At least one area school district canceled classes this week when it didn’t have enough teachers or substitutes to cover a normal day. And now more districts are taking a look at vaccination schedules and putting plans in place in case of staff absences.
Fairless Local in Stark County called off school on Monday due to high teacher absences. District staff had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine on Saturday. Some of the Monday absences were due to side effects experienced by staff members.
“Some staff had normal side effects described by the health department and medical professionals,” said Broc Bidlack, superintendent of the Stark County district. “It wasn’t anything out of the ordinary.”
