THE HANDMAID’S TALE (NEON)
As the fourth season unfurls, it’s hard not a feel a sense of deja vu about this adaptation of Margaret Atwood’s much loved 1985 dystopian tragedy. It feels like it needs an endpoint, especially since it has long since left the Canadian author’s ambiguous denouement behind.
Without that, the continuing perils of Offred/Ofjoseph/June (Elisabeth Moss) risk turning into
Prison Break,
The Fugitive or
The Walking Dead, simply introducing new characters each season for her to butt up against, rather than progressing towards an ultimate tragedy or triumph.
