In the spring of 2001, Rhode Island-based photographer Lisa Limer traveled to Syria on assignment for a leading travel magazine. Four months later, when the photographs were, as she puts it, “at the printers, ready to run,” two airplanes hit the World Trade Center in New York City; a third hit the Pentagon. In the wake of the attacks of September 11th, Lisa Limer’s breathtaking photographs of Syria were not published.
