get a firsthand look at the damage being caused by the massive oil spill that's gushing from a ruptured well. joining me now on the phone from one of the gulf coast states is is george schloegel, the mayor of gulfport, mississippi. mr. mayor, good morning to you. the big fear is how far this oil might spread. what does it look like in your area, sir? >> well, the weather conditions that we have at this present time could actually cause the spill to go further. we're hoping for a break in the weather. the bad weather is going up the central part of all the united states, and hopefully it will calm down a little bit so we can get back in to collecting the oil. >> yep. how confident are you, sir, that you are fully prepared to deal with this cleanup? i mean, do you need help from anywhere? >> we're getting an awful lot of help from the federal government and the coast guard in particular on the scene. we're also having a number of volunteers that are in the seafood industry and volunteers that are prepared to march along the beaches should the water
