this is trump's issue. he uses the issue in a way that a lot of people in his own party wouldn't use it. they don't often speak up if they disagree. the other thing that is sort of amazing is these two issues, crime and illegal immigration are not actually issues that are at peak problems. the crime rate has been going. in '88, crime was a serious problem and democrats were vulnerable as controversial as that ad was. violent crime has been on a decades long decline. there was a dip up in some cities. two, illegal immigration is not the massive problem the way it has been in certain years. trump's ability to manufacture an issue and create a sense that people are coming to harm you and that nonwhite people are coming to harm you and playing up this invading force that is
