of their i. P and not actually profit from being in china. But nike pulled off Houston Rockets material in an attempt to please china after the controversy. Ashley its interesting, if im doing business in china, and im in china, i would be, you know, i would be respectful. I understand the way they do their business. I dont particularly agree with it. When you are in america, and youre not even allowed to criticize china, then that crosses the line for the almighty buck. Thats what really bothers me about this. Yeah. Thats right. Again, going back to just sort of the clarity of the issue, you know, south park addressed this recently. Its really been, you know, we talked in the last segment about a bipartisan approach. Its one of the few issues that unites washington today. I had some hong kong democracy figures in washington this weekend. Both democrats, republicans, are concerned and rightly so, because for years under administrations of both parties, there is this kowtowing to china. Our Companies Still do it. Its only mildly atrocious if they are actually making lots of money. A lot of times they dont. Ashley Christian Whiton industries had a big operation in china, would you be hesitant to call them out . Because you have to walk a bit of a tightrope, dont you . Im not saying Charles Barkley is right, but when you have to do business in a country which is completely different from the way we operate, and your business is doing very well there, would you be critical of the regime . Certainly, you know, its going to cost you. Theres no doubt about that. Everyone in the audience at some point has probably put morality before money, whether its speaking truth to power, maybe pushing back against the boss when he suggests something wrong. If People Like Us can take risks, then someone who is superrich like barkley hopefully can, you know, the advice is again, going into the china market which, you know, talking to an Energy Company fortune ten ceos they say you have to have a strategy for china. There are six billion other people on planet earth. There are other huge markets like brazil. Either east asian markets are growing like indonesia. My message would be if you dont want to have to check your legal rights and morality at the door, maybe you are not focused on Building Business there. Ashley great place to end it. Thanks. Staying on hong kong, the most expensive parking spot was just sold here. You wont believe how much someone actually paid. Of course, we will tell you after the break. Its a tease. And jeff bezos no longer the richest person on the planet and its all about amazons stock. He lost a little bit yesterday. Were on it next. Im happy to give you the tour, i love doing it. Hey jay. Ashley this might be a terrifying story for all of you new yorkers watching. Weve gotten word of the most expensive parking spot in the world. We thought it was stus place in hoboken. Liz his parking spot. Ashley no, tell me, where is it . Liz its in hong kong, in front of the luxury building called the center. It costs 969,000. Near a million bucks. An anonymous purchaser bought it. Must be a really good spot. This building went for 5. 2 billion in a recent sale. So this is hong kong. Has the highest cost of living in the world. Ashley plus no room to move. So every little piece of it, much like new york in that sense, is very very valuable. Incredible. All right. I guess if youve got the money, you get the parking spot. Next case. Bad news if your name is jeff bezos. This is all relative. And you are the chief executive of amazon. You are no longer the richest person on the planet. Jeff bezos in the poorhouse. Deirdre far cry from that, unless you really want to move some decimal points over. Hes about 300 million less now than bill gates, if you stack him up to bill gates, and its because of the amazon stock slide today. Of course, he has a lot of stock, thats a big part of his wealth. Then also, his divorce earlier this year played a role as well, because his now exwife received 25 of the stock. So theres been a bit of stock moving out of his hands. But bill gates, for his part as well, has been giving away a lot of his money. Hes given away 35 billion. Ashley bezos lost almost 7 billion in yesterdays slide. Deirdre certainly did. It puts him behind i know. At these numbers it all just seems silly, right . Ashley i dont know. What do you say . Liz i cant even fathom what it means to have that. Ashley the fact you lose 7 billion and its okay because probably the stock will come back probably anyway. Deirdre his net worth is 107 billion. Ashley after the divorce. Deirdre after the divorce. Liz thats about half the value of the russian stock market. Ashley is that right . Liz pretty much. Ashley you can probably buy a small european country with that money. Liz or stuarts parking spot. Ashley no one can afford stus parking space in hoe bobbyiboke. It is indeed friday. We are on fonda watch. If you dont remember, jane fonda is out in d. C. Every single week protesting Climate Change. There she is. Shes vowed to get arrested every single week. When that happens, very exciting, there she is, we will bring it to you. Meantime, more after this. Ashley interesting, we started session, half past nine. We were down 40, 50 points. Then things changed. Yesterday, when we whether talking about china and nba, all of that issue. Apparently has to the derailed those talks. The two sides have been talking by phone today. Of ed lawrence breaking news, the phone conversation ended. It is positive. The two sides are still talking. All you need one positive headline, guys this market moves to the top. If we got a negative headline, we may drop. Especially with this story. China is saying remove tariffs, well buy agricultural goods. The dollar amount. T would be double the prior record set in 2012. If china sets up to spend 50 billion, 40 billion on u. S. Foreign goods. That would be historic. Ashley we know the president is talking to reporters. Well bring you headlines. Headlines coming through from our team on the ground. The economy is booming. What the president is telling gaggle of reporters. A new stock market record. Talking about the jobs market looking phenomenal. That will be super important friday of next week. We are doing well in syria. We have a lot of oil. So he is doing rounds on topics. Ashley well bring you comments as soon as it becomes available. The tape will be fed back. David asman is filling in for neil cavuto. David excellent work getting markets up. Is phase one done . Im david asman in for neil cavuto. U. S. Tried representatives says the u. S. And china are close to cutting a trade deal after talks at the white house. It certainly worked markets around. Reporter david, positive news out of phone call. U. S. Trade Representatives Office said theyre making headway on specific issues. They are close to finalizing some sections of the phase one trade agreement. On that call, chinese trade
