A cosmetic surgeon has been struck off the UK medical register after a tribunal found that he deliberately misled the Care Quality Commission (CQC) about procedures he was performing at his clinics. Ashish Dutta also worked in breach of a dormancy notice imposed by CQC during the pandemic to prevent the spread of covid-19 and an interim order put in place during a General Medical Council investigation of his work.

Dutta “appeared to have a deep seated attitudinal problem and demonstrated a repeated willingness to step outside regulation,” said Gerry Wareham, chairing the medical practitioners tribunal that ordered him to be struck off.

The cosmetic surgeon told CQC that he was not undertaking surgical procedures at his Sunderland clinic, the tribunal found. “The false assurances made to CQC were deliberately deceptive and designed to avoid an inspection,” …
