Thats is hard to do this is of course the topic today with writers for future and other movements around not too late and often light can also draw on these themes and highlight the global problems. So what were like to look like in the future this is a big part of what the International Like knowledge award is about 1st prize goes to jacques. Shes almost 30 and studied interior design we have like time she aims to put the viewer in a state of between space and dream which is the plan i deserved trying is for one of the new generation of female i talked to breaking into what has traditionally been. Of a boys club. Well next up we concentrate solely on those boys because it was they who went off to war in 1914 amazingly jubilant on both sides and certain to make quick work of the enemy about the harsh reality that followed in the trenches of belgium and france cost millions their lives dispelling all or most notions of heroics on the german side and youre not stuck it out in the trenches and lived to tell a compelling and brutal tale when world war one broke out people here in germany cheering in the streets today wed say what are you stupid but back then that was completely normal. Storm of steel as strong as autobiographical novel about the front lines of world war one youre not wasnt just an author he was a german officer who survived bullets including one to bitch and you thought writing books was just a job for wimps. You guys descriptions of killing and almost getting killed are so realistic you wont be able to stand it but you wont be able to put it down either one second his comrades guts are spilling out but then another officer gets the back of his skull boy. You know this generation went to war for a vent to serve the father lands and his thirst for battle is by todays standards disturbing but even he recognizes injustice when he sees it especially when it affects civilians the villages we passed through on our way had to look a vast lunatic asylums whole companies were set to knocking or pulling down walls or sitting on rooftops uprooting the tiles every village was reduced to rubble every tree chopped down every road undermined every well poisoned every basement blown up or booby traps every rail and screwed every telephone wire rolled up everything burnable burned in a word we were turning the country that are advancing opponents would occupy into a wasteland. Some see the storm of steel as an anti war novel but the nazis worshiped as a hero as an invincible fighter for the fatherland who kept getting shot and wouldnt die. Hitler himself tried to be buddies with you but wasnt having it today we wouldnt call youre not a hero but he was a keen observer who describes landscapes with the same person as he does guts and gore if you want to understand what it was like to be a soldier in a world war one this book is required reading. Another one for your Summer Reading list if you have the stomach for it well we all know that europe is chock full of interesting sites to visit and thats just whats on the surface so this week well take a look at all the great stuff thats looking the no in our series and titled underground europe and who knew that Something Like table salt could have such a fascinating spinoff effect we looked into its legacy in neighboring poland. Visitors can also experience how it might have felt to work in a salt mine by taking a different tour. Going on the authentic miners route requires professional equipment and some physical strength is needed to extract the rock salt. But its not just tourists who come to the village to solve a below Ground Health resort promises relief for people who suffer from chronic respiratory illnesses such as asthma or certain allergies the clinic 135 meters underground is a unique location offering an especially beneficial microclimate. This is did abuse live from berlin britain awaits another political shake up in just over an hour the country will find out who will be the new leader of the conservative party force johnson this tip to win and become the new Prime Minister also coming up. The United States and pakistan discuss working together to end the war in afghanistan that after years of strained relations. I brought in thomas thanks so much for joining us we begin this program in britain where in just about an hour from now theyll be a new conservative Party Leader Boris johnson is expected to win the contest against foreign minister jeremy hunt to become the next british Prime Minister whoever takes over will have to solve the political mess of bricks and united divided party to take britain out of the European Union. Thats nothing this man wants more than the keys to number 10 downing street where they take the keys out there that. They would do fortunately for Boris Johnson the keys to this forklift truck off found although hes on course to be britains next Prime Minister his drive towards the top job has been a little bumpy. Around with his girlfriend that went public threaten to derail his leadership bid. When britains ambassador to the u. S. Became embroiled in a diplomatic spat with President Donald Trump johnson was criticized for failing to give him his full support to be better he was even heckled about it in a recent tory leadership hoskins. The. Thank you mr johnson has though been very clear about one thing that the u. K. Must leave the European Union by halloween with or without a deal of the 3 years to listed lines we must leave the e. U. On october 30. 6th hes been criticized for his lack of detail how would you handle paragraph 5 c. I would resign i would confide entirely in paragraph 5 b. Because that is the how would you get round watson 5 c. I would confide entirely in paragraph 5 b. Which is. Up says. So you are a man of. The former foreign secretary and london man is still the conservatives favorite candidate and its the 160000 Party Members who decide who wins were going to get young people voting conservative again all. Jeremy hunt knows hes trailing mr johnson in the party polls but the current foreign secretary has done what he can to stay in the race hes even promised to embrace a no deal bricks it. If my judgment is that there is no deal to be done i will immediately cease all discussions with the European Union and focus the whole countrys mission or no deal preparations he might be presenting himself as the serious candidates but throughout this contest mr johnson has looked like the man who would be given the keys to number 10. Lets get more on this now from london with a lot of parts and from brussels with our correspondent max sander good day to both of you charlotte if we could start with you Boris Johnson is of course the overwhelming favorite to win the tory leadership and succeed theresa may whats the timeline when are we going to know. Well the votes have been counted overnight voting closed yesterday and we are expecting the announcement of the results around 11 shortly after 11 london time so in just a couple of hours then we will know who is going to take over the conservative party and they have become the new Prime Minister tomorrow and the time im there is pretty tight they will have a very quick turn over tomorrow in front of number 10 downing street she recently a will hold her resignation speech will then go to the queen say her goodbye and recommend the next Prime Minister most likely Boris Johnson as weve been saying to the queen Boris Johnson will then youre welcomed by the queen and then quickly afterwards move into number 10 downing street were also expecting major cabinet announcements from mr johnson in the course of today and tomorrow the question there of course how many pro city is will he be having on his cabinet and we are expecting to see more resignations already a number of ministers have resigned because they dont want to work with Boris Johnson ok a lot happening there in. The view from brussels about the potential Prime Ministership. Well brian you have to say Boris Johnson knows brussels and brussels knows Boris Johnson quite well also well many people dont know hes a native he was he was raised through spent a good deal of his time growing up since his father was working in the european institutions here and then later before he entered politics he was a journalist im he worked as a correspondent in here in brussels and some say that during this time he formed the tradition of british skeptical e. U. Journalism with you know colorful exaggerated stories and just another thing that you just got banned for british citizens stories like that and this story telling he even continued during his time as a as a foreign minister when he would come on a regular basis to brussels. To the European Council so there he got the reputation that he was ill informed and also quite under platic so with this track record there is not much trust among e. U. Leaders and Boris Johnson. A lot that was that track record and his promise to get britain out of the e. U. With or without a deal that got him where to where he is today is a no deal brax at the most likely scenario right now. Well and no deal breaker that is becoming more and more likely of course if Boris Johnson number 10 downing street tomorrow he has sworn to that he is planning on going back to brussels renegotiating that Withdrawal Agreement that controversial Withdrawal Agreement and if that doesnt work hes prepared to leave the e. U. Without a deal on october 31st and we have to remind our viewers that economists are saying that that could have catastrophic consequences for the European Union but especially of course for the United Kingdom so facing criticism here from also from members within his own from conservative m. P. s for example and he really has to present a plan there on how hes going to convince the European Union that he has a plan and not just wants to crush. And breaks it over with on october 31st. Johnson has said that hes using the threat of a no deal to force the e. U. To reopen negotiations to restart talks about the Withdrawal Agreement is that likely to happen. The Withdrawal Agreement that we have right now took 28. 00 Member States 17 months of haggling and involves 600. 00 papers of legal documents so it would be very very difficult to reopen this and restarted over again in the u. K. You made clear time and time again this is the best deal that youre going to get its not going to get any better so here in brussels or in the European Union nobody wants Great Britain to leave and nobody wants to be in fact responsible to slam the door shut or wants to be the one slammed the door shut on Great Britain and the Commission President elect was a lot on the line last week said she was willing to extend she was showing goodwill willing to extend the brakes a deadline but also make clear that would be no renegotiation so here in brussels nobody wants to. Push Great Britain over the cliff but at the same time nobody wants to get pushed around by somebody like Boris Johnson and set a dangerous precedent for other euro skeptic leaders came next under bring us up today with a view from brussels and to a lot of pots in london while much more throughout the day on this of course thanks to both of you are now lets preview on some of the other stories making the news at this hour right now south korean fighter jets fired hundreds of warning shots after a Russian Military aircraft violated that nations airspace seoul says the russian planes flew over the doctorow islands are also claimed by japan which calls them talk she milans Russias Defense Ministry denies the accusations saying its bombers carried out drills over international waters. The libel trial of a prominent philippine journalist critical of president rugby go to terror has started maria ressa leads the online news outlet rappler and both have been hit with a string of charges critics say are aimed at silencing them both. Rest of faces years in prison if found guilty. Police in the u. S. Territory of puerto rico fired tear gas to Disperse Protesters demanding the resignation of governor ricardo over seo hes been under pressure since the release of obscenity laced chat messages that mocked his constituents protests are continuing despite his announcement that he will not run for reelection. Or u. S. President donald trump has struck a positive note in his 1st meeting with the pakistani Prime Minister imran khan relations between the 2 countries have been strained for many years and the 2 leaders have traded barbs on twitter of the past but the new friendlier tone could hold the key to ending American Military involvement in afghanistan. A push to men tends us pakistan relations in person after clashing on twitter pakistani Prime Minister imran khan has held his 1st one on one talks in washington with his us while online sparring partner u. S. President donald trump the afghan conflict responsible for straining those ties was a key focus of talks trump hopes khan can help broker a peace deal between the taliban and the Afghan Government and pave the way to ending nearly 18 years of u. S. Military involvement in afghanistan. I have no plans on afghanistan that if i wanted to win the war afghanistan would be wiped off the face of the earth it would be god it would be over in literally in 10 days and i dont want to do that i dont want to go that route so were working with pakistan and others to extricate ourselves nor do we want to be a policeman because basically were policeman right now and were not supposed to be policeman weve been there through weve been there for 90 years in afghanistan khan who has called for mutually beneficial ties with the us since he won pakistans general election last year sounded optimistic. So there is only one solution. I feel that i think it will discuss this is the closest we have been to obesity. In the coming days we will be able to. Speak to the dont come to a settlement a political solution. This bridge building is a far cry from relations last year when trump attacked pakistan on twitter accusing the country of supporting islamist militants and cutting security aid now trump has held out the carrot of possibly restoring aid if this meeting yields results offering the prospect of better relations between the 2 nations. Ok lets talk about this. Joining us from our bureau in bonn good morning. Are we seeing the beginning of a new era in relations between the u. S. And pakistan. I would say that. Is that improving definitely but to say that it is a start of a new year would be i think a little premature at this moment much depends on how deals with washingtons demands regarding peace and. The issue of it is. Not just in afghanistan but also in kashmir. Economy is in a mess right now and islamabad needs the Financial Assistance so it is likely that pakistan. Would pay heed to us demands. Ok now during that meeting our President Trump you some very dramatic rhetoric claiming that the u. S. Could wipe afghanistan off the face of the earth in 10 days of the. Reaction to those statements. I think it is the drums way of seeing that do you cooperate with does otherwise we have a military option so it was a match as to clone and also to other players in the region he has been using using discounted and stick policy in afghanistan so i dont think of the gun authorities would like this a statement it was quite irresponsible to be honest but i think it was a message aimed. To other players in the region and to khan who was sitting next to him. Joining me earlier from. A skit youre a minor now of our top story at this hour Boris Johnson is the favorite to take over as leader of the 1st conservative party and as Prime Minister. A result of a vote among Party Members of stephen to be announced shortly in london. This is deja vu news live from berlin up next doc film on how the moon conquered music dont forget you can always get the latest around the clock at our website dot com for now though for me bryan thomas the entire team thanks so much for being. At the evening hour the moon appeared in his window and asked the tailor to make. The tailor reached for his cheek to take his clients measure. But he had vanished. No matter the crescent is but a sliver. He set to work quickly in the garment was soon finished. A few days later the moon returned with a question the night his hold dear master ken i try on my jacket. The tailor realised with dismay the moon had put on some weight dear moon he said please come again later and he set about making his adjustments. But by then the moon had acquired quite a belly. Ready the tailor saw at once the moon is far too common. Here moon he said abashed in a week please come back once again he set to work the back collars sleeves and seams hoping against hope it would finally fit but the moon was full far too full for the jacket. Come back in 2 days the tailor exclaimed and then in a state he tore the jacket end to end. Oh no but wait all is not lost i can start over he thought. The tailor after all was a master. Once again he set to work. New cloth new thread a new cut with new scissors and soon enough a new jacket emerged round as a balloon. Ready but by then the moon had lost weight the jacket is far too large the tailor realized too late. The half moon also wasnt pleased the jacket didnt match his figure. So the too bad their good byes and the moon took cover behind a cloud. But in the end both were happy the moon at least appeared to be one day full the next a half then a crescent wax and wane back and forth a tailored tired took to bed it must have all been a dream he said who is the richest person on earth are the sucker. Hello and welcome im a touchy mug good to have you with us we begin with britain where in chills under an hour theyll be the new conservative Party Leader Boris johnson is expected to win the contest against foreign minister jeremy hunt and become the next Prime Minister whoever takes over will have to solve the political mess of braggs it and unite a divided party to take britain out of the European Union. Thats nothing this man wants more than the keys to number 10 downing street or with a pedophile is that the old good a word fortunately for Boris Johnson the keys to this forklift truck off found although hes on course to be britains next Prime Minister his drive towards the top job has been a little bumpy. Around with his girlfriend that went public threaten to derail his leadership beds. When britains ambassador to the u. S. Became embroiled in a diplomatic spat with president on no trump johnson was criticized for failing to give him his full support to be better he was even heckled about it in a recent tory leadership hostin. Thank you mr johnson has though been very clear about one thing that the u. K. Must leave the European Union by halloween with or without a deal to 3 years to listed lines we must leave the e. U. On october 30. 6th hes been criticized for his lack of detail how would you handle paragraph 5 c. I would i would confide entirely in paragraph 5 b. Because that is the how would you get round watson 5 c. I would confide entirely in paragraph 5 b. Which is. Up says. So you are a man of. The former foreign secretary and london man is still the conservatives favorite candidate and its the 160000 Party Members who decide who wins we are going to get young people voting conservative again although. Jeremy hunt knows hes trailing mr johnson in the party polls but the current foreign secretary has done what he can to stay in the race hes even promised to embrace a no deal brecks it. If my judgment is that there is no deal to me. I will cease all discussions with the European Union and focus the whole countrys mission. He might be presenting himself as the serious candidate put throughout this contest mr johnson has looked like the man wholl be given the keys to number 10. And if we now join our correspondent seanad box in london charlotte if you could start with you know Boris Johnson is the overwhelming favorite to win the tour due to ship and take over from to reason may when we know for sure. What we are expecting the announcement in about 40 minutes time here the announcement of who will take over the conservative party and then move into downing street tomorrow and that turnover will be very quick as you said that Boris Johnson is the favorite of the 2 candidates and that turnover in number 10 downing street is supposed to happen very quickly so were expecting to see theresa may resign tomorrow in an official speech then go to the queen saying her goodbye and her official reddick resignation and shortly after johnson visiting the queen being welcomed by her as the new Prime Minister and then moving into downing street were also expecting major cabinet announcements coming out tonight and in the course of the day tomorrow of course there the question is what how how will his cabinet look like will he have a lot of pro breaks a tears on his cabinet that will help him get the u. K. Out of the European Union as promised and we have also seen already quite a few major scene here resignations ministers resigning because they say they dont want to work under a Johnson Administration that usually happens after then. Leaders announced after the premier has moved in so that is something that they now have done before in anticipation of Boris Johnson taking over as Prime Minister so even if Boris Johnson were to become Prime Minister it seems divisions really remain johnson has said hes prepared to leave the e. U. With a no deal is that the most likely scenario right now if his election is confirmed. Well that scenario is for sure becoming more likely under a. Premiership that is for sure he has vowed to have the u. K. Leave by october 31st that is the deadline and he has said do or die no matter what he will take the u. K. Out so very strong message there and those 1st 100 days in office will really be crucial for him because that deadline is coming up brussels doesnt trust the man so its going to be unlikely that they will be able to renegotiate those controversial Withdrawal Agreements and then Great Britain is left with a no deal scenario and i just want to remind our viewers weve been talking about this quite a bit but a no deal scenario economists are saying would mean catastrophic consequences economically for the European Union but especially also for the United Kingdom so Boris Johnson has come under criticism already within his conservative party for theres no deal rhetoric and he really has to come up with a with a good plan he has to show a plan on how he wants to move forward. And not just say we are going to fall out of the European Union on october 31st and get back to the done with and shot given all these issues how does one explain Boris Johnson within the conservative party and the fact that hes a clear favorite to win this ballot. Hes an extremely charismatic. Titian quite humorous his speeches are always well regarded by his constituencies and his rival his main rival in this leadership contest jeremy hunt the current foreign minister he was just not very colorful he couldnt present himself as the one that sees through jeremy hunt originally in the referendum had voted to remain in the European Union so he wasnt very credible on the issue and it just comes down to it is the main domestic issue here in the u. K. And that conservative Membership Base they just want to see somebody in office who can get it done who can get the u. K. Out of the European Union by the next deadline by october 31st so that explains the popularity of Boris Johnson amongst that leadership sorry Membership Base. In london thank you very much for that update from that. Lets. Not count does brussels view a likely u. K. Prime minister barak. Well and rita johnson is well known here in brussels but also he himself knows brussels brussels quite well hes spent some time growing up here in brussels his father was working in the Group Commission at the time and even before entering politics he spent more than a decade here in brussels reporting as a newspaper correspondent on the new policies and some say during this time he started this british tradition of british skeptical e. U. Journalism in a way with colorful and exaggerated stories about whats actually happening here in the u. And how this is affecting british citizens and this story telling he would also continue as a foreign minister while visiting the European Council where he built a reputation of being ill informed and under fanatic so hes a highly controversial figure here in the brussels bubble and among e. U. Leaders and with this track record there is not much trust that leaders put upon him and violence johnson has talked a lot about using that threat often no deal braggs it to force the e. U. To reopen the big drop agreement is that likely to happen. Boris johnson is using the threats of no deal agreement as a strong negotiating hand at least he sees it like that or he says he sees it like that this could actually easily backfire the deal that is on the table right now took the entire e. U. Member states 17 months of haggling it involves 600. 00 paypals of papers of legal documents so its not easily easy to unravel and start over again plus the e. U. Said time and time again the Current Commission Commission President has said it that this is the best deal that is on the table and it will not be renegotiated and his successor Commission President elect was it off on the line also made clear the deal will not be renegotiated though she is willing to extend the deadline so nobody here in the e. U. Or nobody in the u. N. General wants to one state wants to slam the door shut on the european you on Great Britain nobody wants responsible for this but on the same time they dont want to they want to show that theyre Strong Enough to not let themselves be be pushed around by somebody like Boris Johnson and not thereby set in dangerous precedent for other e. U. Leaders he was trying to max nanda indef to thank you very much for that. And well know within this hour who the new Prime Minister of great United Kingdom will be and of course weve been you live coverage of that as soon as the result comes out now because foreign minister jeremy hunt is called an european allies to create a naval force to protect shipping in the strait of hormuz iran says its not seeking a confrontation with britain but 4 days off it seized a british tanker in the region the vessel remains in iranian hands. U. S. President dont trump a struck a positive note in his 1st meeting with pakistani Prime Minister john kahn relations between the 2 countries have been strained for many years but now the u. S. Is hoping pakistan could be key to ending u. S. Military involvement in neighboring afghanistan. Looking to reset a rocky relationship the leaders of pakistan and the United States have been vocal critics of each up this administrations but they want each of us help imraan khan is seeking to have millions of dollars of u. S. Aid restored after donald trump cut it off last year but all of that can come back depending on where we work out and depending on whether con will help broker a peace deal in afghanistan he says pakistans leverage with the taliban is crucial because the closest we have been through the streets. We hope that. In the coming days we will be able to urge the thought of on the streets of york on no more than going to a city with a political solution the u. S. Wants to extricate itself from an 18 year war that has cost billions of dollars while a flurry of talks have resulted in pledges for peace regular taliban attacks have continued to claim lives. May hope that mondays meeting is a step towards a cease fire but he couldnt resist musing about a plan b. I have plans on afghanistan that if i wanted to win that war afghanistan would be wiped off the face of the earth it would be god it would be over in literally in 10 days and i dont want to do it i dont want to go that route those comments spot outrage in kabul by the government has asked for an official clarification. And from what im now joined by. Asia desk show me firstly how significant is this meeting imran khan is taken his military commander in chief with him and it seems theres a convergence of interests which could lead to improved ties between the 2 countries. You see that imran khan has been sympathetic to the taliban throughout his career is political could. He denies that islam about the box also. Harbors finances islamist militants in the Northern Areas in afghanistan the army says the same thing former Prime Minister nawaz sharif criticised the army to lee told them to stop supporting the taliban and other militant groups within pakistan so there was a conflict between former Prime Minister and the army but now we see that embryonic. General who is visiting with gone to washington there on the same page so. To make a backup policy to get things done i think it is a Good Opportunity for the civil unity government and also to the u. S. Get things done no problem so it all hinges on getting a successful piece didnt have done is done but of gotten this done is not happy a tour with Donald Trumps rhetoric trump said he could wipe out of coniston off the map in a space of 10 days if you wanted how has responded to this. President ial palace condemned the statement they wanted more clarification from trump and they said that they would not like any foreign intervention of going to stun its not just unhappy about drums statement you would have to understand that of guns are unhappy that apparently the u. S. Is giving more leverage to pakistan its probably the u. S. Wants to pakistan to play a major role in this and of guns have all risen but hes skeptical of the i. S. I. The pakistani militarys intelligence agency. The civilian government so i believe that guns are pretty unhappy with the whole situation what was the way things are unraveling at the moment and i dont from what so brought up the kashmir dispute between india and pakistan in fact even came that indian Prime Minister not even a movie and asked him to mediate in this dispute what can you tell us about how this was received. Well india did not i did immediately and opposition parties are urging you know the Prime Minister modi to make a clear statement on this india does not want any International Mediation india does not consider the kashmir conflict an International Conflict. In its internal matter it gives a concession actually to pakistan when it says its a bilateral dispute so india would never agree to such a thing it is surprising that drum came up with this idea that he could mediate the kashmir conflict. Doesnt sound very viable to me. Death thank you very much for that analysis. Thanks for having me. It watching the news coming up ahead catching the. A modern. I click i like i shop online and that produces huge amounts of data but who analyzes it one culprit is the Advertising Industry i look for a curry recipe online and suddenly ads for indian cookbooks pop up everywhere big data is a blessing or a curse our focus today on shit. Im always online my smartphone is always connected wherever i go along the way i leave Digital Footprints and help create a pot of whats known as big data. Researchers have analyzed close to a 1000000 apps from the Google Play Store they found that 90 percent of data and many of these apps send data to several companies that sounds unsettling but does big data have a real effect on my life well let me know if i need my umbrella tomorrow. This vaguer rocket has a new kind of Weather Satellite on board and an altitude of 320 kilometers will collect data that will help meteorologists create Better Weather forecasts. For the 1st time a satellite will be able to measure wind speeds using a laser range. It even works in locations that are normally inaccessible like oceans is a perfect Storm Brewing out there big data can help us predict the weather. Insurance companies also use big data for instance to estimate the impact of natural disasters like flooding and car insurers set their rates according to the risk of theft where the policyholder lips so you might pay more or less for your policy depending on how many cars have been stolen in your neighborhood. Big data can also make your sat nav more useful and precise in a las vegas Pilot Project an onboard computer tells drivers how fast to drive to catch the green light. And in estonia the port of tallinn is a digital showcase project trucks and goods are checked in electronically big data to better logistics and shorter waiting times. So big data is Big Business Companies are investing. In software that analyzes it in 2018 more than 6000000000 euros were spent on big data applications in germany alone. Heres a stunning application from the field of medicine predicting flu epidemics with the help of twitter data researchers at university took 500000000 tweets from around the world and fed them into a watson Computer System once and found the relevant tweets was more it recognized what they were about for instance if the writer got a flu shot or already had flu symptoms this process is known as cognitive computing the digital simulation of human thought processes watson for example he was like through and put information into the right context. Even in sorry day hospital is using big data to diagnose illnesses more quickly and treat them more effectively. This is a chamber cell which has specific molecular markers no 2 tumor cells are the same and ideally therapies would be targeted to the Precision Medicine hopes the term in which therapy is likely to be most effective researchers identify the tumors genetic characteristics to select a targeted treatment. Dr claudia followed direct from Berlin Charity hospital is using big data to improve Cancer Treatment shes collaborating with the Molecular Health Data Analysis company. Did it is generated world why through various clinical studies and Research Experiments and then collected in databases for example Molecular Health checks these databases regularly on a daily basis and compares the results with those from the patient samples. After to get such results tumor cells molecular markers are only lies in a process called sequencing doctors at the sheraton they send the results to Molecular Health. Molecular markers or compared with those of thousands upon thousands of other stored in the companys database. The database also contains information about therapies a report is produced to provides doctors with a recommended treatment tailored to the specific characteristics of the tumour cell. This is what were looking for its the direction we hope things will go in the future wed like patients to receive personalized treatment based on molecular changes we can identify during sequencing. The idea behind the project is revolutionary but using data from so many people as the basis for medical decisions and possibly superseding diagnosis of the patients doctor is also controversial. In germany people are still quite cautious were. Afraid to give others access to our data which is understandable as a researcher id like to manage my own data and know exactly whats happening to it. But i think we must do away with this idea of keeping it all to ourselves the amount of data is just too large for that. Big data has already allowed berlins Charity Hospital to identify individual therapies for some 30 cancer patients. Treating illnesses with the help of big data thats Real Progress and it shows that ai and humans can Work Together for the benefit of mankind. Another thing that has done is make Human Behavior more predictable thats especially interesting for companies who want to target us online with personalized advertising that can still be hit or miss just because of Research Diving expeditions doesnt mean i want to buy a wetsuit right away but data analyst paul monk from from thailand are working on ways to optimize targeting when you play when you like when you start to see you already in all the data that there will it will go to whatever. We are the technology to help the brand to know how to talk the right way to the right consumer with information. From and his fellows andrew cofounders have been actively collecting data since 2013 today the firm employs more than 160 people and mainly analyzes data from the asian market they help authorities and companies to control their image theres been little criticism about how they process the data our job is not on the data but. That is the father brand to understand it so in the end we help it to understand it. Here. But Data Security specialist cash to normal is more critical he believes that the global trade in data is a multibillion dollar business from which only a few players profit. Google alone earns over 100000000000. 00 a year with online. And of course stock 100000000000. 00 has to be recovered somehow through the products that are being advertised so a Single Company earns hundreds or thousands of dollars a year from each internet user. Then there are the data brokers who profit from collecting and analyzing this flood of data using special software we try to find out whos tracking User Behavior the. Triangles here be represent the trackers the circles the web sites visited. Even users who dont log in arent surfing anonymously with every click the trackers Network Grows in this test there were close to 20 trackers for every web site visited. Big Data Analysis helps link that information and produce a digital profile of the user. And. A profile like this describes a person in their fears their needs and possibly their financial situation allowing for advertising to be tailored to meet their budget or to be described as better than even our best friends could one become. So Companies Might know me better than my friends do even very Sensitive Data like that used by health apps as often passed on to data collectors without users knowledge the legal basis for this is sometimes highly questionable. Massive amount of data is generated every day it comes from a variety of sources not just the internet. Whether on Facebook Instagram or net flix every day we humans generate 2500000 terabytes of data but not all of it on the net visit the doctor in your symptoms and diagnoses are stored in servers this data is often anonymous the person to market researchers when you found some of the comments location and Contact Details are scooped up and become part of big data brokers encyclopedia defines big data as a monster so large changes so fast are so varied that they cant be processed with standard software. Exactly how much data counts as big is hard to say as its not stored to analyze centrally i see analysts estimate that in the next 6 years the global data speed will rise to 175 bytes per year one set of byte is equal to 1000000000. 00 terabytes one trillion gigabytes one quadrillion megabytes in comparison a 3 minute m p 3 track is around 3 megabytes in size so one set of point can store around 333 trillion songs processing such masses of data isnt easy there are 3 aspects to consider. There is the hardware aspect what hardware can handle it. Second there is the software that processes the data directly. Theres the algorithms which glean information and knowledge from this data. Coming. Software algorithms its a big business big data is analyzed using Software Platforms called frameworks they divide data between several High Performance servers where it can be processed simultaneously processing that data quickly is key. Data autisms a burden based startup comes in they analyze very large amounts of data very fast using an open source platform called apache flink they help create it processes incoming data in real time and can simultaneously analyze data has already been stored stream processing is a big new thing so its no surprise that chinese complement alibaba snapped up their business for an estimated 90000000 euros earlier this year thats great for the startup founders but is it good for society when healing. Poses a risk that data could be compiled on unaligned to such a way that for instance Human Behavior becomes more predictable and transparent just by fear. And that could end up limiting individual freedom if i had to. Give thanks felt honestly im pretty generous when it comes to my personal data if i look into a service and like it im willing to pay for it with my data but maybe the price really is too high is trading your personal data for free apps or services a Fair Exchange or will big data turn into a surveillance nightmare what do you think join the discussion on facebook on d w dot com goodbye until next time. Thank you. Thank you and visit computer nish to on. This is news coming to you live from berlin a shake up at the top of britains conservatives just minutes from now we find out where the Boris Johnson on jeremy hunt will become the new Party Leader Boris johnson is expected to win and become the british Prime Minister well bring you the result of the leadership vote live from london. Thank you. Alan a womans come to you im welcome to this special edition of the news were Just Moments Away from finding out rich off of these 2 men former london man and a foreign minister bars johnson or current foreign minister jeremy hunt will be britains next conservative party leader. Im. 860000 fatah members the image of them to vote and the result is due to be announced shortly whoever wins is expected to become the next Prime Minister thats offered to resign officially. Resignation to the. So you can see they are the 2 rivals for the post of conservative party leader jeremy hunt the current foreign minister and bars johnson who was foreign minister and hes hoping to become Prime Minister of britain. Looking at the speech is with me in the studio i have my colleague kate brady shes a Political Correspondent and well also be talking to our correspondent. Both she is in london but good let me start with you as everybody is saying that Boris Johnson is the overwhelming favorites to win the post of conservative party leader how is he viewed here in germany well he certainly has been portrayed at least in the media somewhat of a caricature or a lot of headlines today along the lines of are you ready for boris and i think they say is a lot the fact that. Youre not just here in germany and also in the u. K. Is often referred to as his 1st name this is kind of colloquial jogen when you when a lot of the media and even politicians talk about Boris Johnson but of course germany moving forward from a political angle there is one topic on the top of germanys agenda right now when it comes to the u. K. And that of course is brechts it and so they will be making sure that there will be some cooperation at least from this new administration which as we hear is most likely to be led by Boris Johnson but of course there will be quite some trepidation here towards the upcoming result here in germany today of course. Boris johnson has said that he is willing to hold the u. K. Out of the e. U. Come the 31st of october without a deal which of course could have huge economic repercussions and certainly here in germany as well and that is something that from day one since that referendum back in 2016 germany has said that it is very much in favor of. It at all costs i think let me just draw in our correspondent in london and. Tell us now this has been a really long drawn out process remind us how is a conservative policy. Chosen. Yeah well it is a complicated process you would think that a new Prime Minister is just being appointed when the old one resigns but that is not the case what weve seen over the past 2 weeks to recent days resignation and may is that 1st of all there were a number of candidates around 16 that were running then they were voted down by m. P. s one by one and in the end 2 candidates remained those which the current foreign minister and Boris Johnson the former foreign minister so those 2 went through a series of debates and 2 and a half weeks ago and then the conservative members 160002 be exact to vote paper ballot that was sent in to the conservative party headquarters. 2 days ago and then yesterday since yesterday those votes have been counted and were expecting the results to come out momentarily that announcement of who will be the next conservative leader and of course with that tomorrow will be appointed the new Prime Minister here and the United Kingdom in fact were looking at live pictures coming off a Queen Elizabeth cause thats where the result is going to be announced and weve been seeing a lot of people awaiting the anxiously to hear rich off the 2 contenders. Likely to become Prime Minister but clearly in the lead up to this everyone is said Boris Johnson is the clear favorite what makes him the clear favorite in this ballot. Well as i said its the membership that is voting for him and the tory membership has one topic on their mind and that is that at the moment they have seen this process drag out over 3 years since the referendum in june 2016 and they have been hoping that the u. K. Would be out of the European Union at this point that is of course not the case the next deadline to leave is october 31st and so Boris Johnson has promised them time and time again and very credible also that he would be the one that gets the u. K. Out of the European Union by october 31st do or die he says come what may so he will go back to brussels that assist plan to renegotiate that Withdrawal Agreement so that kind of bill that dictates the terms under which the u. K. Leaves the European Union if brussels says were not renegotiating all he does not get a better deal than he has promised those conservative members that now voted for him that he will leave the European Union without a deal which kate mentioned could have catastrophic consequences for the European Union but of course also especially for the United Kingdom but people dont mind that anymore and not people but the conservative Membership Base they dont mind that anymore because they say its better to leave with a no deal and no deal scenario than just having this process dragged out and just quickly the rival in the leadership race jeremy hunt for and current foreign minister he has not been as credible on this issue of bricks that because he voted 3 years ago in that referendum that he wanted to remain in the European Union so that is why we are expecting. Jonson to be the next leader of the conservative party because this issue has been dominating the agenda so much absolutely whenever anyone talks about britain at the moment any leader of the conservative party the next Prime Minister its all about briggss esque it was mentioned as well that its all about briggs it now looking at the possibility that Boris Johnson may be the next Prime Minister of the u. K. And he has said categorically hes prepared to leave the European Union without a deal is this viewed as a genuine added logical position or is it a negotiating tactic in the hope that he might get a better deal from the European Union. Well of course this was also rhetoric in the campaign he needed to say that as i mentioned to win over the conservative members and we really dont know what kind of Boris Johnson will be the next Prime Minister will be the more extreme boris will be the more pragmatic one will see and that goes to brussels to renegotiate that deal it is very hard to say it also depends on what kind of advisors he will get and what his cabinet might look like were expecting after this announcement at some point tonight and then in the course of the day tomorrow that Boris Johnson will make major cabinet announcements on who he will be working closely with and it depends the big question there is of course will he choose more pro city is that are going to help him get the u. K. Out of the European Union all will he also get some remain us on board those who wanted to stay in the European Union all along so at the moment we can only speculate if he would really see that no deal through. But what is important to mention is that he will have very very tough 1st 100 days in office 100 days im saying because that is the deadline of when the u. K. Is leaving the European Union and already we are hearing a lot of criticism also within the conservative party from within the conservative party against Boris Johnson weve seen a number of resignations because the worry is that he will really see it through that makes the u. K. Crash out on october 31st and of course there are also many conservatives who do not want that and showed when youve been talking to us weve been looking were looking at live pictures of Queen Elizabeth hold thats where the result is going to be announced ill be looking at people and were seeing 3 empty chairs and of course i guess. The key people involved in this contest the 2 of them being of course johnson and jeremy hunt. No we are seeing some people walking in which could be an indication that we might have a result soon you can see the podium is still empty the announcement is going to be made by the court chair or what is called the 922. 00 committee and Charlie Walker they are the 2 officials who are going to be announcing the result the contest between Barnes Johnson and jeremy hunt who is the current foreign minister of britain all indications that this ballot will go in favor of. Johnson a controversial figure as weve been hearing from charlotte votes and also viewed a bit controversially here in germany as weve been hearing from our Political Correspondent kate breen now we can see people still waiting looking to clocks and ready for that announcement while we read it let me put a question to Political Correspondent get ready of course as we were talking briggs it is the main issue in everybodys mind when one looks at the leadership question in britain what does germany expect from a new u. K. Prime minister i mean the thing that germany and the rest of the year is waiting for right now is some Movement Forward of course the. Debate has been very much a standstill about a deal that was put on the table by the outgoing u. K. Prime minister terrys and i was rejected 3 times and so they will be waiting now to see exactly how Boris Johnson here is expected to take. As Prime Minister of the u. K. How he actually intends on moving things forward the e. U. And germany standing way that what the other e. U. Member states has said that negotiations when it comes to this deal not to be reopened and so itll be interesting to see exactly what the tactic is going to be from the new u. K. Prime minister but. She held her some press. Last week saying that it would that the future of relations between the u. K. And brussels will very much depend on how the new u. K. Prime minister actually engages with the new president of the e. U. Commission and of course that is the former German Defense minister. Who interestingly will be taking over that post as the president of the e. U. Commission on the 1st of november so the day after the u. K. Is set to leave the European Union but interestingly funder lyon has said that she is willing to extend the brics deadline again if need be but of course as i mentioned she will be coming into that post as the president of the e. U. Commission after the current deadline but as weve seen before the u. K. Has already missed a couple of deadlines were. A good couple of years for the march 29th that passed as by well that happened again on october 31st that certainly seems to be the hope among a lot of politicians here in germany that they want to see the best deal possible for the e. U. For germany. But of course now with the chance of Boris Johnson taking over as u. K. Prime minister that might give us like ok let me just. Sing these life which is coming to you from yes and were listening to now the proceedings have just started there and were just hearing. Lewis is about to speak lets take a listen to what hes saying a party that is fundamentally strong and united in its common purpose to deliver prosperity petunia Free Security for everyone you know you know what you can do. We want to you throughout this election. We are professional working together to deliver a fair and official election. It held hostage in 16 towns and cities watch across the United Kingdom in every region and in every nation candidates of covered some 3000 miles taken over 400 questions and also hours and hours worth of questions in interviews culminating in that fantastic event at the xcel just last wednesday and we welcomed fallons of our Party Members and friends and family to meet directly from our candidates i defer for Political Party we held an unlighted law at hoskings open to everyone in our country and indeed beyond i want to pay tribute to the team at c. C. H. Q. In particular for money both the membership and nice try testing costings and i also want to thank my parliamentary colleagues for their support through that process in particular the members of the 922 committee brilliantly led by charles will captain dana show get a look into the attorney offices throughout this process and it gives us such an official professional effect to start and run through this process and one of the members of the conservative party thank you those members our friends our family and our colleagues have undertaken a solemn duty in choosing our next leader who will be this countrys next Prime Minister that engage constructively thoughtfully and positively in the process a chance to choose our leader is a privilege and i believe our party has risen to that task a funny i want to take this opportunity to say thank you so i come across mr teresa my leadership of our party and our country over the last 3 years something that was never going to be an easy task. Well thank you brandon can i thank you and your team a conservative Central Office for doing a fantastic job its been a team effort and shown the conservative family at its best and if i could make one plea as a backbencher can we be kind to the next Prime Minister than weve been to the current Prime Minister if so without further delay im going to hand you over to the wonderful cochair of the 922 committee dame cheryl. If i thank you very much charles only 24th of may the Prime Minister the right honorable theresa may announced she would be standing down as leader of our party on the 7th of june and over the past 46 days 1022 committee organized 5 ballots of members of parliament and then worked with the Party Chairman and the Electoral Reform services to present the final 2 candidates say all qualifying members of the conservative and Unionist Party could vote for a new leader i want to take a charless thanks to brandon and in particular to the party board and the party stuff less sterling work on the hustings and also the ers who have conducted a very professional operation collecting and counting the votes from home and abroad. And also the 1922 executive especially my cochairman Charles Walker with him it has been a pleasure to work and at least we have brought equality to the top of the 1922 committee that gender balance is important. And the offices of the 122 Committee Said Geoffrey Clifton brown bob blackman and nigel evans all together here today and our own parliamentary staff who have given up their spare time to help conduct what i believe has been a very successful election finally i would like to thank all those Party Members who voted and those who stood in the election and particularly my colleagues sternly hunt and or strengths and who despite the challenges of a contest run in the glare of press comment and public scrutiny i believe have emerged as worthy candidates the position of leader about if. If. If if if. Now i think youve all been waiting long enough that but in in the on edge tradition im going to ask my beautiful assistant to hand to hand me the on the late for the announcement. If its called teamwork. I danger will given the joint returning officer for the conservative and Unionist Party leadership election declared that the total number of eligible electors was 159320 the turnout in the election was 87. 4 percent the total number of ballot papers rejected was 509. 00. And the changing number of eights given to each candidate was as follows jeremy hunt 46656 or his strengths and 92153. And therefore i give notice that Boris Johnson is elected as the leader of the can said thank you well hurry. The 11. 1111 i can find out the 100. 11 year old. Was thinking about. Thank you sarah thank you charles thank you very much brandon for a fantastic fact anywhere organize campaign i think it did a lot of credit as as biden has just said to our party to our values into our ideals but i want to begin by thanking my opponent jeremy by Common Consent absolutely formidable campaigner and a great leader and a great politician join me in the course of 20 houses or more i mean 20 hustings the hustings style events he was moving 3000 miles by those about 7000 miles that we did crisscrossing the country youve been friendly youve been good natured youve been a front of excellent ideas all of which i propose to steal. And above all i want to thank going lida to reason mary for her Extraordinary Service to this party and to this country it was a pretty the ely it was a privilege to serve in her cabinet and to see the passion and determination that she brought to the many causes that are. Legacy from equal pay for men and women to tackling the problems of Mental Health and Racial Discrimination in the criminal Justice System thank you to reason thank you and i want to thank all of you all of you here today everybody in the conservative party for your hard work for your campaigning and feel public spirit and obviously for the extraordinary honor and privilege that youve just conferred on me and i. Know that there will be people around the place who will question the wisdom of your decision. And then maybe even be some people here who still want to work quite what they have done. And i would just point out you that because nobody no one party no one person has a monopoly of wisdom but if you look at the history of the last 200 years of this partys existence you will see that it is we conservatives who have had the best insights i think into human nature and in the best in the 0. 15 its hard to manage the jostling sets of instincts in the human hot and time and again it is to us that the people of this country have turned to get that balance right between the instinct to own your own house your own home to spend your own money to look after your own family good instincts proper instincts noble instincts and the equally noble instinct to share and to give everyone a fair chance in life and to look after the poorest in the neediest and to build a Great Society i dont know hold in the last 200 years it is we conservatives who have understood best how to encourage those instincts to Work Together in harmony to promote the good of the whole country. And today at this Pivotal Moment in our history we again have to reconcile 2 sets of instincts 2 noble sets of instincts between the deep desire for friendship and free trade a mutual support in security and defense between britain and our European Partners and the simple taney of desire equally deep and heartfelt the democratic selfgovernment in this country. And of course are some people say that their irreconcilable and it just cant be done and indeed i read in my Financial Times this morning devoted reader that i have seriously a great great great great great Great British press i read in my Financial Times this morning that there are no incoming leader there were incoming leader has ever faced such a daunting set of circumstances it said when i look at you this morning and i ask myself do you look daunted. Do you feel daunted i dont think i did to you to remake the dont to me and i think that we know that we can do it and that the people of this country are trusting in us to do it and we know that we will do it and we know the mantra of the campaign that has just gone by in case youve forgotten it. It probably has it it was going to college it is deliver breaks it unite the country and defeat Jeremy Corbett and those who didnt know. You. I know saw some waggles already pointed out that deliver good night and defeat was not the perfect acronym for an Election Campaign since all pushing it spells dud but they forgot the final easy my friends the energy audience and i say i say to all the doctors dude we are going to energize the country were going to get great sick dog on october thought it was going to take advantage of all the opportunities that it will bring in a new spirit of can do and we are once again going to believe in ourselves and what we can achieve unlike some slumbering joint were going to rise and ping off the guy ropes a self diet and negativity with better education better infrastructure more police fantastic food Fiber Broadband sprouting in every household we are going to unite this amazing country and we are going to take it forward i thank you all very much for the incredible honor that youve just done me i will work flat out from now on with my team that i will build i hope to the next few days to repay your confidence but in the mean time the campaign is over and the work begins thank you all very much. Thanks to watching our coverage coming to continue their reserves are foreign to me if you feel. Johnson did not take over and Prime Minister tomorrow at the baby it is after he meets the queen and he is then endorsed as the Prime Minister this was a contest between the countrys foreign minister jeremy hunt and between barras johnson and as predicted as expected as just said Boris Johnson was the care favorite and the results show that he has won the election the leadership contest and he got just over 92000 of the votes where is his rival jeremy hunt got just over 46 pounds and off the votes you saw this of the 1st. Brandon lewis the chairman of the conservative party introduced the proceedings and we had dame cheryl who announced the result with the head of what she called her beautiful assistant and that was walker. Of the 922. 00 committee and then she said its all about teamwork and then the result was announced she described both candidates as one of the candidates and there was huge applause in Queen Elizabeth when she described him as one of the candidates now and the result is out Boris Johnson has won the leadership contest at the conservative Party Correspondent shot of parts is in london and joins me now from there so shallow as you said Boris Johnson was a favorite of the has one what did you make of what he had to say off to his in his victory speech. Well i thought his speech was very conciliatory he was sinking not only to reason may rule he has fought for the past 2 years when she was in office as Prime Minister but also thanking his rival jeremy hunt the current foreign minister for a fair race he said so he was being very conciliatory and i think this is exactly what he needs to be right now because the conservative party in itself is an extremely divided Boris Johnson is an incredibly divisive figure we have already seen kind of this announcement in expectation that he would become the next Prime Minister a number of resignations from. Cabinet members saying opposing the next administration saying they wouldnt under a Prime Minister johnson and johnson here was trying to reach out to those in his party that are opposing him they are opposing him by the way because Boris Johnson has about to take the u. K. Out of the European Union even without a deal and some many in the conservative party. So i think the speech was very conciliatory very much looking now as to what he wants what kind of Prime Minister he wants to be but he didnt go in detail yet on any policies on specialty not on the contentious topic of. He didnt go in detail saying how you would land on handling that situation. Because that was not what the president do. In the studio kids you listen to what to say lots of interesting soundbites and what he said but what did you make off his initial comments i mean it was very much what we were expecting in true Boris Johnson style very relaxed and at the podium given his victory speech with his hand in his pocket and already rolling out the puns as he takes over. Reading quite daunting task but as we had from Boris Johnson the new conservative party leader in the u. K. He is not daunted by this task before him which of course is delivering brecks that i think was interesting that he brought up 3 main points of he said that he wants to deliver bricks that unite the country and defeat Jeremy Colvin but of course the main thing everyone will be focusing on 1st at least over here in germany and also in brussels across the e. U. Will be how Boris Johnson when he is likely endorsed tomorrow by the queen to become the new u. K. Prime minister how intends on delivering brecks it of course one of the big scares here in germany is of course his vow to pull the u. K. Out of the e. U. That deadline of the october something that germany wants to avoid that could have huge economic repercussions. And business and so they will be watching very close they self said that despite last week. About the outgoing Prime Minister to resign may that although it wasnt an easy task and they havent always seen eye to eye they were still always able to work in what she described as a reliable and companionable way and and germany will no doubt be hoping to continue that now but well just have to see exactly who as well will be in the new cabinet come tomorrow will be a lot of rumors in the u. K. Of course a lot of was mentioning earlier some senior cabinet ministers have already said they are standing down theyre not willing to support Boris Johnsons there will be interesting to see if he even now if he can get that support back home for bracks and his new cabinet. Yet another task to get support behind him in the e. U. As well of course he is somewhat of a foe and less of a friend in circles as well as if you think back to where he started in the journalist many give him at least the credit to speak of beginning that those controversial comments about the e. U. In the u. K. As role in the e. U. In london you know the task ahead of Boris Johnson Prime Minister tomorrow is daunting but it is mentioned he doesnt look daunted at all and throw out his gun if comments there was a lot of humor there are a lot of puns what happens next now because he wants to unite the country and he said his father was the campaign is over the book starts what is this book now. Well i mean 1st of all he has to become Prime Minister and hes not yet the leader of the conservative party now and tomorrow we will see the reason may giving a resignation speech in front of number 10 downing street then heading to the queen to hand in her official resignation and shortly after then the queen will welcome Boris Johnson and officially. Announce a mass the new Prime Minister he will then move into number 10 and of course take calls from World Leaders congratulating them among bad donald trump the u. S. President is going to be amongst them a very important relationship Going Forward because the United Kingdom desperately wants a good trade deal with the United States for after they have left the European Union so its going to be very interesting to see how these 2 men get along course other World Leaders were expecting to call them this well like the chancellor of germany he will appoint now the ministers for his cabinet its going to be very interesting to see whether those more breaks the cheers that are going to help him and stand behind him in his push to get the u. K. Out of the European Union by october 31st so we are expecting those announcement and for sure we will see also a few more resignations and he will also sec people when he comes into number 10 downing street so there could be a fair bit of political turbulence and had with the next 48 hours are going to be very interesting as we see how this all pans out charlotte in a london thank you very much for your coverage from there and with me in the studio i thank Political Correspondent for your assessment a new analysis as the United Kingdom has a new leader of the conservative party and his name is baras johnson thank you both. So britain has a new conservative party leader and to be Prime Minister baraks johnson it was an unlikely twist for the man who once said there was as much chance of finding ever specially on mars as off him becoming Prime Minister heres a look at his career and his unlikely rise to power. He no longer has to knock Boris Johnson now has the keys to number 10 he started his career in journalism but politics came calling in 2001 he won a seat in parliament for the conservative party in 2008 came a new challenge therefore officially declared Boris Johnson to be elected as the next of london. Mayor johnson oversaw the 2012 summer olympics in london and the games were a success supporting him into the global limelight. Frightfulness its over i suppose compete. But in a good way in a good way that will that do. Famous for his is centric behavior but also for his embarrassing gaffes like here when he knocked over a 10 year old boy during a rugby game in tokyo. But it was on the issue of brecks it that he was most controversial johnson defied his Prime Minister becoming a leading figure in the campaign for britain to leave the e. U. Will remain locked in the back of the car driven in an uncertain direction from me to a place we dont want to go and perhaps by a driver who doesnt speak the very best of english leaf warned the referendum but there was controversy over some of the claims made by johnson and his fellow brits it is. May 2016 for a new Prime Minister to raise a may made him her foreign secretary to many a surprise appointment. A personal statement was the polish jones. Johnson was the author of mays vision for press it and resigned in protest it is not too late to save brits when may couldnt get her brakes if your 3 parliament she announced her resignation and johnson emerged as the front runner to take her job 3 years and 2 missed deadlines we must leave the e. U. On october the 30. 3 trav vats would now be the greatest challenge for Prime Minister johnson but hes promised to make bricks it happen deal or no deal or. Theres some crossover to brussels correspondent max max how does the russes view the u. K. Prime Boris Johnson as the new Prime Minister of the United Kingdom as he will be tomorrow. Of course johnson has quite a reputation here he spent a lot of time here in brussels his father used to work at the commission so he spent a good deal of his youth growing up here and then later before he entered politics a career in politics he spent a career in journalism working as a newspaper correspondent from here in brussels reporting on you policies and some say that he started the tradition of british skeptical journalism by putting a colorful and exaggerated stories about whats happening here in the boncelles bubble so then later as a foreign minister while visiting the European Council johnson got the reputation of being very ill informed that on diplomatic so he remains your boss was as a very controversial figure. So a lot of money using the threat of a no deal brigs it to force the e. U. To reopen the drawer agreement is that likely to happen. Johnson is using this threat as a strong negotiating hand which could easily backfire the deal that was agreed upon 28. 00 Member States took 17 months to 2 to find it entails 600. 00 papers of legal documents so its quite difficult to to unravel and start all over again plus the us been very precise and has been very clear that this is the best deal that they will get that britain will get and its not up for renegotiation in fact just before the announcement the deputy head of the e. U. Commission funston among so called a possible northfield brets at a tragedy and he said quote the United Kingdom reach an agreement with the European Union and the European Union will stick to the agreement. But they has been some talk already in brussels that and the e. U. Is prepared to offer the u. K. Another extension to the majority deadline how likely is that. Well this all depends on the Prime Minister the Prime Minister has to request a formal formally request another extension a 3rd extension of the backs of dead though which is on the 31st of october right now and then the council will have to agree on that so at the moment it all depends on the Boris Johnson and what his plans or. Right mark sunda our correspondent in brussels reacting to the election of Boris Johnson as the leader of the conservative party in the United Kingdom thank you very much. Youre watching news has a recap of the top story that youre following feel Boris Johnson has been elected the new leader of Britains Conservative Party and is now expected to become the countrys next Prime Minister the former foreign minister and former mayor of london comfortably won advantage of Party Members as predicted my post says in his victory speech johnson repeated his vow to deliver bread sit and youre not the country. Bond in germany was just interchangeable you know they shared a lot of the same characteristics paf chest always difficult to be all that is sort of things but i do think the impression of a finance is really changed in recent years not just because. Of. I think if i wanted watched its far easier to see. Football from all over the world wherever you are in in the world things also parochial nowadays i think people globally know more about bond and theyre easy to sit close to courses but also the way that. Made them play. A brand of football and you know that was the idea of the club to create a brand of football as well as the the bond brand so. You know i think people appreciate it maybe for football more than i ever did before. Even watching i mean trying to fully program is all still on the pitch at the emirates even the guardian has gone to still kind of a shot of us in that in the fact that theyre playing out on those at the start of training that that is something that the players love to see and really enjoy it you can just hear them were free and hollering for a 10200 mi is a right hook but. This is deja news coming to you live from berlin a new leader for Britains Conservative Party a Prime Minister in waiting and Boris Johnson pledges to take the u. K. Out of the European Union and the brits will unite the country and defeat. Political. Conservative Party Members the rebels mainly votes to place johnston at the head of their Party Setting him up to become educated next Prime Minister. Hun welcome cheema Boris Johnson is the new leader of britains governing conservatives after comfortably winning a postal ballot of Party Members. As the leader of the conservative i. Johnson won 65 percent of the vote in a head to head race against foreign minister jeremy hunt to victory put some a step closer to fulfilling his long held ambition of becoming british Prime Minister the current Prime Minister to resign me is expected to officially hand in her resignation tomorrow paving the way for johnson to take over her job. Joining me now is our london correspondent charlotte pass shallow what is your reaction to the result of this leadership contest no surprise. Shall do you hear me i think were having trouble with the line to london charlotte to hear me. I think we having trouble with that line so while we we why the way to kind of establish a line to her lets take a listen to what Boris Johnson had to say after the result of the leadership contest was announced his 1st speech as the diff the conservative party i. Thank you cheryl thank you charles thank you very much brandon for plant traffic but as we will organize campaign i think it did a lot of credit is as proud of his just said to our party to our values and to our ideals but i want to begin by thanking my opponent here me by Common Consent absolutely formidable campaigner and a great leader and a great politician in the course of 2020 hustings one has to start out events it was more than 3000 miles by those about 7000 miles that we did crisscrossing the country youve been friendly youve been could make should you be the forms of excellent ideas all of which i propose to steal. With. And above all i want to thank going lida to reason mary for her Extraordinary Service to this party and to this country it was a it could be it was a privilege to serve in her cabinet and to see the passion and determination that she brought to the many causes that are her legacy from equal pay for men and women to tackling the problems of Mental Health and Racial Discrimination in the criminal Justice System thank you to resign thank you and i want to thank all of you all of you here today obviously everybody in the conservative party for your hard work for your campaigning our fuel public spirit and obviously for the extraordinary honor and privilege that youve just conferred on me and i know that there will be people around the place who will question the wisdom of your decision. And there may even be some people here who still wonder what quite what they have done and i would just point out you that of course nobody no one party no one person has a monopoly of wisdom but if you look at the history of the last 200 years of this partys existence you will see that it is we conservatives who have had the best insights i think into human nature and in the best interest and set it to how to manage the jostling sets of instincts in the human hot. And time and again it is to us that the people of this country have turned to get that balance right between the instinct to own your own house home to spend your own money to look after your own family good instincts proper instincts noble instincts and the equally noble instinct to share and to give everyone a fair chance in life and to look after the poorest in the neediest and to build a Great Society and on the whole in the last 200 years it is we conservatives who have understood best how to encourage those instincts to Work Together in harmony to promote the good of the whole country and today at this Pivotal Moment in our history we again have to reconcile 2 sets of instincts 2 noble sets of instincts between the deep desire for friendship and free trade and mutual support in security and defense between britain and our European Partners and the small taney of society equally deep and heartfelt the democratic selfgovernment in this country. Some people say that their irreconcilable and they just cant be done and indeed i read in my Financial Times this morning the very. Seriously the great great great Great British Great British crown i read in my Financial Times this morning that their new incoming leader they were incoming leader has ever faced such a daunting set of circumstances it said when i look at you this morning and i ask myself do you look daunted. Do you feel daunted. I mean i think that we know that we can do it and that the people of this country are trusting us to do it and we know that we will do it and we know the mantra of the campaign that is just. In case youve forgotten it. It is the brits. Unite the country. And that is if i and i mean i was a london correspondent shot a bus shot what is your reaction to the result of that leadership contest which has been won by Boris Johnson no surprise there well it is it doesnt come as a surprise everybody here and london and the u. K. Was expecting that he got twice as many votes as his rival jeremy hunt the current foreign minister and we have to say jeremy hunt ran a good companion we have to say that to be fair but Boris Johnson was just more popular with the Membership Base of the chary party that voted and just to remind you there are 60000000 people in this country in the u. K. 160000 of them now it shows the conservative leader and they are by the next Prime Minister amrita now youre standing in front of parliament thats where tomorrow a bar is chance johnson will need to win his majorities in the future especially on greg said how difficult is that going to be for him. Its going to be tremendously difficult for him really because the conservatives hold just a very very slight majority in parliament and to resign may wasnt able to get a majority while she was in office as Prime Minister she has tried again and again to get home withdraw all agreements that divorce part of the bricks the deal for the u. K. To leave the European Union through parliament and she has failed so the question is why would boris why would parliament changes my its mind now that Boris Johnson is becoming the Prime Minister so he has to work with those slight majority so he really has to rally his own party also behind him because they are extremely divided on the issue of bracks said Boris Johnson has promised as weve been reporting that he wants to leave to the you have the u. K. Leave the European Union come what may no matter what and many members of his own party are not very happy with that so they have been we have seen a number of resignations already. Of ministers senior ministers saying they are not going to be the next i think the station and Boris Johnson and showed me just how to listen to Boris Johnsons socalled victory speech and he promised 3 things and he talked about deliver great city youre not the country and defeat jeremy cool but in Jeremy Coleman of course is the leader of the labor party do you think the snap election could be around the corner. Well it might you never know what is happening here what is going to happen in the u. K. I dont think that Boris Johnson himself would call a snap election he has just gotten the keys to downing street and he has been waiting for that for a long time so i dont know why he would call a snap election but of course there are other ways to call a general election and then it would be a showdown between Boris Johnson and jeremy hunt on the other hand we have to save both euro skeptics of course Boris Johnson has led the for campaign during that referendum but also Jeremy Colvin is not very much on the european side hes been a euro skeptic all along so its going to be a very interesting race between these 2 complete polar opposite men if it came to a general election and i think other parties like the liberal democrats for example who are very much pro european and who want to remain in the European Union would profit from that now again what in his speech had to be interesting the sentence when you talked about managing the joyous things said to instinct in the human heart and he said the conservative party was best placed to do that it had the insights into the human heart is still conservative prosecutor but tomorrow hes going to become Prime Minister tell us what happens next what are the steps which take place now. So were going to see i think a number of major cabinet announcements from from Boris Johnson and we will learn for example who becomes the next foreign minister if jeremy hunt for extra stay on his rival in the leadership race if you would stay on this foreign minister who becomes defend its minister is set of course very important posts and we will know more about that tonight and the cause of the day tomorrow but then tomorrow its really crunch day the turnaround between. Matter of hours and what we will see happening is that theresa may hold a resignation speech in front of the 10 downing street she will then go to the queen. To officially resign her post as Prime Minister and shortly after the queen will welcome Boris Johnson for the 1st time and officially make him Prime Minister he will then go to number 10 downing street and hold a short speech before he himself moves in there its a very interesting process 50 percent of employees from to resume a Civil Servants will stay on to just ensure that kind of continuity within downing street 50 per cent annually appointed by Boris Johnson and its going to be very interesting to see who hes taking as his close advisors thats where they will be interesting to see shall stay where you are because ill come back to you when youre standing in front of parliament where the appears to be a very noisy protest going on and judging by the flags that im seeing behind you it is possibly a pro e. U. Protest but silvio ill come back to you later but 1st lets move on and once claimed it was unlikely he would become Prime Minister and he said that there was as much chance of finding Elvis Presley on mons but many who knew Boris Johnson also say that leaving the u. K. Government has always been his goal in life lets take a look at johnsons career and his sometimes bumpy rise to power. He no longer house to knock johnson now has the keys to number 10 he started his career in journalism but politics came calling in 2001 he won a seat in parliament for the conservative party in 2008 came a new challenge for officially to clear. To be elected as the next. Mayor johnson over 2012 summer olympics. The games were a success at supporting him into the global limelight the overwhelming feeling is is. Thankfulness that its over us because compete take it. In a good way in a good way about that will that do. Famous for his the centric behavior but also for his embarrassing gaffes like here when he knocked over a 10 year old boy during a rugby game in tokyo. But it was on the issue of brecks it he was most controversial johnson defied his Prime Minister becoming a leading figure in the campaign for britain to leave the e. U. Will remain locked in the back of the car driven in an uncertain direction from it to a place we dont want to go and perhaps by a driver who doesnt speak the very best of english leave one director random but there was controversy over some of the claims made by johnson and his fellow brits it is. May 26th seen for a new Prime Minister to raise a may made him her foreign secretary to many a surprise appointment. A personal statement as to Boris Johnson yeah but johnson was the ultimate maze vision for brick sit and resigned in protest it is not too late to say brits. When may couldnt get her breakthrough deal with 3 parliament she announced her resignation and johnson emerged as the front runner to take her job for 3 years and 2 missed deadlines we must leave the e. U. On october. Trav vats would now be the greatest challenge for Prime Minister always johnson but hes promised to make bricks it happen deal or no deal. And returning now to a shot of parts in london and from brussels we have our correspondent max max let me start with you now the illness be closely watching the leaders there watching the results of this initiative contest of the conservative party in the u. K. Has there been any reaction yet in brussels to the election of bars johnson. Yes the chief brix of negotiator Michel Barnier was among the 1st to react to the announcement and he said that the European Union would work closely together to manage an orderly. Basically repeating the e. U. Guidelines and also there was reactions from acting or the now Commission President. And through a spokesperson he congratulated Boris Johnson to his election but didnt add any other news to it were going to turn to you a shot of whats happened still Boris Johnsons rival for the job jeremy conj the current foreign minister well that is a good question we dont know yet of course but one possibility is that his rival will stay on as foreign minister we have to remember at the moment the u. K. Is in an International Crisis with iran its a major International Crisis because because iran has captured a u. K. Flag its a tanker carrying oils through the gulf through the Straight Talk from us and the u. K. Has an iranian tanker and its hands so this is a crisis that is unfolding jeremy hunt really has been the face of this crisis and he has been getting criticism but he has also been more present than any other member of the government so far so it might be a matter of stability that Boris Johnson will keep him on as foreign minister and max not Boris Johnsons whole campaign has been on delivering briggs a do or die by the 21st off too but hes completely rejected the deal which was a read on by the e. U. He will soon renegotiate it is a delusion to think that he can get a new deal. Well hes certainly trying everything he can including threats to get a no deal but the line of the European Union the Member States it was quite clear they said time and time again that they would not reopen the due to do that is on the table right now that has not been ratified at home in Great Britain but in the European Council this is the deal that theyre going to get now the only thing that has changed is basically who the European Union who the Member States the council they would be dealing with but apart from that there that sets to not change not alter the deal whats Commission President elect was off on the line already said that she would be willing to extend the deadline to give. British governments more time to explain the deal to sell the deal back home in the u. K. Evidently you shall have because you know there are some critics off Boris Johnson in europe some critics regard him as a bit of a bumbling fool is there any kind of indication as to how he feels as to how hes perceived among the europeans if it bothers him in any way. Yeah no i dont think he sees it that way of course i mean he is very glad now that he has made it finally into number 10 downing street and i think his main focus will be on breakfast and the coming days that he will have to outline a concrete plan there on what he is going to do until october 31st basically and his 1st 100. 00 days in office and its going to be very very crucial for him right parts in london max zonda in brussels thank you both very much for your perspectives on the election of. Johnson as the leader of the conservative party in the u k. Lets turn to some other news and let me bring you up to date with other stories making news around the wild south korean fighter jets fired hundreds of warning shots off the Russian Military economic advantage of the countrys aspace so it says the russian planes flew over dr islands also claimed by japan which cause them talking Russias Defense Ministry denies the accusations saying its valmai sky drills over international waters. Heres present donald trump has struck a positive note in his 1st meeting with pakistani Prime Minister in don come on relations between the 2 countries have been strained for many years but now the u. S. Is hoping pakistan could be key to ending u. S. Military involvement in neighboring afghanistan. Looking to reset a rocky relationship the leaders of pakistan and the United States have been focal critics of each opposite ministrations but they want each others help imran khan is seeking to have millions of dollars of u. S. Aid restored after donald trump cut it off last year but all of that can come about depending on what we work out and depending on whether con will help broker a peace deal in afghanistan he says pakistans leverage with the taliban is crucial because the closest we have been through at least the. Real vote. In the coming days we will be able to urge the follow on to speak with you on no more than going to sit with a political solution the u. S. Wants to extricate itself from an 18 year war that has cost billions of dollars while a flurry of talks have resulted in pledges for peace regular taliban attacks have continued to claim lives. May hope that mondays meeting is a step towards a cease fire but he couldnt resist musing about a plan b. I have plans on afghanistan that if i wanted to win that war afghanistan would be wiped off the face of the earth who would regard the. It would be over and literally in 10 days and i dont want to do it i dont want to go that route those comments spot in kabul by the government has asked for an official powerful case. And from what im not joined by the. Asia desk show me firstly how significant is this meeting in nonconscious taken his military commander in chief with him and it seems there is a convergence of interests which could lead to improved ties between the 2 countries. You see that imran khan has been sympathetic to the taliban throughout his career is political could. He denies that islam about the box. Finances islamist militants in the Northern Areas in afghanistan the army says the same thing former Prime Minister nawaz sharif criticised the army to didley told them to stop supporting the taliban and other militant groups within pakistan so there was a conflict between former Prime Minister and the army the army but now we see that embryonic. General who is visiting with gone to washington there on the same page so. To make about the policy to get things done i think it is a Good Opportunity for the civilian government and also to the u. S. Get things done no probably so it all hinges on getting a success for the stealing of done is done but of god this done is not happy a tour with Donald Trumps rhetoric trump said he could wipe out of coniston off the map in a space of 10 days if you wanted how discovered responded to this. President ial palace condemned the statement they wanted more clarification from trump and they said that they would not like any foreign intervention of gun is done its not just unhappy about drums statement you have to understand that of guns are unhappy that apparently the u. S. Is giving more leverage to pakistan its probably the u. S. Wont pakistan to play a major role in this and of guns have always been going skeptical of the i. S. I. The pakistani militarys intelligence agency. The civilian government so i believe that guns are pretty unhappy with the whole situation what was the way things are unraveling at the moment an adult from what so brought up the kashmir dispute between india and pakistan in fact even came that indian Prime Minister met in them with the and asked him to mediate in this dispute what can you tell us about how this was received. Well india did not i did immediately and opposition parties are urging you know the prime mr modi to make a clear statement on this india does not want any International Mediation india does not consider the kashmir conflict an International Conflict in. Its internal matter it gives a concession actually to pakistan when it says its a bilateral dispute so india would never agree to such a thing it is surprising that drum came up with this idea he could mediate the kashmir conflict. Doesnt sound very viable to me i. Mean she sounds from death thank you very much for that analysis. Thanks for having me. First. Ive come to Chongqing City a high tech metropolis in Central China where the jailing river meets the yanks and im here to meet one of the 10000000 people whove seen the dark side of the social Credit System investigative journalist leo who. With his street smart hands on approach who has exposed high level corruption and solve to murder cases abandoned by the police in many countries hed be celebrated not in china where there are no tone from our time the government regards me as an enemy and then the Mainstream Media is like a Propaganda Machine for the party. This is deja news coming to you live from the land a new leader for Britains Conservative Party a Prime Minister in waiting and Boris Johnson pledges to take the u. K. It onto the European Union and deliver britain unite the country and defeat him because of it and that is a look at the top conservative Party Members all the good many votes took place in johnston at the head of the Party Setting him off to become the u. K. s next Prime Minister. Helen. Welcome im retired shima Boris Johnson is a new leader of britains governing conservatives after comfortably winning a postal ballot of party member as Forrest Johnson was elected as the leader of the confab if. Johnson won 65 percent of the vote in a head to head race against foreign minister jeremy hunt the victory put simple step closer to becoming Prime Minister the current todo off the office to resign me is expected to officially handed her resignation tomorrow behaving the way for johnson to take over her job. Now in his acceptance speech johnson said that voters were looking to conservatives to strike the right balance in delivering big city heres what he said but. This Pivotal Moment in our history we again have to reconcile 2 sets of instincts 2 noble sets of instincts between the deep desire for friendship and free trade and mutual support and security and defense between britain and our European Partners and the small tain use desire equally deep and heartfelt the democratic government in this country for joining me now is our london correspondent show a lot of pot shots of what has been the reaction to the result of the leadership contest in the conservative party. Well Boris Johnsons friends and fans are of calls excited to see him in that position and to move into number 10 downing street tomorrow they are saying that he brings the right optimism to the table to finally solve the u. K. s problems and of course they have plenty his critics of course saying that johnson is unfit for office that he is unfocused and not very detail oriented and that is that he is going to be a bad Prime Minister and i think overall many people here in the u. K. Are asking themselves how in a country of 60000000 people only 160000 those conservative members got to vote for him and finally decide who is going to be the next Prime Minister so want to all of the next steps before johnson takes over as Prime Minister. So we will hear a number of cabinet announcements at some point today and also tomorrow of course the main ministries there being foreign and defense who is going to be on that cabinet its a big question because he is probably going to rally some of those bricks a ts that are going to help him get the u. K. Out of the European Union in his cabin and together were going to see him move into number 10 downing street tomorrow to rescind may hold some final speech in front of downing street will then head over to the queen hand in her official resignation and very quickly after Boris Johnson will join the queen and become officially the new Prime Minister he will then move into downing street and we can expect later on tomorrow of course calls to. Calls from World Leaders for the new Prime Minister amongst and im sure donald trump 2 men that have to have a Good Partnership Going Forward because the u. K. Needs a good tree it trades deal with the United States when they are leaving finally the European Union rush out of bullets in front of the British Parliament but a noisy. Protest is going on do stay there because ill come back to you shortly. But 1st Boris Johnson once claimed that there was as much chance of finding ever specially on mas as of him becoming Prime Minister but many who know him also say that leading the u. K. Government has always been his goal in life heres a look at johnsons career and his sometimes bumpy rise to power. He no longer has to knock johnson now has the keys to number 10 he started his career in journalism but politics came calling in 2001 he won a seat in parliament for the conservative party in 2008 came a new challenge therefore officially declared Boris Johnson to be elected as the next of london. Mayor johnson oversaw the 2012 summer olympics in london the games were a success supporting him into the global limelight. Frightfulness abuse over a supposed compete take. But in a good way in a good way that will that do. Famous for his they centric behavior but also for his embarrassing gaffes like here when he knocked over a 10 year old boy during the rugby game in tokyo. But it was on the issue of brecks it that he was most controversial johnson defied his Prime Minister becoming a leading figure in the campaign for britain to leave the e. U. Will remain locked in the back of the car driven in an uncertain direction to a place we dont want to go and. Buy a driver who doesnt speak the very best of. Leaf one director of end but there was controversy over some of the claims made by johnson and his fellow brits it is. A made. 2016 for a new Prime Minister to raise and i made him her foreign secretary to many a surprise appointment. A personal statement mr bush strong. But johnson was the author of mays vision for brick sits and resigned in protest it is not too late to say. When may you couldnt get her bricks if you were 3 parliament she announced her resignation and johnson emerged as the front runner to take her job 3 years to miss deadlines we must leave. On october. The greatest challenge for Prime Minister always johnson but hes promised to make bricks it happen deal or no deal. So its somewhat chaotic path of 10 downing street and when leaders have already begun reacting to johnsons victory starting at home outgoing Prime Minister today is a may congratulate ing johnson here and offering to team up to deliver a bracks if that works for the whole u. K. And to keep Jeremy Corben out of government across the atlantic us president to trumpet backing johnson is full of confidence saying he will be great of course begs it will be a top of johnsons agenda ahead of the big sit Party Nigel Farage raj party on the pressure wondering if he has the courage to deliver. And Michel Barnier that use chief vets if they go see this thing is looking forward to working constructively to achieve an orderly begs it but no sign that you will renegotiate the Withdrawal Agreement as johnson has repeatedly promised for and youve been commissioned Vice President france to monza took a hard line on the prospects of renegotiating britains exit agreement have a listen. He took a long time deciding whether it was for or against regs it. And now is position is clear. I think the position of the u. Is also clear the United Kingdom reached agreement with the European Union and the European Union will stick to that agreement and no deal breaks it heartbreaks it would be a tragedy. For all sides the shot of boss is still with us from london were also joined now from brussels by our correspondent and the good vent of many reactions pouring in from brussels and other e. U. Leaders what can you tell us. Well besides the usual congratulations which are courtesy on such a day of cause you chief negotiator Michele Dunne you also said that he wants to help Boris Johnson to get the best draw agreement through parliament in Great Britain youre remember this failed 3 times for 2 reason may she tried it but it didnt do it and its not clear if it was johnson is really up to trying this again nobody knows in brussels actually what are his plans what does he want to negotiate about and he made it abundantly clear that he wont negotiate the destroyed agreement the only thing that can happen is that they rewrite the political declaration that comes with this agreement and this declare ration is about the future relationship between britain and the you once Great Britain has left the union but nothing more than that and if you talk to diplomats here privately they say we dont know is he a clown or really serious protection who can deliver and he he vill he engaged seriously in the matter and johnson is still a supporter is that he will deliver a brick said but still with 30 firsts do or die lets 1st take a listen to what he said about that in his victory speech just now i say to all the doctors. We are going to energize the country were going to get brits done although people thought it was going to take advantage of all dont you know that it will bring in a new spirit of can do and well once again going to believe in ourselves and what we could achieve unlike some slumbering joint were going to rise and paying off the guy ropes so start the negativity. So ben jonson has in the past can deceive rejected the deal with that which the e. U. And negotiated with his buddy says it isnt me when he gets a new deal a different deal as he seems so confident of day. But we dont know if you can do a new deal because theres no plan on the table then no demands from one where they go back behind the red lines to reason may put on which is leaving the ex in total market and leaving in the Customs Union if the resumption of once all that then he has more or less to stick to the distraught agreement that is already on the table and theres no time quite frankly to renegotiate all that only 100. 00 days left until it would kick in and it if he doesnt apply for a postponement then breaks it will happen automatically. And shall do so given all of this i mean does Boris Johnson despite or has been volatile have a plan for big sit. Well in his victory speech it didnt sound like do or die any more he said he wants to work with the European Union in a friendly way we know that he has a big picture he wants to go back and renegotiate that Withdrawal Agreement not the political declaration that ban mentioned because the Withdrawal Agreement parliament or some members of parliament have a problem with that and as ben said the European Union is not willing to renegotiate that so we dont know what Boris Johnson is going to do then and we dont also know if he is going to stick to his promise to leave the European Union on october 31st come what may of course that is why his supporters the tory Membership Base voted for him so most likely he will try to stick to it somehow and maybe risk a no deal but we just cant know for sure with what kind of attitude yet he will go to brussels if he is going there with that extreme position or if he is going there as a pragmatist who wants to solve this issue once and for all and shouted at him hes also said he will secure not the country in defeat jeremy irwin thats the main Opposition Labor Party leader does it sound like a snap election could be it on the corner. Well one way to have a snap election would be that Boris Johnson calls one and i dont see that as likely at the moment yes he needs a parliamentary majority and that is why an election would make sense but he finally has the keys to number 10 downing street he has as we know from friends and supporters been dreaming of this his whole life so why would he give that there are other ways to call a general election and if it came to that for example a vote of no confidence and we would see a showdown between as you mentioned Jeremy Corbyn the leader of the Opposition Labor Party and Boris Johnson very very different characters but 2 euro skeptics also. Has been very skeptic on europe and has changed his position towards remaining or leaving the e. U. Time and time again really dont know what they are getting when they have voting for him and so we could see possibly a pro european policy like the liberal democrats make some gains in an election like that and then to fund question for you is so far the 27 leaders have been very very united in over the issue off briggs it but given a new change of leader in britain and given a man like Boris Johnson will this day as united as they have in the past about not getting the big deal. So far theres no sign that this unity or get a correct assumption because the interests remain the same we got this who is actually in downing street number 10 to the you will stick to its plan and stick to the agreement thats my best bet dr been driven to in brussels and a shot of parts in london thank you both very much for your reporting. Canine cadets meet the dogs that are being trained to clear afghanistan of deadly use than mine. And finally. Chinas grad turnberry we introduce you to a chinese teenager who has big climate ambitions. Im melissa chan welcome to news asia its good to have you with us we start with pakistani Prime Minister in iran khans visit to the white house the main agenda was afghanistan and what pakistan can do to a celebrate peace talks the country was the talibans chief sponsor in the 1990 s. And continues to have influence over the group. It was the 1st meeting between khan and u. S. President donald trump and the 2 made clear they were intent on improving relations after a relatively rocky period a push to mend tense u. S. Pakistan relations in person after clashing on twitter pakistani Prime Minister imran khan has held his 1st one on one talks in washington with his us while online sparring partner u. S. President donald trump the afghan conflict responsible for straining those ties was a key focus of talks trump hopes card can help broker a peace deal between the taliban and the Afghan Government and pave the way to ending nearly 18 years of u. S. Military involvement in afghanistan. I have plans on afghanistan that if i wanted to win the war afghanistan would be wiped off the face of the earth it would be god it would be over in literally in 10 days and i dont want to do that i dont want to go that route so were working with pakistan and others to extricate ourselves nor do we want to be a policeman because basically were policeman right now and were not supposed to be policeman weve been there weve been there for 90 years in afghanistan khan who has called for mutually beneficial ties with the us since he won pakistans general election last year sounded optimistic. So there is only one solution. I feel that i think we will discuss this is the closest we have been to a peace deal. And we hope that. In the coming. We will be able to. Speak to the upon them to come to a settlement a political solution to this bridge building is a far cry from relations last year when trump attacked pakistan on twitter accusing the country of supporting islamist militants and cutting security aid now trump has held out the carrot of possibly restoring aid if this meeting yields results offering the prospect of better relations between the 2 nations. So their leaders spent a lot of time talking about afghanistan but there was another issue that came up a controversial one the age old dispute between pakistan and india over kashmir have a listen to what the 2 leaders said i feel that only. The most powerful state. Present drum and can bring the 2 countries together from what i want i can tell you we have tried our best we all overtures to india. To start dialogue resolve our differences through dialogue but unfortunately we havent as yet but im hoping that president bush was also i was with i was with Prime Minister modi 2 weeks ago and we talked about this subject and he actually said would you like to be a mediator or arbitrator. Where is it casual because this rigor for many many years i was surprised at how long im going to love having to you as i think theyd like to see a result that i think youd like to see the result that i can help i would love to be a mediator it shouldnt be i mean its impossible to believe 2 incredible countries that a very very smart with very smart leadership cant solve a problem like that but if you would want me to b. D. A. Or arbitrate i would be willing to and id like to bring in shams who heads up our asia desk in bonn shammal it sounds as if President Trump is toying with the idea of mediating between india and pakistan just how realistic an option is this. I dont know why you do mediate because from your conflict it was probably a gesture. To you that he would like to use an influence to dissolve the conflict i dont think it is an option in your does not considered an international dispute the only thing that it is an International Problem regarding kushner is militancy and i think india and the us are on the same page there. And so the comments from President Trump has really ruffled feathers in india. Yeah the. Opposition parties due to play out is a stance on this is the opposition parties are urging modi. We have to think about it india does not consider because for me to issue its it going to do. It gives a concession to pakistan when it says it is a bilateral issue that it can discuss it with pakistan but again with the same precondition that islamabad and support to islamist militants in the ready very interesting i want to circle back to afghanistan because it was such a big agenda item for the meeting between the 2 leaders just how much can Prime Minister khan. How much can he do in terms of resolving the peace talks. Imran khan has a Good Standing among the taliban throughout his political career he has dried to just defy their position so i think he can do something for the us here but the main player in this regard is the Pakistani Army and i think most important in the drum khan meeting was the Pakistani Army chief bodge was rather to ponder good bodger on his army are the ones that can deliver something to the us on afghanistan if they really wanted but the problem is the us has always accused them that they play are double game in afghanistan to support the militants and the same time they negotiate with the us and you have got to go and. Channel shams thank you thanks very much it is. Now one reminder of just how devastating years of conflict in afghanistan have been is the land mines and various types of unexploded ordinance that are littered across the country getting rid of them is a dangerous job workers at the Kabul Mine Detection Center use all types of tools and in our next report we meet their canine helpers. For fun for this pup is actually training for a life or death remission. Its one for around 200. 00 dogs both german shepherds and Belgian Malinois at kabuls mine detection center. Theyre destined to become a disciplined force stiffing out concealed explosives that routinely kill people in afghanistan. So dogs are protectors and a good friend for me and always one step ahead of me in dangerous places. Keenan cadets are here to learn how to detect bombs weapons and narcotics just by scent todays test landmine detection. It appears shes found one now the humans investigate it takes about 2 years of intense 2 tillage for both dog and handler to be real world ready. Its a loving relationship like the relationship with a friend or a child. Its the same thing with our dogs. You should love the dog and the dog should love you. You know they need to be in china because thats where all the growth is coming from but also thats where all the technology is coming from so. Oh back here in europe britain gets ready to swear in a new Prime Minister his name Boris Johnson an outspoken breaks it to you who campaigned for britain to leave the European Union with or without a deal if necessary quite an announcement considering that the e. Are released last week speaking on the day of its publication the man in charge of britains finances had this to say. The report published this morning shows that even in the most benign. There would be a very significant hit to the very significant reduction. In our national debt. So why do researchers appear to be so united in the belief that bracks is bad for the british economy. One big factor concerns trade with no clarity on how the countrys economic relationships will look postbreakfast companies are finding it hard to plan for the future this has led to a decline in investment. That in turn has hampered growth forcing the government to borrow more money in order to maintain public services. These signs of weakness says have led to falling demand for the british currency and a slight in the value of the pound. This makes imports more expensive meaning shoppers are likely to have to fork out more than they used to. Deal or no deal the latest report suggests leaving the e. U. Is unlikely to benefit the british economy but the clear warning is that departing in a chaotic fashion could put the wheels in motion for a severe downturn. This is deja vu news coming to you live from bahrain a new leader for Britains Conservative Party a Prime Minister in waiting and Boris Johnson pledges to take the u. K. Out of the European Union. Deliver brits. Unite the country and defeat. The number to. 30000 members overwhelmingly votes to place johnson at the head of their Party Setting him up to become the u. K. s next Prime Minister. A woman continue i meant that she. Boris johnson is a new leader of britains governing conservatives after comfortably winning opposed to the banish of Party Members Boris Johnson is elected as the leader of the conservatives if. Johnson won 65 percent of the vote in a head to head race against foreign minister jeremy hunt the victory puts him a step closer to becoming Prime Minister the current tone deaf to the office to resign man is expected to officially handed her resignation tomorrow paving the way for johnson to take over her job. In his acceptance speech johnson said that voters were looking to conservatives to strike the right balance in delivering bricks it heres what he said. This Pivotal Moment in our history we again have to reconcile 2 sets of instincts 2 noble sets of instincts between the deep desire for friendship and free trade and mutual support and security and defense between britain and our European Partners and the small tain use desire equally deep and heartfelt the democratic government in this country joining me now is our london correspondent show lot of pot shots of what has been the reaction of the result of the leadership contest in the conservative party. K. Are asking themselves how in a country of 60000000 people only 160000 those conservative members got to vote for him and finally decide who is going to be the next Prime Minister so want to all of the next steps before john simm takes over as Prime Minister. So we will hear a number of cabinet announcements at some point today and also tomorrow of course the main ministries there being foreign and defense who is going to be on that cabinet its a big question because he is probably going to rally some of those bricks a ts that are going to help him get the u. K. Out of the European Union in his cabin and together were going to see him move into number 10 downing street tomorrow so the reason may hold so final speech in front of downing street will then head over to the queen hand him in her official resignation and very quickly after Boris Johnson will join the queen and become officially the new Prime Minister he will then move into downing street and we can expect later on tomorrow of course calls to. Calls from World Leaders for the new Prime Minister amongst and im sure donald trump to man that have to have a Good Partnership Going Forward because the u. K. Needs a good tree a trade deal with the United States when they are leaving finally the European Union right in front of the British Parliament a bit annoyed. The protest is going on do stay there because ill come back to you shortly. But 1st lauras johnson once claimed that there was as much chance of finding Elvis Presley on mars as a fan becoming Prime Minister but many who know him also say that leading the u. Thankfulness that its over asbos complete take. But in a good way in a good way that will that be. Famous for his they centric behavior but also for his embarrassing gaffes like here when he knocked over a 10 year old boy during a rugby game in tokyo. Leaf one director random but there was controversy over some of the claims made by johnson and his fellow brits it is. May 2016 for new. Prime minister to raise a may made him her foreign secretary to many a surprise appointment. A personal statement as to Boris Johnson. But johnson was the author of mays vision for brick sit and resigned in protest it is not too late to say you brits. When may couldnt get her brakes if your through parliament she announced her resignation and johnson emerged as the front runner to take her job 3 years to missed deadlines we must leave. On october. Trial vats would now be the greatest challenge for Prime Minister always johnson but hes promised to make bricks it happen deal or no deal. So somewhat chaotic path to 10 downing street and while it isnt already begun reacting to johnsons victory starting at home outgoing Prime Minister to resume congratulating johnson here and offering to team up to deliver bricks if that works for the whole u. K. And to keep Jeremy Corbin out of government across the atlantic a us president on tram backing johnson is full of confidence saying he will be great of course briggs it will be at the top of johnsons agenda ahead of the briggs it Party Nigel Farage piling on the pressure wondering if he has the courage to deliver. And Michel Barnier the chief rex if they go see it it says hes looking forward to working constructively to achieve an orderly braggs it but no sign the e. U. Will really go see if that would draw agreement as johnson has repeatedly promised. European commission Vice President france timmermans took a hard line on the prospects of renegotiating britains exit agreement have a listen he took a long time deciding whether he was for or against regs it. Now is position is clear. I think the position of the you is also. You know its kingdom reached agreement with the European Union and the European Union will stick to that agreement the new view bracks and heartbreaks it would be a tragedy. For off the shot of boss is still with us from london were also joined now from brussels by our correspondent in the good band many reactions pouring in from brussels and other e. U. Leaders what can you tell us. Well besides the usual congratulations which are courtesy on such a day of cause and you negotiate a mission on a also said that he wants to help Boris Johnson to get the wrister all agreements through parliament in Great Britain you remember this failed 3 times for treason may she tried it but it didnt do it and its not clear if those johnson is really up to trying this again and nobody knows in brussels actually what are his plans what does he want to negotiate about and done he made it abundantly clear that he wont negotiate the destroy agreement the only thing that can happen is that they rewrite the political declaration that comes with this agreement and this declaration is about the future relationship between britain and the you once a Great Britain has left the union but nothing more than that and if you talk to diplomats here privately they say we dont know is he a clown or really serious protection who can deliver and he he vill he engage seriously in the matter until this thing is to support is that he will deliver a break said but still with 31st do or die lets 1st take a listen to what he said about that it is the 3 speeches now i say to all the doctors. We are going to energize the country were going to get brits it done although people thought it was going to take advantage of all dont you need that it will bring you spirit of can do and we are once again going to believe in ourselves and what we could achieve unlike some slumbering joint were going to rise and ping off the guy ropes so tight and negative. So ben jonson has in the past completely rejected the deal with the rich the e. U. And negotiated with his fed he says it is on me when he gets a new deal a different deal as he seems so confident of doing. But we dont know if you can do a new deal because theres no plan on the table that i know did months from now on where they go back behind the red lines to reason may put on which is leaving the ex in total market and leaving in the Customs Union if the resumption of once all that then he has more or less to stick to the distraught agreement that is already on the table and theres no time quite frankly to renegotiate all that only 100 days left until it breaks it would kick in and it if he doesnt apply for a postponement then breaks it will happen automatically. And shallots at a given all of this i mean does Boris Johnson despite or has been volatile have a plan for beggs it. Well in his victory speech it didnt sound like do or die any more he said he wants to work with the European Union in a friendly way we know that he has a big picture he wants to go back and renegotiate that Withdrawal Agreement not the political declaration that because the Withdrawal Agreement and some members of parliament have a problem with and as ben said the European Union is not willing to renegotiate that so we dont know what Boris Johnson is going to do then and we dont also know if he is going to stick to his promise to leave the European Union on october 31st come what may of course that is why his support to the tory Membership Base voted for him so most likely he will try to stick to it somehow and maybe risk no deal but we just cant know for sure with what kind of attitude yet he will go to brussels if he is going there with that extreme position or if he is going there as a pragmatist who wants to solve this issue once and for all and shot it at tulum hes also said he will secure not the country in defeat jimmy wouldnt thats the main Opposition Labor Party leader does it sound like a snap election could be it on the corner. Or one way to have a snap election would be that Boris Johnson calls one and i dont see that as likely at the moment yes he needs a parliamentary majority and that is why an election would make sense but he finally has the keys to number 10 downing street he has as we know from friends and supporters been dreaming of this his whole life so why would he give that there are other ways to call a general election and if it came to that for example a vote of no confidence and we would see a showdown between as you mentioned Jeremy Corbyn the leader of the Opposition Labor Party and Boris Johnson 2 very very different characters but 2 euro skeptics also. Has been very skeptic on europe and has changed his position. Remaining or leaving the e. U. Time and time again so voters really dont know what they are getting when they have voting for him and so we could see possibly a pro European Party like the liberal democrats make some gains in an election like that and then to fund question for you is so far the 27 does have been very very united in over the issue off briggs it but given a new change of leader in britain and given a man like Boris Johnson will this stay as united as they have in the past about not renegotiating the big c. Deal. So far theres no sign that this unity of get a correct assumption because the interests remain the same weve got is who is actually going down the street number 10 to the you will stick to its plan and to stick to the restored agreement thats my best bet. Right ventricle to in brussels and a shot of parts in london thank you both very much for your reporting. Now to some other news and let me bring you up to date with some other stories making news around the world south korean fighter jets find hundreds of warning shots shots after a Russian Military aircraft than a poll he and his party won in a tightly for snap election in april but they fell short of the number of votes needed to form a government. Doesnt. The socialist party has won the general election and with this result the future has won and the past has lost. A Coalition Partner would be needed was. The conservative Peoples Party liberals c o down us and far right votes were soon ruled out. The most obvious partner for a future government it appeared would include the anti austerity you need us party most but until this week the partys leader public lazy ass was locked in a power struggle with sanchez agreeing to give his Party Support only in return for a position of cabinet. And got sanchez refused citing differences over how to deal with catalonia has pushed for independence or that instead he offered a few ministerial positions to need us put in most of the good look at us but that look and. They say yes this is idiotic and the more we all know that democracy governs is the one who stands for election and obtains the support of the citizens. But just before investiture talks began this week italys yes backed down and in doing so he broke the deadlock paving the way for an agreement that lawmakers now have 2 opportunities to vote on a coalition if that fails the country will once again face elections in november.
