These talking points that we have sitting in that seat severaseveral hours ago and the terrible results on labor which is clearly on to brexit and i suggest the reason is they can then argue we can continue with corbin. But because it was brexit that was so bad tonight, what will stop them from winning that argument . Its going to help in securing the legacy for their policy. But when you look at just how bad the results are, this isnt just a defeat for Jeremy Corbin but the policies that he, and. And then also yes, brexit is a problem and has been a problem but when you go to some of these places him how come his majority of shredded when he has been up there fighting until whoever breaks it. Jeremy corbin and the politics doesnt represent them as working class people in england. This delusion they have to keep on and eventually the British Public will see it for what it is and they will flock to support it. I think they decided a long time ago. But as you begin by saying they are in charge of the party and they are calling the shots and have a clear narrative to explain what has happened. The results are going through the public in the end and the public are giving the clearest possible message. Who is going to stop them because we are now getting people coming out from the social democratic wing of the party. Who would you represent. Its not just mr. Corbin, its what he stood for as you were saying. Where does that come from because the moment that you would say they are still in control. It has to be a proper analysis of what has gone on and a proper debate and some fundamental truths have to be faced otherwise it faces oblivion. I think that the stuff that they are saying tonight is delusional and i understand the pain they are going to feel at the moment. It is camouflaged in this reality is as if the politics if you go around saying to people i dont want your votes, you are just a tory, dont be surprised. The way that they conduct the politics come and is your party hurting . I hope not. It is so obvious for this to happen. They are delusional if well have been 50 years since any labor leader won the general election. Hes actually over there with you. Thank you. And we will go back to huw. Lets have a response to the pretty damning reader of the analysis given about why they are in this position. Is and what he did over brexit. He wanted them to have a policy that we actually had. We are doing well ther were doii remain areas and we are doing badly in these areas. I think this was primarily about brexit. I think its true that the brand was damaged by brexit primarily because unfortunately it was such a difficult path to travel. Its easy when we are doing badly that he took the route that probably has maximized the support in these areas. I know that its bad that it was going to be bad. It was basically admitting that strategy was a bit of an impossible one to carry off partly because the pressure from all sides. They had a sense of the leader whos been dragged to the position hes clearly uncomfortable with and i think it is fascinating having said the relationship was sent certainly is. That is what they were calling out for. To change the agenda. We did a lot of testing and messaging. Its clear that we fail to change the agenda unless you defeated them on the argument that hes not going to get it done then you will not be heard on these other things and that is what has happened. Is that right . I dont think its right. We are about cruising the politics if we want to change things we have to change Public Attitudes and that means making arguments about the radical new policies. By the way they are traditional social democratic policies. The Public Ownership of the things that we are proposing. They are commonly in the Public Sector and other countries. Its not that radical. Its beyond anything to the extent. Clearly theyve taken in the extent of the defeat. He is waving as he is coming in and these are live images coming in. Life images coming in. As we look at these images, we ask the direct question are you calling on him to stand down . I think that he will make his own decisions. Im sure hes been think about these things and he will make them. I do not think we have to as we need the reflection i think we were far too quick to rush into. We should have a leadership election and he may wish to stay on. She was scared to face him and this Election Campaign but im sure he would be perfectly willing to face him when they bring back the withdrawal bill next week. I just noted we have to change Public Attitudes. Isnt it actually that they have to change its attitude towards the public and that is exactly the problem that they were speaking to before. I think we do listen to the public and the public are actually asking about any of our policies. We presented a very lengthy and bold manifesto which was a program for more than a government for ten years plus. Maybe we should have a shorter manifesto. They didnt have some of the new policies in that, but i think the program is right because the states of the economy, the states of the public service, because the threat of Climate Change is so dramatic we will still need them at the next election. Nick robinson is there. What is the sense of whats going on in terms of the mood of the labor leader . Extraordinarily somebody here, theyve arrived here and just a few hundred yards away from where he lives she knows this place incredibly well and must have trumped up arriving here to the cheering crowds in expectation that he might become feminists are. Instead, he comes in knowing that his days of controlling the labour party are coming to an end. They will end in the next few days. Whatever allies, like john says, the coordinator in the labour party is over. The argument that you have been having is really whether his people, the people he brought into the labour party, the people who control the labour party, can they hang on to the control even if mr. Corbin waves goodbye to the leadership of the labour party. That is the arguments taking place, and as i look down now youre on Jeremy Corbin who is standing just below, i am on the gallery, the balcony, just above him and he is talking to people. He hugs them as if to say it is all coming to an and. Here in the north they will have a majority. Very safe labour seats, but the project, the belief that his brand of socialism could take the labour party into government, that project is over at least for him. When we look at these images, the former conservative, just thinking when you look at this campaign, which has been no nowo this result which is big for Boris Johnson, what are your thoughts on how its gotten to this point . My first comment, i decided that sean is my new best friend because i think he plays such an enormous role in making the labour party fundamental, and i think that he is pretty well destroyed it for many, many years. I dont think that its just been about brexit. I think that actually Jeremy Corbin was never a Credible Future Prime Minister, and of course on brexit him he didnt really have a clear view, said he demolished himself on that as well. I think for us, we are obviously going to have proposals in scotland and theres pressure in dublin or instance. But there may be some pressure there. Theres an interesting phenomenon that i think could redefine the british politics which is that something has happened on the back of brexit, which either one is something ive been wanting to see for many years that we have gained appeal in workingclass areas in the middle and into the north which is far too long as the labor party taken for granted. The challenge for us now is to make sure that we can [inaudible] have confidence in the government and clarity in the seat to say people that voted conservative are not just going to say thank you, ive done is because weve got brexit, but i think even the future because conservatives have delivered on broad policies in those areas and that is a challenge i think for Boris Johnson. This goes straight back to nick robinson. What is striking is look at these images. I was there and just a couple of days ago and still there was the remnants of what you saw two years ago in 2017, the crowds and its now quite different. Silence here. Shes looking up at me now in the gallery talking with people hes known for many years but there is none of the excitement on none of the chanting. This is the corbin of ten, 20, 30 years ago. A modest, low key constituency member of parliament loved by the people who work with him, but gone is the aura of the leadership and of the sense that this is and alternative pre minister and the idea of the band that kerrys position and carried labor into the office. What he knows and they know most people watching is that he looks to do worse. It is a shocking fall from the heights. As we look at these images for another sense of the reaction. Welcome to the program. It looks to be pretty bad defeat objectively where we lost the vote and now which houses were lost the primary reason is because this became a brexit election in which it will overshadow parts. In the 2017 general election we had a manifesto with the same leader and gained 3 million votes. Fast forward to two years later, and its a very worrying result indeed. It is much more radical than this type. A lot of are spending. A loa lot of oura lot of our taa lot, lot more borrowing. In 2017 you are not saying that hyou would take 10 of the company employing more than 250 people. It was more a radical manifesto. Does that multiply any part in the results tonight . We were not complaining about the politics. We were raising the issue of brexit and it appeared people wanted to get things done starting it seems to me the main thing that has changed with the same leader in the general election. Since 1992 youve lost. They did a good job of making people think that Jeremy Corbin a decent man is some kind of threat to National Security and it isnt the fault of the people that controlled your party. They wouldnt bother wasting their time or money on that, but i think the primary reason we need to analyze objectively between 1997 and 2010 we lost 5 million votes. We have to analyze why we lost those votes and get them back in the same way after tonight we need to analyze objectively where we lost those votes and how we lost those votes do you think in five years time the labor party should fight the election with the same policy stance that it had. In a supporting some kind of triangulation of some kind of conspiracy i think the policies were very popular. Jamie will issue a statement. He will make his mind up. By view is that he is a far more decent progressive person then many of the critics. But that doesnt answer my question. Lots of results coming in. Some gains and losses. If you go to the Resource Center that will take us through the results that were picked up. Coming in. A couple of holds. Theyve had a majority cut in half and you dont quite see it on the board yet a couple of changed hands stopped into the conservative game and that same story the labor party has lost it to the conservatives and the past two decades. The conservatives tonight picked up half of the vote share and the new is scott intended for the conservatives. Lets take a little look at what has happened with the share of the vote in a familiar story now by this time. The share of the vote is down by 12 points. The conservatives are up by seven and the brexit party are putting in a performance here on six points. Now i just want to show you a person that is now emerging, that the difference in which theyve been voting when it comes to the performance and labor. When we talk about the seats we mean seats where 60 or more of the electorate voted into similarly remained. If you compare that labour performance, they are performing much less well in the lead seats down by 12 Percentage Points, down in the remaining seats as well put it down by less. By contrast the conservatives are performing better up by five Percentage Points and they are down by three points in the remaining seats but not by as much as labour, and that is why we are seeing this strong conservative performance across the board here down in both of the seats. Some interesting trends there. Another result that Jeremy Corbin would be relieved about because the labor hold its been a bit of a surprise in 2017 lots of students were voting and a first and second place, but the hold the air and on the turnout 75 that we havent seen. The majority of the 18 hundreds on the 48 of the vote and 3 ahead for labour an and maybe jn can talk a bit about the different patterns of voting in some of these areas, one being 45 to 54 remain so that is a part of the thinking. This wing is that 1. 4 from the conservative to labour. What i would like to do at this point before i bring my guests bachus take stock in Northern Ireland because there are some significant contests taking place and we are looking at quite a few of the seats there including belfast where the leader is standing. What is the latest intelligence that you are getting their . We could be close to be very dramatic. The constituency has been one of the headline battles. If this proves to be correct, that will be a huge blow. Hes a politician that has been there for 18 years and prominent for rapid negotiations in westminster. If they one belfast it means that nigel will have fallen victim because in his constituency the other nationalist parties they give a clear run at it. Its Getting Better between the two sides, not completely confirmed yet but they they have unseated thhaveunseated the vot. Now a bit hes a solicitor himself and really what they are saying that the battle they try to unseat as this has happened and has been a pretty bad night. That is intriguing and we will be back with you as soon as we get more news of that in belfast north. North. Lets go to richmond in london. Thats an interesting context of course in terms of the conservatives. Whats going on . The authority of the 45 votes we are expecting that result within the next ten to 15 minutes, possibly half an hour. The liberal democrats are expecting to win. The Biggest Issue on the doorstep was brexit and even though many people in this part of london have been worried about Jeremy Corbin and where the vote was going to put him think that is possibly giving a reasonable lead in the last few weeks and have allowed people to have confidence that have always switched but of course that has been represented since 2010 and then he lost by the majority. But he is going to be unseated and that is despite a lot of effort coming down here several times to campaign on behalf of a friend of the feminist or. There for us in richmond. Could that be a surprise by that margin . Yes. Its going to be a very vulnerable seat and he was a wellknown figure in a very strongly remaining seat, so weve got the london factory and then meanwhile weve also got the results in the northeast and i think that reinforces the patent that will determine this victory of the scale in the midland and the more offended that is the main determinant of what will be the national picture. People talk about accelerating the process now and the Prime Minister that is going to have a very decent majority what do you think the implications of that art and is it going to be possible to accelerate to the extent things can be tied up and is that remotely practical . The big thing we are seeing is the escaping from the deadlock of the past few months which has caused a degree of paralysis. To have a comfortable majority lets say 56, we dont know, it is plenty to be able to have a functioning government and do it well so im absolutely convinced and lets face it, she got the Withdrawal Agreement and it was voted positively. You will be able to get that really massive significant stage through before christmas i think and that will change the dynamics of the politics. First of all, boris is the dominant political figure and he has been since he was elected in july. He filled the space in august, hes the biggest personality on the page. He is going to be able to get us out of the total obsession to govern across the whole waterfront of domestic and Foreign Policy which lets face it has been absent the last few months. You were one of the many that was scathing before he went to number ten. Why do you think youve got it so wrong lax i was a loyalist. I supported theresa may when she tried to get the deal through. I think that this has been a massive indication of the personality and the scale of the majority gives massive personal authority he has now proven and weve got to turn back now into competent government and that is a bigger challenge. Perhaps we are not focusing enough because weve got to satisfy those that have supported us not just on the issue of brexit but on the broad domestic policy in some of these past areas of the nort north ine planes as well as reestablishing our authority on the world stage beyond just the united states. You think that hes up to it now because you were his colleague and youve are quite clear you had doubts about whether or not he is to be the pre minister. You can take on that kind of task. I think actually, since he got there he has become almost a different person. I think that when you are striving to get somewhere and you are stuck in the horrors of the brexit division, its very, very difficult that he can now be his own man. And thereve been a lot of comments in terms of being a social liberal or not. I think that he is a social liberal. Hes been very hard and strong on the issue but a certainty that can be sent and now he can govern with authority. We have to govern as one party and not have any longer factions within the parliamentary party. Hes his own man. This is the one where the action is. Its where the conservatives had their eyes on you can see the party that helped them in 2017 it is a projection still where its solid so yes we are projecting a whole slew of sea seats. They are all projected to go but it only seats one to 32 so this is the start of what they would have been hoping for. Now bear in mind that he only needed a seat in addition to the one to get the majority. Lets see how far down theyve gone. Again you see a lot of blue. You can see the projections and yes losing in the south and you see lots of blue coming down. The conservatives are reaching deep into the labou labor terrio sold more than here working to the majority. Lets have a look now at 65. We wouldnt expect to be normally having rich pickings in the area. Here it gets harder to win the seat. Wolverhampton northeast, that goes blue. And then a result that we have had we are seeing even as far down as seats 96. Lets go further. 97, 98, 99, 100. So it goes to 70, that is over 100 target. Staying red, the south stained red. We look further and still cant find where that huge result was earlier so we have to go to one more. This shows the extent in the various areas and there were 132. Seats 132 on the target list and holding the seats you would expect them to do. The majority are in the thousands, of 10,000 in some of those. Just finally here is there any comfort here for labour, these are conservative seats that were under attack would expect them to hold nearly all of them are labour was in second place last time as we looked down 1 degree of light, there we are. But at the moment, nothing else to write home about. So its a very dramatic picture. It certainly is. When you start to think about seats like bishop, you do realize whats going on here and that is what i would like to do is have a look at the result. Im looking at this one and there are still many of them out there. Shes been since 1935. Its gone conservative. The new mp is taking the seat over 24,000 votes. This isnt some small wind of the majority. 36 labor. Whats happened down by 12 and up by 7 , they are taking votes probably from labour as well in order for the results to work out. When you see bishop wayne conservative, whats going through your mind . It is extremely depressing. Now voting conservative that is of course devastating that what you are seeing is not as simple as alan was saying. Maybe we need to do more analysis. It isnt for them it planned. Its because a number of seats we have seen in liverpool where there were springs from the conservatives to labor in other cases very low and that is where we were seeing. Im going to pause you there for a second. Now theyve just returned and the West Midlands has been the territory for the conservatives tonight. They are picking up a lot of seats. Did you expect to do this across the country, across england . I havent officially been returned unless you know something i dont im still waiting for the results but im optimistic. You were quite right with what i think we have seen so far what i was trying to find out this data you expect this result to be picking up so many of the labor seats . We dont have the final, final results yet. But it is of course incredibly encouraging this evening. And you know, i didnt know what to expect going into this. We went in fighting for every single vote. I think that our approach clearly looks like its paid off. The messages got through. People have rejected the division that was offered by Jeremy Corbin and diane abbott and the others and they want unity and the country to move forward. Of course they want brexit down and thats great we can move forward in that way but they want so much more. They want a government that listens to them and hopefully if this is confirmed, that is exactly what they are going to get. Of course you havent gotten brexit down and even if you pass the Withdrawal Agreement, you then go into some rather difficult details in those situations on what are the partnerships with the European Union. We dont really know the shape of what youre going for. What we do know of course is that we have a deal. We had it before but we couldnt get it through. I know that. The shape of the future partnership deal. The first thing is to get the deal through and we will start that process in parliament if the results tonight are not confirmed. I understand that [inaudible] whats been happening is . If we get the deal through parliament which we well with the majority cut and of course we move to the next phase which is to get the excellent trade deal that weve negotiated the principles that we have set out and we will get that through parliament and we would do that next year and now if the majority is the kind of majority but its suggested tonight, im incredibly confident that we will get through parliament and we will be having the smoothest of all exits from the eu where we will still have the friendly relationship with our european friends that we can move forward with brexit and also have the bandwidth for so much else, the nhs and hospitals. Weve had five weeks of that. A lot of bluecollar worker bluo are working class labor workers voted tonight. Do you think that it will reward them and give them something to work their vote backs file, i stepped on stage a few months back at the conference is that w it is thate party of the working class. But what are you going to do for them. The message, look at the manifesto i think people have been looking at this and reflected on that and that is why i think that we are seeing the nice that we have, so for example, as we said in the first budget that we have in february, we are going to be cutting taxes for the working people, the nationalist shortcut. And clearly this has been an important part of the message. I think that its gotten through but people also naturally in casting the vote of what we said to the nonsense that was spewed out by the labor party and the numbers didnt add up and the labor party sadly are you saying that if confirmed he will stay as chancellor . Lets see what the results are tonight. And i hope in a few hours tomorrow morning we will see Boris Johnson back as Prime Minister and one of the first things he will do is step out of the government. Lets get back to you to see the results. I think you. Thank you very much. Some remarkable stuff coming through. Why dont we just catch a break and they will take us through some of the really notable results that have been flowing through in the last halfhour or so. More evidence here of the red seas turning blue and of the conservatives taking a real chunks out of the labour which was a target counter that 43. The tory target plus 104. In the northeast and middleton all going conservative from labour. Labour. Getting 7 percent of the vote there. But labor keeps falling by twice as much in the workingclass areas compared to the other workingclass areas. To show you quickly the exit poll compared to the result and you can see it was pretty accurate. And that what we were forecasting earlier with the conservatives two or 3 percent. So you can see the exit poll that we had earlier in the evening. We will go to the news in a second but just as we were looking at those results where for decades that is complete nonsense here there and everywhere and culture peoples heritage and heartland to use that terrible political phrase but now slipping over to the other side but for a whole variety of reasons that we can sense that part of that we know that. And to get to that position they may well get back to government this is the fourth general election defeat in a row for the labour party. This is it just oh well it did not work out. And the country was changing. Lets have a look at those news projections because we have been adjusting the bbc forecast based on the results we have coming in so those latest figures we are now forecasting the conservatives which is less than the 368 labor is up then suggested earlier. But then and for the greens it will be the brexit party so that is the projection with 3 00 oclock in the morning with this Election Night you are watching election 2019. Now lets take a look at the News Headlines across the newsroom. Hello. And with the majority the biggest win since 1987. And then to believe in the referendum. And it is a big victory. As we outline through the entire campaign. We have that gridlock in parliament and get it done before christmas. And delighted that the tories have made roads and they share a cabinet member in congress. And to elect the first conservative member of parliament in 1979. And all the villages in between and taking to westminster. The brexit policy. And it has enormous democracy of the consequences. The questions now loom over his leadership. Thats all the headline of what i want to say is the labour Party Tonight we have failed to meet the test of the public and that is heartbreaking. And the joy for the brexit party in those target areas. Now the finish line is in sight. And the exit poll predicts in 20 states that would be 55 seats and then the ninth was taking and then they gained angus from the conservatives. The Democratic Unionist Party had a bad night in the last few minutes losing the seat and they could also lose. So the conservatives are making significant gains and full from labor by the time and running neck and neck. And with that constituency and providing entertainment and you can get Information Online for the latest results as they come in real time. And now its back to election 2019. Basically we have 227 seats declared 422 to go so we are in a position because of the detailed work of the original figures we gave you those original projections they are suggesting a smaller conservative majority that at the start of the evening but jeremy can tell us all about it. Yes. The conservative numbers are down a little bit. And with Boris Johnson with 326 and what we think will be the situation by the end of the night. 357 seats. And 201 and with that disastrous 1983 now brilliant night in scotland no progress to write home about and the majority is down and very useful for Boris Shelton and looking at these revised figures talking about a potential majority for the tories but still lets be very honest of the global majority. And that private range between 20 and 60 from what they were looking at. And then which was relatively stable to match together what they wanted to do between themselves to make that fairly certain. And with the party and then the du pletter but then we know every single waking hour she was Prime Minister and powerful remainders in her cabinet just a completely different kind of process how exciting and perhaps you are quite worried about tha that. And with that speculation one speculation taking place. Come to the stage to make the announcement. I Nancy Baldwin the returning officer for the constituency declared the total number given to each candidate is as follows. The conservative Party Candidate 6793. [cheers and applause] founder labour party 3400. [applause] and liberal democrats, 34500. [cheers and applause] and the liberal democrats 34559. Independence 247. John rusher independent 61. The total number of ballots accepted 173. The reasons for rejection were. There are some of the statistics. Those are remarkable results and he was the mp in 2016 as minister to the environment while he is very heavily defeated those are the former mp. And look at the share of the vote to see how strongly they performed in southwest london compared to the 41 percent to the tories. In labor is down for a very interesting balance if you look at the swing. One of the wealthiest constituencies in this rematch. And 79 percent. And there were jokes of whole forest detailing green policies for being an environmentalist but they would be absolutely overjoyed with those results and thats a tricky night for them and then already in trouble herself with that declaration quite soon to say she was genuinely a candidate to be Prime Minister. This brings us to the overall picture based on the results coming in so just explain to us what the adjustments are. He said 368 seats now we say 367. And with the margin of error. The acting returning officer to that constituency on the 12th of december 2019 hereby gives notice the number of votes afforded to each candidate at the set election is as follows. Nicholas charles ellsworth. [applause] 236. [cheers and applause] james clark 5483. [applause] Jeremy Corbin 3603. [applause] the brexit party 742. [applause] caroline green party 4326. [cheers and applause] nick, liberal democrat 8415. [cheers and applause] the total number of ballots rejected is as follows those that voted for more candidates. So there we have the results. 34603 and then we will just stay with these images because perhaps they will Say Something or have something to say but of course we are waiting to see what he says about the results over his leadership over this general election lets listen to mister corbin now. [applause] thank you to returning officer to the police that have ensured a fair and democratic election has taken place today. And also to congratulate our fellow candidates for their participation in the selection. Also a heartfelt thanks to the people for electing me again for the tenth time to represent in Parliament Im very proud to do so and i have learned so much from the people its my pride and pleasure to represent them in parliament. [applause] i also want to thank all of the wonderful comrades and supporters with that huge effort they put into this Campaign Including overtime with hope and justice and i hope to a wider world. The pressure on those surrounding politicians the meeting intrusion on peoples lives is very high indeed and the attacks that take place against loved ones of politicians are disgraceful and disgusting. I want to take this opportunity to thank my family and Close Friends and those that have been during every other Election Campaign. And with a huge support they have given me and my wife and for all she puts up with and the way the media behaves toward me and toward her and during this Election Campaign. [applause] this is obviously a very disappointing night for the labour party with the results we got but i want to tell you , this Election Campaign we put forward a manifesto of hope and unity that would help to right the wrongs and injustices and inequality that exist in this country for those children that need school that is properly funded and is not being taught in oversize classes a manifesto that gave hope to deal with the Environmental Crisis by investing in the green Industrial Revolution all of those policies were extremely popular during the Election Campaign and remain through huge Popular Support however brexit has so polarized and divided debates within this country it has overwritten so much of normal political debate and i recognize that has contributed to the result of the labour party has perceived all across this country. The issues of social justice will not go away just because it is presumably plans all those issues will come back centerstage in the debate and about justice and policy in our society thats there for all time because its too wet my party believes in and on behalf of my party and to make it clear will not leave the party in any future general Election Campaign to ensure there is a process no now, a reflection on the policies the party will take going forward. I will leave the party during that period to ensure that discussion takes place. [applause] because i am very proud a half million members made to lead the party very proud of the way we thought this Election Campaign he did not undertake personal abuse we undertook the task of hope and justice through every part of this country i am very grateful to the labour party who has been tolerant of the fact i did not spend as much time in the sElection Campaign to make sure the labor message is put their i will remain that we will favor the socialism to social justice who will need that of all rather than the grief of a few and im very proud of the achievements of the labour party and the development of this manifesto those ideas and principles are eternal and will be there for all time thank you once again for putting their faith and trust in me and i will work as i always have to represent defend the constituency because they are very special thank you very muc much. Jeremy corbin leader but its a different night for his party announcing he is leaving any future general election but to leave the party in a reflection of how to lead the party forward. Then to join us now. So im hoping the party leader have your support tonight . Im sorry i am losing you. But if i may respond i feel it is a very dignified speech that he will not be leading us into the future general election. That this was a very bad night for the labour party and those that have campaigned so hard and those that have changed for the better and we didnt have to reflect on that defeat then to have a very good time as Prime Minister. I will just ask you basically is he right to want to stay on to find a way forward or do you feel within the next few days . That is a decision for jeremy to make. No one could have asked anymore jeremy. The night is still young. Very clearly a transition because thats what he himself just said. Then cannot win Peoples Trust and i have had too many conversations and others would say the same so in order to move forward and why need to suffer defeat tonight. Viewers would be interested to know where he had majorities to the conservatives this evening so when you look at this loss. Is those with brexit . I think and for this time and then to find truth and its a really good result. Im sorry to interrupt you. Liberal democrats, 1907. Nicholas fletcher conservative party 19609. [cheers and applause] caroline labour party 15979. York shire party 823. Catherine known as kate green party 872. Paul allen brexit party 6247. [applause] there were 82 rejected votes Nick Fletcher is duly elected as a member of parliament on the constituency. In the labor party and a former Energy Secretary and critic of Jeremy Corbins leadership and Nick Fletcher and theres never been a conservative mp since 1922. This is the scale of change we are seeing tonight in the very big labor seats turning toward the conservative. And those with the founders of those labor performances 35 percent or ten out of 60 percent and they are dropping by 80 Percentage Points. And that percentage share some of the brexit party clearly had a bigger effect. Nine. 6 percent no longer the mp there the First Time Ever representing and the majority over 23000 hits now under 3000 why did so many people desert you . And upwards of 31000 its 4000 less and it is the collapse of the labor vote. So i am proud and we have a chance now to move the country forward following the exit polls this evening to move the country forward. So just a little bit like a referendum but at the end of the day and then the agenda. And to be dramatically slashed and this is where the tory majorities would wave them that there were so many. And now its to gain a majority in the north your kind of seat is no longer the future for the tory party. And the key for the aspiration of the middleclass. But nonetheless but then you look at the number of votes but what really happened they were secondplace but it had absolutely plummeted to maintain where we can with those constituencies who hear what we have to say. The majority is clearly doing very well in england but they are sweeping the board for scottish independence. But we were told it was a one generation referendum. And then to defy the will of the british people to unite the country and bring it together with a host of agendas. When england and scotland are going in separate directions and with that majority and with the investment into love and the fortune across the country which is passion. We will leave you to enjoy your victory. And the social affair advisors. So the peoples vote will remai remain. This is as follows. Jonathan david known as the count independent 59. Lord bucket head the official 125. And uk independent party, 283. Labor democrats 3026. Boris johnson 25351. [cheers and applause] the green party 3490. 18341. [applause] Tobin William john. Five. And with that timelines 23. And rejected ballot papers to save Boris Johnson lets see what he has to say. I dont want to tempt fate with projections but at this stage it does look like this one nation conservative government has been given a powerful new mandate. [applause] and we will build 40 new and we will be right here. And i am grateful that thank you for returning me and those who have worked so hard a returning officer lord bucket head and others forgive me if i cannot name them all. But i want to thank the people of this country in a december election. Which has turned out to be a historic election. The chance to respect the norm of the people for the better to release the potential of this country. That is what we will now do as the exit polls project that will begin tomorrow. Thank you all very much. Thank you. And hereby give notice the total number of votes of each candidate is as follows. The National Party 19672. Independent rosie dixon 221. Scottish conservative unionist 7465. And the Scottish Family Party 497. And the Scottish Labour Party 839. And the scottish liberal democrat 19520. [cheers and applause] i declare amy is elected to serve in the parliament. [cheers and applause] with 149 and losing to the scottish National Party and the callahan just beats with a turnout of 80 percent. Hotly contested race and 30 7. 1. Through 36. Eight. Putting on seven Percentage Points led on five. 3 percent to the smp that is a massive blow to the liberal democrats and for the newly elected leader and the way the election has gone with the hardline policies so what do you make of that . And with the National Party leader. But then can you spend the time and then she brushed us off but given to what is happening to her party nationally. But i wouldve thought but just a second but just a sense from you. Did they think for their results is enough . And looking at peoples faces and they are saying they are fairly confident. And those that are counting the votes. And with the scottish parliamen parliament. And all my fellow candidates to congratulate wholeheartedly and i wish you well. What you said about young women and smashing boundaries i wholeheartedly agree. Also an activist to make the campaign special with the additional challenge as leader of the democrats my mom and my husband and my two darling boys. I would like to thank the people for putting your faith in me to represent 12 and a half years. I have enjoyed serving. Whether its here or minimum wage or inflicting penalties and we have seen like Boris Johnson to get a majority and its clearly a good night for the party. With that wave of nationalism and to congratulate all of those that are newly elected it is significant for the future of our country but let me say now these results people are looking for hope. I still believe that we as country can be warm and generous and inclusive and by working together we can achieve so much more. Liberal democrats will continue to stand up for these values that guide our liberal movement openness fairness we will stand up for hope. [applause] and leaving for defeat of the scottish National Party this is a fairly big piece i dont see that changing. It is. It is a huge the way she proudly boasted at the beginning of the campaign but then even to lose her own seats not even to be better but if you give lengthy speech but it this election is not just seat numbers but potentially a really changing of the guard and Jeremy Corbin says he doesnt want to go yet but is on his way to the exit door and then also this other prominent labor piece so in that way in terms of the personality it is very transformative election with a very different set of parameters. Having seen that and seen a result with 6000 plus 70 percent so it is a good game of 62 percent from conservative. We have lots of guests to speak very quickly just to talk about this point but where are we . s what is your sense of the majority. No i wasnt expecting it. And now to see Boris Johnson liberated to shape the country and party and his image as he wants. Do you suggest he will be a different leader now five months ago . He was relying on that European Research but and what brexit will be when its his own brexit he doesnt need any Coalition Partners or any aid. So earlier between Alastair Campbell about what has been a brexit issue or a corbin issue. For me on the doorstep of the constituencies but it was always negativity about jeremy first be honest about that. He stuck to what he has received with the climate agenda and fighting a hard brexit devastated and places by homophobic or racist and we pay the price for doing so. So by the way from downing street and speeding from north london its those who have worked in the past so why would they vote something it should be obvious. Looking at that result in they voted for brexit toward labor and leader and its values and hoping to win them back and all of them i am on their children so what happens next if he says he wants to stay on if there is a debate about the future of the party as a period of reflection can he do that . He had the right position but the whole election has been badly executed whether he wants to or not people are prepared to say by the middle of next week there would be leadership contest. And to see the Prime Minister at downing street with the majority we are expecting. We expect a statement from the Prime Minister to all the knowledge that has been deeply divided. What does he need to do cracks does he need to reach out like he hasnt done in the past . Its a very different kind of one nation and what he means by from one nation conservative and the liberal and then to get the education through. And the concept of one nation if it is a uk context. This has been a deeply divided nation and he seems to be heading into the english nationalist Prime Minister. Very interesting Carrie Simmons and the dog it was interesting what he said to rebrand his partys and talk about the conservative party but the one nation conservatives talking about more money for nurses and doctors and so forth. So what kind of Boris Johnson and government he would like to see so that was interesting first of all. Boris johnson everybody looks at him through their own tendencies but those indication to attack toward the center to a softer exit. Thank you. Now he is on his way back. At some point that i thought it was fascinating. And to say that i do want to get brexit done and then to those Health Services as i understand it and thats what we can expect and to get through the brexit legislation but the enormous junction but then after that with the head dramatic shuffle during the february or march time. Time. For a quick look at the of the parties lets go to our resold sector. Ive got to scotland brought up for you and its not a very strong night. Over half the seats declared now and theyve picked up 11 seats and again have been the conservative and labour losses. Lets just take a look at some of the seats. That is a seismic shock of course with the leader of the liberal democrats moving the seat but otherwise its been picking up seats for both labour and conservative the conservatiy much in equal measures, so the seats here with the blue at the end, they were conservative and 2017. Theyve now gone snp. Northeast and all of those down there with the red flashes, they were labour but theyve now gone. The last seat is no more. They both had tiny margins for labor last time around. Theyve now got them comfortable with margins of 5,000 or 6,000. East lothian is interesting with kenny mccaskill, he was the former justice secretary and he was the man who took the decision to release the bomber on compassionate grounds so this is how it is looking at the moment. Over half way through it is shaping up to be a strong night. We are forecasting now the seeds of around 53 so slightly down of the huge success from 2015 when they had 56 seats but not far off. Many thanks. On the successes just to round up, we will be talking to the first minister in just a moment. But before that, i want to go and talk to the cabinet minister the senior conservative. Good morning to you and congratulations on your win. Thank you very much. I noticed they had a bit of a surge going on putting on 60 . The majority is down by 6. 5000 but the majority is still over 80,000. Lets have a think about how the conservative majority has come about how would you sum that up . The i think that Boris Johnson is absolutely right when this was called we didnt want it for the parliament was broken. We needed to make sure that the referendum mandate and 2016 was honored and apprentice to put that at the heart of this campaign. More than just promising the mandate, the minister also looked behind what happened in that vote and recognized as a country in parts of the north and midlands you have parts of the country which had been overlooked and undervalued. In particular it was the case we needed to make sure that we have a concrete investments in the skills and infrastructure to ensure that we could equally spread Economic Growth and prosperity across the country and that would be the mission of this conservative government up onorhat mandate but to take us out of the European Union and into the world but also to ensure the divisions the referendum result revealed rather than created the divisions that our society there is a very high expectation now that in many of those areas where youve taken the seats tonight there would be a high expectation that you would put policies in place which will convince people that you do understand what the problems raised by austerity are and what theyve been through. Are you confident you can do that the analysis from the moment was correct we do need to recognize after some difficult decisions that have to be taken to get our economy back in the balance now is the time for the investment in the public services. Our National Health is absolutely top of the list but we need to level the spending on education to ensure that we spread opportunity evenly across the country. We know talent is spread evenly. Opportunity is not. We also need make sure people are safe and secure and they have a sense of certainty for the future and that means making sure that we invest in more Police Officers and also make sure that the Justice System effectively keeps the public safe by making sure that the criminals and terrorists are kept behind bars. Its five minutes passed. Thanks for joining us and congratulations once again on maintaining your seat. I want to go straight to gloss go and talk to the leader of the National Party the first minister nicolas. A very good morning to you and thanks for joining us. Good morning. Thank you for having me. Lets talk about the Strong Performance and was this something that you were expecting aare expectingat the . I was expecting a good performance and to win the election but i think the results that we are seeing this evening somewhat exceeded the expectations that i have. Scotland sent a clear message. We dont want to leave the European Union and we want scotlands future. That is the message of this in scotland tonight. One thing about some of the messages in the campaign, and you were very clear about the fact in your view, scotland need a strong voice in westminster in order to did you say protect scottish interest and the interest of the people of scotland however, its not going to be a surprise if i say on the basis of these figures even if you have 50 plus, you are up against the conservative pre minister with a majority of lets say 60 or 65 there isnt a lot you can do. Presold is i dont want a conservative majority government, but the fact that that is what is going to be the position underlies the importance of scotland having a choice of Something Different and i dont pertain every Single Person will necessarily support independence, but there has been a strong endorsement of scotland having a choice over the future of not having the conservative government that we didnt vote for and not having to accept the nation outside of the European Union so that independent referendum is very much at the heart of the campaign and the renewed strength and mandate of that and just as i reluctantly have said its a direction Boris Johnson has a mandate and he must accept the choice of the alternative future. The scottish conservatives are offered the referendum since the campaign and more than that there was no other aspect and theyve lost the seat so the argument has been flatly and completely rejected. Its no doubt as a mandate i have a mandate to offer people the choice and then of course it is up to the people of scotland to decide the choice they make that Boris Johnson has no right to take scotland out of the eu and the second the no right to block people to choose their future. Its good of you to join us thank you once again. Lovely to talk to you. Now we go to maidenhead. Good morning. I know we have had some sound problems. When you call the general election two years ago you lost your majority the parliament that is going to have with the majority government to take the decisions and the ability to get the next brexit through to get it done and move the country on and then focus on those many other priority is that people want us as a government to focus on. But my question was why did you lose your majority, and why did he give a substantial one . I thought id sort of giving you the answer in what i just said that actually in this election i think people are faced with a very clear choice. It is ensuring we can get in the parliament and get brexit done and move on. Is it realistic in your view that mr. Johnson can negotiate a comprehensive freetrade deal with the eu in 11 months . Yes because a lot of work on that has already been done. It was done in the original negotiations and political declaration. A lot of work has already begun. The. How would you advise the Prime Minister to handle the . I think it is very simple. I would advise him to continue taking the position that he has done they should accept that result
