High pressure systems to the north. What it is doing is putting the squeeze on the Hawaiian Islands and allowing those winds out of the east to gust. This is imperative. The fire that impacted the west side of maui, the location, the economic hub of hawaii where all the resorts and businesses are generally located, where people go as tourists to visit, well, the fire ran out of room to burn. It literally moving into the ocean as it had nothing else to char. It was incredibly harrowing. Adjectives use like dyer and apocalyptic. You can see exactly why with some of these first aerial visuals that we are getting. Now, everyone in hawaii knows how to handle a hurricane. Everyone knows how to handle volcano as well. As difficult as it can be. This caught people off guard. As a meteorologist, we were watching Hurricane Dora slide well south of the island chain. It was not a concern for us. We thought it was fish food. Literally not impacting land. The fact is that it created a phenomenon with the wins that no one else could ever seen and it caught people off guard in the middle of the night when people were sleeping. So, you can imagine just how terrifying those moments were overnight when we started to see those little flashpoints. The hotspots on Satellite Imagery that meteorologist look at, we started to see those flareup. That was a concern. We immediately started to recognize that there was a problem. Social media videos started pouring in. Then we started to learn about Communications Going down. 911 not becoming available for residents over the western side of the island of maui. Think how concerning and how terrifying those moments mustve been for people not being able to reach out for help. Well, that is what people had to endure. Thank you so much. Quentin, you suspended operations to use your Helicopter Fleet to help get food, water, and supplies into areas of maui that are the hardest hit. Tell us what your staff is seeing in these hardest hit areas . A loja. Good afternoon. Yes, it was a devastating night. I dont think many people slept across the state. We canceled our tourism operation. We are partnering with the state and focusing on taking care of the people that need we have authorization to use one of the airports closer so we can bring food and water and support. Helicopters do have versatility to land, you know, different locations like a golf course or smaller airports on the west side but seeing it from the air it just doesnt do it justice. It is absolutely tragic, devastating. Several coworkers have lost their homes. We have Business Partners and their businesses have burned down. Tears keep pouring and pouring from peoples faces as we work through the morning and realize what we have in front of us. Tell us about how your own staff is been personally impacted by this. I know you are trying to help locate some of your teammates in these impacted areas who might not have even had electricity or comms since yesterday. Anybody that has been to hawaii knows hawaii. We are all family. We all love and care for each other so much. It is devastating not being able to get a hold of some of your coworkers. You cannot stop thinking about it. We actually have a friend that has gone through in the areas that you are able to access and gone and knocked on doors and got some verification that people are okay but the fires are still going. The wins are still there. There are still ashes and hotspots. We just have to be careful. Its very limited. The road from the airport, the main airport in maui, they call it the poly road, its a two lane road that has been closed and there is limited access in and out. Limited cell coverage. No internet. They havent had power in 24 hours. It is really hard and it is going to take probably days before we know everybody is okay. Helicopters can land in just about any terrain although, obviously, it is dangerous, these are particularly dangerous conditions, have you ever seen anything like this as a Helicopter Pilot . I am specifically not a pilot. Im the president of the company. We were landing in a couple of airports and safety is our number one priority. We do a full risk assessment. We evaluate the wind and everything safety wise and we will not go if it is not safe. Safety is our number one priority. We will never put employees or anybody at risk before we do that and that is why we are landing at the designated Airport Versus some of these other spots. As of now, it is because it is the safety is saved us thing to do. When you think these horrible conditions are going to get better . I know you said earlier, these devastating winds, from earlier, you hope these will alleviate the scene because the hurricane is moving away. As the murder hurricane is moving away, so will the wind. The High Pressure to the north, it is blowing like this, the low pressure, the hurricane to the south, it is blowing like this. So, all that wind funneling through the islands and we had the hotspots in the hotspots showed up and then, all of a sudden, we had video and pictures and it is a devastating event. Block after block of homes just gone reminding you, reminding me, of something from southern california. 82 is the highest gust that we saw that is an enormous amount of wind when you consider how far away the hurricane actually is. At this point, 800 miles away. So, yes, i mean, hurricanes can hit hawaii and do and we do have winds of 60, 70, 80 sometimes but this was just a dry event. There goes the Hurricane Category four. Look at how far away the honolulu islands are. It is going to be a brittle afternoon and evening. Some of the pictures we are seeing coming in are devastatingly painful. They really are. When you see the pictures that we only had this morning and we thought that they were just hopefully burning trees, but in fact, they were not. They were burning homes. They were hotspots of what was left of the home. So, there goes the storm. It is going to be a much less oppressive storm in a couple of days and the more it moves farther and farther away. Tonight will be 40, tomorrow will be 30 and by the weekend the wins could be 10. What you would expect from the trades. It tell us the status of what the National Guard is focusing on right now as these fires continue to burn out of control in maui. Thanks for having me. Theyre assisting maui county and hawaii county. Two islands. So, i maui county we have 39 personnel assisting the Maui Police Department with Traffic Control and roving security. Right now the number one goal for both counties and the hawaii National Guard is to protect lives. By setting of these roadblocks that is the best way that we can do it. The National Guard is assisting. We have been working 24 hours and are running out of personnel to do it. The hawaii National Guard is assisting them. They are even requesting more personnel for the very near future. The hawaii National Guard is also sending two helicopters to maui. There on the ground right now getting their assignment to head to the upcountry area of maui on the slopes to assist with Fire Suppression of there. They will be carrying 4000 gallon water box buckets. On the big island we have 30 personnel also assisting with Traffic Control in checkpoints. The activeduty army is assisting with Fire Suppression on hawaii island. Hawaiis Lieutenant Governor , who is acting governor because the governor is traveling right now, the Lieutenant Governor has called on the white house to declare a federal emergency. Do second that call . I think that is a great call. She is my boss. So, fema and the federal government has stepped in during our major disasters. This, by far, is one of the worst. Lava in 2014 and 2018. This fire is by far more devastating and quicker. My goodness, in two days the destruction it has cost. This morning when the sun came up, that was the first time maui and the big island of hawaii could see the damage and start to make assessments. We watch the fire move all day yesterday into town and it went north and it went south to every single area and from the south side to the north is completely as i went through this morning i couldnt get as far as i wanted to. There were not roadblocks but there were Telephone Poles across the highway that were burning. I couldnt go past that. Im looking for a couple personnel who are heroes in my mind. I know they were in the middle of fighting this thing last night. Thats less than heard from them. So, unfortunately, i cannot leave where im at. Im at my house. If i leave then the place Down The Street will im just hanging loose down here. I get phone calls from friends and neighbors and people giving me the information i need. Let me ask you, the maui mayor says the number of businesses impacted is going to be very high, what resources will be needed to rebuild do you think . I mean, its hard to say. Most of the people that work on west maui, im guessing maybe 25,000, 30,000 people are going to be homeless. It is because of this fire. That is a wild guess. I have lived in this community for years. Hotels north of us, i dont believe they have been impacted but there are definitely ones that are gone. Our family owns one of the Oldest Hotels in maui and into the state right there in lahaina town and it is completely ashes today. It is heartbreaking. We have not been able to, i mean, honestly, get our thoughts around this thing. We havent personally gone to see what happened yet. It is crazy. The anecdotal stories of people jumping into the ocean, i thought that was nuts to hear that. I see National Guard helicopters going up and down the shoreline right now looking for people, i think. This investigation started in early 21 when trump made this call to georgia secretary of state Brad Raffensperger pressuring him to, quote unquote, find enough votes to flip the state from biden who had legitimately won to trump who had not. So, look, all i want to do is this, i just want to find 11,000 11,780 votes which is one more than we have. We won the state. He had not won the state. Cnn sarah murray joins us live. What we know about these charges . Well, we know she is going to go before grand jury next week. Shes going to seek charges and we expect to receive charges against more than a dozen individuals were involved in a sprawling investigation. She has been looking at a racketeering and conspiracy case which allows her to craft this narrative about what happened around the 2020 election, im not just donald trump was involved but all these other folks were involved whether it had to do with the fake electors scheme, pressuring electorate elections workers, and a number of people who were involved in all of those different schemes are concerned that they could be on the list of people facing charges. Next week you say. Walk us through the possible timeline and how soon we could learn about any actual indictments. There two grand juries that are metering meeting regularly. One meets mondays tuesday. Those witnesses have been told we will give you a 48hour heads up about when you should show up to testify. We should get a little bit of leadtime that gives us a signal of if, you know, is is going before the grand jury on monday, tuesday . Thursday friday . We expect her to take two days to present her case. We should get a sense and know by next week. We are told that the District Attorney is under extra Security Protection now . She has. She has extra Security Protection. Obviously, she has faced a number of threats. She is a black democratic District Attorney in the south. We have already seen the ramp up, of course, around the courthouse. The barriers go up. Weve seen them close the streets. There are concerns about her physical protection. She has long said she feels comfortable with the security around her but clearly there beefing this up as we get into this period where she will make her announcements. Thanks much. This is not the only Major Development today. A newly obtained Court Filing Shows that special counsel jack smith, who is in charge of the federal investigation, obtained a Search Warrant for trumps twitter account. Cnn broke the story. What exactly were prosecutors looking for . We are a little thin on exact details there but we know that prosecutors believed that they would find evidence of a crime in Donald Trumps twitter account. The account that was shut down after january 6th. They believe that, they said it to a judge. A judge agreed. They were at the beginning of this year able to get documents from twitter. The records of trumps twitter account ultimately we did see several tweets in the indictment against the former president that was filed publicly in court last week. We are now seeing what happened in that proceeding before the indictment was filed. Those tweets are from the timer on january 6th but we still do not know the full story because of what is on the court filing is not specifying what theyre looking for their using vague language. Its records related to trumps twitter account. We dont know if theyre looking for other things like direct messages, other pieces of data or metadata that twitter might have. At the very least they were looking for the tweets themselves so they could get them as evidence in the indictment. Twitter officials were given gag order. There were not allowed to tell donald trump about the search. Twitter fought the decision, lost in court. Why do prosecutors think it was important for twitter to not tell trump what was happening . This is a really intriguing ripple of the story that we also do not have a full explanation of but we have this court filing and we have the judge saying in the court, the appeals court, reciting what the judge found. There was reasonable grounds to believe that disclosing the warrant to former President Trump would seriously jeopardize the Ongoing Investigation by giving him an opportunity to destroy evidence, change patterns of behavior, or notify confederates. There was concern it could kill the investigation. Twitter, at a hearing that was sealed in february said, guys, the cat is out of the bag. This special investigation, everyone knows about it. We know theyre looking at term. Why Cannot We Tell Trump that you are seeking this and the Justice Department said twitter does not have the full story. Theyre not presenting the full story. There still information redacted about what they were looking for. So, we just do not know how to put that together right now. We do know that there was real fear that this Search Warrant would somehow set off donald trump in january and february of this year. Thanks to both of you. Lets discuss with sarah fisher, senior media reported axials and former federal prosecutor. When it comes to georgia, we are talking about a potential trump indictment. This does sound as it could be more sprawling. 12 indictments expected. At the end of the day, do you think this will play out any differently than the previous three indictments . Well, it could possibly. As it pertains to twitter, one of the things im curious about is rumor one of the things they are looking for is trying to understand when donald trump was making comments, when he was looking to say things that could quell dissent and the riots going into capitol hill, et cetera. Those are the types of things the metadata that caitlin spoke about that could be in this account. If trump was tipped off he could delete it. You could see why they would want to keep that quiet. In terms of what is coming next and what could be different, on the media front, one of the things we have been tracking is the publics attention to all of these legal challenges and indictments. One of the things we have found is it continues to wane. That is reflected in Donald Trumps finances. Cnn and others have reported that this campaign is bringing less and less money every time a new indictment or legal challenges brought forth because there seems to be Indictment Fatigue at this point. Are you surprised by the scope of what we are expecting to see in georgia . At least a dozen people indicted . You know, im not entirely surprised. Given the length of time, there has been an investigation going on in fulton county. We have seen her Team Investigating all the over the course of eight months. There were court filings, immunity deals, being given to specific fake electors and so on. So, i think she has been building a case for quite some time. From my perspective, im sure there is Indictment Fatigue and the Trump Defense team at this point trying to deal with potentially a fourth indictment at the same time. Its a very challenging situation for any defense. Sarah, twitter was fined 350,000 because it delayed turning over the records to jack smiths team. What you make of that back and forth . Yes, it is interesting. As we know, elon musk has said he would vote for a republican president. He seems to was recited in republicans in some cases. He has also brought democrats onto the platform to do twitter spaces, et cetera. You can imagine he might feel uncomfortable ringing twitter into an investigation against the former president. The one thing i want to know, this is a serious request for personal data. It is very different when a government is trying to her death request that you take down a post or hide or limit an accounts ability to author a post. Asking for the private use the data of a direct message, that is a very different type of request and you can imagine my elon musk and the twitter team would proceed with caution there because being a part of that, one could potentially worry, it might politicize the platform even further. Trump seems to be claiming this violated his First Amendment rights. Is there a legitimate argument there, even if you dont agree with it, is there a legitimate argument . No, there is no legitimate argument. The Search Warrants can be executed. That is what we expect Law Enforcement to do. We expect them to go to a judge and to obtain a Search Warrant if there are records seized. That is what government should be doing. This wasnt a wrist request. This was a lawful order. I will say, as somebody who represents many large companies, it is very unusual for a company To Expend Resources and hire lawyers to try to fight an order, preventing disclosure of materials that are being produced is a result of a lawful Search Warrant. I think, come november 2024, there were 7 million more people who believed that joe biden would be the right leader and i think it is going to be back in 2020, i think its going to be even bigger than that in 2024. There are good economic numbers but in addition to those numbers, gas prices have climbed in weeks. Americans Credit Card Debt just hit a record 1 trillion which im sure you are concerned about. More people are tapping into retirement accounts because of financial struggles, these are clear signs that at least some of the democrats economic plans are not working, dont you think . The republicans are fighting the president every inch of the way. I think when the economics get ground into the politics, people are going to pay a lot more attention to the question of republicans who just want tax cuts for billionaires, they want to help out giant corporations, they are all for monopolists and President Biden, who is doing his best every day, to lower cost for hardworking american families. You talk about childcare. Its talk about that. You and democratic senator tina smith and minnesota have a cnn oped today, you say because pandemic funding for Child Care Centers is set to expire next month, its about to get worse. What is going to happen if congress does not do anything in the program ends . So, if our support for child care, our nationwide support, goes away, about 3. 2 million children are going to lose their childcare spots. There will be Childcare Centers across this country that just close. That is going to have a terrible economic consequence because that is a lot of moms and dads who cannot go to work, who cannot work a full shift because they cannot get adequate childcare. So, we are urging, tina smith and i and others, to say, as the president is talking about Emergency Funding, Emergency Funding for ukraine, Emergency Funding for the various problems that we have seen so far, the key one that we should also be focused on in our economy is childcare. We need to make sure the childcare doesnt just fall over a cliff. We need to put in the federal resources to support that. That is what we need to do in the short term. I just want to say, longterm, America Needs to make an investment in childcare. This is Early Childhood education. This is investing in our children. Do you know where america stands among the 37 richest nations in the world . We are number 33. Think about that. Mexico spends more per child on their children than we do in the United States. Romania spends more on their children. We want to build a strong future , we need to invest in childcare. We want parents to work . We need to invest in childcare. I find it fascinating and distressing how ignored children are in general by congress when it comes to funding Childhood Cancer studies, when it comes to child nutrition, when it comes to day care, and on and on. I do not quite understand why it honestly, i know democrats are more in favor of social Program Spending than republicans in general but this problem does not go away when democrats control all three branches. It consistently goes on. As you noted in your oped, the United States is 33rd out of 37 and spends 13 billion on childcare compared to 712 billion on defense. Why . Yes. You know, i think it is because children just dont have a voice. They dont vote. They dont have Political Action committees. They dont have lobbyists. And yet, investing in our children is how we build a future. You know, we understood this once as a nation. We started investing in Public Schools and we started a kindergarten because we believed back then that kids zero to five were not learning anything. We made that investment in Public Schools because we believed thats how america will build a future. We will have a better educated workforce. We let more people who will be more creative who will invent more things. What we have now learned is those babies, zero to five, they are learning. They need to be in places with lots of welltrained teachers and bright colors and big words and playing with each other. That is so they are ready for school. We have learned that every dollar we spend on a child in those preschool years saves us 7. 00 or later on. We dont have to spend it because children are struggling in school or out of school. Those are investments we need to make longterm. Investing in our children is investing in our future. By golly, its time for us to stand up and say so. This is not the child you want to talk about. The adult child, the adult son of President Biden, hunter biden, republicans on the House Oversight Committee Say that they have identified more than 20 million in payments from foreign sources to the biden family, including hunter biden and their business associates. So far we have not seen any direct evidence pointing to joe biden doing anything illegal and i dont necessarily know everything that is in this but i do wonder on a broader level, the 30,000 foot view of this, people close to joe biden, or people close to donald trump, but im talking about joe biden, they are making tens of millions of dollars because of their closeness to him. That cannot be something that you like. That cannot be something that you are comfortable with. As a phenomena. I always worry about the influence peddlers have in washington regardless of party affiliation. One of the things, as you know, ive spent a lot of my time in Congress Working on is how we bring more ethics and more oversight in general to everything that we do in government. We have got a United States Supreme Court where people take gifts and do not even report them even though the law requires them to report. They somehow think that that is all right. It is not all right. We do not have a set of ethics that apply to the Supreme Court. We have a problem with the revolving door. People come into government and from industry and they write regulations for the people they used to work with and then they leave government and go back to working for the same industry and cashing in on their time in government service, selling off their access to our elected officials. I understand that it is hard for republicans and democrats and independents to say we have got to have a set of ethics that apply to everyone and that means we have got to be willing to say to our friends and to people who are not our friends the same rules apply across the board. We have got to shut down the revolving door. We have got to have ethics rules that apply to everyone.
