Live from cnbc Global Headquarters the facts, the truth, the news with shepherd smith. Good evening. Developing tonight 15 days to the election members of the same Russian Intelligence Agency that attacked the 2016 president ial campaign are now charged in connection with some of the most destructive Cyber Attacks to date around the world. A federal grand jury in washington charging six Russian Hackers in connection with crimes over the past four years. Hacks that the feds say led to nearly a billion dollar in losses for a Health Care System in pennsylvania and three other u. S. Companies plus a blackout in ukraine and computer problems at the 2018 Winter Olympics. Pete williams is with us pete, now they have charged individuals. Right individuals that they have actually attributed these attacks to they say they used some of the most damaging computer malware ever unleashed all six are Intelligence Officers in the Russian Military that carried these out to support the russian governments goals. They said the following starting in 2015. Knocked out electrical power in ukraine during the winter leaving a quarter Million People shivering in the dark. Targeting the Opening Ceremony of the 2018 Winter Olympics and deleted data from thousands of computers that supported the games which fouled up reservations and tickets which made it seem like the attacks were coming from north korea hit the u. S. By shutting down the Computer System of a Pennsylvania Hospital making it difficult to get patient data and targeting a fedex subsidiary and a large u. S. Pharmaceutical maker. Total losses nearly 1 billion the russians were also accused of trying to interfere in the french elections in 2016 and hampering the u. K. s investigations into the poisoning of a russian disdent and his daughter these hackers are part of the same unit known as the sand worm team charged by Robert Muellers prosecutors with trying to meddle in the u. S. Election in 2016 as for russian meddling in this years election, the assistant attorney general for National Security says hes seen nothing to cause him what hes been saying that a vote cast for a candidate will be counted. It is one thing to charge them it is another to find them and bring them to justice. Any chance of that no, no chance of that of course these charges mean they cant travel internationally, and the government also says that these folks want to do something when they get out of the military it makes it very hard for them to be ever hired by anybody that has any connection with a u. S. Company. Pete williams in washington, thanks. The vote now and the final sprint is on with election day two weeks from tomorrow. The candidates are on completely different paths toward the same goal were following the travel and the money. Right now President Trump holding his second rally of the day. This is live in tucson joe biden off the campaign trail entirely his Campaign Says preparing for the final president ial debate thats scheduled for this thursday senator Kamala Harris made a swing from florida with spots in orlando and jacksonville shes rallying on the first day of in person voting in florida here is a look where the candidates have been over the last few weeks biden and harris made a total of two dozen stops with most of them in pennsylvania thats how important it is to them President Trump and Vice President pence tallied 27 tops with their most in florida without a win there, the president s road to reelection, says his campaign, is much tougher. Here is a look at how much the campaigns are spending on Television Ads in some key battlegrounds. The top one is florida and they dropped a lot of cash. Earlier today during a cal with his campaign staff, President Trump admitted that he had doubts weeks ago about his chances of winning but he says now he believes hell win arizona, pennsylvania and michigan despite trailing in the polls. This is all im telling you were gonna win. I wouldnt have said that three weeks ago. Three weeks ago, two weeks ago, i dont know i would have said it i dont know it was tougher for me. Im going to arizona today for two rallies. Those two rallies will put arizona away. Well, in that same call, the president attacked dr. An tho gnu fauci, called him a disaster and other Health Officials idiots amen. Yes, thats right the Campaign Today tonighted to be dominated by the coronavirus as both sides sought to place blame for the continuing case count in the United States here on that call that you mentioned that the president had with his own campaign team, he did take the opportunity to bash dr. Anthony fauci. Here is what he said. People are tired of hearing fauci and all these idiots, these people these people that have gotten it wrong. Faucis a nice guy hes been here for 500 years he called every one of them wrong. Meanwhile, joe biden dialing back Campaign Activities as he prepares for the next debate coming up on thursday. But late in the day, he did issue a response to trumps comments saying, mr. President , you are right about one thing. The American People are tired. Theyre tired about your lies about this virus theyre tired of watching more americans die and more people lose their jobs because you refuse to take this pandemic seriously. It is totally dominated by the coronavirus. The Trump Campaign already criticizing the Debate Commission for a debate that hasnt even happened. Yeah. They issued a letter today blasting the commission, calling into question the choice of topics for the debate coming up on thursday. And we have already seen one debate blow up in a dispute over the format well see whether that happens here so far both sides say theyre going, but it is still only monday. Florida hitting the polls today as early voting kicks off in parts of that state these pictures coming up today from south florida there they are crowds of people lined up in the rain to cast their ballots in person florida, a key swing state for President Trump and joe biden with 29 electoral votes up for grabs. So far more than 30 million americans have already voted either in person or by mail. Thats about 21 of all the votes cast back in 2016. Thats new data from the u. S. Elections project. Early voting also started today for north dakota people wore masks and face shields as they handed out forms from behind plexiglass covid has been surging in north dakota cases at an all time high and the virus putting more people in hospitals than ever before according to data from the States Health department. Josh letterman live in bismarck. There were a couple hundred people lined up waiting to vote when the polls opened this morning. Now, it started in far go. And over the next week or so, early voting will expand to other parts of the state but the fact that you actually dont have Voter Registration here anybody who is an eligible voter can show up and cast their ballot. Covid there, josh, all new highs for north dakota they have been on the rise for a long time. Thats right. And now north dakota leading the nation in terms of the rate of new covid cases as well as deaths at the hospital behind me, they only have one available staff icu bed left but the issue of masks and covid restrictions still very controversial here in north dakota take a listen to what public Health Officials and local residents told us today about the surge. We have large events in north dakota we have people going out of eating, restaurants, bars and people who are getting together socially and theyre just not taking the precautions thatthe need to take. What do you think when you see people still not Wearing Masks even as this is becoming such a problem here . I think theyre being pretty selfish. Selfish yeah, because theyre just doing what they want to do theyre not respecting anybody else there is no mandatory mask mandate here statewide but in the last few minutes, the mayor of fargo, north dakota announced he is putting a mask mandate in place. That is late from Josh Letterman in bismarck. Covid cases are up all across the nation. America averaging more than 56,000 tests per day over the last week. Thats up more than 30 this month according to johns hopkins. Hospitals and icus are filling up in some areas, both up close to 20 this month. Deaths have been relatively flat with improved treatment but the numbers are painfully high wisconsin added 30 of its total cases over the past three weeks. Hospitalizations tripled over the past month nbcs Gabe Gutierrez is live for us tonight in milwaukee. Hi there. Local authorities calling this a fivealarm fire. 85 of the hospital beds in wisconsin are full right now, and the state saw a Record Number of new covid cases on friday, more than 3,800. Behind me is a new drivethrough testing site a few moments ago the last car went through, but we had seen cars here for pretty much most of the day and this drivethrough testing site is in the parking lot right across the street from miller park, the home of the milwaukee brewers. Demand for testing in this state has surged the state has also opened a new emergency Field Hospital not far from here. Now today we spoke with several of the people in line at a distance here is what frank locket had to tell us. Take a listen. They better get on board because this aint no joke its killing people. All you got to do is look at the numbers. Reporter a little bit hard to hear. Of course we had to speak with him through speakerphone since he was experiencing symptoms, but he wanted people to take this seriously we should also say there was some breaking news today that a wisconsin judge had ruled that the governors order restricting capacity at bars and restaurants here to 25 , the judge ruled that that order could stay in place, despite a lawsuit but, shep, here is the intersection of politics and the pandemic early voting begins here in wisconsin tomorrow. On a cold night in milwaukee. So where are we big picture. Former da commissioner Scott Gottlieb is with us. Hearing dire predictions for the weeks ahead, whats yours . Were facing a tough circumstance right now were going to see accelerating cases heading into the next four to six weeks probably into the end of the year right now it is going to be a difficult fall and winter. I think were two and three weeks behind europe. Were a week away from starting to enter a period with a rapid acceleration in cases. I think november and december will be tough months were seeing hospitalizations go up in 42 states right now. It really is no backstop you know, the summer was a backstop of sorts to the spring surge, and we have no therapeutic backstop in the season when this coronavirus will want to spread. We were just live in north dakota and wisconsin, cold in both that brings people indoors thanksgiving is ahead. What are you telling families that havent seen each other in so long that would love to have ten people around the dining room table. Yeah. When you talk to the governors about where theyre seeing the outbreaks occur when they do their tracing and they trace back to where the source of the infection was, oftentimes its family gatherings, gatherings at social halls, things like that it is not people going into bars and restaurants per se i think we need to be careful in those settings when we let our guard down were coming into the 7th inning of the acute phase of this pandemic we have managed to protect the vulnerable and i think we cant let our guard down right now thanksgiving will be a tempting occasion, but if you have older individuals in the family, people who are vulnerable, you have to think about how to protect them in the holiday. As we get into 2021, well have a vaccine hopefully heading into 2021 and we can look to happier days, but these will be some tough months ahead of us and we cant let our guard down right now. You mentioned a vaccine hopefully. There is so much talk that its just going to happen you know, by the Third Quarter of next year, there is a vaccine. Can you handicap whether thats a real thing or not, whether you believe thats a real possibility . Well, if people are optimistic based on the early data, but we dont know until we know im on the board of phafizer, oe of the companies doing a largescale trial. But remember even if these trials are successful and they make it on to the market, theyre authorized through emergency use authorization. The first group of patients who get that vaccine arent going to have protective immunity into 2021 it will be february or march before they are fully immune because even if the applications get filed at the end of november, which is the schedule right now when it could happen if the vaccine trials are successful and the fda takes two to four weeks to authorization those, it will take a month to vaccinate the initial population then you have to wait about three to four weeks to get a second shot. Not everyone will get that exactly on time. After you get that second shot, then you have to wait about two weeks to have the full benefit of the immunity. So you are putting the schedule towards february or march when people have the full benefit of the vaccine. Even if it is on schedule, even if things go right and the authorizations happen some time this year. You wrote an op ed about getting treatments to people who need them. But obstacles that stand in the way of delivering. Right these are the antibody drugs so we always thought the bridge to a vaccine could be these antibody drugs, the drugs that governor Chris Cristie and the president received these are drugs that basically give you an immune system in a bottle you are basically getting an infusion of the antibodies your body would produce in response to fight the infection these drugs should be available this year. They could be authorized by the fda in a number of days or weeks. But there will be a real challenge developing these drugs. Right now the system envisions infusing them in hospital emergency rooms. These drugs need to be given to patients infected with the coronavirus but arent yet very sick but there are people at risk of having a bad outcome it will be hard to get those individuals to come into a busy emergency room and sit for a threehour infusion. I think the government needs to think about how to provide these in a homebased setting to give these drugs to people while in the room you have to get the people to the hospital these are infected individuals that someone will have to drive the hospital. A complicated world thank you so much. Were dealing with covid in so many different parts of life, right, work, family and for many education. The polls show trump trailing pretty similar to last cycle he trailed Hillary Clinton on this date four years ago steve kornacki, a bit of deja vu really, truly look at this right now 8. 9 thats the average lead for joe biden over donald trump when you look at the National Polls same exact day four years ago, what did the polls look like then wasnt quite 8. 9, but a 6 1 2 point lead nationally Hillary Clinton over donald trump this was the time, midoctober 2016 when trump was hit with the access hollywood tapes, and his numbers started to bottom out. But big lead for biden then, and it was a big lead for Hillary Clinton as well. Also these are the battleground states now this is what the battleground states looked like on that day in midoctober 2016. The key was in the final weeks of that campaign, trump di cut the lead, the polls got closer in the end, the question is will there be similar momentum for trump late in this campaign can trump get the late push like he did in 2016 this rule we just got from m the Supreme Court, steve, they a rejection of the the Supreme Court, steve, this ia a rejection of the republican proposal and allows more time to get your ballots in. That could be a difference maker. Youre right and in terms of the timetable, pennsylvania was already one of those states where it could take some time to get the results out there. Weve been looking at the possible sort of factors that could complicate the picture another one in pennsylvania was this, Voter Registration statistics these are net new Voters Registration just in the last few months in three big battleground states. Pennsylvania one of them, florida, north carolina. This is something that republicans have been talking about. Look at this in the last couple months, on the net, they have registered more new voters, more voters than the democrats in those three big swing states thats something the trump folks have been talking about. They have been sayin they think they have folks that arent being picked up on right now. This is the number they talk about. For the democrats, that court ruling, that get to what theyre looking for. A massive get out the vote is going on is joe biden making any inroads anywhere heres the biggest shift trump won the white vote a huge group, 70 of the electorate is white. Trump won that by 17 points in 2016, on average now trump leads among white voters by just four points bidens gains have been among white voters in fact hes gained. Biden is actually not keeping pace this is how Hillary Clinton did with black and latino voters biden is not quite keeping pace. Biden is underperforming, where bidens made his gain has been among white voters very interesting. Steve kornacki, inside the numbers, thanks.
