Breaking news, fbi agents shoot and kill a selfdescribed mega trump or who they say made a threats against President Biden. Vice president harris Attorney General garland, and other singled out by the former president. Also, the georgia d a, fani willis, cnn has learned when she has her say next week, shes expected to seek more than a dozen indictments in her Election Interference Probe of donald trump, the former president. Also tonight, a live report from our. You see it there. Walls of flame sweeping the island. At least six people have already been killed. Good evening, everyone john king here tonight, sitting in for anderson. Breaking news tops are. Elliott killing of a utah men of by fbi ages tried to arrest him that and the contents of the governments charging documents, which are frankly beyond chilling. Page after page of Craig Robertson social media postings, describing, at times in lurid, graphic detail, who he would allegedly kill, and how. Cnns Shimon Prokupecz joins us now with a much more. Senior Law Enforcement analyst, former fbi did pd director, intermediate. Shimon, walk us through exactly what happened today. Certainly, a lot of concern given that the president was coming to utah, and that set off a whole chain of events. First, the suspect here, Craig Robertson, on monday, the fbi saw that he posted a message on facebook, saying that the president was coming to utah. Basically, it was time for him to take action. He wrote, i hear bidens coming to utah, Digging Out My Old Gillies suit. This is Camouflage Outfit that you see there. Cleaning the dust of the am 24 sniper rifle. He says welcome, buffoon inchief. They were ready. Seeing this post, the fbi decided it was time to move in and take him off the street. This is a man they had been monitoring since march. Because of other threats that he had posted, most significant, what really started all of this, the threat he posted against the Manhattan District Attorney here in new york city. The alvin bragg. Hes been investigating the former president , donald trump. So, he posts this facebook message about wanting to, essentially, come to new york city, and kill the d. A. The fbi gets alerted to this posting, that is what starts this investigation back in march. They start doing surveillance on him. They even go over to talk to him, in march, they approach him. They see him. Hes wearing a trump hat. They talk to him. Hey, were on to you. Whats going on. He then lists threats against the fbi. Those agents who came to his home. So, this goes on for several months. Finally, today, this morning, the fbi moving in. Out of concern, with the president visiting utah, and what this man was saying he was planning, they decided to move in. There was a confrontation. He pointed a gun on them. And then they say they shot and killed him. Remarkable. Andrew mccabe, listening there, shimon, walking through the threats this men made. Graphic and specific. Help us with context. When youre the Vice President , the Attorney General, the president , the manhattan d. A. , how does it fit in the context of other Public Officials you threaten over the years . Sure, john, people say angry things about political leaders every day. On social media. And those statements are typically completely protected by the first amendment. What makes this individual different, he is articulating graphic, specific, violent threats. Thats what initiate the fbi investigation. In the course of that investigation, he rebuffs all efforts to speak to him, and then he starts to threaten the fbi agents who came out to his house. He continues to make, essentially, Death Threats against alvin bragg, kamala harris, joe biden, gavin newsom. And shows actual proof of his ability to do so. Hes posting photographs of nine assault weapons, someplace in his residents, presumably. He says he has ugly suit and a sniper rifle, and then posted a photograph of himself with a guilty suit and a sniper rifle. This was a very logical investigation of somebody who is escalating along that cycle of potential violence, the fbi finally had to step in, knowing that they conflict with the president of the United States might be in the offing. And you have the unfortunate result of that encounter today. Help us understand how Law Enforcement deals with this. Nobody is directly tying the former president to this. In the charging documents, the fbi does include one threat posted online, in which the man he refers himself to as a, quote, mega trumper. You cant ignore the overlap of the people he was threatening with people the former president has gone after in speeches in his own online posts. Number one, how do you Connect The Dots between free speech and potential threats, what does long forsman do about that . Its really hard, john. Theyre in such a tough spot now. The fbi, dhs, other Law Enforcement entities, they are monitoring all kinds of extremist rhetoric, threatening rhetoric, online, every single day. Their jobs to figure out who is an actual threat, and who are the rest of the people who are just boasting or chest pounding, whatever the doing online. That is not an exact science. Its something they literally have to monitor every day. Well also say, this is a perfect example of a case that shows how responsible, careful, political leaders, of both parties, or very careful not to engage in this sort of violent rhetoric and targeting speech that we hear from donald trump very frequently. The reason is, the most extreme supporters of those political leaders, and certainly those who follow donald trump, we have seen, will actually follow through on some of these comments. We know that from the january 6th people who showed up on the capitol on january 6th. Many of them said, we came because donald trump told us. This person is a perfect example of what happens when someone like donald trump encourages this sort of rhetoric, targets people online, some of his most extreme supporters get that targeting message, and theyre prepared to act upon it. That is deadly dangerous. Shimon prokupecz, enter mccabe, appreciate your time tonight. Thank you so much. Separately, cnn has learned the Fulton County d. A. , fani willis, recently received additional security protection. Other sources also telling us, they expect her to seek more than a dozen criminal indictments next week. That, of course, in her probe of Election Interference of the former president. Cnns paula reid has more on those two stories as well, as a new documents surfacing in the jacks mitt federal investigation. Paula, lets start with the Fulton County district attorney. What are you learning about what she is expected to present to the grand jury . Fani willis long running investigation into efforts to overturn the Election Results in georgia appears to be coming to a head next week. We expect that, over the course of likely two days next week, she will present her case to a regular grand jury that can vote on indictments. Weve learned that shes contemplating charges that include conspiracy, racketeering, and rico. Again, these are state level charges. This case might look a little bit different than what weve seen at the federal level. John, the biggest question a lot of people have, of course, will the former president be charged . We dont know for sure. Even his own attorneys have said, they expect he will be indicted in georgia next week. Polarized, we also have this new internal Trump Campaign memo, from december of 2020, obtained by the New York Times. What details do we get here about this plot to overturn the election . This is the missing piece in terms of understanding the roadmap that trump and his allies laid out to try to overturn the election of the election. This specific memo was offered by pro trump attorney, kenny cheese borrow, also coconspirator number five in the trump indictment, by the Special Counsel last week. And in this memo, chesebro lays out a strategy to try to subvert the electoral process, by installing the slates of Fake Electors, and then designing a plan where the Vice President could count those votes. This has been mentioned in the indictment, but never publicly reported. Paula reid, grateful for that reporting. Thanks so much. Joining us now to discuss in more detail, our cnn legal analyst, Karen Friedman the former Manhattan District Attorney. Lets start with fani willis, youre hearing polaroids reporting. 12 indictments. Does that mean 12 people, in your view, from your experience in the Prosecutors Office . That makes sense that you would indict around 12 people, given what we know about the sweeping nature of her case and her investigation. At a certain point, its hard to put 12 defendants and all of their lawyers at a table in a courtroom. They might get broken up, she might of even broken them up logistically light that. It makes sense there would be an indictment with a round a dozen people charging them with this entire scheme to have a fake elector slate in georgia. You hear the reporting that she has added security. Youve seen the images of the added barriers and such around the Fulton County courthouse, we started the program with this Breaking News story out of utah, very disturbing story. The fbi trying to arrest, ultimately shooting, a gentleman posted online threats against the president. The Attorney General, the Vice President , this former prosecutors perspective, the moment youre trying to do your job, and all of this. It doesnt help that donald trump puts these threats out over and over and over again. It starts, january 6th, everybody who stormed the capitol felt they were following his lead. He didnt stop them, 487 minutes. In fact, at 2 24 in the afternoon, he tweeted another tweet that sort of exacerbated. Look at alvin bragg, he posted a picture of himself holding a baseball hat baseball bat, next to alvin braggs head. And then he claims, oh, it was not a threat. I was just advertising for American Made baseball bats. Nobody believes that. Weve seen the tweet that he did the day after he was released from custody in the most recent indictment, the chan six indictment, all come after you if you come after me, whatever that phrase was. These are the Dog Whistle Calls to his followers. They know what hes asking for, they know their threats. Theyre all laughing and everybodys face, we cant stop him. The people like this extreme person who got into the confrontation with the fbi today, theyre hearing the message from donald trump. Its scary, its terrifying, it has to stop. Hopefully, judge chutkan will put a stop to it at this hearing this week. Whats your campaign on this Campaign Memo obtained by the New York Times . Kenneth chesebro, an attorney, putting together this Fake Electors plot. He voices skepticism himself that this is legally viable. As a political reporter, it tells me they were sustaining selves, anything they could do to keep the challenge is going. It injects with building an Election Interference case for anyone else building an Election Interference case, whats the legal significance of an attorney saying this might not passed a monster . Yeah, the memo is amazing, theres this juxtaposition in there, on the one hand, he says this is a bold move that might not pass the muster of the supreme court. He also says, an important strategy is we have to make this business as usual, make this routine. He is signaling to them, he knows that this isnt going to fly. Its the roadmap for this, literally, a crime. Its important for jack smith, it gives a roadmap for the prosecutors, in terms of what theyre thinking was, how theyre going to go about it. It takes away the he said she said in any trial when you have to you have a witness who says, soandso told me such and such. You dont need. Here, you have a piece of paper that wasnt exactly are thinking, exactly what he wanted to do, and what hes telling people to do. A pretty critical piece of evidence. So many new developments, on a daily basis, hard to keep track of them. Weve learned the Special Counsel took the extraordinary step of bringing a subpoena to twitter, for Donald Trumps twitter. What does that tell you . Its very common today, for prosecutors, to do that. So many people are on social media, thats just something you do. Clearly, his truths or tweets or whatever their call, his social media postings, are central to the case. Some people would say, why do you need to subpoena that information from twitter, if you have those messages already . You have to remember, a prosecutor has to prove their case beyond a reasonable doubt. One thing they have to prove, donald trump, in fact, is the person who posted those posts. You cant just assume or ask the jury to assume that its him. We have to still prove it when prosecutors. Youll also get other information, aside from that, when you get information back from social media company, youll get drafted messages or the dms and that kind of stuff. The digital trail. Least called the paper trail. This is the digital trail. Exactly. The bread crumbs. Karen, appreciate your insights. Cnns Veronica Miracle is there. Its like an apocalypse. People are running for their lives. Horror stories from what should be paradise, lawrence and her cousin said they fled their home in the haina on my, we saving their grandfather and their grandmothers ashes. I still dont know where my Little Brother is. I dont know where my stepdad is. Everyone i know, in lahaina, their homes have been burnt down. Her cousin says their family home burned down in front of them, the flames coming so fast, they had only minutes to act. We saw the smoke start about a block away from her house, this was maybe 3 30, 4 00. By 5 30, our house was gone. Everything weve ever known was gone. Our church, our schools, every single memory that we had in that household, everything was gone. In the blink of an eye. This is how lahaina should look, a charming, hawaiian town, rich in history and tourism. Front street exploded in flames. This is how this man founded this morning. What i went and started to evacuate, i went back to just check to see if the house was on fire, but i was standing at the street looking at my house, and i couldnt see my whole house. Because of the smoke. He rushed from his home to front street, where he had a gallery for 23 years. As i begin walking that way, there is a Historic Building on front street in dickinson, the old baldwin house, the roof was on fire. I started taking a video of it, because i was amazed that there were no fire trucks there. Roughly 100 miles to the south, Hurricane Dora is helping fan strong winds over the islands, with gusts up to 80 miles per hour. Knocking out cell towers and 911 service. Hospital system on bowie, they are overburdened with burn patients. People are suffering from inhalation. The reality is, we need to fly people out of maui to give them burn support. This woman says she barely escape her burning home. But fears not all of her neighbors did. I know for a fact, people did not get out. When we were pulling away, theres quite a few Homeless People in the area, people who are just not able, you dont have access to vehicles. Other victims jumped into the ocean to escape the flames. The coast guard said it rescued 12 people from the waters off lahaina. Survivors thankful to be alive, even as their hometown and its history has changed forever. Straight out of a movie. I dont wish this on anyone. Please, pray for lahaina. Veronica miracle joins us now, i dont really been on the ground and now a short, time wouldve you seen . John, from the moment that we came in on the plane, you could see the smoke on the island. Of course, feel the turbulence, an incredibly bumpy ride getting in. You could see how windy it is here. One of the three fires that are burning, right behind me there in the distance, you can the smoke here. Right now im about 30 minutes from lahaina, the areas that has been impacted the most thousands of people are stranded there. At this marina, all afternoon, weve seen people volunteers distributors bringing pallets of supplies. Water, food, dog food anything you can imagine, even bedding, to some of the boats. Some of these boats here mid were expedition boats. Taking people out go whale watching. Right now, i spoke to a captain of one of those boats, she said that they have been authorized by the county to go out and go all the way around. Im gonna show you in the distance there, i think it already went off, this is the path that they would take, going all the way around the island. All the way to the lahaina is closed. Because these votes are so big, they cant even land in an area they need to pass off the supplies. One of the captains of the Expedition Trips told me that there are so many unknowns. They have to figure it out as they go. About a six hour roundtrip, theyre hoping to bring some people back to safety here. Because all the Cell Communications have been down, towers are down, the communication to get supplies out. And get people back here to safety. John . Veronica miracle, thank you so much. Lets get some more now from captain brycecaptain bryce with the rescue effort. Captain breaks, grateful for you taking the time to talk to us. I understand you spent much of the overnight hours, out in your vessel, at the request of the coast guard, in case they needed help rescues. Tell us what you witnessed . We headed down there, checked in with the coast guard, and ran the boat up to lahaina. Where the first thing we saw was where a fire line that went up the mountain. And right at the edge of the fire, line probably a tornado of flame and smoke. The smoke got thicker and thicker and thicker, to the point where us as a collective crew, i dont know that we can go much farther. And were not there yet. Fortunately, the wind had switched just enough to where the smoke let a Slide Underneath It we got up to where the location where the request was made. We got up there. It was wild. It was watching the entire town burn from the ocean. All structures along the shoreline were fully engulfed. Watching fuel tanks and other things that were blowing up. It was crazy. We stood by to help the coast guard, to try to get, at one point, there was 100 people that had tried to escape the fire by running into the ocean. When we got there, approximately 50 in a location we were trying to evacuate them from. It was very difficult, our boats cant go in as shallow as it was. And the people were stuck on the beach, they dont want to swim out into the blackness. Through a cloud of smoke. We had to get a couple other boats involved, the deal on our enforcement boat, and one of the for many other vessels was out there as well. They put Safety Swimmers and emts, one of which works for trilogy, they jumped on board. The zodiac, the zodiac went into shallow waters. They could go, then the two people jumped off, with four fords. Swim in, and started to collect the bystanders throughout the course of the evening, or through the night i guess, morning, we were able to get more resources down to the beach area through that video you first showed, the one that i took, theres ems vehicles coming down through their, to access the beach and try to remove the rest of the bystanders. They are right about there, where that big flame is. Just to the right of that. Thats where the people were on the beach, yeah, it was pretty intense, seeing that. Walk through the challenges for us, from your view, in the sense, listening to what youre describing, which is just out of this world, and then the images we see as well, yours and other images, you talked about the efforts to bring the resources again. Are there enough resources on maui to handle this disaster . From your sense, are they making the necessary adjustments to coordinate them and all that . I dont think anybody is really ready for this. If you talk to any firefighter, i dont think theyll tell you, once something gets going, when you have 70 and 80 mileperhour winds pushing that fire, you cant stop it. Theres not enough water out there in any amount of fire trucks. Once it gets to a certain size, there is no way you can control it. So, at that point, theyre going to have to pull back. Safety for as many people as they can, Hold Everything back. There is nothing you can do. Were watching flames, like i said, the first area was aflame smoke tornado those 200 feet across. Winds, im, sure excess of 100 miles per hour. So, what do you do at that point . For us, as a collective crew, at one point, i dont know if i can were getting blacked out. We cant see, were running on navigational aids only. Our instrumentation. Were making Radio Contact with other boats, and using sonar and radar and everything else. What is your expectation now . Do you expect the hours ahead, are you gonna be back out there time to rest our people telling you get out as soon as you can . Any sense of what the hours ahead look like . Well, right now, i believe that there is an evacuation of some bystanders and wounded. Like i said, you hear it all, and i was talking to a couple of guys that work for trilogy. They are trying to bring people from an area known as black rock up to harbor, to bypass a bunch of the burned out town. Right now, theyre not calling the smaller boats back in, for resources at this time. I am on standby. And were all waiting, everybody came home and tried to get a few hours nap. We passed coworkers, theyre coming down as we are coming in. Its ongoing. Kevin bryce, thanks again. Thank you. Just ahead for us, republican candidates are descending on iowa for its state fair. Its called all over the map, ill be traveling around the country, giving you a grounds i view of the president ial election, from the perspective of voters in the key places, in the swing states. What motivates them . Whos gaining, or losing, their trust . And why . In the next few months, im going to talk mostly to Republican Voters about the former president. Is his nomination inevitable, despite his many legal and character controversies, or is there sufficient demand for change. And a new face for the party. We start our series in iowa, because thats where the race really begins. And the republican president ial field is scheduled to descend on mass to the iowa state fair, beginning tomorrow. A defining moment for those campaigns, just five months until the first in the nation vote. Business is booming. Typical, residential install. Midwest solar workload now running at 15 to 20 installations a month. We lost money the first year when business, Regatta Make Money in our second year. Small system, ten panels. This man is the ceo and says, yes, give President Biden some credit. Absolutely. There are lots of grants available to business owners. The tax credits. He is a lifelong iowa republican, who would prefer that Tax Credit Money spent on a border wall. And hopes for a donald trump comeback. Do i think that donald trump s perfect . No. I think, i dont, personally, im not a big fan of who he is and what he does and how he lives. It but i think the decisions in the things he did for a country were good. The family is living both the american dream, and the american divide. A business his father started in his basement 42 years ago, it now employs 80 people. Clients, coast to coast. Im a lot older than you. Dad and three sons are republicans, and trump supporters. Two daughters, are democrats. We saw, come we still love. We visited as trump was indicted as a special second time by the Special Counsel. Why are they attacking him so hard . Why theyre going after him so hard . Is everybody believe that everything that happened was exactly the way that the government sling it out today . I dont. The friends and family around the table dont watch and dont trust cnn. There is reverence for Ronald Reagan here. Listen, the trust is gone. Reagans optimism replaced by trumps grievances. We gotta find our own way to take care of ourselves. Reagans disdain of big government, replaced by trumps distrust of just about everything. I think its still questions about the 2020 election. A lot of people agree with him. Criticism of the trump prosecutions. Nothing about that deal is the american way. I dont think. And this. If you think the United States should be supporting ukraine in the fight against putin, raise your hand. Nobody . You dont have to be that smart to put and Connect The Dots. So, is the war to cover sins committed . You can cover your tracks . Too much money thats been thrown over there. You think all the nato countries would do what biden told them to do because hes trying to cover up some hunter biden business deal . It all depends on how zelenskyy, how much dirt he has on biden to keep the money coming. Thats out there. How do you trust, when you know the government has shut down facebook, and shut down twitter, and told them to not show certain new stories. A few days here makes clear, trumps grip is very strong. Roughly half of the party wants to move on. They see their first in the nation vote as the best chance to derail him. The growth around des moines is stunning, in the suburbs are trumps kryptonite. I dont appreciate the negativity. Jocelyn taylor is a single mother, who manages construction projects. Tim scott intrigues, or nikki haley too. Sometimes, ron desantis. Theres a lot of kick around him. Is that a technical term . This woman is also a single mom, says desantis is your current favorite. He hasnt closed the sale. She is done with trumps gop. I see the party as the party of personal responsibility. For this man to still be on the national stage, representing the republican party, is very troubling to me. This woman live a few miles apart but dont know each other. Both voted for trump twice after supporting someone else in the 2016 caucuses. Both want someone new this time. Both think shop now, but in the end, rally friends around one trump alternative. I think the moderates need to band together. Its a nobrainer. Sioux city is 200 miles from the des moines suburbs. Trump is much stronger here. Did you caucus in 2016 . I did. For who . I caucused for trump. Why . He does have charisma. Whether you like him or not, he does. I liked his policies. This attorney is a democrat, turned trump voter. She thinks he should have honored the 2020 Election Results. I think we need to get rid of biden, i think we need to get rid of trump. We need to move on. [applause] these two are sioux city explores fans. Mcafee, not scouting the new candidate. You think donald trump is an honest and trustworthy person . Yes. Yes. This is warmup season. Five months until iowa votes. Five months until republicans divided over trump make a defining choice. First, my thanks to those good people you see in the piece, theyre a lot of them dont trust cnn. We try to build a relationship, its important to me over the next five months, as we see how they vote. Now i want to use my old friend here for a flashback. You heard about the talks, the trump supporters, think the crowded field helps him. Trump critics think of crowded field helps him. A flashback, remember 2016 . Trump was second in iowa to ted cruz, that he went on to win New Hampshire and the rest is literally history. Look at the map right here. Where was donald trump weakest in 2016 . Thats the key point you get from spending a week and iowa. Look here, around the des moines suburbs. That marco rubio, iowa city. Thats 2016. That seven years ago. Let me be clear, trump is stronger in iowa now that he was when he placed second seven years ago. But, if you look at the changes in iowa over these years, keep that up there, lets bring this in here, lets turn this off. Lets bring in some changes here. Look at this Population Growth in iowa. Number one, the overall state Population Changed, the deeper the colors, that means the population is rising. Let me zoom in right here on the highest Population Change. Lets bring this back out and take a look at this. The highest Population Change is where . Des moines in the suburbs. Out here in iowa city. Thats where the population is growing. New voters, 60,000 people just in metro des moines. Not all voters, not all republicans. Out of those 60, 000, a lot of them are. That makes them makes consider, that look at the growth of the population here. Then go back in time 2016. Where trump was weakest is the Population Growth. You have to say, today, talking to republicans on the ground, voters, strategists, smart people who understand the state, right now, trump is a prohibitive favorite. If you are going to stop him, you need to do it early. The best hope would be iowa. Trump is very, very popular in New Hampshire. Then it goes on and on. How would you rank this today . Especially after spending a week with those Iowa Republicans last week . It is improbable. Today, if it were today, that anyone could stop trump. Especially when like, seven years ago, you had so many candidates. Theres a debate in a couple of weeks. A lot of candidates expected, perhaps, to drop out by the time we get to iowa. Improbable, you could beat him, especially for today, but it is impossible . No. Its a narrow path, but the math is right here in the des moines suburbs and beyond, which is why im honored, privileged actually, to spend the next five months on the road, going back to those great people, asking them, still there . Changing your mind . And tracking it as we go. Well start in iowa, then well move on later after we get a republican nominee to the general election, were gonna do this over the next 15, 16 months. See the country, have some fun, hopefully. Learn a lot. Coming up for us, cnn exclusive. Remarkable new video, you cant miss this from the front lines of ukraines counteroffensive against russia. Up close and frightening look from an area of ukraines front lines that no reporter had seen, until our correspondent, Nick Paton Walsh, Thisnew Reporting comes on a day that theres also been more Russian Missile strikes. Two are dead, in zaporizhzhia, after a Missile Attack today on a residential area of that city, including as you can see there, a church. The attack comes a day after at least nine were killed, and over 82 injured, after two Russian Missiles struck a residential building east there of pokhara. Ukraine say that attack seem to target rescue workers, thats a war crime. If its true. The battle has become fierce, as ukraine pushes its counteroffensive in the south. Nick paton walsh was there, and has startling new video, we warn you, some of what youre about to see is beyond graphic. The brutal work here, the world has not seen but wants its results. From the west, they have words and weapons of support but out here, it is them alone. And searing heat, cloaked in the last. In the Southern Counteroffensive near or rakhiv, ukraine has the initiative. Yet they have to shoot their way forward round by round. [sound of artillery] the russians are just past the building on the horizon an d thats keep moving guys, they are very anxious. We are the first journalists to to reach this part of ukraines Counteroffensive Push South towards robert tina. That tank was spotted by the russians and now we are moving fast out of here because they are expecting returned fire. The losses from the early assault evident, they destroyed u. S. Supplied bradley armored vehicle. This, does this tankers are moving forward to fire russian positions where they say a beginning to look in peril as Ukraine Southern counteroffensive pushes forward. The 15th National Guards have lost many friends here but also grained ground. It has been incredibly tough but some faces that we saw over the past week have brightened. It has got closer. Some of the assessment of their fight and the tools given towards it great here, they are being expected to do things no nato army would attempt with equipment they would scoff at. They obviously travel in with tires so threadbare, no american soldier would be expected to drive it. They have no time for assessments that they are failing. [speaking in a nonenglish language] [speaking in a nonenglish language] and that underestimation is visible here and then there is town of orikhiv pummeled by the main problem, russian Air Superiority and a half ton bombs that they drop. At any moment, it may not matter how much cover that you have. [speaking in a nonenglish language] we take a cover in a basement, one day 20 rockets hit in as many minutes. The way now is for another missile to come in and land. The smell of death haunts the rubble, where entire lives have been torn through. This was the main humanitarian aid point of the town and weeks this is where the locals would hid from hit, you can smell the explosives in the air. [speaking in a nonenglish language] we can cover in a basement, one, day 20 rockets hit and as many minutes. The wait now is what they think is another missile to come and land. This the rubble where entire lives have been torn through. This was the main humanitarian aid point of the town, and weeks ago this was where the remaining locals would be heading out and getting shelters from airstrikes. But it has taken a direct hit. And when you see people lost their lives when this explosion happened. You can still smell the explosive in the air. [speaking in a nonenglish language] in moscows warped world of targeting, it is these men, the military medics, who feel hunted. The underground world in which they live is hidden, as their last two Triage Points have been bombed. And in the three hours a day that they spend above ground, this is what happens. This is rare footage of their frontline rescues. [speaking in a nonenglish language] the painkillers clearly not enough. Treatment given it up to 100 miles an hour. Over bumpy shield roads, it seems miraculous anyone makes it. In the back of his armored vehicle, everyone has. These transfers are perilous, their vehicles bunch together. Perhaps visible to russian jets. Sometimes they dont all come back. On friday, fellow medic andrei, aged 33, was hit by artillery. They buried him monday. [speaking in a nonenglish language] [speaking in a nonenglish language] down here, death is far too close. And they seem to shut it out. [speaking in a nonenglish language] [speaking in a nonenglish language] they need the war to end in months though, not years. Before nothing but dust is left. Nick paton walsh joins us now from the frontlines, nick, just a breathtaking harrowing look at the action on the frontlines. What are these Frontline Troops telling you that they need most right now . Air power, really. Yes, they are finding the russians ahead of the paratroopers often to be well dug in, to be trained, to be willing to hold those positions and able to do so. And we have heard over the, week we really spent with that unit, how they fluctuate with success and have left them at times exasperated. And at times pretty upbeat. And they do appear to have moved forward. But it is the russian Air Superiority. We have ton bombs that you saw that left startling craters, that causes, and frankly, to run to the basement and not know whether they can, move whether they can advance, what they can do to lose friends on a daily basis at times. That is fundamentally moscows advantage here. And it is something which until ukraine gets their ukrainian president glimmers top so positively just hours ago. Absolutely critical reporting by you and your, team thanks so much. Next, we talk with someone forced to leave maui we will hear tonight to find out whether the wildfire burning through her neighborhood streets your home. Returning tonight, the wildfires from now, we managed to connect with the mother of three forced along with her husband to flee her home. This is a meteorologist for local tv station kitv, and she joins us now from elsewhere on the islands. Really, grateful for your time under these terrible circumstances. First, just tell us what was happening that made you flee, what happened to it to you and your family . I was in the subdivision the very first subdivision that was evacuated. What you are looking at here is lahaina, a whole separate fire that is developed yesterday, in fact, yesterday we had several different hotspots on this mountain you see behind me, it is called it was the first, it was the highest one up in a linda. And then lower down into kula. There was another hot spot, lower down near kihei, near , another fire developed late last night. And when you are seeing there with complete devastation is over in lahaina. For me, i smelled smoke around 1 am in the morning. It was the very first, like, very beginning, the first fire that was developed. And by 3 00 we got a call from our neighbor saying get out. Look at the window, and it was red, just grab some stuff, grab the kids, my , and got out of there. Do you have any sense . Now what are you hearing . Or is there any way to get information about the condition of your home, your neighborhood . Yes, we have been able to actually drive back into the neighborhood several times. Yesterday it was up and down, we would, hear, it is kind of, safe to go in, there we went, and grab some heirlooms, just to be safe. And then you would hear the next hour, oh, the fire is coming down the golgi, make sure you dont go in there. The neighbor is crying and fleeing again, and this morning we felt pretty good about, it you know . We woke, up the house was still, there we got a picture of our home from a friend who said, oh, its looking good. Winds are down a notch since yesterday, but you can probably still hear them, they are still pretty strong here on the island of maui. But just a little while ago our neighbors said they saw 15 foot high plains on a property right above where we are, and the fire was, again, encroaching on our subdivision. So it really is this touch and go wait and see type of situation. So help us with your expertise, you are a trained meteorologist, you just mentioned the winds and other factors. Number one, did you see this coming . Did you see the conditions building where this was possible . And after you get through that, what about where are we going . You mentioned the winds now, you are looking around, do you see anything that helps or do you worry about the things that are coming in the hours ahead that will hurt . Its a really good question, you know, this weekend i was on the air doing weather, and we had already posted the, or at least told people that, you know, dora, the hurricane, category four at the time, was casting to the south. Very strong hurricane, its a low pressure system. To the north of the islands we had high pressure. So between those two pressure systems, the gradient was getting really tight. We knew were expecting really strong winds. At the, time the National Weather service was saying that gusts upwards of 50 miles per hour. So dry conditions, low humidity, really high winds, all of those things are the recipe for really rapidly spreading fires. And all you need is a little spark. When you have winds that strong, what else happens . Power lines go down. What happens when a power line goes down . Sparks fly. And it was just a recipe for disaster. So we knew that that was possible, the public had been warned of the possibility. We just didnt know how strong the winds were going to be. What ended up happening is we got gusts into the 80s. And when you get gusts into the 80s, that is a hurricaneforce wind that is happening. Its not sustained, but its still, you know, something that cannot you off your feet. Thank you for your, time especially under these extraordinary circumstances, really very much appreciated, and we wish you the best of luck in the days of head. Luck in the days of head. Up next, an answered prayer,. They just seemed like people that were just happy with themselves and had true results. Since being on golo, i truly feel like im back to the best me i can be. Try golo.
