More than 4,000 high school seniors in the Elk Grove Unified School District will get to do something few thought would be possible — celebrate graduation in person. The state's fifth-largest school district has come up with a plan that will allow graduating seniors to walk across the stage, in person and with their classmates, starting Monday.Over a three-day period, 13 schools will hold commencement ceremonies at two outdoor venues.Cosumnes Oaks High School will host its graduation ceremony and Laguna Creek's on Monday; Elk Grove Charter, Rio Cazadero, Calvine and Las Flores high schools Tuesday; and Franklin High School on Wednesday.Monterey Trail High School will host its own ceremony and Valley High's on Monday; Florin and Pleasant Grove high schools on Tuesday, and Sheldon and Elk Grove high schools on Wednesday. Many performances from band to dance will take place on large video screens. Each student will be allotted four tickets for guests in an effort to reduce crowd size.In a normal year, each student would be granted as many as a dozen tickets for ceremonies held at the Golden 1 Center, home of the Sacramento Kings. Some of the district's larger schools, such has Franklin High School with 663 graduates, will have their ceremonies divided into three sessions. The Elk Grove Unified School District will have more than 4,500 students graduating this year.In a recorded message, district superintendent Christopher R. Hoffman told students they are stronger for persevering through a challenging year."Thank you for stepping into this space and meeting every challenge put before you. Your ability to navigate all that was put in front of you this year will serve you well in your next adventures," said Hoffman.
