My name is Christian Pinkston and we want to welcome you to our new home but we are so honored and they fall you are here but we are not here for us. All of you probably know ryan kill made from his job, hosting box and friends. [applause] it is the most popular morning cable news show on the planet for 213 months and two weeks and four days, is that right, brian . You might also know brian from his nationally syndicated radio show which the ryan kill me to show which is almost 150 radio stations across the country and he was named one of the ten most important talk radio host in america in between get this everybody between tv and radio ryan is on the airway six hours a day, five days a week. And yet he has found the time to write a string of New York Times bestselling books. George washington secret six, Thomas Jefferson and the pirates, Andrew Jackson and the miracle of new orleans all told his books have reached over 2. 5 million readers around the world which is fairly impressive that mac these are history books. Its impressive. His latest book which we are salivating tonight is sam houston the alamo avengers. It is yet another bestseller they debuted last week as number three on the New York Times bestseller list. Unfortunately, the list comes out and hes not at three anymore but at two. Congratulations. Thats awesome. If you have not read it you are in for a treat and i have good news for you, you are taking home a signed copy of a new book and we are so honored to have him tonight. He will speak to us for a couple minutes and he told me they might take a few questions if you are kind to him. Welcome back. Thank you for being here. [applause] thank you for coming out tonight. You all seem very nice, welldressed and all wearing basically the same type of glue which is somewhat scary. Dylan martinez has done such an incredible job leading the way with the publicity and you could have the best book and the best message in the best story and you got to tell people its out there. There are so many great books out there. You got to have the right plan to launch and so far this is my sixth book overall, my fourth and ive never had things hit on all gears like this for this long. Weve been out for about three weeks and were just do the best we can to get the word out. Christian, thank you for hosting this for me. I was reluctant to do it because coming to washington in the middle of the week to come here and he says it will be worth it, you come out, to see these offices and professionalism and know that your drinking and eating for freedom makes me feel better. [laughter] lets be honest, we dont want you eating tv its jacked up. Its good to see things, and washington, not much happening. Its also great to have a history book out when you have an historic and peas with trial happening where every single minute something more compelling. If you go to the restroom for a second you will have four major stories so i dont. I will rush through this speech if you know what im saying. My goal has always been to tell her get away from politics with this. Theres enough trauma, bush, clinton, obama books out there and nothing i could bring new to this city that they dont know. I goal is to tell an american story and to tell it in a way that dave mcauliffe, Douglas Brinkley et cetera do this, brands of purely i read these books and no that i cant do that. What i wanted to do is get major figures in history that you know who is on the cover but when you open it up you understand more about the people that made them great because like many people in this room who do great things on a daily basis without claim to fame. America is made up of average people doing extraordinary things without getting a pat on the back. These people were known in the times but not in our time. If you open up George Washington secret six and when you open it in the great and when you think of the other men and you think about Abraham Woodall who is a farmer and when you open up Thomas Jefferson pirates you say i love jefferson and the guys genius. True, but you know the other men in my goal is this that when you leave here today at the watercooler or sports bar hanging out at the tailgate when people go and challenge you and say americas history, everyone is proud of their history and everyone is proud of their past and thats fine but we are an exceptional nation and i want to give you more proof and more illustrations to go to bat with and go sit there and when i was born in america i hit the lotto and update we have a chance to go play in the super bowl and end up in we are all on a chance to be successful. We want the same guaranteed and we dont want the outcome decided we dont want baby box, we dont want guaranteed a thousand dollars. We just want to build the landscape cloud the best way we can have an equal chance of being successful. I thought i could tell a series of those stories that may be you can take that away. What we do this we try to find another story after Andrew Jackson and the miracle of new orleans and i keep going back to texas. Anyone here from texas . You are so proud of your past and i did not know there was such a blend between Texas History in American History. For nine years they had their own thing going. Lone star state. That was fine. I did not look at in the 1800s texas was wide open. It was up to moses austin to cut the deal. He was able to fulfill the deal but Steven F Austin was but he brings 300 American Families in america come to the new world people wanted a new shot after shot. All they wanted was a chance to be successful and see what texas had to offer so they got a gun, a rake and a plow and they went ahead and made a living. What they were able to do and grind out and how they were able to stand up and fight for freedom and liberty id tell the story and if i could introduce you to sam houston we know about the president and this guy should have been present. Hes not a perfect person but was mentioned by Andrew Jackson and i was able to do something ive always wanted to do because i love the rocky movies because i believe there based on a true story. [laughter] how great it is it in the rocky movies when you open up and they flashed back to the previous rocky movie. Its great. Now i remember why im in this theater. I was able to open up with Andrew Jackson miracle of new orleans and we tell the story of what happened in that battle and the battle they had to be fought at while the british if they had one would keep new orleans and turn over and stop us from going past the mississippi. While we open up with the battle of horseshoe man because sam houston is fighting under this Andrew Jackson. Im able to start there and in 1814 sam houston wants to talk about courage. He felt he was impervious. He got shot three times and should have died. He learned that curt had to be calculated. He goes to washington and pre close to here according to the map and i have a ways apps im able to see just about everything, burned to the ground but what did you learn . His country as fragile and courage had to be calculated. How does it pay off . In 1835, 1836 he took some of the toughest men in america at the time to do something they dont want to do and that is one way because except for one battle and we got twin and right now were not prepared and as they were running away hes training him, gathering him and getting more and shaping the battlefield until he finally sets up at the end in the battle of [inaudible] so i thought if he could tell the story and a army with another story about this great country even though we seem as we pull each other part if i tell you how bad it was and how close we came to total destruction will not overreact about Rudy Giuliani and ukraine. [laughter] why dont we take a short timeout and the audiovisual portion not only do get free food but you get a movie, four minutes. Lets watch sam houston, the alamo avengers and this is as aired on fox news. 1776 america declares its independence and the United States was born. Almost six decades later another daunting fight for freedom loving independents fighting americans but the odds of success just as long. The stake just as high. This time it was mexico in the battle for texas. In 1830 texas was happy to be an independent state of mexico but that all changed when general Antonio Lopez santa ana took power but he immediately shelved liberty which was these guys were ready to fight. Their idea was to control san antonio and that whole inter part of texas. Once you started having colonel travis and james buie there at the alamo joining the volunteers santa ana thought it was an easy one. To the surprise of many of the texas Army Although outnumbered and pretty much unorganized would take over the alamo mission. The sad news was coming. General santa anna wanted to stop all the revolution for it could take root. Sam houston sent jim buoy in with orders to evacuate. He would decide to stay along with the colonel to lead. Also factor in will most famous men in america at the time, Davy Crockett was under his command. With travis and crockett they decided we will dig in our heels and its freedom or death. Courage is something within every person but most people are not courageous alone. You get courage from the people you are around. The if the people around you show you optimism its contagious. For 13 days the men fought furiously inflicting hundreds psalms eight over 1000 casualties in santa annas army. March 6 walls breached and every texan killed from louis to travis to crockett who was the first two and tim and tate sam houston sources but it didnt. 1836 weeks after the alamo massacre the battle flashes here to this fort behind me were formative men led by west point dropout knew they were about to be engaged. Its an engagement that sam houston never wanted to see happen but once again his orders were not heeded. Hes hesitated and caught in the middle of an open field and after brutal fighting both sides cut a deal. Disarm and in exchange they would be allowed to live. Bannon trusted the mexican general to hold his word but he didnt. The men were marched out and executed. Sam houston knew he had to give one of the toughest most unpopular orders in his career. Take the men he had left and retreat. Known today as the runaway scrape. This was now a war of attrition. Houston wanted to preserve himself in texas and also going over formations and strategies and sam houston and his texas army said if you go through that you can go to the markham border like to get more troops and rest my guys or make this decision and follow that go to san jacinto where a new santa ana and his mexican army would be waiting. After much deliberation sam houston decided to finally fig fight. The first and only time the santa anna and sam houston will square off and who better to take me through this battle then is steven moore, author of 18 minutes. Why 18 minutes . That the time it took the mexican army but 18 minutes with time it took to achieve total victory. Group they got annihilated at the alamo got massacred at goliad, takes 18 minutes to defeat santa anna right here . They achieved the ultimate surprise. Its most lopsided american victory in history. Sam houston led the texas fight for freedom and his armies courage, resilience ultimate victory would change a country and soon change the world. Something is clear but we have to get our reenactors in better shape. [laughter] these were lean muscular like john wayne characters but i give them credit for showing up that day. Its fantastic. I know you had spend lodging but then santa ana would be captured and instead of getting revenge and hanging from the highest tree they decide to tell santa ana sign over texas and call off your reinforcements. Courage has got to be calculated. Revenge has to be calculated and land up holding up to ana and bring them to Andrew Jackson in washington and jackson would ultimately oversee the fact he went back to mexico and would haunt us for 20 more years but that was the story. That is sam houston and the alamo avengers and its off to a pretty good start because i believe its the texas victory the changed American History because we move south and west because of that. Also, understand this, jefferson and jackson thoroughly believed that texas came in the Louisiana Purchase and he cannot believe that president monroe and sector of state John Quincy Adams signed it over in exchange for florida. We dont really talk about that but back then that was when the hottest issues in the country and i just thought by going back and reclaiming it and understanding it and explaining it people would start being tapping into their patriotism again prayed when i did George Washington secret six a study that for 20 years and hope people will be interested in Thomas Jefferson jubilee pirates are first war and terror i know people can relate to it and Andrew Jackson, the 13 yearold who loses his entire family and raised by his country i thought people could relate to it but by this time the book comes out i feel like im on a mini mission to push back on those who dont understand how great this country is. I have no problem saying that. We are not perfect but i think what is great about us is we are trying to be and the reason we argue and fight is because we do something our parents told us not to do and we argue in front of strangers but when its all said and done its because we have the same goal but we just have different ways of getting there to make the country a better place. I would like to also take questions from you guys if you have any and also tell you that i do have to be up at 2 30 to be on the air tomorrow and it will be fun in new york and i encourage you if you are around orlando, jacksonville, mclean, virginia and a few more stops we will go for the next few months and see if we could tackle donald trump junior. Hes got a head start and a famous dad who is on twitter n now. [laughter] intends to push the book a little bit. Hes a great guy and its a good book. With dad does anyone have any questions . Yes. [inaudible] okay. Let me explain something to you. Im a mets fan and its a very tough and not a yankee hater. You are a national guy, right . [inaudible] obviously the national is fantastic and on a serious note i do to do sports radio and what happened in 2017 with the yankees up three games to two and losing four games to three and that was the revelation about what the astros were doing in 2013 it will be an interesting time but i dont how baseball will get on top of this because if im the dodgers im not too happy and if im the yankees im not too happy so they beat them again. Baseball cant get out of their own way it seems. Its the first. Thank you. What is next . I dont know. Im wide open. I have to find something in the next four or five weeks to do one more book and then i will retire and have a Retirement Party right here. [laughter] im trying to find a slice of history not that you know the headline but know the detail so look for something on the inside but a special thanks to fox. They let me to an hour special on the alamo so while maybe other channels are doing something on impeachment inside will herds retirement i was able to go sam houston and the alamo avengers and i was pretty cool. Also to point out vaccination let me do the series called what makes America Great and i got a chance to travel the country and do separate documentaries over the last 18 months on this country and all the things you probably dont know or have forgotten and that has been a great experience. [inaudible] well, i mean, im sort of a sports guy because that was the cooks wait to get on the air and it probably was but when i want to take a break since i dont often have very few friends i would open up a history book and thats what i was passionate for and to be honest i never thought i would be writing one ever and when bill oreilly started writing his grade books and he encouraged me were from the same neighborhood him and hassett are from long island when i told him i had this spy story ive been studying for 20 years and he gave him detail he said to me, youve got to write that instead of saying i do history of fox but you got right back. I hand him chapters and he handed back to me and when the book was done i wanted to do what they always have me do is get out on high so if youre doing stand up and you have a close but you get an inordinate lower left before the close leave. [laughter] you will never match it. I said for 20 years little did they know i have a backup and it was so successful they said what are you interested in and were kneedeep in bin laden and the war and terror in afghanistan and iraq and anytime someone writes with perspective on why we are in this war on terror jefferson dealt with that first. Find out how jefferson dealt with it. Thats what led me to the jefferson library, university of virginia where they were able to give me some of the regional documents and i said let me tell that and then im doing jackson is standing in pinkston talking about the alamo so im an accidental historical author who is passionate about it. [inaudible] heres what it is. I know they were shooting each other back then but i get it. There were duels and just as angry but there was a sense of service, more of a sense of service. Its more about the sense of service in the country and sam houston is the best example. We just decided to do this in the paperback. Sam houston told texas hes governor and were not joining the confederacy are going to civil war civil war but when he got outmoded he quit. Lincoln reached out and set all provide troops and money if you want to take texas back because we dont want texas in the confederacy because jackson, even though there south in houston is south, theyre all about keeping the country together first. Jackson was outraged the northern states did not want to join the war of 1812 because hes bought the Country First and outraged that South Carolina wanted to secede because its always about the Country First read our politicians today have to say to them selves with water for the country not the party and i have a belief that if you listen to the radio show especially compromise will be in soon. You will need cover. I get it. If trump wins or someone on the democratic side that is somewhat moderate winds that they will sit down and do immigration and they will do healthcare because what do we know . We know that no matter how brilliant you think your Healthcare Plan is or immigration plan is as soon as the other party gets power they tear it up and then they will tear up yours and you terror of theirs and nothing will get done. We are going to to do this thing called compromise and it will become en vogue soon, do you think im right . You dont. [laughter] yes. [inaudible] i will tell you this. I wanted to go beyond the alamo and my second feature of fox nation aston i said how do i do this to a broader audience with the other 49 states and when i got there i told it that what led to it what happened after there may be a market for it but i love the fact that guys like phil collins the number one alamo fan in the world from genesis and a guy like Stanley Mcchrystal joined me at the alamo and join me in the special and says military colleges still study it that 180 guys could hold off 3000 plus for 13 days. They just got a couple hundred more they might even have one. If jim buie, the myth that is him or the legend that he is if he did not have Something Like tuberculosis or scurvy or whatever he was suffering from ida feeling he would still be alive. That is how they wrote about this guy but he would have found a way. [inaudible] he kicked me in the fight really hard. He did. Sean has a thing where if you go to his house and what you do is make a right at the helipad so you go to his house and he brings you down there and you sparred with him a little bit but as you know what i thank you are alluding to is the first for ufcs and i did not fight in them but called them and i watched before they were weight classes and divisions and where if you want to go back to the locker room and one in the locker room for the championsh championship. To see a sumo guy were formed a 50 pounds or maybe 600 pounds go against a 180pound guy, cruddy guy in the netherlands and knocked out his two teeth and land on jim browns nose it was an interesting experience. I was one of the first and went to the octagon when they design that appeared back then they want me to do interviews and say do you mind telling the press someone can die tonight and i said no, im not saying that. Someone could have died that night. It was crazy. No one ever predicted it would be this successful but sean is a killer bread if you start with sean get a hotel room because he will fight you all night. [inaudible] okay. Overall . I dont want to put first off, allison is my producer and is partnered with twins right now and we have been to the most interesting tour ever which is typical fox from outside major cities where we went to omaha and lincoln in dayton and we went to Wichita Falls texas in waco texas and in san antonio, am i forgetting anything . Oh, south bend, indiana. What im finding is this. When you go to texas people i cant believe are related darkly to sam houston with the paperwork related to someone who bought fought the battle paid when you go to orlando or washington you will say here i moved here a year ago and gave her. Dot but when you go to the cities are mentioned they say ive been here 30 years, 40 years, 50 years and my family fought in the revolution and there is such pride in these areas and to be honest its not aruba. This is rough terrain pretty go to nebraska and say i dont even see a mountain so you see flat but find these towns have with each other and their history and that is what im taking weight with people come up to me and say they are related to the story and they thank you for keeping their families story alive thats what i walk away with.
