Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court, when the most impressive nominees for Public Office in a generation i am that official with it. Right now im missing at university of florida and unlikely to be on full scholarship. Im lucky im the Vice President of the student body and im lucky that im the first person in my family to attend college. [applause] im a regular College Student of the. Like to watch animate. I like to listen to hiphop. I love to spend time with my friends. I love the life i live in a grateful to have windows given me a hand and supported me on my journey to get to where i am here. But before i was a College Student, before i was as lucky as i was i was just a young boy from a poor housing project, about a 15 minute walk down that way. I was born and raised in orlando and i grew up right here in this neighborhood with a single mother and four siblings. Growing up in this neighborhood it wasnt always easy. Ive had too many friends who never graduated high school or the internet sticking with the wrong crowd of friends that may just one mistake and they sadly have been able to recover yet. Ive had to overcome a lot of adversity but thanks to the paramore kids his own i found some incredible mentors that help me out to live up to my full potential help me see more of the world i never thought i would be able to see. But the truth is, everyone deserves the same opportunities that ipad, and while we are way past the point of wondering when his change going to, and if it does come, when we see it in time . I know that it will, and a president again who has a plan to move this country forward and lift everyone up his joe biden. [applause] yall can see me. Im young. Im a part of generation z, what i think about a platform and i get the joe biden is running on i feel hopeful. I know im voting for it is the best opportunity to change our world. You care about Racial Justice i need you to get out and vote for joe biden. If you care about beating this pandemic i need you to go out and vote for joe biden. If you believe that healthcare is a right for everyone like joe does i need you to get to the nearest voting site and vote for joe biden. When you get out and vote please recognize that youre not just voting for yourself. When i vote i am voting for the kids in my neighborhood who just want a fair shot at life. Im voting to invest in our schools and unloading to bring good paying jobs into the neighborhoods around us. In this part of town. I am voting for faces ive never seen and names i will never hear or no. Orlando, i love this community. I love us. I believe in us if we can change the direction that this country is going on every issue that matters to us, that is the power of the vote. So with just a week to election day i need you to make a plan to vote early. Now, this isnt one of those assignments im going to turn in last minute. I know my plan to vote. Tomorrow when im back in gainesville ill be voting early, yes, an assignment done early for joe biden and the right Student Union early voting site. You Better Believe im bringing my friends with me, the whole squad, period. [cheers and applause] i dont know if i will ever live through an election as important as this one. So orlando i want you to listen carefully to our next speaker. This is a man whos inspired me to believe in myself and her dreams and then drink bigger than those dreams. Hes got a great spotify playlist i suggest you all check out, and he always had our ba. While i was too young to vote for him way back in the day, i am proud to be voting for his Vice President , orlando, please welcome the 44th president of the United States, barack obama. [cheers and applause] hello, orlando. [cheers and applause] all, this is a goodlooking crowd here. Thank you so much. Can anybody please give him a good foster a a great introduction . What an Outstanding Young man. Now, it is good to be back here in florida. I dont know if we have got any Tampa Bay Rays fans here in orlando. Big game tonight. Its do or die time. Now, the last time the rays were in the world series in 2008, florida sent me to the white house. [cheers and applause] the rays fell just a bit short back then, but here in florida, democrats felt a little bit short in 2016 also. Over the next couple of weeks, florida, get the chance to fix two mistakes. You got the chance to sit to make things right. You can bring a world series championship to the sunshine state, and you can send joe biden and, harris to the white house. [applause] weve got one week, orlando, one week. [speaking spanish] one week until the most important election of our lifetime. And you dont have to wait until next tuesday to cast her ballot. You have two to it follows your two way to look right at the number one, you can vote early in person right now. Number two, you can vote from home with a mailin ballot. Dont wait. Put it in the mail or drop it off at a dropbox location today. Dont take any chances. Just get it done. [cheers and applause] just just go to iwillvote. Com to find out where you can early vote in person or drop off your ballot. If youve already voted, how many of you already voted . Jew mac if you voted, then your job is to go help your friends and family make a plan to vote. Because this election requires every single one of us. And what we do this week will matter for decades to come. Now, i have sat in the oval office with both of the men who are running for president. And just in case you couldnt tell, they are very different people. I didnt think that donald trump would embrace my vision or my policies, but i get help for the countries say that he might show some interest in taking the job seriously. But he didnt. He hasnt shown any interest in doing the work or helping anybody but himself and his friends, or treating the presidency as anything more than a reality show. That can give him the attention that he craves, and he does crave attention. This week, with everything happening do you know what he brought up . He was fussing about the crowd size of the inauguration again saying his was bigger. Who is thinking about that right now . Nobody except him. But the rest of us have had to live with the consequences, more than 225,000 people in this country are dead. More than 100,000 Small Businesses have closed. Halfmillion jobs are gone in florida alone. Think about that. And what is his Closing Argument . That people are too focused on covid. He said this of one of his rallies. Covid covid covid, hes complaining. Hes jealous of covid media coverage. [laughing] it here been focused on covid from the beginning, cases with be reaching new record highs across the country this week. Thats right. If we are focused on covid now come the white house wouldnt be having its second outbreak in a in a month, the e house. Let me say that. I lived in the white house for a while. Its a controlled environment. You can take some preventive measures in the white house to avoid getting sick, except this guy cant seem to do it. Hes turned the white house into a hot zone. Some of the places he holds rallies have seen new spikes right after he leaves town, and over the weekend his chief of staff said, and according here, im not making this up, his chief of staff on a news program says we are not going to control the pandemic. He just said this. Yes, he did. And yes, we noticed youre not going to control the pandemic. Listen, winter is coming. They are waving the white flag of surrender. Florida, we cant afford four more years of this. Thats why weve got to send joe biden to the white house. [cheers and applause] because we cannot afford this kind of incompetence and disinterest. 12 years ago when i chose Vice President i didnt know joe all that well. We serve an incident together. I notice noticed by the way one of my great friends, ben nelson, bill nelson, i have seen bill and while so thats why plus he is wearing a mask. One of the great senators from florida, and joe and i served together with him. [applause] you know, i had a lot of friends in the senate, but joe and i wasnt the closest person. But he and i came from different places. We came from different generations, but i quickly came to admire joe as a man who learned early to treat everybody he meets with dignity and respect. And bill will testify to this. Joe is somebody who lives by the word his parents taught it. Nobody is better than you, joe, but you are better than nobody. He believes everybody counts for he believes everybody is important, and that empathy, that decency, that belief in other people, thats who joe is. And thats who he will be. I can tell you the presidency doesnt change who you are. It reveals who you are. And joe the time of the gentleman has expired the game has shown himself to be a man of principle and character, and is going to be a great president. [cheers and applause] for eight years joe was last when in the room whenever i faced a big decision. He made me a better president , and hes got the character and experience to make us a better country, and he and, harris will be in the fight not for themselves but for every single one of us. Listen, you have got a present right now, he wants all credit for any time he inherited. He wants you to for the pandemic he ignored. But you know what . The job doesnt work that way. You have to be responsible one owe 47. You have to Pay Attention 24 7. Tweeting at the tv doesnt fix things. Watching tv all day doesnt fix things. Making stuff up doesnt fix things. You have got to have a plane if you want to make people lives better to get to put in the work you want peoples lives better. And along with experience yet to get things done. Joe biden has concrete plans and hes got concrete policies. That will turn our vision of a better, fairer, stronger country into a reality. Look, heres the truth. The pandemic would have been challenging for any president , but this idea that somehow this white house has done anything but completely screwed this thing up is nonsense. [cheers and applause] [horns honking] had its first case of covid at the same time, the same week, as the United States. Do you know that their per capita death rate south korea is just 1. 3 of what ours is . Think about that statistic. I given the statistic a couple of times and people have really focus on it. The number of people in korea who have died of covid, per capita, is less than 1. 5 what our death rate is. Thats thousands and thousands of people if we have been as effective and responsible whose lives wouldve been saved in this country. Just across the border in canada, the death rate per capita is 39 what ours here in the United States. Where the the wealthiest and most powerful country on earth and we can assemble get a grip on this because our government has been doing its job. Last week [horns honking] and last week when trump was asked if we do anything differently, due to what he said, not much. Not much. Really . Not much . You cant think of anything that you might be doing differently, like maybe he shouldnt have gone on tv and suggested we might inject bleach to care covid . That says something that maybe should have said that . Not much . Think about how hard the Tourism Industry has been hit right here in orlando, right here in florida. You lost one spring training season already, and he cant think of doing anything differently . Joe takes this seriously. He knows the emotional toll on grandparents when they cant see and hugs her grandkids. [horns honking] hes not going to screw up testing. Hes not going to call scientists idiots. Hes not going to host super. Event at the white house and then take it on a tour all across the country. Joe will get this pandemic under control with a plan to make testing free and widely available. [cheers and applause] hes going to get a vaccine to every american, cost free. [horns honking] and is going to make sure our frontline heroes never have to ask other countries for the equipment that they need to keep themselves safe. [cheers and applause] [horns honking] his plan will guarantee paid sick leave for workers and parents affected by the pandemic. Hes going to make sure that Small Businesses that hold our communities together and employ millions of americans can reopen safely. And he understands that were not going to rebuild the economy and put people back to work until we get this pandemic under control. Its not that complicated. Donald trump likes the claim he built this economy, but i just want to remind you that america create 1. 5 million more jobs in the last three years of the Obamabiden Administration [cheers and applause] than in the first three years of the trumppence administration. Thats a fact. Look it up. [cheers and applause] [horns honking] and that was before trump could blame the pandemic. He in fact, inherited the longest streak of job growth in american history. Which is like Everything Else he inherited, he screwed it up. [horns honking] and economic damage inflicted by botching the Pandemic Response means he will be the first president since Herbert Hoover to actually lose jobs. First time since Herbert Hoover. Back in the 30s. Thats a long time, people. Thats almost 100 years ago. He loves to talk about black unemployment. Look how low black and a plummet. Know what . Unemployment was really high when i came in and we brought it low and it kept on going to low, and he wants to take credit for it. Says hes a past president for black folks since abe lincoln. Man, now including his soninlaw, soninlaw said black folks have to want to be successful. Thats the problem. Who are these folks . What history books do they read . Who do they talk to . Dont read, is that what is going on . Black unemployment hit almost 17 during the Great Recession ten years ago, and through a lot of hard work joe biden and i help get it down. And it kept on going down. Not because trump did anything. Then this year because they screwed up the Pandemic Response, sword back up to about 17 . Here in florida but it doesnt have to be that way, florida, if you you go out and vote. [cheers and applause] [horns honking] [chanting] [speaking spanish] yes, we can. The only people truly better off than they were four years ago on the billionaires pick up trumps tax cuts. In the meantime, he has not been able to manage extending relief to millions of families who cant pay the rent right now, cant put food on the table right now. Got no plan to reopen schools that need reopening while protecting teachers in the process. You know, i dont understand how it is that he cannot organize republicans in congress to do the right thing. And its not like its his money where asking to pay because he pay taxes. Barely pays income tax. [applause] [horns honking] we know he has a secret chinese bank account so he may be paying taxes to the chinese, but hes not paying taxes here. [horns honking] first year in a white has only paid 750 in federal income tax. 700 can you imagine that . I mean, teachers pay more than that. Social workers pay more than that tax. [shouting] soldiers folks in uniform pay more in taxes than that. Are you living large and youre not willing to do the right thing to make sure that we are able to pay for quality schools for our kids, that provide veteran benefits for those who earn them. Joe biden has a plan to create 10 million Good Clean Energy Jobs right here in america. Its part of his plan to protect florida from Climate Change and secure environmental justice, and hes going to pay for it by rolling back those tax cuts to billionaires. [cheers and applause] [horns honking] and the thing is joe doesnt just want to get back to where we were. He finally wants to make some long overdue changes so that our economy actually makes life a little easier for everyone, the waitress trying to raise a kid on her own, a student try and figure out how to pay for next semesters classes, the shift workers would but maybe being laid off, a cancer survivor who was worried that her preexisting condition might prevent her from being able to get coverage. And speaking of healthcare by the way, you may have noticed republicans love saint right before an election how theyre going to protect people with preexisting conditions. Have you noticed that . You know what . Joe and i actually protected them ten years ago with the Affordable Care act. [cheers and applause] [horns honking] and you know, those same republicans who say theyre going to protect them, somehow they have tried to repeal or undermine the Affordable Care act more than 60 times, and each time they to try to repeal it y say we have a great replacement. Its coming. Everybody is little young here but you guys remember popeye . Remember that guy who always need to parse borrow some monea hamburger . He said dont worry, im going to be paying you back sometime soon, thats like republicans with health care. They say its coming soon, will be paying you back with a great replacement plan but that two weeks has been ten years coming now for the last ten years every two weeks they say we will have a healthcare plan. Do you know where it is . Because i dont. The reason they dont have a plan is because a plan doesnt exist. They have never had one. They have instead attack the Affordable Care act at every turn driving up costs, driving up the uninsured. Now theyre trying to get the Supreme Court to take away your healthcare. Right now as quickly as they can in the middle of the pandemic with nothing but empty promises to take its place. Think about what that would do to families right here in florida. Florida has the highest enrollment under the Affordable Care act of any state in america. Last week trump flat out said he hopes the Supreme Court takes your Health Insurance away. Said it out loud. Dont boo, vote. And last night he installed the Supreme Court justice who he hopes will help him do it. Dont boo, vote. Florida, this is serious. And joe and kamala will protect your health care. They will expand medicare, they will make insurance more affordable for everybody. [applause] [horns honking] because joe knows that a president s first job is to keep us safe from all threats, foreign, domestic and microscopic. When the daily intelligence briefing flashed warning lights about a virus, the president cant ignore it, and it be too lazy to read the briefing. When russia puts bounty on heads of our soldiers in afghanistan, the commanderinchief can be mia, missing in action. Joe biden would never calls the men and women of our military suckers or losers, because they are willing to sacrifice their lives on behalf of of the american people. [cheers and applause] [horns honking] joe biden understands those troops are somebodys kid, somebodys dad, somebodys mom, somebodys husband, somebodys wife. Somebodys father, mother. And joe biden understands that there is glory and goodness in being willing to sacrifice on behalf of others come something that apparently this Administration Just doesnt comprehend. Our current president , he whines that 60 minutes is too tough. Do you think is going to stand up to dictators . He thinks leslie stahl is a bully. Just yesterday, just yesterday he said that putin, of russia, she of china and kim jongun of north korea on him to win. We know. We know because youve been giving them whatever they want for the last four years. Of course they want you to win. Thats not a good thing. You shouldnt brag about the fact that some of our greatest adversaries think it would be better off with you in office. Of course they do. What does that say about you . Think about that. Why are you bragging about that . , on. And that doesnt make any sense. Joe biden with coddle dictators. He will promote human rights around the world, including in cuba. Joe will restore our battered standing around the world because he knows our true strength comes from setting an example that the world wants to follow. A nation that stands for democracy, not dictators. A nation that can aspire and mobilize others to overcome threats like Climate Change and terrorism and poverty and disease. And heres one other thing. Joe and, when theyre in office there not going to you will not have to think about them every single day joe and kamala. Do not have to worry about what crazy things theyre going to say, what theyre going to tweet. They are just going to be too busy doing the work. [cheers and applause] [horns honking] it just wont be so exhausting. You will be able to go about your lives knowing that the president will not retweet conspiracy theories about or suggest, i mean, listen. Our president of the United States retreated a post that claim the navy seals didnt actually kill bin laden. Think about that. We act like, well, okay. Its not okay. We are not going of the president and joe biden is in office that goes out of his way to insult people just because they dont support him. He will be a president for all people, including people who didnt vote for him as he knows thats the job of being president. [cheers and applause] [horns honking] i mean, we have gotten so numb to what is bizarre behavior. We have a president right now who whines multiple times a day. This is not my claim. Even fox news sometimes says he didnt mean it here its not normal behavior. We wouldnt tolerate from a coworker. We wouldnt tolerate it from a football coach. We wouldnt tolerate it from a high school principal. I mean, we might have to put up with it if it was a family member, but we talk about him afterwards. [laughing] even florida man wouldnt be doing some of this stuff. Why would we accept this and president of United States . And you know what . I mean, sometimes its almost too easy to make fun of it, but its serious. There are consequences to his actions. If you is on Jerry Springer something you would say, well but, this is a most powerful office on earth. And when people see the president doing things like that, it emboldens other people to be mean and cruel and divisive and racist. And it phrased the fabric of our lives. It affects the way our children see things. When we tell our children to tell the truth and then we have the person dies office of the land he doesnt seem capable of doing so, that undermines our society. It affects the way our families get along and it affects the way for the world looks at america. And it distracts from the truly destructive actions that his cronies are doing all across the government as we speak, actions that affect your lives. Youve got the Environmental Protection agency that is supposed to protect our air and water. It is one my Energy Lobbyist that gives polluters free reign to dump unlimited poison indoor air and into our water. Its not right, it aint right. The labor department, thats supposed to protect workers. Its run a corporate lobbyist who has declared war on workers, trying to get protections to keep essential folks safe during a pandemic, make it easier for big corporations to steal their wages. The interior department that is supposed to protect our public lands, our wilderness, the everglades, it is run by an oil lobbyist who is just fine was telling them to the highest bidder. We have an Education Department run by a billionaire who has guided rules designed to protect students guided from getting ripped off from it forprofit colleges. And students looking for loan belief in the middle of an economic collapse. You have got the person who runs medicaid trying not to get more people onto medicaid so theyve got better healthcare but they kicked more people off of medicaid. Come on, it aint right. So what are you going to do about it . You have to vote. You have got to vote. [horns honking] when joe and kamala are in charge there not going to rent themselves with hacks and lobbyist. Theyre going to send themselves with qualified Public Servants who actually are serious about doing their job. Who are looking out for you, for your job, your family, your health, your community, your planet. And that more than anything is what separates them to actually care about you actually care about every american, and they are going to be hiding on your behalf every single day. They are not going to get everything right every time. Theyre not going to solve every problem right away, that theyre going to be working on every single day to see how can i make sure this little brandnew baby right here is inheriting a better world . [cheers and applause] thats what they care about. [horns honking] i will say i miss kissing babies during the pandemic. I cant do it, but but i look t that little bundle right there. Brandnew. Thats a new baby smell. Congratulations. But joe and kamala care deeply about people and they care about our democracy. They believe that in a democracy the right to vote is sacred. We shouldnt be making people wait in line for hours. We should be make them easier for everybody to vote, not harder. [cheers and applause] [horns honking] they believe that no one, especially the president , is above the law. They understand the process this country was founded on protesting against injustice and we dont threaten to throw our political opponents in jail just because we disagree with them. Thats what happens with dictatorship. It doesnt happen in the United States of america. [cheers and applause] [horns honking] gelling, understand that our ability to Work Together to solve the problems like this pandemic depends on just more than this photo op. It depends on a fine facts and logic and science, and not making things up, not flooding the internet with misinformatio misinformation. He should not be republican or democratic values. We grew up learning from our parents and our grandparents. They are not white or black or hispanic or asian or native American Values. We are supposed the American Values and we have to reclaim them right now. How are the going to do that . By voting. We have got to turn out like never before, orlando. We have to leave no doubt. We cant be complacent. We were complacent last time. Folks got a little lazy. Folks took things for granted and look what happened. Not this time. Not in this election. I understand theres some americans who get frustrated by government. They feel like it doesnt make much of a difference. My vote wont make a difference. Listen, the government is not perfect. Its not going to solve every problem, but but a good governt can make things better. Things were better when i left office than when i started. They were not perfect but they were better. [cheers and applause] [horns honking] as president a president should make things worst. Present by himself cant solve every challenge facing our economy, but if we elect a president who cares and we elect a house and a senate and the state House State Senate have focused on working people and giving you the help you need, it can make a difference. [applause] [horns honking] a president by himself cant eliminate all racial bias in our criminal justice system, but if we elect district attorneys and states attorneys and sheriffs and Police Chiefs focused on equality and justice, it can make things better. And thats what voting is about. Not making things perfect but making them better. Its about putting us on track so that a generation from now we can look back and say hey, things started getting better. Its about using the power we have and pulling it together. To make sure that we have government that is more concerned, more responsive, more focused on you. And you know what . What i hear people say i voted last time, things didnt change as much as i thought. Listen, we have never come close to seeing what it would be like if everybody voted. In 2008, that was the highest voting rate in modern president ial history. We only got to 61 . That means 39 of the folks didnt vote who were eligible to vote. What wouldve happened if suddenly we started getting 70 voting rates . [applause] [horns honking] what would happen if we got 60, 70 of of the people voted instead of 55 of people voting . The country would be transformed, imagine imagine january 20 and we swear and the president and the Vice President who have plan to deal with this pandemic, who believe in science, who has a place to protect this planet for our children, who care about working americans, who have plan to help you start getting ahead, who believe in racially quality, who are willing to do the work to bring us closer to the ideals that no matter what you look like, where you come from, you love, how much money youve got, you can make it here in america. You will be treated with respect and dignity and justice here in america. [cheers and applause] [horns honking] imagine a president when automaker gets hit by a hurricane doesnt respond just by throwing paper towels. But those are americans and we have to make sure we get them to help they need as quickly as possible if thats what you should expect from a president , and if youre not getting that come in yet to go out and vote to make it happen. [cheers and applause] [horns honking] all of that is possible, all of that is within our reach. For all the times these past four years when we have seen our worst impulses revealed, the good news is we have also seen our best impulses revealed. Weve seen folks at every age and background hack city centers and town squares so families wouldnt be separated. I have got a friend, hosea and dress, great restauranteur, took it upon himself and went down to puerto rico after the hurricane, organized thousands of meals just so because he was seen that the response wasnt quick enough. Just did on his own. That is america. We saw people out on the streets saying we will not have our classrooms shot at anymore. We have seen people activate to make sure our kids dont grow up on an uninhabitable planet. Weve seen Health Care Workers comp so many of them all across the country, risk their lives every single day just to say somebody elses loved one. We have seen people contribute and volunteer to neighbors that have been hit hard. Weve seen americans of all races joining together to declare in the face of injustice and brutality at the hands of the state that black lives matter. No more but no less come so that no child in this country should feel the continual state of racism. [cheers and applause] [horns honking] thats true in orlando. Its true in florida. Its true all across this country. America is a good and decent place, but we have just been much noise and nonsense and distortion, and sometimes its hard for us to remember. But orlando, im asking you to remember what this country can become what should become what it must be. Im asking you to believe in joes ability to lead this country out of these dark times, to help us build it back up. Dont abandon those who are hurting right now. We cant abandon the kids are not getting the education they need right now. We cant abandon all that young people were out on the streets. We have two channels of activism into action. We cant just scream for a better future. Weve got to fight for a better future. [cheers and applause] we have to outhustled the other side. Weve got to vote like never before and leave no doubt [horns honking] so make a plan. Vote as early as you can. Grab your friends and your families, get them to vote all the way up and down the ticket. And if we for all our efforts into this final week, if we felt like never before, and we will elect joe biden president of United States. We will elect Kamala Harris Vice President of the United States. We will establish once again what this country stands for, what our values are, and who we are as a people. Lets get to work, florida. Lets bring it home. [cheers and applause] i love you, orlando. I love you, florida. [cheers and applause] halt if you are fired up. [cheers and applause] [horns honking] honk if you are ready to go. Are you fired up . [cheers and applause] [horns honking] are you ready to go . [horns honking] i am fired up. Lets go do this thing. Lets bring it home. [cheers and applause] thank you [horns honking] we have more live light programming coming your way later today with healthcare officials and lawmakers discuss the covid19 federal response and its impact on the pharmaceutical supply chain.
