Dec 22, 2020 — A person incarcerated at the state prison in Dannemora has died due to COVID-19.
According to the NYS Dept. of Corrections, the inmate who was symptomatic with COVID-19 was sent to the hospital on Dec. 8 and died on Dec. 20.
According to a prison advocacy group, Release Aging People in Prison, this was the second inmate death statewide this week linked to the pandemic.
A coalition of advocates released a statement Tuesday calling on Governor Cuomo to pass COVID-related prison reforms, including the Elder Parole bill, the Fair and Timely Parole Act, and HALT Solitary Confinement Act "to save lives and prevent more needless deaths behind bars."
