Next year's spring break became a point of contention for Burlington School Board members Monday ahead of their approval of the district's 2021-22 school calendar.
The calendar, which was approved by a 6-1 vote, sets next year's spring break for April 12-18, two week later than this year's spring break, which ran from March 31 to April 2.
Board president Joel Sieren, who last year advocated for a weeklong spring break, argued that it should be scheduled for earlier in the year.
"I just remember this year, in talking anecdotally with staff, with students, they were very burned out, couldn't wait for spring break, and on this calendar, spring break would be a week later than it was this year," Sieren said, adding that he felt a late spring break would make the remainder of the year difficult for seniors to concentrate as they would return with only four-and-a-half weeks left before their last day.
