technologies. >> what were some of the major events that we're going to be coming down the line? what were some of the things that happened over the years that nasa achieved with these shuttle launches? >> in 30 years, the shuttle has been a work horse. it's been our classroom in space teaching us how to do complex robotic and space walking operations to assemble the huge 1 million-pound space station with our partners in space. so that's been a big achievement. the shuttle had economic troubles and short coming, as well as safety problems over the years. it's time for it to move off the stage. the real question is what comes next? the president hasn't defined whether we'll do anything beyond the construction of the space station. the goals he set out are limited to getting astronauts to the space station and only four per year. >> tom, the story that got most of the headlines this past week with the budget cuts at nasa had to do with abandoning the program to try to go back up to the moon. what are your thoughts on that? was that the right move at this
