There are a lot of people that want us to take action against facebook and against twitter and frankly against amazon. Yep. Amazon also. A lot of people want us to take action. Are you going to . I cant say that, tucker. That i cant say. Cheryl well, the House Judiciary Committee opened apan antitrust investigation into goodell and amazon last month. Lauren Many Americans agree, the economy is doing well, but this is interesting. Many not so quick to give President Trump credit for it. Cheryl interesting. Rich edson is at the white house with details on that. Rich. Good morning. Its incredible whats happened to the american economy, were the best economy in the world. Reporter this month, the u. S. Reporter nearly twothirds of americans describe the u. S. Economy as good. Though a you new Associated Press norc poll says fewer than half of americans approve of President Trumps handling of the economy. The poll also says only 17 believe the republican tax law cut their taxes. Even as figures show a majority are paying less in tax as a result. Looking to the 2020 election, democrats are trying to brand the president s tax cut as a giveaway to the rich. 75 of the American People now are living paycheck to paycheck. Reporter that credit for the historic streak belongs to another president. I think people had baked in the idea that barack obama is responsible for a large part of the economic success that were having today. Reporter the white house argues that credit belongs to this administration. Quote, the president has not only lowered taxes for hardworking families, his leadership and passage of the tax cuts and jobs act and deregulation led to job and wage growth across the country. And there is this, Kim Kardashian will rename her new shapewear line after facing huge backlash. She was accused of Cultural Appropriation for naming the line k kimono. The mayor of kyoto sent her a letter, asking her to change the name. She hain hasnt announced a new. Lauren kimono, it makes sense for her, kim, oh, no. Cheryl thats what dagen said. I think she crossed too many lines on that one. Lauren lets take a look at futures this morning. Speaking about crossing lines, record territory yesterday, a retreat this morning. The nasdaq is the worst of the bunch in the premarket, down a quarter of 1 , dow and s p down a tenth of 1 . Ahead, President Trump essentially declaring a trade truce, a cease fire china. What about europe . The new trade war that might be brewing. President trump announcing big plans for the 4th of july. Why this years celebrations could top them all. Keep it here on fbn a. M. American baby. American baby. All in one place. Because when its decision time. You need decision tech. Only from fidelity. Who used expedia to book the Vacation Rental which led to the discovery that sometimes a little down time can lift you right up. Expedia. Everything you need to go. Lauren no timetable for talks but President Trump says trade talks with beijing already underway following his meeting with the chinese president at the g20 in japan. Its essentially already begun. It actually be began before our meeting. It has to be better for us than for them because they had such a big advantage for so many years. Lauren if theyre still talking, how long before a deal could be reached. We asked clark packard. Clark, good morning. Does this go on into 2020 . I think thats exactly right. Look, these are the two most the largest economies in the world, theyre completely intertwined. This is going to take a while. It looked like we were getting close to an agreement and then we backed off. Its a good thing that were talking, but yeah, i think this sort of drags on into 2020. Lauren who is winning . I think thats really tough to tell. Look, the United States is a stronger economy. We have the fundamentals of our economy are better than china. They have some problems with corporate debt. They abuse theyre abusive in trade policy practices. I think the United States is probably in a better position. But both sides can be hurt pretty badly if this continues on. Lauren despite the concessions to huawei, you say the u. S. Is in a stronger position . I do, yeah. Again, i just think that the United States, the economys growing, although its showing signs of weakening a little bit. But overall, the trajectory of the u. S. Economy is good and i think that we can withstand this a little better in the short run than china can. Lauren clark, companies, investors, everyone is looking for what is the u. S. Strategy on this. And to me, that strategy is patience, keep the tariffs on, maybe postpone those additional tariffs, but the tariffs will bite. Theyll hurt the chinese economy. It will bring them to the table the way we need them to. Is that accurate, the way you see it . Im not personally a big fan of tariffs. But the president deserves some credit in sort of getting china to recognize that the United States has longstanding complaints about their trade policy practices. So you know, again, i would give the president credit but i dont think that tariffs will fundamentally transform their economy over the long term. Lauren you dont like tariffs but were talking about more tariffs on Different Countries now as well. The ustr has another list of 89 goods that target european items, like olives and coffee and cheese, all part of our complaints about the subsidies that the european government gives to airbus, of course our plane maker is boeing. Why exactly are we picking a trade fight with europe right now . Is it because theyre not doing enough of to help us with china . I dont think that thats really the issue. This sort of stems from a longstanding complaint the United States has against airbus. Its boeing that brought the case essentially at the wto. So the wto, the world trade oranization, has basically sanctioned or given the United States the green light to move in ordeforward with these tarif. I would distinguish this, getting a blessing from the wto to move forward with tariffs, than sort of the United States acting unilaterally outside of that system. Lauren got it. Clark, thank you for coming on this morning. Thanks for having me. Cheryl well, facebook, Silicon Valley headquarters remains on edge this morning. A nearby mail facility has been quarantined after a package was found that possibly contained the nerve sirin. An emergency hazmat crew is investigating, along with the fbi. Lets bring in steve rogers, a former military officer. Steve, good morning. Good morning. Cheryl lets talk about the potential this is sirin gas. Two of three tests confirmed that it is. How did somebody get ahold of this and talk about the deadly consequences of this agent. I can assure you that overnight, the fbi and other Law Enforcement agencies have been vigorously working on this. As you know, there have been reports in the past that have been false positives. Right now, the chemical agent that they discovered is being carefully analyzed but in addition to that, Law Enforcement is looking at the point of origin of this package and was there any specific target, meaning a person that this package was supposed to be delivered to. But its deadly. Look, it comes as a liquid. Colorless, odorless and has the ability to evaporate into the air and do a lot of damage on the nervous system. Cheryl have we heard any chatter in the Intelligence Community about the potential that u. S. Technology companies could be the target of Something Like this. I heard of no reports. I can assure you a that many, Many Technology companies today will up their security mechanisms with regard to mail. So a lot of people are going to be on the lockout today and perhaps in the future, realizing that this could be, if it is in fact sirin, weve got a serious problem on our hands. Cheryl how would somebody begin the process of delivering sirin gas through the mail. I see heartbreaking images out of syria, women, children, the elderly dying from exposure to it. Its a horrible death or if you survive its damaging for life. How in the world would somebody get this into the mail . Well, its pretty easy. I mean, they find a way of getting the chemical agent and they just mail it. But ive got to tell you, what has been proven here is that the Safety Measures that were taken to discover sirin gas worked. So hopefully if theres any more actions like this from somebody, we will see the mechanisms in place to discover it before it does its damage. Cheryl real quick, before i let you go, the fbi is leading the investigation on this. How long do you think before well have any type of answer . I know a lot of folks in Silicon Valley are pretty scared this morning . I believe within the next 24 hours well have a lot of answers to a lot of. Cheryl well, that would be very helpful. Scary stuff. Steve, thank you so much for that. Youre welcome. Lauren lets check the action on wall street on the second day of the new month, the new half of the year. Dows down just 34 points, s p down 4, nasdaq down 19. Of course, record territory yesterday, although we did pull back from those earlier highs. Cheryl darn it. Lauren you know, well, yeah, cease fire with china but where exactly do we go from there and, well, maybe here. A jobs report and fed rate decision, are they the next catalyst to drive the stock market to new highs . Plus, a recall hitting the vegetable aisle. We have a warning about listeria you need to know about. Keep it here on fbn a. M. I can hear the bull frogs calling me. Still hanging in the trees vo the hamsters, run hopelessly in their cage. Content on their endless quest, to nowhere. But perhaps this year, a more exhilarating endeavor awaits. Defy the laws of human nature,at the summer of audi sales event. Get exceptional offers now. It saves lives. Cheryl President Trump signed a bipartisan irs reform bill into law. It will improve Customer Service at the agency, upgrade Information Technology and help people who have had their Tax Information stolen. But the measure does not include a controversial provision that would have turned the Free File Program for low and middle income taxpayers into law. The bill cleared the house and senate by a voice vote. Lauren lets check the movement on wall street a day after the broad market hit fresh records. We bring in shawn ohara. Im asking whats the mood. We have earnings, Second Quarter coming up and we have had many negative preannouncements, shawn. Yeah, i mean, the daytoday news is whats been driving the up and downs in the march account. Over the next year to two years, what will be driving the markets is going to be earnings and can we continue to see earnings grow Going Forward and then what multiple will we apply to that number. The s p is estimated to earn about 170 right now. 20 times that is 3400. Were not quite there yet. 18 to 19 times earnings is a little bit high on a historical basis. Thats where i think we need to be looking Going Forward. Lauren are there certain sectors that you think are more vulnerable here with stocks at the levels theyre at, with the trade situation where it is . Well, i mean, the semiconductors have continued to be like the main focus of these trade wars. One day yes, the semis look good, the next day, no, they dont look good. Were overweight some of the semiconductors, we Pay Attention to this on a daily basis. The longer term trend for the semiconductors to us looks fairly optimistic. When you think about ecommerce and streaming and autonomous vehicles, the internet of things, artificial intelligence, those things all require massive buildouts in technology. They have that buffer working in their favor. Lauren do you expect a a rate cut to happen when the fed meets . I do. I think they signaled that and i think for them to pull back on that p at this point is probably not going to happen. So im fully expecting were going to get at least one rate cut this year Going Forward. Lauren 25 basis cut or 50 in july . Probably 25 in july, maybe another one later this year. Lauren does that do anything to the economy . And lets say we have progress on trade. Maybe even a trade deal. I know thats very optimistic. But then with the deal, does the fed say no need to cut rates . Well, i mean, i think thats the thing. So trade, tariffs, Interest Rates, all are sort of head winds on earnings in the future. So i think if we do get the cuts, i think that makes people feel a little bit better about future earnings and future Earnings Growth because Interest Rates are an input cost in the business, just as tariffs are an input cost in the business as well. So far, tariffs havent been passed on to the consumer. The chinese as an example have been subsidizing part of that, some of the manufacturers and distributors have been subsidizing part of that. I think if the general public, the investing public feels that that input cost isnt going to become a reality in the bottom line of stocks, that plus an Interest Rate stock are very, very good signs for equities. Lauren shawn, thank you very much. Appreciate your perspective. Thank you, lauren. Cheryl all right, well, still ahead, congresswoman alexandria ocasiocortez caused a firestorm at the border. What Border Agents are now saying about her outrageous claims. Then, usually folks in washington run for office. But one man took that phrase to a whole new level. Youre watching fbn a. M. Thanks for the ridealong, captain ive never been in one of these before, even though geico has been ohhh. Ooh ohh here we go, here we go. You got cut off there, what were you saying . Oooo. Oh no no. Maybe that geico has been proudly serving the military for over 75 years . Is that what you wanted to say . Mhmmm. I have to say, you seemed a lot chattier on tv. Geico. Proudly serving the military for over 75 years. You ok back there, buddy . Lauren 5 30 in the morning on the east coast. Lets take a look at how your money is moving this morning. Small retreat from yesterday. S p futures down 3 points, dow down 34, nasdaq down 17. The 10 year treasury right now at 2. 03 , down 2 basis points. Some european bond yields dipping deeper into negative territory. Here in the u. S. , da da data on, auto sales today. Tensions are building in iran. The opec nations agreed to production cuts into 2020. Oil is at 58. 88 a barrel, down 21cents. A mixed picture in asia, the hang high composite shanghai composite down slightly, the kospi down a third of 1 , hang seng up 1 . Despite these trade truce with china and potentially more trade tariffs with europe, this is how the european markets are trading at this hour. Mixed bag there as well. Cheryl. Cheryl. No message to iran. They know what theyre doing. They know what theyre playing with. And i think theyre playing with fire. So no message to iran whatsoever. Cheryl well, thats President Trump yesterday after iran confirmed it exceeded a limit on stockpile of low enriched uranium set under the 2015 nuclear deal. Iran says its violating the terms of the deal because the u. S. Reimposed sanctions after leaving the agreement. Retired lieutenant dakota wood joins us now. Good morning. Good morning. Cheryl well, what do you make about maximum pressure on iran . Will this get them to the table . Well, it seems to be working. Otherwise, iran wouldnt be lashing out by attacking commercial oil freighters and supporting additional terrorist elements in the middle east. So if things were nice and quiet back in iran, they wouldnt be lashing out and i think the maximum Pressure Campaign is having an effect. Cheryl lets the white house came out with this response. I think this is where the iranians really kind of showed their hand. Thats my opinion. Heres what the white house said. There is little doubt that even before the deal existed iran was violating its terms. Now, Mohammed Zarif responded on twitter. Seriously, question mark. Thats all he wrote. What do you make of that . Theres the question is whether the deal was rational to begin with. I mean, the iranians were able to investigate or inspect their own compliance. Who does that in the world, right . So western observers werent able to go into facilities to see if they were holding to it. The whole thing is nuclear blackmail on the part of iran. Dont push us too far, otherwise well voluntarily pursue development of higher enriched uranium for a program that we say we dont even want to begin with. I mean, the whole thing is nonsensical. Cheryl in all of this, the europeans and russia and china, it seems they would prefer to salvage the deal. The iranians really trying to reach out to them, especially the europeans. We know President Trump had a call with president macron of france yesterday. How key can europe be to this . Well, this is where iran is looking, is to try to pressure the iranians through the nuclear blackmail to put pressure on the United States to relieve the economic sanctions. Its kind of a circular sort of thing. So if the iranians truly did not want nuclear weapons, they wouldnt be pushing to enrich the uranium further than whats needed for civilian electrical power plant and they wouldnt be trying to go back to the partners who are still in agreement with the iranians. U. K. , france, germany, russia, and china. Cheryl you mentioned the enrichment of the uranium. I want to hop in here. How much you uranium are we talking about truly . Because i think before the 2015 deal, it would take them about a year to make basically a nuclear weapon. Doesnt this we dont know how much exactly they added, this last goround, but how much uranium do they have, do you think and what kind of timeframe would it take them to build something that is a threat in the middle east. Timeframe is speculative. If somebody has a secret program, youre working on flawed information. In terms of enrichment, its quantity and quality. The quality, less than 4 , about 3. 7 thats usable in a civilian electrical power plant you need 90 or better for a nuclear weapon. The quantity is a limit of 300 kilograms or a little over 600 pounds of low enriched uranium. Theyve exceeded the quantity. They havent yet pursued additional quality. Cheryl again, we dont know how much theyve gone over that limit which is kind of the worrisome part here as well. Well, colonel, thank you very much for being here. We appreciate it. My pleasure. Thanks. Lauren a bit of she said versus he said, new york congresswoman aoc is taking on the cbp. She made serious allegations after touring a Texas Holding facility for migrants. Cheryl todd piro is more on how the agency is responding to her explosive claims. Todd, good morning. Reporter great to be back with you. Missed you guys. Havent seen you in a while. This started with this statement from aoc and her corresponding tweet storm following a tour of border facilities by democratic politicians. These women were being told by cbp officers to drink out of the toilet. They were Drinking Water out of the toilet. And that was them knowing a congressional visit was coming. This is cbp on their best behavior. Reporter one of the new york congresswomans tweets stating in part, quote, this has been horrifying so far. It is hard to underestimate theen norm at this of the problem, were talking systemic cruelty with a dehumanizing culture that treats them like animals. Brian hastings responded. We dont treat people that way. We provide fresh water. We provide food. We provide sanitary items. Reporter hector gaza at adamantly refuted aocs claims. Thats grandstanding. We dont do that type of activity. Theyre under constant surveillance. We call for cbp to release the footage to the public to disprove what aoc is saying. Reporter theres the private facebook group, containing racist and sexist folks possibly from cbp employees. In response, the cbp chief states the posts are completely inappropriate and contrary to the integrity and hon norther he day in and day out. Those targets of those posts reportedly migrants and members of congress. Cheryl todd, thank you so much. Great to have you back, sir. Lauren good to see you, todd. Lets get to other headlines were watching this morning. The Football Player and nike brand representative calling out the Sneaker Company for a you new release of air max one sneakers featuring the betsy ross version of the american flag. Kaepernick reportedly telling nike that the flag is offensive because of its connection to an end of the slavery era. Cheryl nike pulled the shoes from its website and its stores even though they had been shipped to the retailer. Was that the right move for the brand . Lets ask chris ruby. Colin kaepernick is big business for nike. Hes had a huge impact on their sales. Did they make the right decision by caving into this particular criticism . Im not necessarily sure they made the right decision here. Heres the thing. If kaepernick is so important for nike and their sales, why is he finding out about this on social media . Thats the real mystery in all of this. Why didnt they come to him first and say were making these new shoes and this is what theyre going to look like, what do you think. Instead, he sees the picture on social media and after they shipped to retailers, then he says i dont like them and they pull them. It makes no sense at all. Lauren especially if you look at their statement on this, they say we have chosen not to release the new sneaker as it featured the old version of the american flag. But they obviously knew that going in. They decided to put that flag on this 4th of july american independence type of shoe. So its like a complete backtrack for them. It is a a backtrack. Also, even just from an agency perspective, so many Different Things like from a creativewise goes into Something Like this, design perspective, all of the approval levels. So for it to get this far, for the shoe to actually be made, theyre about to sell them, and they say sorry, were changing our minds. Theres something that were not seeing as part of this story. Cheryl do you think theyre offending a big part of the country that might want to honestly, im a runner. I was talking about that. I love these shoes. Theyre very a attractive shoes. They would be fun to run in. Do you think maybe its veterans or those out in Middle America that are patriotic that wouldnt think twice about the design, are they going to lose those customers . Of course. They are definitely going to lose those customers. I said that the first time when they did the ad campaign with kaepernick to begin with. Now theyll lose customers yet again. Thats the decision and direction they said they want to go in. I dont think they care that much about that base as we can very clearly see here and were going to start seeing again, photos on social media, people burning nikes and doing all of those things. I think when you think about the military and some of our veterans, theyre not sitting there with the luxury of which flag should we use on a pair of shoes. Cheryl theyre happy we have freedom in this country. Why doesnt nike donate them to the veterans. What are they doing with them . Cheryl lauren thats a good idea. How far does this go . At what point do companies, do brands say enough is enough, we just cant be this pc . I think its totally outofcontrol. I mean, to be honest with you. Brands have become so political now that i dont sales are so important. This seems like a total loss to be honest. Because they made those shoes. They shipped them out. They paid people and workers to make the shoes. So do they not care about that . Is collins opinion really that much more important . Cheryl theyre finding out probably going to find out more today as a company. Well see how any ky really has to nike really has to reability to this now. Lauren lets take a look at your money this morning, small retreat on wall street on the second day of the new month, dow down 37, s p off 4, nasdaq giving up about 19 on this holiday shortened week. Still ahead, team usa gearing up for the semifinals after beating france. Will the u. S. Womens soccer team take england . Good morning. That heat thats been living in the middle of the country only going to see it shift more to the east coast. These are Early Morning temperatures but youre running up close to 80 degrees in chicago. Back behind it in minneapolis, a little bit of a cold front there which means theres a chance of some Severe Weather before the day is over right along that area, getting into the northern plains, back across the dakotas and further to the west, maybe big thunderstorms with this, not likely a huge tornado outbreak although a spinup one would be possible. Its the story of the heat, everything south of the frontal boundary continues to be so warm. Lots of spots in the 90s. Pay attention to the midatlantic. Getting up to 94, 95 degrees today and thats the actual temperature. You start to add in that humidity and it only feels hotter. So a lot of feels like temperatures getting up close to triple digits at least the mid90s. It is going to be hot once again.
