Hello and a very warm welcome to our viewers in the United States and all around the world. Im bianca nobilo. Im max foster. Just ahead on cnn newsroom this this job we have to havemha, b, c, d, f, g. What letter are you on now . Nobody wins a Government Shutdown. It doesnt save any money. It costs us a lot of money. A shutdown, our troops wont get paid. I do not believe that the Current Evidence would support articles of impeachment. This hearing wasnt supposed to be about fireworks and bells an whistles. This is not the january 6 committee, this is not a stunt. There is a lot of reason to move to Federal Court starting with a better jury pool for donald trump. Live from london, this is cnn newsroom with max foster and bianca nobilo. It is friday, accepts 29, 9 00 a. M. In london, 4 00 a. M. In washington where the u. S. Government is barreling towards another shutdown. A. M. In london washington where the u. S. Government is barreling towards another shutdown. Even some republicans who control the chambers say they wont support the stopGap Spending Bill. Kevin mccarthy says he still has time to work things out. You know the process. Your per members wont in this job you have to havement a, b, c, d, e, f, g. What letter are you on now . I havent spelled my name yet. Tensions are running high among republicans with conservatives threatening to oust mccarthy from his role as speaker. Congressman matt gaetz is leading that change. Sounds like you got into an exchange with the speaker. What happened . You know, i asked him whether or not he was paying the influencers to post negative things about me online. He said he wouldnt waste time on you. Yeah, that is what he said. Lawmakers stayed late into the night thursday to vote on a series of funding bills, none of which would have prevented a shutdown. Now everyone is anticipating the outcome of todays house vote. Manu raju has the details. Reporter speaker Kevin Mccarthy is pushing ahead to have a vote on friday, short term bill to keep the government open for just a handful of days. But there is a problem. He doesnt have the votes because he has decided that he wants to try to get a bill passed on republican votes alone and there are more than four republicans who plan to vote against the short term plan. Even though he can only afford to lose four republicans, if all democrats vote against it, and at the moment that is what is expected, because he has included Spending Cutting that democrats accept, he has included Border Security measures that democrats also wont accept. But still the speaker believes that it will strengthen his hand with the United States senate. Also lingering over the speaker the possibility. If you were to cut a deal with democrats, there could be a vote to try to oust him from the speaker ship, a threat that has been waged time and time again from some of the far right. But this all comes as the senate is moving on its own track trying to pass a bipartisan measure to keep the government open but something that the speaker himself opposes. This all comes as firng nger pointing is starting to dominate as republicans are concerned that their divisions could lead to a protracted shutdown. I think everybody loses. I think republicans lose, i think the democrats lose, i think the stradministration los. The country loses. So we have to figure out how we do our job. Simple. It is not great. There is no one in that conference within our conference that wants a shutdown. I dont hear people saying that they want a shutdown. You know, i think that members should be looking at for stronger leadership. And you know what, quite frankly, i know people in my district that i represent want to see stronger leadership. So im all about it. Reporter i had a chance to ask the speaker what his plan is if the friday vote does indeed fail. He would not say. He said that he has plans but he wont reveal them. And also he wouldnt say if he has time to work with democrats to cut a bipartisan deal something that would likely pass the house and senate and get signed into law, but one that could cost him his speaker ship. Hes not concerned about the vote to push him out of the speaker ship even though that threat continues to be wielded by a number of conservatives. But the speaker claims there is a way out of this, but the question everyone has at this moment is what is that plan and will it work. Manu raju, cnn, capitol hill. The shutdown will have major impacts across almost every sector of the u. S. Many social net programs will be on hold, air travel will be disrupted as tens of thousand of air Traffic Controllers will be forced to work without pay. And millions of employees and active duty troops wont get paid until the shutdown is over. These Service Members have rent to pay, mortgages, child care, you know, you think of the daily expenses, greocery bills. Those bills still will be incurred but they wont receive a paycheck during this time. So the bills will mount up, it is an incredibly stressful time for folks when there is any type of Government Shutdown. A Surprise Court filing by Donald Trumps lawyers yesterday revealed that the former u. S. President wont seek to get his election Subversion Case in georgia moved to Federal Court after all. Yeah, trump had signaled for weeks that he intended to file such a motion by todays deadline but the recent experiences of some codefendants may dissuade him. Jessica schneider explains. It has been an uphill battle for the codefendants to try to get remuchl a few weeks ago a federal judge rejected mark meadows attempt to move his case out of state court to the federal level. So perhaps we know that donald Trump Lawyers were closely watching that proceeding and by all accounts mark meadows would have had a good case. He was Chief Of Staff working directly for the president of the United States. He said that most of what he did was within his official duties. But the federal judge rejected that argument. So perhaps trumps lawyers thinking that it would be an uphill climb if they try to remove the case to Federal Court. So trumps case will in fact now proceed in Fulton County as his other cases are moving. Were seeing a lot of pretrial motions in the cases of the maralago classified documents as well as the Subversion Case. For now we know at least one more case wont be added to the Federal Court document. And Jennifer Rogers is former federal prosecutor and she explained why she thinks trump decided not to fight this particular battle. They clearly decided that it would be enter to con serve their time and resources and focus on other matters where it could perhaps be a better payoff plus he likely would even have had to testify to have a chance to preprevail and that carries considerable risks as his statements could be used against h him. And right now a Flash Flood Warning is in effect for parts of New York City and western long island. The threat is coming from a new storm that joined forces with the remnants of ophelia. The intense rainfall could cause serious Flash Flooding on roads and even in subway stations. Chad myers has more on the flood threat on the east coast and the summerlike heat in the central u. S. Very significant flood event is shaping up here for the New York City metro area. I say metro area because it could be over parts of eastern long island, could be central long island, could be queens, even manhattan. And certainly well run this up into customer and possibly even a little bit of Upstate New York involved as well. Hour after hour of rainfall, this is a Computer Program that tries to predict where that rainfall will be. And for many hours very heavy rainfall here in the metro area. So it is really hard to tell you whether in six or 12 hours where each thunderstorm will be. But this is a low Pressure System off the east coast, not tropical, doesnt have a name, but it certainly will put down significant amounts of rainfall. Two to four on this model. Ive seen other models that are more than double that. So think about that over the next 24 hours. How much rainfall, how much flooding could be possible and how that affects your commute for today. Something else going on, heat in the midwest. All the way from chicago all the way down south even into texas, omaha will be in the 90s the next few days. That shouldnt be happening. Normal high should be 75. In the texas, back into summertime here. Dallas should be 85. Today you will be 97. Travel advisory is in effect right now for New York City, the citys Emergency Management department put the alert in place from friday 2 00 a. M. Until saturday at 6 00 a. M. With officials warning that the Morning Commute could see some heavy rain and flooding too. Metropolitan Transit Authority still plans to offer service and they encourage use Public Transportation if you need to travel. And in greece, some parts of the country got several months worth of rain in less than 24 hours. This is the second severe storm to hit that region this month. The mayor of one port city says 80 of the city lost power wednesday night. The cause of the storm. Heavy rainfall flooded homes, businesses and roads and left cars straunded. One resident criticized how officials are responding to the flood. Translator we saw the river was overflowing. We had been battling the situation with the water for 20 days. They do not come to help us. They open one small drain and then leave the rest. And the bridges have been built really low. It doesnt make sense. More rain is in the forecast for the next few days. Fortunately they are not expected to be severe. Natos top leader makes a visit to ukraine and pledges to keep military aid coming. Well have a live report on Jens Stoltenbergs trip to kooeyiv. Turning now to reports of new attacks on infrastructure in both ukraine and russia. Russia says a waiveve of ukrainian droves targeted a power grid friday morning causing a fire at an Electric Substation while ukraine says russia launched a Missile Strike on an Infrastructure Structure in mykolaiv. And this just a day after Jens Stoltenberg met with president zelenskyy. Nato is providing new ammunitions and he praised ukraines advances on the ground despite their slow pace. Today your forces are moving forward. They face fierce fighting but there aare gradually gains. Every meter that Ukraine Forces gains is a meter that russia loses. Meanwhile u. S. Lawmakers have given the green light to a batch of military aid for ukraine. On thursday they overwhelmingly passed a bill that approved 300 million in new assistance. That was one of several spending bills that passed the house but does nothing to prevent a looming Government Shutdown. Salma abdelaziz has been following these developments in ukraine. Lets go back to this unannounced visit from well, publicly unannounced visit from the nato secretarygeneral to kyiv. Do you think that will bring any breakthroughs in the provision of ammunition and how long might that take . I think it is more about the show of solidarity at this time which is so important to president zelenskyy when he is facing criticism lets say for the process of the counteroffensive so far, for the slow pace of the offensive thus far, particularly among republican lawmakers in the United States. So Jens Stoltenberg the nato secretarygeneral showing up in the capital saying we stand with you, we are with you, and there is more aid coming. He mentioned of course those about 2. 5 billion in Ammunition Support that is on its way to ukraine. That gives that boost that president zelenskyy needs. But as you played in that sound bite, the key word is gradual. Because months into this counteroffensive, we have not seen if major victory on the ground. Nothing has been up ended here. It is indeed gradual. It is inch by inch a ground war. Latest of course is all along that southern front, that is the key area for kyivs troops where they are trying to push towards the land bridge if you will that connects crimea to the other russia occupied region in recent weeks. They claimed a couple different villages, towns, settlements. And abnext major step is to tak the south of zap, strategic hub for russia. But i have to emphasize just the challenges they face on the ground. You are talking about lines of defensive positions, back to back antitank systems, trenches, i mean, all of this that has to again inch by inch be fouts by ght by ukrainian fo. Weve heard stories of ukrainian children forcibly removed from their homes and taken to russia be an effort to bring them back . This is an Interesting Campaign launched this week by Ukrainian State Television called if you know tell. Freedom tv again a state Network Plans to run stories about some 20,000, there are 20,000 children ukraine says that have been forcibly displaced, taken away from their families, sent to russia. So this state Television Network will be running stories, videos, pictures. And it also has a Telegram Channel. Ukrainian Officials Say already on that Telegram Channel there is a russian audience, there is a significant number of russian people on that Telegram Channel who want to help, who want to report on these children. But dont know how or are afraid of consequences. So they have promised anonymity if anyone comes forward. You have to remember just how much of an issue this is. Of course for ukraine, were talking about 20,000 children, were talking about something that president zelenskyy has promised to resolve to bring those children home, take being about something that etd will the icc to issue an Arrest Warrant against president putin. So willing to see ukraine directly appeal to russians to try to bring these kids home. Salma, thank you so much.
