Boy Scout Troop 3 undertakes big Geode State Park project

DANVILLE — Armed with shovels, rakes, and concern for the environment, members of Iowa’s Oldest Boy Scout Troop, Troop 3 of Burlington, recently completed a substantial Conservation Good Turn project at Geode State Park in Danville.
Wearing work gloves, “We moved tons of dirt, more tons of rocks, and harvested live and dead brush within a mile circle to avoid clear-cutting any one area,” Dan Fell, the troop’s committee chairperson, said on Facebook.
The project, Fell said, will benefit Geode’s water quality and augment the DNR’s watershed efforts, “for years to come.”
The Boy Scouts of America’s Conservation Good Turn Award recognizes Scouts who help to conserve wildlife, energy, forests, soil, and water.
