administration. he did say, i think you just heard that in the interview, that dick cheney served both george h.w. bush and george w. bush well as secretary of defense and then as vice president. >> were you surprised, before i have to let you go, his candor talking about the struggles of his daughter and drug addiction? >> reporter: he was pretty candid in that. you know, being up here in new hampshire, this is an issue and polls reflect this. this is something that deeply concerns people here. and bush has not talked too much about it in a deeply personal way in the past. i'm not sure if that's because he's not been asked about it. it obviously was very much a public issue when he was governor of florida, because his daughter was jailed briefly. you heard him mention that. but for him to talk about how it was heartbreaking as a parent and particularly the idea that he blamed himself and that one of the things he talks to other parents about is how you can't go down that road, you can't blame yourself for this, there's no way to know how someone's addicted. i think it's pretty clear that that's definitely a place where he has an opportunity to connect
