Eastern and pacific. On book tv. On cspan2. All previous afterwards are available as podcasts and too much on five booktv. Org. Book tv recently visited capitol hill, members of congress about their reading list. Marsha blackburn, what is on your reading list . Ive got a great meeting first. Talking to strangers, one of my favorite authors, malcolm. I was so jealous last week, my husband and son attended a breakfast where he was speaking. Of course, ive Read Everything he has written and i followed his columns for here. Along with blake and outliers, they have now downloaded on my kindle, talking to strangers. Just a little bit into it, not that far but totally intrigued, ive also made certain that i have my 2020 farmers almanac downloaded. Things that you cant beat, you cant be good reading when it comes to the farmers almanac. I love it. I keep track of it, i am a gardener. I love being outdoors so you got to have the farmers almanac. What information can you get from back . Weather, a lot of weather. If the forms are going to be thick and while the or if youre going to have a hard winter, the acorns falling off the trees and you never know. Youre going to find all sorts of things in the farmers almanac. Good tips. Before peek onto other books, hes so counterintuitive and a lot of his approach. As i interest you . I find it incredibly interesting. Because what he does, he doesnt take anything at face value of what you see on the surface. Probably outliers is one of my favorite books that he wrote because what he does is say here is the premise and this is why you should be curious about this premise and this is how it becomes different than you may have thought it was going to be. Talking to strangers, as i said, im just a little bit into that but for someone who likes to communicate and considers communication to be final, i think talking to strangers is something that is very instructive there. It changes mind, shelley sade has written, i think this is like a third book. This is another of those communication books and you look at what comes from the marketing side of things, going back to one of my first jobs and selling, figuring out what motivates people, words to use, how do you use language . Her latest book is one that ive just downloaded. Also, i thought it would be a good companion read. I read talking to strangers. Ive got those that im going to be working through. I heard the word downloaded. Yes. I love the fact that i can put it on my kindle. Especially if theres a hard copy book. Then i put on my kindle and i can read it there. I have to carry the book around with me. There was one book i wanted to hold in my hands, when i credit because i wanted you make notes and it and that is the fabulous book its all about womens suffrage. Of course that started in new york, it finished in nashville. 1920. Our state had a wonderful presence. The passage of the 19th amendment, Susan B Anthony amendment and 72 year fight. The way elaine lays out what happened in nashville and she does it so beautifully and having been in the state senate and the capital and knowing that hotel that is across from the capital and i could just see and envision this. To me, it was a great book to read and ive read it twice because its so easy to put yourself in that moment. Is it still a hotel . Oh yeah, its gorgeous. When you walk into the lobby, you see the suffragists there . Yes. Absolutely. It is terrific. We talked to you before about books and often history comes up. History books. On your list one thing im doing this year is, as many people read the bible through, i have the King James Version and the niv, a friend recommended using a contemporary version and reading it there. It reads like a novel. Which is just fascinating. It reads more like a novel when you read a contemporary version. So im doing that, i will finish it at the end of the year. Its something i do on a daily basis. Ive enjoyed that. Im creating cookbooks, i have a variety of those that ive gone through and continue to read through those. I find it is a tremendous way to learn about history, is community. So yes, cookbooks are always on my list. Do you have recommendations over here in the senate . I know in the house when you were a member, used of checkbooks with other members. Have you found that get care . I have not found that over here cap but i still get recommendations from friends. They know im fallacious reader in my voice that something that im working on. One of the things i enjoy with being able to download is i can download a sample. If somebody says you ought to read this, and you can download a sample and get a little taste of it and figure out if its something that you want to keep or put on your kindle and read and then you can decide if its something you want a hard copy of. A lot of polemical is coming out from a contemporary focus on the Trump Administration do those or any administration that happens to be in power, do they attract your attention . Im living it every day. I am working through Public Policy every single day. I dont need them to tell me what i think. [laughter] to see what other members of congress are reading, visit booktv. Org.
