I want to welcome the president of the United States to the great state of texas. I want to express my gratitude for fellow texans in Corpus Christi for giving the president such a warm welcome on his ride over here, showing the gratitude we all have a for the president. I want to express my deep gratitude to the president for his entire cabinet and staff for what they have done in the past couple weeks. A lot of people see what happens i want to reveal in just one minute what has been going on behind the scenes, behind the camera, the past two weeks. Advance of then hurricane, he was coming into the Corpus Christi area. Members of the president s cabinet and the cabinet himself were in contact with me and my office, prepreparing for this catastrophe coming our way. Every step of the way as the hurricane was coming to shore. The flooding began in houston, texas. The president and his cabinet remained in the Constant Contact with me and my staff and they had one thing to say texas, what do you need . How can we help . You can count on us. What i have learned is, we can count on the president of the United States and his staff for helping texas. Texas has been tested. But our response to the challenge is been made much more effective because of the very effective way the president and his staff have helped respond to this challenge. Mr. President , thank you and welcome. President trump i appreciate it. , a specialy my honor place and a special state. Z, thank you very much for being here. We appreciate it. You were trapped in various locations, we appreciate you both being here. I want to thank my staff and cabinet. We have quite a few here. Tom price, linda mcmahon, Small Business is now big business. When you added up you are helping a lot of people in texas and doing a fantastic job. Thank you very much. We have had a tremendous group, our acting director, thank you very much for the job you have done. And a man that will become very famous. We appreciate it very much. I can tell you my folks are telling me how great the representatives have been, it is a real team. We want to do it better than er before. We want to be looked at in five years and 10 years as, this is the way to do it. This is epic proportions. No one has ever seen anything like this. Governor, thank you very much. Wont say congratulations, we do not want to do that. We want to congratulate each other when it is all finished. Friend. Been my thank you, mr. President. The whole community is coming together. Right here where the brunt of the category 4 winds came and we are affecting recovery. It is a slow process. But we are trying to unify efforts down to the most responders, first responders. Yesterday we put eyes on the ground in rockport. We are working in conjunction with the Governors National guard. Water and theng National Guard is helping with the distribution point. All eyes are on houston. We have a ng way to go. We will set up expectations and have a unified effort to help the state of texas recover. Very quickly, the objective stay the same. It is not over. We are still on a lifesustaining mission. We are aware of the issues at the Convention Center. The let me be clear, this is not a superdome. At the Convention Center they have the sustaining food, security, and incident management team. More and more people are bei moved to shelters to stabilize the situation. Pushing,thing is were commodities, and get people registered in the system to receive assistance. Assistance does not justome from fema, it comes from many organization represented here today by secretarprice, secretary carson, and others. Next thing is, maintaining security. Mobilizing the Homeland Security task force, law enforcement, making sure we are anticipating any security needs we have. Price, wesecretary are working not only with governors and medical teams, but sending medical teams in not just to the Convention Center today. There are already some onsite. To make sure were meeting access and functional needs. Challenge to getting supplies in. Once the Roadway Systems come in, we have amassed force for supporting local and state efforts. The governor pulled 12,000 National Troops in, we are pulling units out of fort hood in the federal government to come in as well. Told several thousand from the state of texas that is how the system works. It will be frustrating. We will be with you to help you through it. It will be tough to navigate. But we are here to help. With that, i would like to pass it along to our friends at the post at the coast guard. We are here in the state of texas to support the federal Emergency Management team. We serve men and women across the country. [indiscernible] , theu look at the landfall texas area we will speak more about that. Challenge. See rainfallbly for the year of about 50 inches. The coast guard and National Security team has spent sunday and monday at this location. We are Getting Better every day. It is a problem of catastrophic proportions. Encouraged about cooperation. Wilma have a couple moments, hopefully you can give perspective. [indiscernible] i want to give a timeline of what we have done. Tuesday the storm shifted and became a hurricane. Made preparations to lockdown facilities [indiscernible] evacuating asgan much as possible. On friday we moved our crafts away from the storm. We are dealing with a category for hurricane. We have a continuity of operations. [indiscernible] we sent our helicopters north and sent supplies. Saturday morng, conditions were not right to take notes on the water. The weather conditions were not allow us to stay on the water. Sunday, the storm shifted up to houston. Encourage rescue from dallas to houston. [indiscernible] want to make sure the team gets what it needs. It was a huge effort. Surveys and did evaluations. We wanted to make sure we opened ports that were safe. Those are major concerns. Up, night, the tide came the winds. Additionally, we are working [indiscernible] we are about 1 3 done with our survey. Is thegest challenge rescue operations. I can speak for the governor, we are very proud of the lives that a been saved. Thank you, very much. There is an economic issue, of course. There is violence on the waterways. It is a national priority. Thankou. There is information i would like to share in regards to how we can get involved. Neighbor helping neighbor will be needed in helping texas overcome. Very quickly, if you would like to register for assistance under the governors declared county there are 18 declared counties for individual assistance. Assistance. Gov. R that is the fema system.
