Cases are still rising in 49 states weve topped 100,000 new cases every day for more than a week the virus just killed more than 1400 americans in a single day, the most in three months, and every signal is that covid is accelerating at an unprecedented pace as our nation faces the worst Public Health crisis in a century, the Trump Administration is still refusing to cooperate with president elect bidens transition team, leaving members largely in the dark as they prepare to take over the fight against covid cnbcs eamon javers has been following the risk of the slowwalking biden transition. I talked to Katherine Sebelius from health and Human Services today, and she says what the biden transition says theyll want information about where that ppe is and all of those masks and gowns working its way through the federal supply chain so if they want to invoke the defense production act and they can push all of that out to hospitals ahead of whats expected to be a surge of the virus over the course of the winter she also said that the transition and the information associated with that would be super helpful for the incoming biden team so they can get ahead of vaccine distribution. Having a seamless transfer of information, and already having discussions in advance can only get vaccine to the right places at the right time and help governors to understand what it is that they can count on from the federal government and what they need to put in place. He could invoke it though if he wants to use it for any kind of civil unrest and the concern is that he would do it around unrests surrounding the election so if, by chance, theres any kind of issues about, you know, the President Trump leaving office, maybe in january, if there is real protest in the street about the outcome, the results of the election, President Trump could call an active duty forces if he wanted to, something secretary esper spoke out against. If you have a number of trump loyalists at top positions he might not get that opposition. We also have to point out though that the insurrection act gives the president Broad Authority here the other concern is international, and there are a lot of people at the pentagon who are worried that President Trump in these last days may try to pull troops out of conflict areas overseas, particularly afghanistan, maybe iraq and syria, shep. I was at the polls of the county courthouse and i did my own polling and asked folks wo did you vote for from young to old they told me they voted for donald trump. In star county, trump increased his vote from 47 to 19 in 2016. He received more than 8,000 votes this time around and still fell short to turning it red. It almost happened here, too. Imagine the possibilities of getting more people, those folks who didnt vote because we have a whole bunch that didnt vote, that could have made star county a red county, as well. And there is no official Republican Party in zapata county, but President Trumps supporters there say theyll be working on that for upcoming elections, shep . Antonio rodriguez from telemundo 40 on covid watch now every time you hear hospitals being overwhelmed that means doctors and nurses are overwhelmed and theyre exhausted, physically and emotionally, but our words cannot do that justice, we know. Theirs can when i watch the work that my staff is doing its amazing, yet its scary its scary were scared. A lot of patients right now they dont have any family. We dont have enough caregivers to manage the increasing amount of patients and even if transmissions stopped today our hospitalizations would continue to rise for weeks. I think as a nurse the bond that has been the lardehardest t only the fact that our patients dont have visitors and were trying to limit and cluster care whats going on in those rooms to lower whats going on with ourselves, as well this is not going anywhere good right now im moving now more than we used to, thank goodness, and i think this round will be easier to manage for that reason alone if everyone wore their mask and practiced hand hygiene and tried to socially distance, it would make a big change in the hospital it would make a big change in our lives, as well we wouldnt have to be transforming our hospital and taking care of so many patients. Words of wisdom and please, for cooperation from our front line heroes, as for masks, if you see a firefighter in new york city, youll probably notice them wearing some new stuff.
