Giovanni Melchiorre Bosco, popularly known as John Bosco, was canonized on April 1, 1934, by Pope Pius XI. St. John Bosco was then hereby declared the “Father and Teacher of Youth” in 1934 and eventually became the Patron Saint of apprentices, boys, editors, laborers, magicians, and students as declared by Pope John Paul II in 2002.
