WIND FARM.The 680-hectare Burgos wind farm is the country's largest wind power facility located in three barangays of Burgos, Ilocos Norte. It generates approximately 370GWh of electricity a year to power up more than 2 million households in the Philippines. (Photo courtesy of EBWPC) LAOAG CITY-First Gen-owned Energy Development Corporation (EDC), the country's largest renewable energy producer, was recognized for its Burgos wind farm's exemplary compliance with spot market rules. During the recent Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) Compliance Officers (WCO) Summit 2021, the 150-megawatt renewable energy power producer located in this northern gateway of Luzon ranked second in the wind category. The Philippine Electricity Market Corporation (PEMC) confers rating citations to generation companies that have exemplary compliance records with WESM's laws and manuals such as the must offer rule, rule on the nomination of projected outputs or loading levels, and real-time dispatch schedule. The summit is an annual event held by PEMC to provide updates and new guidelines on market compliance. It recognizes the electric power industry participants' efforts in fostering a culture of compliance. Occupying a 680-hectare site covering three barangays in Ilocos Norte, the Burgos wind farm is the country's largest wind power facility. The wind farm generates approximately 370GWh of electricity a year, which is used to power more than 2 million households in the Philippines. It offsets approximately 200,000t of carbon dioxide (CO) emissions annually. "We are grateful for this recognition of our team's efforts to attain a high level of compliance," said Andy T. Durog, head of the EDC Burgos Wind Power Corporation's on Tuesday. He said wind and solar play an important role in decarbonizing the country, hence, he assured the company's continuing advocacy for the shift to clean, renewable energy and reaffirming its commitment to efficiency, transparency, and open access to the market. EDC is the largest pure renewable energy company in the Philippines, operating 1,186 MW of geothermal, 150 MW of wind, 132 MW of hydroelectric power, and 12 MW of solar power plants -- for a total of 1,480 MW of clean and renewable energy. Recognized as a world leader in geothermal technology, the company operates in various locations in the Philippines, including in Bicol, Leyte, Negros Island, and Mindanao. EDC, through its subsidiaries, also operates the biggest combined wind and solar farm in the region, located in Burgos, Ilocos Norte, and hydropower assets located in Nueva Ecija. (PNA) }
