Eighteen-thousand bed frames and mattresses will be used in the Olympics, and another 8,000 at the Paralympics starting next month, so the beds have been tested to withstand all shapes and sizes of athletes â from weightlifters to runners.
Speaking to AP, the general manager of the Athletes Village said the cardboard beds can withstand up to 200 kilograms (440 pounds), and are âstrongerâ than wooden beds.Â

In June, organizers did say they were planning to give away 150,000 condoms at the Games.
However, they also advised athletes they need to take the freebies home, adding, in no uncertain terms: âThe distribution of condoms is not for use at the athleteâs village.â
