Council impounding more than five cats each week

More than five cats are impounded in Mackay each week as they roam outside property boundaries.
Mackay Regional Council Community and Client Services director Angela Hays said out of the 189 cats collected since July, 28 were euthanised because they were too aggressive for rehoming.
That equated to about one feral cat being destroyed every 13 days.
Mackay residents were now calling for a curfew to stop the free-roaming felines getting their claws on native wildlife.
When the
Daily Mercury asked readers on Facebook about the idea, all 66 comments were in favour.
"You can see them come up out of the drains at night where I live," posted Maree Martin while Sammie Joyce wrote she was fed up with wandering cats attacking her indoor cat and annoying her dogs.
