Donald trump is bracing for two more indictments. You heard that right . One for special counsel jack smith for efforts to overturn the election, and another in hotlanta for trying to overturn the results in georgia. Yet, that name, that phrase, teflon is one of the oddest juxtapositions in all the politics. His Legals Problem start to pile up. Guess what, so to his poll numbers. Take a look while it is still early, of course, he is crushing the field. Look at the numbers there, the percentages, and noteworthy trend when it comes to his everyone. His fundraising spiked whenever he is charged, or whenever he is indicted, whenever he serene for that matter. Hes already been indicted twice now, and experts expect to have a third for his efforts to overturn the election. Lets take a look at this new revelation everyone, his Political Action committee, look at this number. He has spent more than 40 Million Bucks just this year alone on legal fees. But that in your mind for a second. 40 million, this year alone, and does not even august. The same packed spent much less than half that on lawyers for all of last year. Its kind of like his campaign is almost designed to bankroll his legal fees. Frankly, this will only grow. I want to talk about this now, and all the legal developments with former federal prosecutor jean rossi and just a moment. Everyone, first, i want to go to cnn Justice Jessica snider with the news. Jessica, we have a georgia judge rejected trumps efforts right now to disqualify fani willis, didier down at fulton county. So, what we know how tonight with that case where it stands . Lord, that by the Speaker Court judge was definitely a win for the District Attorney moving forward here. The judge there, when they disregarded these claims the District Attorney should be qualified, the judge really applauded the dea for staying nonpartisan non, pull it, occult throughout this two and a half year investigation. Fani willis does plan to announce whether there will be any indictment against the former president before september 1st. So, right now in georgia, there are currently two Criminal Grand Jury is convened in fulton county. They are meeting several days this week and a District Attorney will either, this week or next, then present her case to that grand jury. So the grand jury will then vote on any indictments, whether it is against trump or any of his associates who tried to overturn the 2020 Election Results in that state. And, laura, what we know is that Law Enforcement authorities in atlanta, they are already prospering. There are Security Measures in place throughout the local courthouse and, Law Enforcement agencies in that state, in that county, they actually observed the scene in miami after the former president was indicted in the classified documents case. So, they are ready for anything that could come down in the next few weeks here in fulton county, georgia, laura. Lets talk about this, jeanne. We think about that, all that she is laid out there. They looked at miami, which of course we know resulted in an indictment. When you look at, this know that she has this promise of, by september 1st, im going to tell you all of the deal is going to be. Is there an indictment moving in georgia . Yes, i want to think of a word named to asean graffiti, reading tea leaves. I like that word. I sleep with the dictionary, by the way. My prediction is this. Probably next thursday, Thursday Next week, or the week after, you will see an indictment from fani willis because that reporter is probably going to testify tuesday of next week and they meet monday and tuesday . And the other tell is that she was out an event saturday or sunday, and when you have a prosecutor that makes a statement that, quote, we are ready to go, i think that is a red flag and loud gong that we are going to be some serious charges. But, i could be wrong. I could be wrong. She was out a Backpack Giveaway for kids to raise money. Shes out in the community already, and then said that the work as accomplished im ready to go. Everybody thought what does this mean with every angles going on. Especially because you cannot look at in a vacuum. Donald trump has got that potentially looming, two indictments, a Superseding Indictment in florida, that is a whole lot to consider, to have the work accomplished already and still have a grand jury subpoena. Well, i think that maybe they are just tying up loose and because i think this report came out of the woodwork. But if that reporter allegedly says what we think he will which is what . He walked into a meeting in mid december at the Georgia Capital or nearby, and he came upon people meeting to develop a slight of faith electors. That is a crime, number one. Number two, that could be part of jack smiths indictment, which means that he may call this person to the grand jury and push back his indictment just a little bit. I am predicting, i could be wrong. What was that phrase again . We learned new stuff. Just, glitz go back to you here because i want to switch gears for a second to the special counsel document investigation. Its a very important case. Were learning that the Surveillance Footage that is tied to the new Obstruction Charges is actually only obtained in recent weeks. What can you tell us . This is action you information, laura and, it comes from that filing tonight from the special counsel. They are saying, they are telling the judge that they have this Surveillance Video that they are saying, in the filing, quote, pertains to the new obstruction allegations. Those are of course the new charges made last week in that Superseding Indictment against trump. Also, walt nauta and that new defendants in the case that we saw in court today, carlos de oliveira. And the new indictment, of course, has those new allegations that all three of them engaged in conspiracy to attempt to delete Security Footage and Security Footage referenced in this filing was actually just obtained in the last few weeks. It is not clear what this newlyobtained Surveillance Footage shows, laura but this latest filing that we are just seeing from the special counsel, it does make clear one thing. That this investigation is still very much ongoing, despite the charges that came down late last week. It also shows how this case against former president trump, it continues to grow, as we wait potentially enter another indictment related to january six, and efforts to subvert the 2020 election. So a lot swirling here is the president continues to be an even more legal peril. Laura . Jeanne, when you are a defendant, you hear newlyobtained evidence, and you have already gotten indictment, are you shaking your boots or what . Im not sleeping at night, put it that way. I am now intense and you have to say this. When i was a prosecutor, the Presumption Of Innocence was cherished to me. It was sacred. And, of course as a Defense Attorney it also is. Here is what concerns me. We could have four indictments against donald trump, the Due Process Clause kicks into me, and also speedy trial act. We need to be careful that he is given enough time because he is presumed innocent, to fight these charges. So these cases have to be spread out do i think the first two indictments, the one from maralago and manhattan the manhattan one is not the strongest in my view, but the one in maralago is just a slam dunk. If he gets indicted five fani willis, which appears to be a strong case, the allegations, and he gets the january 6th indictment, which i think is going to be strong, i still am concerned about the timing. So the judges should get together somehow talk about their schedules, because you cannot just make a, even president of the United States or a normal person fight for charges simultaneously. On that part we talk about due process, but really we are talking about i have got to have time to defend myself, he has a select a few number of attorneys, he appears to be affluent and have a number of resources to be able to acquire additional conflict, but compare that to the average joe. People would say do hold on a second, if you dont want to have four trials against, you then dont commit for different acts that would warrant probable cause a findings of indictment. It is so sad, so too bad for you that you have to juggle, is but maybe it is your own conduct and i dont have to give you the same benefit of the doubt . You and i both worked at the doj and we had great years. But the remaining times when there was a state prosecution, and then the feds come, in and there is accounting, and laura you know that the feds and the state folks talk. Which trial goes first, how long is that going to, be and then you can go second or whatever. And so there has to be some coordination between the fed prosecutors and the stage. Which, by the way, i dont want to cut you off, but the coordination doesnt mean more than just the calendar of the schedule. If theyre actually comparing notes and saying okay, heres all my case. Thats not what you mean. Well, ive got to add to that. I think they are going to talk scheduling. But, under the Due Process Clause in the constitution, prosecutors have to disclose and produce information and so if a State Prosecutor has information that can hurt or help a defendant, then that may have to be turned over in the federal case and vice versa. It is i always call it. There may be some coordination between the state and federal prosecutors. Well see about the judges to, and they know their own docket as well. Tonight, there are three house gop chairmen and now it is an inquiry into Hunter Bidens plea deal on the very same day of former Business Associate of hunters testified on capitol hill. Melanie, what are we learning tonight . So laura, this testimony from devin archer, a key Business Associate, it was highly anticipated by republicans. They have been trying to establish a direct link between President Joe Biden and his son foreign business deals. Thats the length of the white house has consistently denied, and it appears that republicans are still coming up short in trying to prove definitively that there was a connection between the president and his sons business deals. Now, archer did testify that hunter biden put joe biden on speakerphone, at least 20 times over the course of a tenyear period in front of his Business Associates. But, sources who are in the room today said that are true testified that business was never discussed on those calls, and it was more casual, sort of chickens, casual conversations. And, sources also said that our Church Esther Fighting is not aware of any rivalries game and a foreign nationals, that something that has been alleged by republicans. But republicans say they dont believe that it is just niceties discussed on the speakerphone calls, they say that those calls, in addition to a dinner that joe biden popped into it one, point or proof that joe biden did intimately have knowledge of his sons business deals, and they are vowing to continue digging in, laura. Look, the associate testimony doesnt actually have concrete, evidence but it is pretty clear that biden, President Biden is the target of got impeachment also on the brain, do you see evidence of high crimes or misdemeanors, or anything that justify even that pursuit . At this time i dont see high crimes and misdemeanors, i dont even see a low crime. I see a son who is using his father to pop in on a meeting or speakerphone and give the illusion that i, hunter biden, have a power. I have got to say this. I dont care if your republican, democrat, were independent. If you are a prosecutor and you have concrete evidence of quid pro quo, Honest Services violated, or any you scratch my back and i scratch your, or if theres a concrete evidence of that you have to investigate. But based on what i know now, i see a lot of smoke, but i would never base my case, criminally, on just devin archer. You need corroboration and something concrete. I dont see it. We will see. As we talk about trumps poll numbers going up, despite all of his legal troubles, there is actually an nbc report that says, get this, only four of his 44 Cabinet Members, have even endorsed his latest run for president. That is just for people out of a possible 44. Former a. G. Bill barr telling nbc, when asked, he would support in the trump biden rematch, well, quote, i will jump off that bridge when i get to it, unquote. I want to bring in john fulton, former National Security adviser who is a former u. N. Ambassador. Ambassador, its good to see, you but ive got to tell you. Those odds number one are not too good, four out of 44. Well get to that in a second. But youve been clear of your own critique and criticism of donald trump. But i wonder, if you are asked the same question that bill barr was asked, if it came down to a trump biden matchup, what would you do . Well, the same thing i did in 2020. I looked at maryland which permits right in voting, i always like to vote for a conservative republican, between biden and trump there is no conservative on the ballot, so i wrote In The Name Of the conservative and i would do the same in 2024. Whos that name . I havent told anybody, but someday im a. But i would have not revealed it. Tonights a good night to do so, we should just share everything. Did you write your own name in . What is your own name written . I did not write my own name, it was a living republican conservative. The plot of seconds. Let me ask you this, do you foresee a time when your own name might be on the ballot for this 2024 race . Well, i am still considering it. If you look at the New York Times poll that came out today, with trump at 54 and ron desantis in double digits, i dont think anybody has caught fire yet. It is entirely possible that one or more of them will by the time the debate later in august, but right now i dont see that path. I think that we should give them a chance, but late august could be a very important point for the republican party. I really think that people should be saying that, if the candidates havent shown a chance to defeat trump, they ought to seriously consider getting out at that point. And maybe other people who have not entered the race should consider coming in. We should look to hear from you in august, perhaps. They get after askew, given the odds, four out of 44 Cabinet Members supporting him. What should americans take away from that fact . This is stunning in modern, or really any american history. What do you take away from the fact that it is four out of 44 . Well, i dont know exactly who the 44 were you surveyed but i would say this. In private, honest conversations almost all of trumps Cabinet Members and senior advisers would say that their conclusion after watching him in their time in office that trump is not fit to be president. It is not a question of the drama, or his personality, or Something Like that, it is a question of his basic lack of confidence to do the job. And i think that people really dont want to be out front endorsing somebody that they know cant do the job. Why do you think it is, i mean, there is one thing that we talked about competence. Maybe availability, for example, and we know that he is facing a great number of legal troubles. On the overall bingo card of america, i cant imagine an rnc hopeful that thought there would have an opposing candidate who would have impeached troys, twice been indicted, maybe another one around the corner. The mounting legal troubles, and they cant actually capitalize on that, or criticize it. In, fact you mention in new polling, he is gaining new ground around his rivals, even as all of the starts to come to a head. What is your view on that and is it inevitable, given these numbers, to get where we are right now, that donald trump will in fact secure the nomination . No, i think its far from inevitable. I think this poll maybe as high point, i think that, really, the poll could turn out to be an outlier. I think there are a lot more people that are willing to consider alternatives. I think that they rate the maga base too highly, too large. But i think that what people are looking for is a candidate who will take trump on and really demonstrate that, to beat trump, you have to go after trump. Now, some of the candidates are criticizing trump directly, but i think it is not just a question of criticism, its a question of convincing people that trumps, a Second Trump Return would be bad for the country. And, frankly, bad for conservative principles. Remember, trump cannot serve a third term, which means that he is freed from any electoral restraint. It wouldve been true if you this reelected in 2020, and it would be true if he wins in 24. Once free from those political constraints, which are often the only thing that brought him to sensible decisions, people who think that he would be more conservative in a second term are going to be very disappointed. They are taking the time to do that as we speak, and each day its bringing more and more emotion because they are Finding Items and not Finding Items, and it is bringing about emotions of from them and their memories of living in the house prior to what this happened. But, the spotlight and focus and attention on the family has been extensive. And i wonder, what would you say to critics who would question how she could have not known about these allegations that her husband was an alleged a Serial Killer . As she had a chance to reflect on what people are thinking, perhaps . At this point, no. But she had no idea this was going on or the allegations, that her husband was a suspect. She is not a suspect and has not been questioned by the police regarding any of this. It has been extremely overwhelming for her and the children to try to piece life back together with what it was two and a half weeks ago. I dont know if they will ever return to normalcy, but daybyday shes Getting Better, she knows her strength. So she will have something to focus on, a strong focal point of being in charge. Shes Getting Better every day. The officer whos never interviewed or . They didnt question her, no. You are using the word question, in the sense that you are with her in the council, or that she has never been questioned about these crimes at all . She is never been interrogated. There might have been some basic questions when they first arrived upon the scene, but shes not been interrogated or questioned by Law Enforcement about the incident, timeline, allegations, or anything to do with criminal case. Has her husband tried to contact her from jail at all . Whatever conversation she had with her husband i am not a privy to discuss, but she is not discussed the crimes or allegations with him. She did file for divorce after his arrest. Does that indicate, somehow, her belief on his innocence or guilt . No, it does not. The only thing she knows about the allegations of what the media is reported and there is a long way to go with Criminal Trial. She has filed to protect herself and her Family Moving forward. What does that protection mean . It just means that you anticipate that maybe lawsuits, financial situations, she needs to focus on herself, her children moving forward. This Criminal Trial could take two or three years playing out, she is moving on, her life, childrens life, however that works out to show at at the time. To be clear, know that the nature of the communication, we know youre not privy discuss, but there has been contact between the two since his arrest . I believe there has, but you have to realize that any phone calls are recorded at the facility so she has been very basic phone calls. Everything is recorded, she is not going to discuss anything nor has his attorneys discussing anything about the allegations. What is interesting about this is that somebody whos a Pop Music Critic for a long time, throwing things on stage, for certain kinds of acts, has happened for a very long time with paul but bans, alternative bans, hard rock bands, but now were seeing it happen with pop Music Artists where that is not part of the ritual, and so part of what we are seeing is people do it in at concerts, where that is not expected and the artist is not expecting it. And, you know, call me a curmudgeon but i feel like we have these audiences that are so used to being in front of tablets and phones and tv sets at home, that they dont know how to handle themselves when they are actually in public. They are being entertained by someone who is flesh and blood, and they treat them as if it is some kind of video game or some kind of Video Presentation on their tv. But they are actual people who can be hurt by flying projectiles, particularly if they are not expecting it. And so, at some point, security is going to get more strenuous at these shows because these artists are not going to tolerate going out and delivering these multi Million Dollar productions and having to worry about somebody throwing a bottle at their head. Nor should they have to tolerate that. It detracts from the experience of people who are going into the concerts, but you raise an interesting point that people are so accustomed to having the anonymity of doing what they want, hurling words or other things, and then having the on immunity to say that this is going to be the blueprint or the reaction or if she is charged. So, while they might have changed the name, the intention behind what the platform is supposed to be is changing and it is not for the best. I also think that a lot has happened since they named it acts, and since kanye has come back on. We have new platforms as well, so we have a threads, we have still, we have other alternatives for people to go and actually have conversations in a similar, but not identical way. It was all from his head. Yes, he had help in the brilliant design and everything, but a lot of the sensibility was right from him. He studied art in school, he knew whats art was. This was a form of art to him. And, it was the most important kind, the kind that connects to people, and makes them a little kinder. And more loving. He also had this wicked sense of humor. So, he knew that inside every kid was not just a loving soul, but kind of, you know, a selfish narcissist [laughter] inside every kid, but its still innocent, because listen, when youre a little kid at 4 or 5 years old like he was playing, the world does revolve around you. Your parents tell you that the whole world revolves around you, so why wouldnt you not. Hopefully you grow up a little. Youre kind to other people and you realize theres other people in the world. These are the lessons that he was actually learning as the child character in the show, and then imparting it to not just children, who were his primary targets. He used to say, i want to kill with this content with this. I want them to die laughing. Look what hes doing. But, look at the other levels it appealed to us as adults we could laugh hysterically.
