Ex-Yona mayor to be sentenced next week
Former Yona mayor Jesse Blas is set to be sentenced next week, with two days set aside for the court proceedings.
Blas pleaded guilty to extortion under color of official right after a woman posing as a drug dealer, who was purportedly receiving drug packages, gave him money for a mailbox that Blas controlled when he was mayor. His plea agreement states he demanded money and threatened to close the mailbox after the woman stopped paying.
Prosecutors and his defense attorney spoke with District Court of Guam Chief Judge Frances Tydingco-Gatewood Monday for a status hearing before next week's sentencing.
